Cavo Doro Hotel

Accommodation in Kalamaki

Natalie T

We stayed at the Cava D'Oro on our honeymoon for two weeks in September 2005. The accomodation was pretty basic, but I'd never stayed in a hotel abroad before, so I didn't have anything to compare it with!Although I must say initially I was very disappointed with the room. The twin beds weren't terribly comfy and the shower wasn't particularly powerful with just a square shower base to stand in in the corner of the bathroom!  My husband said his hotels were better in Ibiza and Tenerife. We did have a toaster and a kettle with plates and a knife, but no cups!!

The one thing I can say though is that it was clean. The maids came in every day; and changed the sheets and towels every other day.
The Cava D'Oro shop was handy and the staff there were very friendly. Harry's bar was a usual lunchtime haunt for us as it was close to the pool and served good, reasonably priced food. We also went to a brilliant Greek night there one sunday for 10euros which included a delicious all you could eat buffet!
If you are just looking for a base to go out from this is perfect, but if you a fancy a bit of luxury, choose somewhere else!!

Returned last Thursday after a week in Kalamaki staying in the Cavo D'Oro apartments.  This was my eighth visit to Zante, my fourth to Kalamaki and my first stay in this accommodation.  I knew exactly where this place was situated which is in an ideal location and I wasn't disappointed.

We stayed in block G5 and were on the top floor (penthouse!).  We had a beautiful view of the sea.  The room was compact but clean and adequate for our needs.  My only complaint was the miserable cleaner who used to knock us out of bed most mornings at 10am.  Okay, we're not completely lazy but we're on holiday so we used to like to lie in a bit after having late nights!
I never heard any noise from any other occupants and would definitely stay here again.

It appears this accommodation is only in Airtours and Sunset/Thomas Cook next year.  We travelled with Manos but it does not appear to be in their brochure for 2006 which is a shame.

The pool area was nice but can imagine in peak season it's a free for all to get a sunbed and then you'll end up lying on top of each other.  We preferred to go to the beach anyway.

What was also good was it was a fab location for the Lighthouse Restaurant which does a fab breakfast.  Okay it may not be the cheapest but the quality is superb!  Also our friend Lambros' bar, Savoy was right outside the entrance which meant after a heavy night on the voddies, we could just roll home to bed!!

It was the first time my boyfriend had been to Zante and he thoroughly enjoyed himself and found the accommodation to be much more superior than when he has stayed in Corfu.

Suffering from PHD now - post holiday depression especially now the winter nights are drawing in.  Looking forward to 2006 when no doubt I will return once again to the beautiful island of Zakynthos.

We have just returned and it was the first and last time we would stay here.

The noise on the stairs and corridoors was so bad every night that we didn't have a single nights sleep.

It didn't matter what time it was, 1,2, or 3 o'clock, there was always somebody either shouting, screaming or fighting.

After complaining to the reception and the rep, we were told that things would improve, but unfortunately they did not.
We were in block G5 which was at the back of the complex, but after talking to other people who stayed at the same hotel in a different block, they had a much quieter time than us.
As we were on a night flight, we wanted to keep our room on for the extra 14 hours but we thought that the 40 euro's they wanted was too much for a noisy hotel, so we went across the road to the Clelia Hotel which was a much better, quieter hotel and was only 30 euro's

We have just booked up for May next year to celebrate our silver Anniversary. We have never been to Zante or any Greek Islands before.Just wondering if there is anyone who has stayed at the Cavo D`oro recently and if they approve of it.Thanks.

Just came back after 2 weeks at Cavo Dora.  We were self catering and in a top floor room, over looking the sea and right the way along the beach.  Typical Greek accomodation. Balcony huge, sometimes we would just lie there all day on our towels as it got the sun most of the day.  Maid service, as usual, knocking at the door at back of 9!  No good when you only got to bed in the early hours.  Walls very very thin, heard everything at all hours of day / night. Harrys bar, food good, huge menu.  Too many sunbeds around the pool tho, needs another pool in the grounds!  Cavo Dora Bar at front, excellant food thru the day, salad platters amazing!  The staff, Yannis, Akis and Alison all very very friendly.  The bar at night, always busy, massive screens for sport / music channels.  Drinks measures are amazing, one night went from sober to mega drunk, missed out the tipsy part, all on 4 vodka cranberries!  Pool table at front of bar as well.  The Roof Garden, excellent food, mention you stay at Cavo Dora for a discount.  Supermarket also at the complex well stocked, although not the cheapest we found.

Def stay here again, facilites good, staff very nice and welcoming. My only gripe is the needing to be up at the back of 10 to get a good place at the pool, which is the done thing.

We have stayed at many Greek resorts, so we are used to the accomodation, but these were def one of the better ones we have stayed in.

Have you ever been to Greece before?  Doesn't sound like it?

We have just returned from zante after 2 weeks at cava doro, firstly id say the people are great, helpfull and speak good english (because 99% of tourists are english speaking anyway), however........ Our room was too small for 3, the 3rd bed was a campbed. The aircon was extra, as was our extra days room hire (bum flight times), towels and sheets stopped after the 6th day (of 14), the hot water ends after dusk (solar heated), no locks on toilet doors anywhere, no shower curtain on rail, crack right thru hand basin, under beds had never been cleaned looking at the fluff. The reception door into the apartment area banged all night (bar closes at 3am) and keeps you awake (no damper fitted to slow it). We had a fridge/toaster/kettle even though we were not self catering, those who were didnt have em! The "breakfast" was cornflakes/bun/apricot and tea/coffee.....every day. Poolside they dont leave any gaps between loungers, i made some by removing a lounger daily. its hot enough (49 degrees) though. Vomit from the drunks (in the cava doro own grounds wasnt washed away for 4 days either. This could have been so much better. If you go, nip across the the road to claudes english bar, ask gary (ex-sheffield) "DID I PAY?" and watch his face.........good lad is gary!

Hi, we have just booked to go to the Cavo D'Oro for next year, got a great deal from Airtours. We have been to a few of the Greek Islands, but not Zante. What's the self catering realy like here, what can we do,best place to hire a car, best places to eat - we like to try out as many as we can rather than go back to the same one over and over again (don't like eating English food, what's the point as you can do this every day at home!!!),how close to the shops (this one from my wife!!!)? Just a few questions to be going on with!!! :) Thanx.

Janet A

WoW where do we start, firstly the cavo dora is a fantastic place friendly staff and very efficent, we were in a group of 15 adults and 6 teens and not 1 complaint from any of us our rooms where very clean and had all you need for on holiday, and where cleaned every 2/3 days. Harry's bar has a great english bacon breakfast the full works and his all day menu will keep u goin. The pool bar becomes a restaurant with a great greek italian and english menu to please every1. The pool is a good size with plenty of beds, greek nite was fantasic thank you a million harry you helped make our holl's 1 of the best ever.

we were all very sad to have to leave but will be back again next year for the world cup. HELLAS HELLAS HELLAS.

WHAT A GREAT PLACE THE CAVO DORO IS.

DONT KNOW WHAT LAST COMMENTS ARE ABOUT FROM LUKE, BUT IT NOT THE CAVO DORO. WE JUST GOT BACK AFTER THE BEST 2 WEEK HOLIDAY WE HAVE EVER HAD. THE ROOMS S/C ARE VERY COMFORTABLE AND OUR BEDDING AND TOWEL'S PLUS ROOM CLEANED WAS EVERY OTHER DAY. VERY CLEAN AND PLEASENT JUST AS THE HOTEL STAFF, THANK YOU THERESA...ALSO THE POOL IS EXCELLENT PLENTY OF ROOM AND HARRYS BAR FOR EVERYTHING YOU NEED, FULL ENGLISH, EXCELLENT MENU, ENGLISH AND GREEK MENU'S AND HARRY IS A DIAMOND HE MADE US AND EVERY1 ELSE VERY WELCOME, I SUGGEST LUCK U SHOULD HAVE ENJOYED YOUR "HONEYMOON" INSTEAD OF SEEING HOW BIG THE ROOM WAS. KALAMKI IS A GREAT PLACE AND THE CAVO DORO IS SMACK BANG IN THE MIDDLE JUST 100MTS FROM CRYSTAL BEACH 5MINS FROM LAGANAS (IF U WANT A WILD NIGHT)
ALL IN ALL I WOULD SAY 10/10 FOR THE CARVO DORO AND HARRY'S BAR

Luke R

Stopped in Cavo D'oro at the end of may for my honneymoon. I have never felt so robbed. It wasn't the cleanest of rooms, it was meant to be self catering, but had to pay xtra for toaster and kettle, if you did manage to make a meal on the 2 hobs 1 foot away from the bed, which we didn't, there was no where to eat it,the bed  sheets didn't get changed in the whole 2 weeks we were there and i swear there was some sort or bug in there eating us, we woke up every morning with a fresh few bites!! The whole room, including the bathroom, was smallller than our bedroom at home, i was gutted... But had a fantastic holliday anyway!!!!!

DUE TO GO TO CAVO DORA BEEN TOLD WE ARE IN BACK BLOCK FIRST FLOOR 205 CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THIS IS OK AND WITH SEA VIEW LIKE BEEN TOLD AS THERE IS 3 ADULTS 1 CHILD THANKS

Karen W

We had a great time in the Cava D'Oro.  Our s/c apartment was basic, and we barely had enough cups, glasses etc. (take your own tin opener) but it was very clean - the sheets were changed several times a week.

There are a couple of things you should know if travelling with small children & babies: (1) the highchairs promised in the Sunset brochure don't exist - we made do with reins & the dining chair, but with glass topped tables it's a bit dangerous; (2) the pool is lovely but the 'shallow' end is 1 metre deep so it isn't suitable for small non-swimmers to play without armbands.

Other than that we loved it.  Ignore the warnings about aircraft noise - we never noticed them.  The beach is safe and nice, though if you have a car it's well worth the drive to the paradise of Garakas beach.

Sarah B

Having arrived exhausted from a night flight it was dreadful when part of our party found their room to be filthy from the previous guests, we took photos of evidence but my friends had a long wait whilst the room was then cleaned after complaining. Everything about the Cavo Doro is very basic, the rooms, the facilities, the pool conditions, the food. If you don't mind being less than two inches from the person next to you when sunbathing then you will be fine. If you don't mind not having breakfast then you will also be OK because you wouldn't want to eat what's offered. If you don't mind being heard in your room just blowing your nose or hearing other quests having sex, or rows, or what-ever, rather than the appauling entertainment offered, then again you won't mind. However, Kalamaki is lovely, Zepo's is a great place to eat for 'real' Greek food and 'Mustang' for a relaxing coffee and bite to eat. Kalamaki I would visit again, but the Cavo Doro I would not stay at - even if it was for free!

Brian M

We stayed at the Cava D'oro this year and were a bit disapointed. The room was fine, much as you'd expect, and clean enough. It depends what you're looking for isn't it. If you like to spend the day by a busy pool with lots of people there then this is for you. We prefer to spend our holiday in more relaxing surroundings so this was not the place for us. Harry's bar by the pool is ok, but if you like nice cocktails at a good price then Achos or Yanis at the front bar will provide. There's a lot of noise at night so don't consider an early night. Unfortunately we had the Geordie couple from hell above us, with the fat b'd shouting at 4 in the morning at one stage to get let in. The people in the Cava D'oro supermarket were very friendly and helpfull so please visit them and say hello. Achos runs a good bar as well so make sure you say hello to him.

Sarah W

we had an ecxellent time last summer.this june we are going again to the cavo doro hotel-apartments.they have the best view and it's very close to the beach.my children loved the super market cash&carry just next to the cavo doro hotel.they have everything you might need to make your holidays just perfect!!! we ate at the roof garden restaurant all the delicious greek meals.you can shop everything you want and take back home cigarettes, alcohol at very low prices.dont't miss the chance to go to zakynthos for your holidays this year.many kisses to all the staff who works there.xxxxx

I've just returned from a holiday in Zante and stayed at the Cava D'Oro. The staff are all very helpful and friendly, and the cocktails at the front bar were just great. The accommodation was basic but very clean .. the cleaner was in every day changing the sheets and cleaning the room.

The breakfast wasn't worth getting up for ... unless you like soggy cereal with cream and a ham and cheese roll. After the first morning, we chose to go elsewhere for breakfast. Go round and see mama at Taz's instead (next to Down Under). She's an angel and looked after me when silly me got all burnt!

We ate somewhere different every night and Mermaids was probably the best for an evening meal. We went to Antoni's bar a lot, where they have lots of good dvds, nice cocktails, lovely bar staff ;o) and karaoke every night. You also must get a taxi into Laganas at least one night and go to the Pink Panther .. the host is excellent and it's a great night for all ages, although sometimes you might need to cover the kids' ears!

I would definitely go back to Zante again and wouldn't mind if it was the Cava D'oro. The beaches and the views were amazing. Make sure you get to St Nicholas's beach for the water sports ... but take plenty of euros!! The cruise around the island is also a must.

Stayed at Cavo D'oro last year in B&B and the room was good, excellent views, clean, cool etc. But this year i stayed in self catering (for a fridge, and yes, breakfast was almost non existent!)We had a ground floor room which was damp. Right next to a sewage pipe and drain which smelt and once leaked. The complex itself is lovely. Nice gardens and pool area, nice snack bar and restaurant etc. The rooms are old and could do with some updating. we are going back to Kalamaki next year but not to Cavo D'Oro

Laura D

just arrived home from the best holidays ever.spain is crap.kalamaki resort of zakynthos is great, the hotel has all the basic facilities to make your holidays there your favourite.the on-site super market was perfect.we bought all the food, presents, fags and alcohol from there.people are very friendly and that's why we are going back next year but for two weeks because one week is not enough.see you next year!!!x

Robert B

the cavo doro is very average, people reading other comments here be under no illusion, this is basic greek accomodation,i have been to zante for the past 5 years and this is the second poorest accomodation i have encountered, zante is now my second home and kalimake is great but the cavo doro is not,if you are b and b the breakfast is a joke, most of there time nothing is there including the basics like cups, when it is there unless you like cheese and ham cobs you are a bit snookered as thats all there is.on arrival we had problems with the room and when we pointed them out were virtually snubbed by a very rude receptionist.the rep tracey is an absolute joke so dont bother with her unless you want to book a very expensive trip.i mended the faults with the room myself.all in all i had a great holiday, this was nothing to do with the hotel which was used minimally as a base,by the way dont use the restuarants at the hotel cos the food is s**te,go to paris or mermaids both of which are excellent and dont bother with the shop at the front cos the woman in there ripped us off on the exchange rate and it was expensive anyway.all of this is my opinion,i am english but am not a fool who goes abroad and eats english breakfast and burger and chips (get a grip people).greece is improving the standard of its accomodation all the time thankfully, anyone who doesnt believe me go to the seaview village in vasilikos.i will be there next year,i believe that the cavo doro will appeal to the burger and chips people, good luck to you!!!

Chris C

Hotel bar AT THE FRONT is the one to go to, the nicest bar on this strip of Kalamaki, Akis and Alison and Georges are fantastic people and you`ll love it! I always do!

Charlie B

I argee Akis rocks, Does anyone have the phone number for the Cavo D'oro?

Paula N

Hi, we went to Cavo Doro last year and are going back this year. Will anyone reading this be there between 15 and 29 sept? Last year we met a brilliant couple and had a laugh and hope to do the same this year. Cant wait!!!

Sam W

just arrived back from our best holiday ever.my family and i had a great time in kalamaki and we are definately coming back next year.the rooms at the hotel were very comfotable and clean.the pool area was nice but better choose to go to the beach.we only shopped from the cavo doro super market because they have the best prices which a big family like mine(12 members)couldn't have afford shopping elsewhere.cigarettes, alcohol, food everithing was three times cheaper than england.also at the cavo doro you will drink the best coctails in the world.akis is the best barman.many kisses to dimis, amy william, eleutheria from the restaurant next to the cavo doro super market.xxxsee you guys next year!!!!!!

Trevor S

hi Akis and Alison
just to let you know we really enjoyed our holiday at the cava d oro,
everyone at the hotel was always helpfull and nothing was a problem.
the situation of the hotel is good as it is not far from the beach or the local shops on kalamiki road.plenty of bars and resturants, and if you want more you can get a taxi or bus to laganas which is about 5 mins away. we met a family from dublin , tom brenda and rebecca, had a some great nights , i will send on some photos as soon as i get them

Samantha S

This hotel was lovely, although the self-catering faclities were poor. we had i cupboard, sink, fridge and two hobs for cooking.
The pool area was very nice and was kept very clean and tidy, you are sure to get a lounger any time of the day (well for 2 anyway).
When i go back to Kalamaki in a few years time i will stay at the CAVA D'ORO again but i will not be going self-catering.
The staff is very friendly and know how to creat a warm welcoming atmospher.

Emma A

we got home 2 weeks ago cant wait to go back next year for the 4th time! missin andreas and his lil bro nick and misin everyone we met and espically jamie holgate and his crew cant wait to see them Its the best place to go on holiday!!! WATCH OUT FOR FRANK!! xxx

Mark D

Got back from the cava doro, a couple of weeks ago, had a great time. holidaying abroad is a new experiance for us, so not much to base it on. The apartment was very basic, reasonably clean, it's really close to the beach, and avoid the rat-race that is the main street. pool was nice(maybe to many children!), harry's bar was a little too noisy, tended too keep us up at night! Also the on-site market is the most expensive in Kalamaki but theres another just over the road and loads around the corner so its not a problem. We went on a package holiday through airtours, and the rep for the cavo doro is tracey, we did'nt have much to do with her until we checked to make sure we were seated together on the way home, which we had paid for in advance, but she told us we had to book it through her, and charged us 20euros, which stupidly we did'nt get a receipt for, and when we checked on our return found we had been involved in some kind of con. SO the moral of this story is.... don't give tracey ur money! But don't let it put u off the hotel.

Barbara F

Got back from Cavo doro last week. Had a great time, weather was brill in the 40,s. Take mozzy repelent though I got bit so many times my leg swelled and had to go to Dr. Akis and Alison are great they own the bar in hotel. Sorry to everyone that has raved about Harrys we did not like it thought it was dirty and did not even try the food. Trip to smuggleres cove was great and we went to turtle island which was great also. Dont book through your rep its so much cheaper off the guys on the road. Only bad thing I have to say was I thought the cleaning could have been a bit better, and it was very basic. The rep Tracey is rubbish she is not really interested. But we will be returning next year it was best holiday ever had.

Alexadra J

no words to say except from the obvious fact that my family and i had the best holiday of all-times at the cavo doro hotel.everything was perfect:the rooms were clean, the people there were very friendly and especially the girls at the cavo doro SUPER MARKET.Angie, nick the greek, jane, nicky and helen are some of the fridliest guys we met at kalamaki resort, dimis and his workers from the restaurant were really nice.the weather here is unbearable.39-42 degrees celcious every day.the beach was lovely as well as the seawater.one important thing to mention is that things trhere are so cheap that you want ot buy everything there and of course you should buy everything from the cavo doro SUPER MARKET.there you will find anything you want at the best prices.please contact with me for any further information.thank you and heve a great holiday at the cavo doro hotel.

just arrived back after two weeks in zante and the holiday was great, had two bad days of storms the day atfter we arrivd but after that it was very hot,the apartments were very basic but were clean and were a good location . the pool was a bit small and there are no kids pool but could use other hotels .The food and drinks were very cheap i reccomend dimi and harrys which is at the front of the apartments the food was great and so were the staff also mermaids is very good ,the cavo d'ora bar at the reception was our best. Akis was fab and there was a play station and things to keep the kids happy .
Did a boat trip round the island which was all day and very boaring went to he caves and shipwreck island which was good but after that was a bit much but you can do half a day trip which would be better .The beach was ok buti have been to cleaner ,go out on peddle boat to see the turtles they were huge the kids loved it .be prepared when you are coming home the airport is a joke so take drinks and snacks you have long waits .will go back there in a few years as they are great people and is a nice place .say hi to Akis in the main bar and well done greece .

the airport!!!! you are picked up about 3-4 hrs before departure, you line up outside the terminal, they let you in 20 by 20 to check in, then you join another line for passport control which takes you back outside the airport...take water, it is hot standing in heat for so long..once pass that it is okay approx two hrs it took us,then its just waiting for your departure to come up. good luck

Sean K

hello barbara, no there is no cooker in the b&b apartments, the view from our apartment was off the complex, but were your front door is you could see the sea a matter off 200 yrds away and it is fantastic.
hope you enjoy your stay....

Barbara F

If there is no fridge in the rooms can you hire a mini one.

Barbara F

Thanks for your comments Sean. Just a couple of things, does that mean no cooker either. What are the views like from the rooms? What was the problem at the airport coming home?

Sean K

we have just returned from kalamaki, the cava d'ora is a clean, freindly place with a good mixture off guests, the weather was brill, we stayed b&b which was continental only, the rooms for this package were very basic, no kettle, fridge or shower curtain, but was cleaned daily ( exept mondays) bars to go to; al'sandro was excellant run by lee from sheffield good quite surroundings live music on a wednesday a good fry up in the point break restaurant adjoining the bar, run by leah, a really nice sheffield girl.
but beware the airport is a real nightmare coming home!!!!!

Barbara F

Has anybody stayed on the B&B basis? I am trying to find out if there are any facilities in the room i.e cooker or kettle. Also what are the breakfasts like?

Claire A

we just arrived back home from our beautiful holidays.we had a lovely time sunbathing, eating and drinking.unfortunately only for a week.the evening receptionist girl will help with you for everything.not many people yet.try the zepos restaurant and i recommend you to shop only at the cavo doro super market.they have everything(super market and tourist shop)at the best prices.when you go give my kisses to Angie from claire and richard.people there are very friendly.don't forget to buy presents and as many fags as you can.fags and drinks were so cheap in zante.buy everything at the cavo doro super market.they have great offers.

Hazel D

Can anyone please advise if this is near the centre and near the Down Under bar as i dont want to have to stagger too far when i have had a few drinks.
Also is it near a nice beach and are there many turtles at the end of May beginning of June?

Many thanks.

Mary M

just back on 16 oct 2004,had a great 2 weeks it was as peaceful or as lively as you wanted it to be. Hotel staff all very polite and helpful
food in harry's pool bar first class also plenty of good places to eat
on your doorstep. Lovely island well worth a visit the only downside for us was the Airtours rep Emma who was the most miserable rep I have ever encountered she was simply not interested in helping anyone
too busy reading her book and smoking her fags it was obvious she didn't like to be disturbed never saw her even attempt to crack a smile in the whole 2 weeks such a shame when everyone else was so nice.

Claire A

place was ok,not in the best of rooms, got invaded by flies and the odd foul smell from the sewers. We didn't spend much time in the pool, too busy, not right for young kids. All the hotels around offer free to use pools and beds,go to Antonis, FAR BETTER.Food only tried it once, the bbq was ok, eat as much as u want for 5 euros. It was a bit repetative in Harrys bar, bingo karaoke, bingo, karaoke etc.Get out and go down the main street loads of bars. All the same proces for beers etc.If u try Sofias DON'T take any cold drinksd in for the kids they will take it of you.Never went after that.Spent most of the time in drunks corner.Great for sports/ movies action. The staff very nice. The suermarket on the main street bar far the best for , food, drinks etc and best exchange rate.Food try Zepos and pont break good value for money. This is an ideal resort for a family holiday, the beach is brilliant, clean and shallow waters for the kids.Would i go back? yes but not to the Cava doro

Shazza

Have just got back from a week in Kalamaki. These apartments were very nice. We stayed in the new block on the top floor. Only bad thing is it's not fun lugging your suitcases up all those flights of stairs! Evening receptionist very friendly and helpful, the morning/afternoon one could take a leaf out of her book. She didn't even bother to direct us to where our room was, and we luckily bumped into one of the cleaners who was very helpful and showed us there. Harry's bar is great - lovely food, great portions and excellent price. Well done for showing the Chelsea game as well! Cocktails are the best - 2 euros for a pint!! Harry and Sam - hope you catch up on your sleep soon! Will be back to see you next September, if only for 1 night!

Gary & Sarah

We returned from Kalamaki 24/09/03 after 2 weeks. We have to say this is the best holiday we have ever had, Harry made our holiday. Demetri was the greatest cook in Zante along with Sam who also looked after us well. When you get to Harry's you have to try his coctails, especially the "Orgasm". We shall be going to see the gang again next year as we enjoyed it so much. The hotel was small but clean, the maid were in every day to change sheets etc.. The staff of the hotel were all friendly and willing to do as much as possible for you.

Steven J

hi george and akis hope u read this not long now before we see u the best bar in greece only 3 weeks to go cant wait yai mas my freinds from steven and comp

Matthew R

Hi suzanne court came back 10th as you can see our report below i've put some pic of the interior of one of the appartments, not the best pics put better than nothing.Anything else just ask.

Suzanne C

i am staying at the cava d'oro late in september. although there are some great photos of the hotel, does anyone have any pics of the interior of the one bedroom apartments please? I am reaaly curious as I have read good and bad reviews about this hotel!!

Stephanie H

Got back 17/09/03 had a great week despite the weather being slightly poor.Lets put it this way when it rains there it really does RAIN! We stayed in the new block with a sea view on a self catering basis. The room was spacious and clean and with already having been on a greek island holiday we knew how basic they could be so were not shocked to find no toaster or kettle in the room. However the Lighthouse cafe across the road do a cracking breakfast!
Couldnt understand the hype about Harry or his bar, we found him to be ignorant and food was naff. Ate at a variety restaurants, the best being Castello's opposite the guru indian on the main street absolutely superb food - well recommended!!!!!!
Overall hotel location and resort were spot on. To explore Laganas or even Zante town hire a quad or a mountain bike for a reasonable rate. Be warned of the Mosquitos and be prepared for the Airport there as its very very basic.

Matthew R

Family of 2 adults and 2 children travelling with airtours.
Returned 10th September 2003 from a great 2 weeks at the Cavo Doro.Room was very spacious 1 bed appartment two beds in bedroom and a sofa bed with a pullout bed that rises to a normal bed in living room. Got a two ring hob a fridge, table & chairs and a fan in room as well.
Swimming pool is quite small and deep for small children like ours, but did'nt stop us from having some fun.
The crystal beach is a real treat it is only 200m down the road ,Kalamaki beach is a little further.
The hotel is ideally positioned close to beach and not to far away from the kalamaki strip where you will find more bars and restaurants than by the hotel. The Lighthouse is the best for breakfast at 3 euros for a standard english breakfast.Mermaids, merlis and panarama very good but our favourite must go to the taverna paris, very good food and value for money a great service.
We hired a car for 2 days from Merlis (thanks Julie your a star)and toured the island and seen some great sites.(Well worth the 60 euros Ł42).
Temperture got to 38-40 degree c in our 1st week and cooling down to the low 30's towards the end of our 2nd week.
We would fully recommend staying in Kalamaki and the Cavo Doro but you really need air con in your room in July and August which the hotel has'nt got just a fan.

Becky C

This hotel is not all its cracked up to be at all, yes it looks nice from the outside but once you enter your apartment and have been there a couple of days you realise how poor it is. For a start the cleaners are dirtier than the rooms, they use dirty water, leave hairs on the surfaces and floor, they smoke in the rooms. The shower head was broken, we kept having to complain about the lack of hot water, the doors were bowed and when it rained people were flooded, we didnt get clean linen in 2 weeks, we were given a towel with all holes in it. We had a self catering apartment but there was no kettle or toaster and if you wanted it you had to pay extra, the fan was broken and dirty, that was all the air conditioning it had and if you wanted another one again you had to pay. We were really dissappointed with our apartment and would not go back or recommend it to anyone else.

Margaret B

I stayed at the Cavo Doro last October for the very last 2 weeks of the season. I was alone and I had flown from Athens. My friend in Kalamaki, Klara of the mini market had booked a room for me at the Cavo Doro with a sea view. I have uploaded a photo of my view for the gallery. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The place was very quiet in the evenings and my room was cleaned every day and linen replaced regularly. My room was the usual basically furnished but I have to say that the location is one of the best that I have stayed at in Kalamaki. I have a message for the previous comment about Meandros. When I stayed in Kalamaki in June of this year the hotel Meandros and restaurant were closed! Only the pool was open.
Stay at the Cavo Doro instead I am sure you will be welcome

Sue A

Please can anyone tell me who the tour operater is for the "Meandros Hotel" in Kalamaki or in which broucher I will find the details.

Sue A

My family, a party of 14 returned 10/9/03 from the Cavo D'Oro which is an excellent hotel just for it's central location & especially for those who like to be close to a beautiful & quite beach. The hotel is within walking distance to a good choice of bars and restaurants, we tried quite a few during our stay and the food was excellent,(Mermaids do a wicked chocolate fudge cake to die for). The rooms at the Cavo D'Oro are small & very basic I would not recommend B&B, my daughter and brother stayed in the self catering apartments in the new block and they were far better, they had a fridge which is a big bonus, as well as the extra space. The swimming pool at the hotel is very clean but very deep & not suitable for young children who are unacompanied by an adult, but this did not stop us from having lots of fun when all in the pool together. Harry's bar is "SUPERB" air conditioned so you can eat in comfort, the food was senational as is Harry himself,he's a big football fan (Mau U rule, Sam get a stiff drink ready for Harry on 16 September he's going to need it!)and has most games on the big screen. Just one word of warning, Harry dose tend to have the sound very loud so we could not sit in the bar for very long with the men, as we could not have a converstaion without shouting at each other. "Oh if your reading this Harry get a fly trap for next year" We had an excellent holiday & would stay at this hotel again if they had air-con installed in the rooms, this is a must in Greece as you can not sleep even with a fan, just to hot. Emma our Air Tours Rep was not seen for five days and not very helpful to a member of my party when her advice & help was needed. If you are thinking of going to the Cavo D'Oro just remember you only get what you pay for, so if you are looking for a cheap holiday with beautiful beaches, good food, picturesque views & not to concerned about the accomodation this is the ideal place to stay.

Maria C

our family of 2 adults/1 child (11) have just returned from zante. overall had a great holiday but there were a few snags along the way.
first room (202) just over the top of the main bar is an appauling place if you want some peace and quiet, you have to put up with the sound of the big tv(very loud) and then just as you are about to go to bed at 2am ,when you think things will be quiet then the karoake starts.husband slept on the balcony for 4 nights as the room is like a sauna, even with a fan!!
the people in the supermarket next door are brilliant, realy friendly and very helpfull.
Emma the airtour rep is as useless as can be, she should be sacked.complaint going into airtours.

Louise T

Just got back today and loved the whole holiday. Cavo Doro was great -we tend to agree though with other comments about selfish gits putting their towels down at about 6am and not appearing till mid morning (this happens EVERYWHERE)- but they should get removed !. Harrys bar do an excellent pint of Mythos and his tuna salad is superb. Harry is a must for any footie fans - plenty of games on the big screen and football chat. DO NOT GO FOR THE B & B OPTION - as someone else said and we found out the buffet breakfast is dire - bread rolls, processed cheese, terrible tea and orange squash. If you pay you can get a decent full English in Harry's. The staff in the front bar are great and the prices fair but the girls on reception can be a bit dour. An example of this is when we got back to our room one night and the key would'nt work - thinking it was us I went and asked the reception girl if she had a spare only to discover they had changed our locks while we were out without telling us why! (Yes we had paid our bill !).

The family who run the supermarket to the left as you come out are super friendly but beware of the English magazines in Merlis supermarket up the road. My boyfriend got charged over six quid for a Ł2.50 footie mag and the fella refused to reopen the till and refund him once he had realised the horrendous price.

We were disapointed that there was no courtesy room available to shower on our last day - we checked out at 10am on Sunday and had to hang around till 3am on Monday for our 6.30am flight. 17 hours is a long time in the heat but to be honest our rep was useless and told us ask at reception if we could use a spare room - her job me thinks !.

All said and done we would stay there again and our gripes are only minor compared to the brilliant holiday we had - the location was spot on. By the way all the bar staff work like troupers and don'nt stop serving until you decide you've had enough.

Ellis W

We went last year and thought the place was OK. We had a self catering apartment in the new block with a veiw of the sea. The apartments are spacious and clean. The only real problem was the ceilings were wafer thin and you can hear every footstep and every chair bening dragged over the ceramic tiled floor, also the corridors are very echoey and and the sound of screaming kids running up and down is magnified. If you you are thinking about staying at the Cavo Doro DO NOT stay on a Bed & Breakfast basis as the breakfast is awful, the Full English breakfast at Atonis across the road is much, much better.

Andrew A

forgot to mention the girls in the supermarket are really, really nice and they recognised us after the first night and were always really chatty!

Andrew A

We thought Cavo D'Oro was great! we stayed in a studio in the new block and we had a sun terrace on the top floor with a sea view. Cleanliness was fine and the maids soon got the message that we were never out of our apartment by 9.30 and did other apartments first!

One thing I would say though is that the pool area is quite small and by the end of the holiday we were really annoyed with the number of people who put towels on the sunbeds at 8.30 and then didn't come down to the pool until 2 (or sometimes not all). A couple of times we moved the towels and had to listen to snidey remarks when the original people finally came down. I think there should be a rule that if a sunbed is untouched for more than an hour then you can move the towels cos' it is really annoying.

Apart from that it was fine though. The pool is very deep and not really for none swimmers. Harrys bar and the hotel bar are good as well and the food in Harrys is lovely, especially the BBQ on a Friday.

Mike B

Just returned (15/8) from holiday booked with Airtours. Maid service every day. Bedding changed once during stay (most unimpressed). Everything else was brill. Harry's bar gr8. Pool, location, beach (200m away). What can I say-Brill.

Ideal for base to explore or just laze away on beach or by pool.

Booking return visit when I've finished this!

Lyndsay F

hi just got back from cavo doro apartments a week ago and we loved it there! the people are extremely friendly and helpful! the maids come everyday the towels and bed linen gets changed every two days! make sure u spend time in harrys bar hes lovely and the food is good too try the crispy chicken!!!

Sue A

Hello Matthew, thank you for the information on the maid service this is most helpful, I'm also going to the Caro Doro in four weeks time with my mad family do you fancy meeting up in the bar for a few drinks?

Matthew R

RE:-Maid service

Maid came in every day except Sunday, bed linen and towels changed every two days.Going again in 4 weeks with the mad family all 13 of us, can't wait.

Sue A

Please can anyone tell me if clean towels are changed on a daily basis we are staying at the Carvo Doro in late August B&B

Sue C

Spent a brilliant 2 weeks at cavo doro last year - can't believe anyone can not have a good time there. Coming back to Zante on 27th July - have to stay elsewhere but will be visiting Harrys pool bar cos it's what Zante's all about, and our son Daniel wouldn't go back to Kalamaki unless we promised him breakfast and evening drinks at Harrys. Not been many reviews this year so far but will be writing an excellent one I'm sure in a couple of weeks. See you soon Harry and gang. Sue Mick and Daniel xxx

Sara W

Arrived back from Kalamaki on 9th July after a 2 week break. We had been booked to stay at Cavo D'oro but moved to another Hotel because not enough room to swing a kitten let alone a cat, room was old and shabby and also was'nt cleaned from last people when given the keys. Was told we had been given the old block. So if you have paid good money for your holiday, be prepared.

Joe L

Just back from Cava D'oro and I can't complain at all, it was the best holiday we ever had! We stayed in a studio looking out over the sea, it had a huge balcony and the view was amazing! The room was nice, small but plenty of room for 2...had a fridge, 2 ring cooker, sink, wardrobes, bedside lockers and a fan...The shower lacking a curtain is just a Greece thing....in our hotel in Athens (4 star) there was also no shower curtain. As for the resort, couldnt really complain! Harrys is the best pool bar I've ever seen, fully airconditioned, 3 TVs (1 huge), good lunch menu. Unfortunately I got food poisoning at Harrys one night (Dont eat the chicken curry...its nice to eat, disgusting to vomit) and I heard of someone getting poisoned from the BBQ at Harry's so beware of the food! The pool is very nice, very deep and clean! Plenty of sunbeds, we never had a problem getting one! The bar at the front was excellent....George was one of the most friendly persons on the island, and the "Winner Takes All" is magic. Between my girlfriend and I we won 213 euro, we spent no more than 40 euro playing it over the two weeks between us! As for the receptionists, they seemed very polite and nice to me, cant see why everyone else is complaining! The supermarket people were unnaturally friendly, always smiling and there with big waves and hellos! The cleaning was the most thorough job I've seen in the room so also top marks for it! I'd definitely return to Cava Doro, best place on the island, best bar on the island! If you're booking a studio make sure you request a sea view!

Chris C

The girls in the shop (to the right as you look out of the hotel I mean) are great - they know me year after year `The diet coke man`!
Hi Julie, money permitting it`ll be another in Sept, off in 10 days for a fortnight and can`t wait! (well done the bluebirds by the way!)

Julie A

EXCELLENT PLACE WITH THE BEST VIEW IN KALAMAKI. THE ROOMS AT THE CAVO DORO HOTEL WERE VERY CLEAN AND PEACEFUL. THE BEST HOLIDAYS I EVER HAD WERE IN KALAMAKI AT THE CAVO DORO HOTEL. THERE IS A WHOLE COMPLEX.THERE IS THE POOL BAR, THE RECEPTION BAR, THE RESTAURANT AND THE SUPER MARKET. THE CAVO DORO SUPER MARKET IS THE BEST SUPER MARKET IN KALAMAKI WITH THE BEST PRICES AT THE BEST QUALITY AND VARIETY.MY FAMILY AND I CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK THERE TO VISIT THE GIRLS FROM THE SUPER MARKET. ANGIE, HELEN AND JEAN ARE THE BEST. THEY WERE THE FRIENDLIEST PEOPLE MY FAMILY AND I HAVE EVER MET.

Julie A

MY BEST HOLIDAYS EVER.PEOPLE WERE SO FRIEDLY THERE THAT I CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK IN SEPTEMBER. THE OWNERS OF THE SUPER MARKET WERE THE FRIENDLIEST OF ALL. THEY GAVE MY CHILDREN MANY PRESENTS. HARRY AT THE POOL BAR WAS O.K BUT VERY EXPENSIVE. AKIS AT THE RECEPTION BAR WAS GREAT. HE RUNS THE BEST KARAOKE PROGRAMME IN KALAMAKI.
THE ROOMS AT THE CAVO DORO HOTEL WERE NICE, QUIET AND VERY BASIC.
I RECOMMEND IT TO ALL FAMILIES WITH SMALL CHILDREN. THE GIRLS FROM THE SUPER MARKET CAN ALSO BABY SIT FOR YOU. THINGS WERE REALLY CHEAP THERE. IF YOU GO THERE BEFORE ME GIVE MY GREETINGS TO ANGIE AND HELEN FROM THE SUPER MARKET.

Julie P

Lisa, we had a fridge in our room, but then again we booked with airtours on a self catering basis, maybe if you take the b&b option you presumably dont get one..?

Chris, have a good one... hopefully see ya in Sept?

As for the Bluebirds... we got there, after a fight, admitted, but fair n square.. good luck to your boys next season...

Linda M

Had a great time in Kalamaki and I would recommend the Cavo Doro to anyone. The beach is safe for children and excellent for swimming or just lazing. Did not have a bad meal but especially liked Paris, Aphrodite and Stanis above beach. Booked all tours with Spring Tours across the road, cheaper than the rep. Enjoy your holidays, I would be back tomorrow

Lisa M

HI CATHY SALE!! WHY DIDN'T YOU JUST ASK ME YOU SILLY SOD THE ANSWER IS NO THERE IS'NT A FRIDGE IN THE ROOM, THE BREAKFAST IS SET OUT BY THE POOL IN THE MORNINGS AND CONSISTS OF CEREAL, FRESH FRENCH ROLLS AND COLD MEATS AND CHEESE JAM ETC. YOU DON'T GET A FRIDGE IN YOUR ROOM AS THEY ARE ONLY BASIC BUT TO BE HONEST YOU DON'T NEED ONE AS THE FOOD IS LOVELY EVERYWHERE YOU GO AND IS FAIRLY CHEAP. ENJOY!

Cathy S

I AM STAYING B & B IN JULY 03 CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THERE IS A FRIDGE IN THE ROOM - IF IT'S B & B DO YOU GET STUDIO OR 1 BED APARTMENT ?????

Chris C

May see you in Sept julie, I know I can`t afford a hol after July but I`ll end up suicidal on my return and going back out! We won`t be in Cavo again, more suited to families than our group of lads which is no disrespect at all to the hotel and probably a good thing for the families!

(btw I see Cardiff scraped it lol, we Spireites scraped survival!!!!)

Julie P

We stayed twice at Cavo Doro last year, firstly in May, none-the-wiser booked a studio..it was pretty basic, with hardly enough room to swing a kitten, let alone a cat!

Furnishings were shoddy and the fridge was growing things in it. The loo didnt flush, and after several visits from the maintenance man, who was sweet but spoke and understood very limited english and shrugged a lot, problem was resolved...

We were promised a fan in our room, which was missing..we kicked up and one was provided, which only worked when a large hardback novel was propped between the bed and the plug to secure it in the wall socket!!

Our terrace wasnt the best place to relax,it was quite noisy as it was overlookin the main walkway through the hotel gardens leading from hotel bar & chives restaurant towards the pool and newer 1 bed apartment block.

Accomadation aside, we received a very warm welcome from the crew at Cavo, mentioning Akis & Georgie at the hotel bar, and especially Harry & George at the Pool bar, where we ended up sampling the culinary delights of Dimitri the chef for the majority of our stay..there is a varied and delicious evening menu with value for money possibly the best on the island! Try it...

Which brings me to to our later stay in early October, we booked direct and were allocated a one bed apt in the new block.. what an improvement! We even had a dining table in the kitchenette area! New fridge and furniture, comfy sofa and plenty of room to manoeuvre.. plus a fabulous sea view, (if u ask 4 it..higher floor, sea view)

Everyone remembered us, and there were hugs and kisses a plenty! It felt just like coming home...we're going to Turkey in June, but are definately booking 4 Cavo in September.. see y'all out there!

Julie W

Just come back. Studio room very small, 3rd bed was a folding bed only suitable for smaller children. Although these rooms are self catering, it is impossible to self cater at all as there are only 2 rings & we only had one large pan and 1 frying pan (no cupboards to store food etc). very limited clothes space, no table and 1 chair & Buffett (unless you sit on verander). The room was spotless, the maid came in most days, unlike others we spoke to our furniture (what we had) was ok, apart from pillows which were like rock. Having said all that it was not too bad and we were there 2 weeks. We did try to pay to upgrade to 1 bedroom apartment but was told no rooms avaiable (in actual fact there was and it was the person that threw the loudest tantrum that got it) so if your unhappy, throw a strop!!

Adi P

We went and we carn't belive you can write all those nice things about the place. We were in a room were the cupboards were disgusting (hanging off) the bunkbed was a death trap, the door lock looked as though it had been broken into and whats worse is that we even had lizards in our room.

Laura

Hi. Going to Cava Doro Apartments for first time in June, and was wondering if there any fridges available to hire, even for those staying on BB basis? Thanks.

Sue C

Hi Doreen
We booked the Cava Doro with Airtours and it is in the brochure this year too. Don't know of any way to book direct.

Julie W

Thankyou Sue for your help it was much appreciated.

Doreen K

Is there a travel operator you use or can I book hotel room only and get flights separately. I am looking for a room for 2 adults and 1 girl of 12 years of age for dates around June 27th either for 1 week or 2.
Kind regards
Doreen

Sue C

Hi. We stayed here in August and had the best holiday ever. There was a fridge in our room and safety deposit boxes in reception which you pay a little bit for can't remember how much. As to accommodation - depends on what you are after really. 5star luxury isn't exactly the Greek thing but the rooms were clean but basic. Maids came in every day except Sunday I think, we had a childs bed put up which took up a lot of the room but to be honest we only used the room to sleep and change - too much to do to stay in. Will put some photos on site soon for you to see but can't stress too much how good a time we had. Harrys pool bar is just excellent - Harry is definitely one of a kind and the pool bar a great place to start and finish the day. (comes into his own when the football is on!!!) Can recommend the food aswell but we tended to go out and explore the different tavernas however the breakfast couldn't be beaten. Cave bar just up the road has to be one of the most romantic places - even with a child in tow! Loved it there - couple of coctails to start the evening off went down a treat. 2 minutes walk to beach - only bad part we didn't see a turtle though it wasn't for the lack of trying - apparantly we were a bit late in the year for them. Other good food places Paris and the one over the road from there can't remember name but they have a decent greek night - join in with the dancers kind of thing. We like the Greek food so tended to eat the greek way but apparantly there are plenty of places offering english food if you want it. Zepos over the road from the beach also good though we just had lunch there. If you need any other advice just ask but I'm sure you'll have a great time. And say hi to Harry and his crew from me. Can't wait to go back but hubby away in Kuwait at moment so don't even know if we'll get a holiday but thats the only place we'll be going back to. Can't wait!

Julie W

Can anyone tell me if there are any safes's to hire in reception! also is there a fridge supplied in the s/c studios or do you have to pay to rent?

Julie W

I am staying at the Cava D'Ooro in may 2003, im rather concerned as i have heard a lot of bad reports about the Studios, the one bed aprtm, ents sound nice though. Has anyone stayed in them recently or know if they have been refurbished over the winter months. Im seriously considering changing my location as the last thing i need is another holiday from hell. PLEASe help if you can!

Pete C

We stayed in Cavo D'ora on our honeymoon in October 2002 and although we were initially disapointed with the room (apparently standard in Greece), as we had not been to Greece before, our worries very quickly disappeared, we only used it to sleep and shower and. Situated on the beach road in the middle of all the Bars & resaurants, the food is exellent at the pool bar and I can recommend kalamaki Claude's bar across the road. Dont go to the rooftop Restaurant next door. Its only a 5 minute walk to the lovely Kalamaki beach (another short walk to the left end if you like to go nude) on which you can walk all the way Laganas which is about 2 miles and a good hours walk. The staff are very friendly and helpful, we had extra pillows within minutes of asking, rooms were seviced daily especially the loo paper bin. We'd love to go back this year but the 2 weeks we have off are fully booked but I will still use the facilities.

Josh S

Went to the cavo doro september 12-september 26.Best holiday we ever had, will definateley return.Situated in a friendly, beautiful location. We would recomend this superb hotel ton any one searching a hotel in Kalamki. Going again in may cant wait.

Grant M

Ive added a few photo's but I notice that it says that there are 0 photo's in the database....but if you click on view photo's they are there.Hope they help answer any questions

Joe L

Going to Cava Doro in July 2003 for two weeks. The good reports seem excellent, but some comments are a bit worrying. We're looking for a clean apartment and a good nightlife. Rotten wood seems a bit disgusting, is it really that bad? The staff sound nice but we don't want to live in filth for two weeks. Please dont reply with biased bull please!

Neil B

HI GOING TO CAVA D'ORA STUDIO APARTMENT AUGUST03FOR A TWO WEEK HONEYMOON COULD ANYBODY LET ME KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY DOUBLE BEDS AVAILABLE.

We are going to Cava d'oro apartments next week and would like to know where they are situated in Kalamaki, what are the nearest apartments or hotels. Is there a site that gives you a street map of Kalamaki, listing all the apartments? Can anyone help?

Nicola M

booked the cavo doro 2 days before we left so didnt know what we were in for but we were pleasantly surprised, room was good but no showerhead or curtain so the bathroom was covered with water but apart from that it was a lovely holiday, 3 mins from beach and restaurants poolbar food good but Chives Rooftop restaurant horrible!! You wouldn't notice really the aircraft noise either. Lovely holiday!!!

We are coming to Zante at the start of July next year (2003). We are staying at the Cavo Doro for 14 nights B+B and would like to know if it is decent and if there is anything we should be aware of. R there loads of mozzies? Does everything cost loads? We've been to Rhodes this year (2002) but thats it in Greece. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Karen R

We went in 2001 and stayed in a studio. The stat was excellent and they arranged a birthday party for our three year old grandson. The pool area was great, location could not have been better close to the beach and bars, although there was no noise at night. We will be going again in 2003 if posible

Stuart P

We were at the hotel for 2 weeks in july and had a great time ! All the staff seem to work together and make your stay a memorable one. The girls who do the cleaning work none stop and we found the rooms superb. The location was ideal, close to the beach, easy walking distance to other bars/restaurants but you did not really need them for the bar at the pool side was excellent ! Harry and the lads made each day welcoming and I was glad to see another big Ferrari fan even though my brother in law was clled "loser" for a fortnight for supporting McClaren. Thanks once again for a great holiday and who knows we return in the near future. P.S Harry if you ever want a good deal on a Bentley - you have my number.

Laura C

the new blocks have the same showers as the old! how the hell r u meant 2 shower properly in them?? lol! it was a great place though -- always clean after the maids have been it!

Steve B

About the aircraft noise - negligable. Don't pay airtours the transfer price - get a taxi its far cheaper and no messing about.

Steve B

Just come back. There are old blocks of rooms between the pool and the hotel entrance and there is some noise from people returning from clubs etc having sampled too much ouzo, but that can be expected anywhere. The old blocks have very basic rooms - shower without screen or anywhere to hang the showerhead so all the bathroom gets soaked and the furniture has all seen better days. Fridge and kettle can be hired seperately if any are left!! No Air Con. Still the rooms were kept clean. There is a newer block of twin room on the far side of the pool and these are nice with a wonderfull view. Value for money.

Sue C

Hi Fred Lying on the beach you can see the planes going in over Laganas but surprisingly enough you don't hear the noise at all. The great thing is Kalamaki only being 5 minutes drive from the airport - none of this long transfer time - and with none of the noise you expect. Start your countdown and look forward!!!

Fred H

I've been organised this year and booked a fortnight in one of the one bedroom apartments for May/June 2003. Have read the comments and have been pleased by the info. The brochures mention there is some aircraft noise in Kalamaki -is this a nuisance at Cavo Doro? I presume not as most of the comments say quietness is excellent.

Stayed in Cavo D’Oro – 14 –28 August 2002 and had the time of our lives. So much so that we’ve had mega depression at coming home! Rooms basic, bit crowded with kids bed up but clean and well maintained and more than adequate for sleeping, which is all you need it for anyway. The main appeal for Cavo D’Oro has to be the fantastic pool bar with Harry, definitely the place to be. Starting off with the best breakfast in Kalamaki (don’t believe the hype from other places), great lunch and dinner menu, all served with Harry’s own unique charisma, everyone feels like they’ve known him for ever. Service and food great and with some of the best prices around. This has to be the place to start and finish any day, if only for the laughs, not to mention cocktails. George’s “ Sex on the Beach” has to be sampled, as I did at least 4 times a night! Also the best place to watch the football, sorry Harry but Newcastle are definitely this seasons champions! Take your earplugs if you support Man Utd as Harry is very vocal in his opinions on that score! Still managed to be great with our son Daniel even though he sported a David Beckham shirt for a fortnight! Found hotel staff helpful – didn’t notice the miserable reception staff mentioned in previous reports. However, if you approach most people with a smile and a nice word then the majority will be friendly back. Cavo D’Oro is 5 minutes walk from the lovely beach, and in the middle of a whole range of Greek tavernas. Laganas is a 5 minute taxi ride (5 euros), so you really do have the best of both worlds if you stay here. This might not appeal to someone wanting 5 star room facilities, but the 5 star plus treatment you get from Harry and his lads puts this hotel far above any of the posher ones in the brochure. We can’t wait til we can go back – the sooner the better and wouldn’t stay anywhere else. Thanks Harry for a great holiday – and Happy New Year!!!!! Sue Mick and Daniel (Beckham) Cullum

Grant M

Our normal style holiday is 14 days in the sun, either at the pool or on the beach. Then we take great delight in getting ready for a night out and picking a different restaurant each night. We have always said that we would never holiday anywhere twice (there is a big world out there!) This year we have broken all our own rules!! We stayed at the Cavo D'oro 17/07/02 - 31/07/02 and on 02/08/02 we booked to return next year. On the first night of this years holiday we ate at one of the local restaurants, the second night we ate at the Poolside Bar/Restaurant of the Cavo D'oro and there we ate for the rest of the holiday! So what caused us to break the pattern - Harry (Lambis) ,George , Andreas and Demitris. Harry owns/runs the poolside bar, George and Andreas (Harrys nephews) served the food and drinks, and Dimitris cooked a variety of superb meals both in quality and quantity. There is a Sign on the bar that reads " There are no strangers here , Just friends that have not met yet." This message seems to break down the normal barriers some of us Brits hide behind and "strangers" soon became "Friends". See you all again soon!!! Young Man & Old Woman.

WE STAYED AT CAVO DORO IN 2001 AND WE ARE RETURNING IN 2003 WE THINK ITS THE BEST

Sarah M

hi! I thought that cavo doro Aparthotel has been the best hotel/apartments that i have ever stayed in and i am hopefully going back again next year! You would really enjoy staying here in kalamaki. It has plenty of night life but it quietens down at a reasonable time! i would highly recomend cavo doro aparthotel! hope to see u all soon! luv sarah xoxox

Bob G

THIS WAS OUR SECOND YEAR AT CAVO DORO THE APARTMENTS ARE BASIC BUT CLEAN THE FRONT BAR IS AIR CONDITIONED AND VERY PLEASANT WE STAYED THERE BETWEEN 10.07.02 AND 24.07.02 BUT BEST OF ALL IS THE POOL AND POOL BAR AND THE MAN WHO MAKES IT THE BEST IS LABIS HE DOES THE BEST DRINKS BEST FOOD IS THE MOST FRIENDLY SO IF YOU GO THERE SAY HELLO TO LABIS GEORGE & ANDREW AND THE BEST CHEF IN KALAMAKI JUST SAY BOB JAN JODIE AMY MARIA NICK CLOE CHARLOTTE SAID THIS IS THE BEST BAR OB ZANTE AND IF YOU DO GO YOU WILL LOVE IT HOPE TO BE BACK NEXT YEAR

Mark B

I cannot believe the other comments i've just been reading. Is this the same place??? It was awful. The receptionist was the most miserable person I've ever met. The room was horrendous, not to mention the so called bathroom. We walked in and were trying to find the rest of the apartment. 2 adults and 2 children do not fit in these rooms. The kids bed was ancient and the springs screeched mercilessly with every turn. The bathroom was just a quagmire after use, and there were no fans as advertised. We did not see the rooms in the new block so can only assume that the other comments were about those. Admittedly the gardens and grounds and pool area were clean and pretty and well kept, but the rooms overlooking the garden pathway were sub standard and not recommended.

Mark T

Stayed at Cavo Doro in the new block (behind the pool bar) and it was the nicest accomodation I have ever stayed in on a package holiday!! The reception/bar at the front is really nice and friendly, but it's when you get to the pool bar(labi's) at the back and meet Harry that the fun begins...What a top bloke, all the drinks and food you could ever want, and if he's busy he lets you help yourself!!! the only problem we had with 'Harry' was half the time he wouldn't except our money for the drinks we had! Also every Monday was a massive BBQ on a beautiful poolside grill and all the food, as much as you could eat, was FREE!!! As we were from Cardiff on our last day 'Harry' announced it was Tom Jones day in our honour and played Tom all day....Probably pissed the english off but the Welsh loved it...As 'Harry' would say "COME ON"

Sarah T

Stayed here in May this year, previous visit to Kalamaki we stayed in the Rania(Colditz). Found the staff at the Cava D'oro very friendly, Hari made the holiday, always pleasant and accomodating on the food front. Location central to everything in Kalamaki, apartments in new block spacious and exteremly clean. Gardens well maintained, pool spotless, never had any problem getting a sunbed, and no I didn't have to get to the pool at 5.00am!. Rooms are basic, but what do you expect on holiday! Films on nearly every afternoon for kids, adults in the evening. We had a great time and would not hesitate recommending the place to anyone. If anyone didn't get on with 'ari, it must have been because you were a Manchester United Fan!!!, he loves everyone else!

Sue C

HI Forgot to ask last time but do all the appartments have air conditioning as the brochure does say they do. Also, did you go to the cave bar and if so, were children allowed or is it only for the over 25s as stated on website. Thanks for your help

Sue C

Thanks Kat Sounds just the job. As you say it's only to sleep in and sounds ok for that! Glad you had a good time. Can't wait for Aug 14th!! Have fun

Kat

Sue, the studio apartments are imacculately clean if a little on the small side. The rooms are basically for 2 people, but we had 3 sharing and the extra cot bed made it a bit cramped - but hey! - we only slept there. The water seems to be hot at 8am-ish and 6pm-ish, but we were there 13-27th June in a 40 degree heat so warm showers were definitely OUT!! The bins are emptied every day except Sunday, and your sheets are changed on the 3rd day. People have complained about the smell of the sewers. All I can say is - Greek plumbing + heat = a bit of a whiff. It's not that bad. We were in room 115, right by the stench pipe (about 20ft away) and it was no problem. The pool area is a bit on the small side for the number of sunbeds squeezed around it - you feel a bit like a sardine and if you are not out ther by 8am you won't get a bed - every one will have towel on it. So I went to the pool at hotel Klelia (this will be the hotel I'll stay in the next time I'm in Kalamaki). Go out of Cavo d'Oro onto main rd, turn left and it's 40yds on the right. The pool is bigger with a freestyle design, very children friendly if you have kids, and there is much more room. You will always get a sunbed no matter what time you get there. The barman is lovely and won't try to rip you off like the one in d'Oro. The food in Klelia is great too. Back to Cavo d'Oro - the Chives restaurant is very nice, especially the rooftop section. Do NOT use the apartment's phone unless you really have to. Half an hour's worth of calls over 14 days cost us 100Euros. The card phones don't work in Kalamaki, and the coin phones use your money faster than you can put the money in. Take your mobile (I forgot mine!). In summary , I thoroughly enjoyed Kalamaki, and would definitely recommend the Cavo d'Oro to others

Sue C

can anyone tell me more about the studio apartments please. Also, does the Cave bar allow children as I'm sure I read somewhere that its over 18s only? Where are the best places to visit? And is it easy to get round the island?

Julie P

Ann,we returned from Cavo Doro last week. Weather was on average a scorching 33dC! I reckon Antonis has a better pool area, but Harry (Lambis) has a far superior pool Bar, he now does a full evening menu; everything from T Bone Steak to Mexican Chicken Chimichanga & Hawaian Chicken curry. (Not forgetting the English Breakfasts & Sunday Dinner!) Forget Chives, try Lambie's! Best prices on the Island too..good drinks prices too. Accomodation is basic (as in most of Greece), but locals & tourists alike are the friendliest on the planet! When you go say hi to George & Lambis at the pool bar, also Akis & Georgi at the front bar, which is also excellent..karaoke, quiz, TV, music...from Julie, Nigel & Jamie (Cardiff)!!

Alison W

hotel and studios are pretty much the same , small but adequate .All are in the same area .

Ann P

This is our first visit to cavo doro....stayed the last 4 times at the atonis...most comments are about the hotel, please could someone tell me about the studios........just to be forwarned ...just incase...you never know...thank you Ann

Alison W

hi just got back from 2 weeks at cavo dora we had the best time !! The hotel is located very close to the beach on flat road so easy to walk to.we were lucky to see lots of turtles best time was after 4.oopm prices of the pedalos vary between 9euros and 15 euros so a walk along the beach to Laganas will save you money .We were in the new block which had a large bedroom and good bed sette in the living area , cooking facilitys were minimal 2rings ,no kettle and a sink .Very little storage room .The food at the poolbar Labis is the best for price size and location .I cannot wait to return .Oh prices 0.5l of larger at the bar 2euros , ouzo 1.5euros .SAy hi to Aki and Labi .Aki does a good line in early evening films .

Steve J

Just come back from this brilliant hotel, Having tried most eating places in the area, we found out that Labi and his pool bar was the best food and most reasonable prices. Guests from other hotels seemed to turn up at this hotel in the evenings, making it a great place to stay. We would recommend it as a great place to stay, especially for young children. Labi seems genuine when he calls you, 'My friend'. Would go there again.

Chris C

Cheers for that - apparently in some countries the euro has been an excuse to put prices up!!! As a `lager lout` lol I`ll be ok then!!! I was hoping Labeast would have gone but, never mind, there`s always Antonis appts and the Cavo shop to get my drinks from.............heh heh!

Kevin P

Hi Chris, we came back two weeks agao. The prices are very good on most items, including day to day shopping. The only thing we found expensive was stuff like chocolates, magazines and papers and drinks or cocktails in Laganas. And yes Labis is still at the pool bar :).

Chris C

Quick question to those who`ve just come back from Zante - how has the euro affected prices - has it been an excuse to put them up? Also, anyone seen Brian and Heather who were Dj and bar in Angels? Also, I take it Labis is still at Cavo Pool Bar? Many thanks

Kevin P

Hello, we stayed in Cavo D'oro studios from 9th May to 16th May and it was fantastic. The room was small but to be honest we werent staying there much, only sleeping! The staff were pretty friendly including Akis who was brilliant,he really made us feel welcome. Say hi to him for me. The beach is lovely, and the resruraunt next door, Chives, was superb with really friendly staff. The pool bar also serves very nice food too. The hotel is undergoing improvements at the moment so dont expect luxury, we had a small problem with hot water but they sorted it very quickly. I would relly advise the Rescue club in Laganas for one of your night out stops, it was brilliant! Altogether a fantastic holiday, really sad to leave but will definitely be going again.

Dave&julie J

THE CAVO D'ORO HAS IMPROVED 100% THIS YEAR. NEW BAR AND RECEPTION AREA, MORE HOT WATER, AND THE ROOMS AS GOOD AND AS CLEAN AS EVER.THE MAID SERVICE IS 4 TIMES WEEKLY. AS FOR LABI'S POOL BAR...STILL BEST BREAKFAST AND NOW HE HAS A FULL MENU HIS T-BONE STEAK IS FANTASTIC.THANKS ALSO TO MARIE NANNA PAUL DEBS SARAH GEORGE (THE BARMAN) BRIAN AND BRENDA AND MOST OF ALL LABI HE MADE ALL OUR HOLLIDAYS GREAT. THANK YOU LABI.THIS PLACE KEEPS GETTING BETTER

Linda Y

Staying in Cava D'Oro, Kalamaki, mid May, B & B - is there any brewing up facilities and fridge in rooms? Also heard that some rooms did not have balconies and those that did were communal walkways, is this true? Can anyone recommend a good bike hire place and any out of town walking routes.

Chris C

most reports are that it is a very good hotel - I had no problems and am staying there again in July. the pool is not dirty and the flats are cleaned every day. One of the best in Kal! weather should be 26-31 degrees when you go and mainly sunny and dry!

Alison W

going at the end of may can any one tell me what the hotel is like I read some bad reviews on a holiday truths website saying pool and appartments were dirty .also what ar the temperatures like then ?

Glenda G

Kalamaki was fantastic but the Cavo Doro is pitiful the staff are rude and unpleasant except for the cleaners and Georgia. Had a great time away from the apartments would recommend Rainbows for good cheap food.Antonis has a great pool and entertainment.

Dave&julie J

BEST PLACE TO STAY BY FAR. STAYED THERE LAST YEAR GOIN BACK IN MAY THIS YEAR. 100% GREAT PLACE CLEAN FRIENDLY, VISIT LABIS POOL BAR GREAT COCKTAILS AND BRILL TIME'S OPEN ALL HOURS AND BEST BREAKFAST ON ISLAND.
