Majestic Spa Hotel

Accommodation in Laganas

Vicky S

I have just returned from a last minute weeks holiday at the Hotel Victoria. The hotel was perfect, near to the beach, bars and shops the hotel staff were really friendly and the hotel bar cheap and makes the best pina colada. We had a room right at the front which between 7-12.30am was noisy due to the "Bounty Bar" which was across the street which plays soul and funk which was right up our street so didn't bother us at all. I would recommend. I will be visiting again.

Dear all, this hotel is back to normal, and has been for some time. As stated below, it was never closed and no cases of Legionella found. Guests were removed as a precautionary measure by some tour operators. Better safe than sorry!!

Rick O

I'm due to arrive Thursday and have just found this website with the information about the Victoria :-( Is everything back to normal now or should I request to be transferred?? TIA.

Tina

whats the latest on this hotel has everything settled down now. I'm due to travel in september

After having contacted the hotel's manager, as we have been concerned about the rymours about the legeonella desease, we were demonstrated approved docoments by the WINTON Health and Safety Institute, UK which state that the hotel is completely out of danger. it never had this bacterium of Legeonella, as the 20 water samles that were taken proved all negative. In spite of this, the hotel was never closed by anyone. it was just few companies that removed their clients for fear of this desease. it operates normally and everyone is welcome to see the official and veryfied documents of both the Greek and English public health organisations that certify it's cleaninless and completely out of danger situation regarding the Legeonella desease. It is not fair for tourists to be getting worried for an anexisting reason.

BOTH CRESTEN AND MYSELF WANTED TO STAY AT THE VICTORIA AS I AM DISABLED AND NEED AIR CONDITIONING, FRIDGE AND A QUIET ROOM VERY CLOSE TO ALL FACILITIES, AS I CAN WALK ONLY SHORT DISTANCES. WE BELIEVE THAT THE VICTORIA IS OF HIGHER STANDARD THAN BOZIKIS, WHERE WE WERE MOVED IN. IT IS NOT NOISY AS SUGGESTED BY THE AIRTOUR'S REP AND WE FEEL THAT WE HAVEBEEN MISLED REGARDING THE REASON FOR THECHANGE OF HOLIDAY. WE HAVESEEN FOROURSELVES THE FACILITIES AND THE LAST RESULTS AND AIRTOURS HAVE OVEREACTED.THE AIRTOURS REP LEAD US TO BELIEVE THAT THERE WAS AN OUT BREAK OF LEGIONAIR'S DESEASE AND THIS IS NOT THE CASE. BOZIKIS PALACE IS COMPLETELY UNSUITABLE AND OF A MUCH LOWER STANDARD (BASIC ROOMS WITH NO TV, AIR CONDITIONING, LOVELY BALCONY'S, SWIMMING POOL, NICE VIEW, ETC. CRESTEN, SAMANTHA

Asha P

just two days before leaving home we were told that our accomodation has been cancelled due to LD and the only alternative accomodation was Andreola's beach hotel, which was of the same standard.Having visited the victoria hotel, there is no comparison between Andreolas and Victoria, the victoria is so far a superior hotel. Andreolas is by a river which is stagnent and even had a dead rat in it. the 50 GBP compensationis not sufficient in comparison to our losses. the andreolas is not central to all amenities, whereas the Victoria is. we originally booked our holiday for victoria hotel but on arriving we were told that the victoria was under suspicion for legeonella.we were transferred to bozikis palace, laganas.we have booked for 2 triple bed rooms, but we were taken to a hotel that is much inferior that the victoria that we have paid for. the bozikis palacehas no pool, no air condition, no TV, no Fridge, hardly any hot water and only supplementarybed for third person. the rooms are not spacious and the resort is much inferior than the onewe have booked. now that we are on the island we visited victoria and it never was closed.it is a marvelous hotel in the center of laganas. we also made some pictures of it's fully-equiped, with a wonderful view to the pool and the full of green gardens. Airtours lied to us about the conditions of victoria, saying that it had legeonella, as I was demonstrated approved confirmation from a Brithish health and safety institue saying that due to 20 sample tests of the hotel's water, itis completely out of danger and it never faced such a problem and as a proof of this, if there has been any bacteria the Greek and British health dep. thathave tested it would have closed it down, something that never has harrened.anyway, our needs and preferences were not met by Airtours or bozikis palace. We went to see the grounds and rooms of hotel victoria and theresort for which we paid for. it catered for our needs at the major and we strongly believe that victoria hotel and it's location is what we have paid for.we believe that the 40 pounds compensation by Airtours is completely dissatisfactory compared to the loss we have suffered. therefore, we feel that we have been cheated by Airtours by all means and a much higher compensation has to be achieved.

I spoke to our tour operator yesterday (Odyssey) who have said that they sent a team of British experts to check out the hotel. Apparently for the hotel to be declared safe you need 3 clear checks, the hotel has received two and will be getting the third result through in a couple of days. If the hotel checks are clear then we HAVE to stay as the accommodation will be called safe. However, I don't wish to go there now because of this! Has anyone heard of any reported cases of this happening or what?

Colin R

Rimmer, can I also ask your opinion about the Poseidon Beach Hotel as we have been transferred there? Cheers Colin

Emma

Rimmer Do you know what Hotel Astir Palace is like? I have been transfered there from the Victoria.

Rimmer

Natalie - Zante Park Hotel is probably the best in Laganas, and is far superior to the Victoria. It is less than 5 mins to the beach, and about 15 mins walk to the centre, but plenty to do in the local area. Hotel has good pool and entertainment, and is part of the 'Best Western' group so good quality is guaranteed!!

I am flying out to Zante at the weekend and was due to stay at Victoria hotel until we were told of the outbreak of legionnaires disease. We have been upgraded to hotel zante park in Laganas which is a ****+ hotel so obviosly this is great but has anyone else been moved there and what is it like?

Rimmer

I live on Zakynthos, and this is the latest as far as i know. The hotel will be closed throughout July whilst being inspected and cleaned ny health officials. Reports of Legionnaires Disease are as yet unconfirmed, but there is/was some type of virus in the hotel. If you have booked this hotel with JMC or Airtours or another company, then they are legally bound to keep you informed of the situation. They should offer you a refund of all money, or a transfer to another hotel of the same or higher standard, free of charge, and should offer compensation if you have to change resort, or move to a hotel with less facilities (eg. no pool). As usual in these cases, a lot of what we hear is just rumours, but your tour company should know more details than anyone else. Hope this helps.

Emma

I am due to fly out and stay at the hotel on 19 july. After seeing the problem here, I have been on the phone all morning to JMC and Thomas cook. At first they said there was no problem but I insisted there was.Finaly they have given us a room at the Astir palace hotel. They sill say the LD is unconfermed.

Colin R

We are also due to fly out on 22 July. We have been in touch with our travel agents who have advised that all holidaymakers due to fly out up to and including 15 July have been given alternative accomodation (or a full refund) and should be informed by letter. It does not look good! More information is posted on holidaytruths.co.uk and look in "holiday truth forums" under Misc/rumours, and Legionaires Disease. Cheers Colin colin.t.richardson@btinternet.com

Myself and five friends are flying out to Laganas on the 22 July 01. We are booked into the Victoria Hotel but having read the reports below I am concerned about the outbreak of Legionnaires disease. Does anyone know what is being done ? Or even better does anyone know when the hotel will re-open. Any suggestions/recommendations for other hotels might be useful also. Thanks.

Emma

I am suppost to be staying at the hotel in three weeks. Any ideas when it will re-open?

We've just returned home from Zante today. We were originally booked into the Hotel Victoria and arrived there last Thursday (21st). First impressions of the hotel were how dirty it was, there was thick dust on the furniture in the bedroom, and some blue coloured thing(!) growing on the loo. We were awoken at 11:45 pm to be told we would be moving in the morning due to the Legionnaires problem. We were moved by JMC to the Hotel Petros in Tsivili. It's a brand new hotel, only opened in May. Our room was very clean and the staff extremely friendly. We have had a brilliant week, which we know we wouldn't have had in Laganas. Whoever thinks the Victoria is in a Quiet location must be deaf to all the Karaoke bars that go on till midnight, and then after if the Police aren't about. One good thing about Laganas was Rumours Bar - we had albeit one, excellent night there. Hi to Jamie who is at the Petros - you'll remember us we were still in the pool last night with you until midnight. JMC should drop the Victoria with immediate effect and get the Hotel Petros in the brochure before the Germans snap it up! Mike & Seri PS, Jamie if you read this before you get home say hi to Stefanos for us - cheers.

It is the Biggest shame that Victoria has Legionniares disease. We got told on Thursday (21st June 2001) morning that we had to move hotels. Airtours were one of the first tour operators to move out. Just to Answers the questions below - The rooms were quite small unless you are a family then they are big enough for 4 people. They are clean and the showers have a basin and some have a curtain - which compared to our replacement hotel Epseria, that is good going. The bar staff are friendly. I never saw anyone called Charlie and there was no pool entertainment, that may come later on in the year (if it re-opens this year, Airtours are not renewing their contract this year!) Although I didn't like the breakfast it is miles better that anywhere else, at least you get Kellogs Corn Flakes, Water Melon, Ham and Cheese and Breadroll, you can have as much as you want and the waiter is friendly. I though Victoria was average until I stayed at Esperia. The best English Breakfast is at Robin Hood (next to Epseria) and Bonanzza (if that is spelt right). <<<<<<<<<<< Colin Richardson >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Alexander Apartments - Sorry fella, I don't know where they are. I leave tomorrow, but If I find out, which I will try, I will let you know. The Best thing to do, is ask the travel agents, when I went, they had a location plan of the whole Lagana resort and location of Hotels! That might help! I mentioned above about Charlie. Pubs for kids 8-14? Cocktails and Dreams and Pink Panther was liked by a friends 2 daughters (ages 12 & 14) Most of pubs aren't too bad, Rescue and Zerros are no go's for kids. I leave tomorrow - I will place more comments and answer questions when I get home. Hope my comments have helped people JustZante.co.uk is the best thing since slided bread!

Warren M

we are due in Laganas at this hotel tomorrow morning (27th June) but received a letter this morning 26th telling us that due to health and safety reasons our holiday is to be changed - surely they knew before today!! - as your previous comments have stated - they have know since AT LEAST last weekend - luckily we have eventually been offered another hotel in Laganas, not with a pool though!! this was after a hotel in Argassi being offered - which we refused a strong letter of complaint shall be written on our return depending on the state of our hotel and the service we receive from the reps whilst in Zante.

James W

We arrived in Zante on Sunday 24th June having booked in to the Victoria Hotel in Laganas through JMC :-( on arrival at the airport we were told by the JMC rep that there was legionaires disease at the Victoria Hotel and we would be staying at Hotel Petros in Tsilivi. This was a major disappointment to us as we really wanted to be in Laganas. The rep told us that they only found out about the problem early hours of sunday morning and it was too late to let us know in the uk. Can anyone tell us when the problem was recognised and everyone was moved out of the hotel as we feel as though we are getting one lie after another from JMC. Thanx

me and my boyf stayed at the victoria last year although the rooms aren't massive we had a wicked stay... i wouldn't say it was a place for kids maybe 15+ otherwise they'll be bored... the staff were great esp panos, charlie and the two ukranian bar maids... the cleaners were a bit of a nightmare i don't think they know the meaning of knocking but it's got a nice pool nice bar don't bother getting up for breakfast because it's s**t but then again what do you expect theres a nice place over the road though cheap full english and all that careful of the little lizards though they get everywhere and even though the fridge and a/c are quite expensive they're definatley worth it believe me...one other thing don't put toilet paper in the toilet you have to put it in a little bin at the side it's a hard habit to get out of when ya back in the u.k

Lisa D

Can anyone let me know what the rooms are like at the Victoria? I know they are pretty basic in Greece anyway! Are they clean or small etc? If anyone can let me know before I travel on the 17th July I would be very grateful!

Lisa D

What are the rooms like?? I know they are pretty basic in Greece anyway but are they clean or small?? If anyone can let me know before I travel on 17th July.

Colin R

Matt, can you tell me if this hotel is near the Alexander Apartments? (I believe this is different from the Alexander hotel) Furthermore, are the kids entertained by Charlie? Can you also recommend a good place for English breakfast? Are there any pubs which are suitable for kids, aged between 8-14? Many thanks for your help. Colin

Matt B

I am currently staying at Victoria Hotel and I is OK. The below comments are fair the breakfast isn't worth bothering with at all. The pool is a decent pool with plenty of Sun lounges, clean and quite large. I wouldn't say the staff are the most friendly. The Fridge cost 8000 Dch (16 quid about) and the Air Conditioning cost 21000 (42 quid) for the 2 weeks. It is a really good location right on the main street but it is also the quietest section of the main street. The Hotel bar is OK, good to start the night or to end the night, but not an all nighter. Any questions please ask while I am here, I am here until the 28th June 2001.

Rimmer

Philip - Victoria Hotel does keep some rooms for direct bookings, but this will work out very expensive for you. Your best bet is to book via a tour operator. Any travel agent will be able to help you do this.

Phillip D

do the Victoria take bookings direct from the UK ? or do you have to use atravel agent ? phillip.daw@ntlworld.com

This is probberbly the best Hotel in Laganas. The staff are freindly and help full Andonis at the snack bar and Pannos the head Bar person. The entertainer there last year was brilliant (Charlie)but im not sure if he's back this year. Its quiet clean has a great pool and loverly food i spent many a lazy day here last summer

Colin R

Can anyone tell me if this Hotel is suitable for families, is it clean and friendly? There is a party of 15 of us including kids from 8-16 holidaying for 2 weeks from 24 July.We like a variety of bars, from very lively to karaoke and cocktail bars. The kids also enjoy this type of entertainment. We have visited Benidorm, Magaluf and Torremolinos over the last few years and enjoy a good beach and nighlife. Any info would be appreciated.

Tasha B

great hotel, nice spot on the main strip, i stayed there for 2 weeks in august - only thing is the ham and cheese breakfasts aren`t too special, no matter no one gets out of bed for it anyway. and yes there is there is entertainment, they have a pool entertainer in the day, some northerner called charlie i think, funny g*y guy. hope to see you all next year
