We didn't stay at the Alexander when we were there last week but they looed quite nice when we dropped some people off there.

We stayed at The Canadian round the corner - the security on a night time was a nitemare!!!  We watched one security guard hit a guy cos he wanted to take a girl back to his room and they made others open up their rooms so they could check who was in there!!!!  Like a prison!!!

I'm sure The Alexander is better!

Good stuff, I'd been thinking that.

Myself, my hubby and two year old stayed at Alexander for two weeks in May. It was the start of the season and was fairly quiet. We paid next to nothing for the holiday a year ago so was expecting a shed!! We were pleasently supprised although it was basic never have I been to a hotel where the room has been cleaned and towels changed 14 days out of 14. No complaints there and believe me I'm fussy especially having a toddler I went armed with dettol wipes!! The rooms had air conditioning but we needed blankets it was still a bit chilly on a night in May. It had a good location and the new pool area was spot on, although we used the old pool as our room looked onto it and we had the place to ourselves.

I'm not sure about the comment on rats we never saw any, however we were there when it had just opened for the season perhaps now it is busy they can't cope with it. You have got to try the Canadian resteraunt across the road (near the playground just up from fatso's). Great food at reasonable prices we found it our last week and went no where else, they had king prawns in garlic butter which were to die for.

We hired a car well worth doing found some gorgous beaches but watch the roads the traffice not the problem just the sheer drops and no barriers on the side of the roads and god are they windy. I had my heart in my mouth a few times!!

Can't comment on the clubs as being with child but they looked trendy and can imagine place is buzzing in height of season.

Anyway don't worry too much about the hotel it is ok, have a great holiday just watch for the airport on the way home, it is an experience.....I will say no more!!!!

Not been to alexander apts yet, but there are a group of 14 geordie lads are going for the first two weeks of august. These reviews sound terrible.... we'll be thrown out on the first night!!!

Hotel sounds really bad, was looking forward to it but not anymore!  I didnt think it would be as bad as that, cant stand rats and there better not be any used condoms in my bed!!  What are the ages of the people were staying in the hotel?  Was it a younger crowd/families?  There are 10 of us heading out on the 11th August for 2 weeks!

We went out on 2nd June 2005 and stayed at the Alexander, There were 19 of us of mixed ages from 9 months to 76 years. The occasion as well as our holiday was to celebrate our sons wedding, which took place at the smaller resort of Tsilivi on June 6th. We decided to stay in Laganas because we like things to do. The Alexander certainly fitted into that category. It was very clean with maid service every day. The staff were very friendly, and Mike the hotel entertainer was real fun and friendly to us all.  The 3 pools were really good the main one having only been built for the 2005 season. The bar stayed open until 7am. Breakfast was to be had up in the roof garden and although was only a typical greek continental breakfast was really very nice. We had a great time.

 just got back from here 17/6/05 really good for young people the bar is open till 7 in the morning for a drink when you come in from the clubs. The new pool out the back is gorgeous aswell. The rooms are always kept clean and the staff are really friendly.

supposed to be a mixed hotel of family and younger groups just back 5/6/05 to 20/6/05 non stop noise from 1200 to 0500 each day if not fighting between residents THIS is NOT a family hotel brilliant for younger folk who want to party definately not for people wanting tourist highlife but quiet nights

just got back from  a weeks hol at the alexander. had a fantastic time, so gutted to be back. it was the best hol i have ever had in my life the staff at the hotel are great and a couple are really cute too. watch out for mike tho!!!! the clubs are great and open till all hours, check out cocktails and dreams and fatsoes for brekkie!!!!!

Just got back from Zante this mornin! Im gutted 2 b back.  It was the best holiday ever.  The Alexander hotel is fantastic wud recommend it 2 any1!  If you like to party then check out the main strip especially cocktails and dreams and zeros!  Liked it that much booking again 4 August.  The drinks are really cheap everywhere just make sure you get loadsa free shots, especially of ouzo, it will blow your head off!!

Coming to the Alexander Apartments for the first two weeks in August with 4 friends....California Kev, Robbie "The Clamp" Williams, Spudders and The Roid. We booked this hotel cause it was pretty much the cheapest and the only one still available, did book in February thou and was struggling to find a place to stay so hopefully this means its gonna be mad busy. I dont kno anything about zante except what i've read so anyone with any hints, tricks or tips on making the most outta the place i wouldnt mind hearing them.x.

Alexander is absoultley brilliant, three pools to pick from.  Hotel and bar staff very friendly especially Denise and Van!!  Entainment (Alexander Mike) was great still do not understand how he can crush glasss with his bare feet!  Drinks very resonanle especially happy hour which is only on cocktails from 9-10.  Location is good as it is just off the main strip off pubs so it is easy to get too.  Very clean as your room gets cleaned every day.  I would recommend Alexandra hotel to anyone!

We just came back from Zante staying only one week there in alex and we had a great time . i dont understand PETER BOSHNICS  comments about this place as far as i can remember they didnt serve food at the alex only snacks  that means burgers and toasts and the breakfast was continental. as far as the building construction there wasnt any only  acrooss the street in another place diferent from the alex. And how come you change hotel after all the hotel only opened for the season on sunday 1 of May and you are back in england on the 4th  dont tell me you change hotels for 4 days of stay ????? you must be one of those super moaners who hate the word good time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just come back from zante for a cheap pre summer holiday and we were disgusted at the state of this hotel.  what can only be described as rat s**t littered the walk ways around pool and hotel, these people have a serious hygeine and litter problem.  there was construction work going on the hotel grounds and near by, the workers were working during the night obviously trying to get it finished before the seasons starts, and it looks like they have a long long way to go, but hey, im no builder.   the food provided by the hotel was often cold and after a few days we had to move hotels to a near by hotel victoria,

Im leaving at the end of July to stay in this hotel with a few friends can anyone tell us how far the walking distance is from the hotel to the bars and clubs please.

my and my boyfriend stayed here last year at the end of august. We loved it so mcuh we're staying here again on the 26th august until the 10th september and i cant wait. The hotel was clean and staff were friendly. Bar staff handed out free shots at end of night. Pool area was ok but we spent most of time at beach as pool was abit crowded. I went here the first two weeks of Oct 2004 with my fiance and 2 year old daughter. I had read all the reports (after I had booked stupidly) and was dreading it.
To be quite honest I really didn't think it was all that bad. Our room was clean, the maids came in every day to change the bin and clean floors and although you only get the sheets and towels changed every two or three days if they are grubby you just have to leave them in a pile at the end of the bed and the maids are quick to change them.
We had planned to pay extra for the air conditioning and fridge but didn't bother with either. I think they are about 20euros a week or so. It might have been because it was oct but out room was freezing at night and we really needed the cosy blankets provided. As for the fridge my fiance managed to open it without the key so we could have used it for free but it was a bit mouldy (probably due to them locking the door shut) so there was no chance I was putting anything in there.
I meant to add our room had paper thin walls and you really do hear everything. We weren't too bad because we were on the 2nd floor and had an end room but I did pity the people who had rooms anywhere near reception on the 1st floor, they would be woken by everyone passing for their brekkie.....which by the way was ample, bread, cheese, ham, boiled eggs, cereal, juice etc.

We mainly headed for the beach every day as I found the pool area a bit dangerous for my little one, too many tiles to slip on! and the pool was the coldest thing I have ever been in. It seemed to be in the shade almost all day which didn't help. It seemed clean enough though. The pool side bar had nice food and drink and was okay price-wise.

As for laganas it was still lively in oct but I can imagine it is more for the younger party animals in the height of summer, it was good for us as a young couple with a family because we could take her out with us at night but I don't think we could have done it if it was july or aug. There are loads of places to eat and everyone tries literally to drag you in, you really just have to be firm! The same goes for the people selling boat tours. We did go on the big boat tour round the island and it was good, a long day for young children though.

All in all we had a good holiday, we had a two rainy days and there is little to do unless the sun is out but it is a nice place to be.
As for the Alexander Apts, we went out every night to eat and sit in other bars but it seemed very lively at night in the hotel and if you are in to hanging about the hotel and doing pub quizes/karaoke then you won't be let down. I guess you really get what you pay for.

Stayed hear in september 2004 and the location was great but didnt think much to the hotel it self.In the holiday book it looks really
moden and clean but the rooms are very basic and very dull.We had a really bad view from our room which was facing the entrance behind all the trees and in the trees was 2 really big wasp nest so my little boy couldnt go on the verander,we reported it to the reps but they are just not bothered,there never really their.
Manager is lovely carnt think of his name,but the staff are great.Pools are really clean and the gym is quite good my partner says.

stayed here for 2 weeks, came back 11th oct, rooms very basic no kettle for the whole time there, asked rep on 1st day. wouldnt recommend this hotel to ppl with children, according to the rep best hotel on the island!!!!
could give you a list as long as your arm as to where to eat. weather excellent, ppl freindly, beach great,. if you want to hire a car go to denises car hire, best place for a friendly drink is 4play. sunday lunch 8euro's in captain morgans excellent mmmmmm

The Alexander Hotel is the best ever. the rooms were very basic but the rest is fantastic. The staff at the hotel were fab. We would deffinatly go back there again. A big thank you to the bar staff, especially Van you kept us entertained. Also a really big thank you to our reps at the hotel which were Ben and Emma you were both great. The best reps ever are Ben, Jamie and Matt you made our holiday a right laugh. I recommend this hotel to everyone especially lively people. Good luck to Ben and Emma in Ibiza and Jamie and Matt in Tenerife!

I visited the Alexander in July and had the best holiday ever. That good in fact that I retuned 4 weeks later. It's somewhere to sleep and yeah the rooms are basic but for what your paying they are good value. The staff and the atmosphere make this hotel, and if you like a laugh, a drink and a great time then this is the place for you. I'm a beach person so cant comment on the pool except it looked good and the food at the pool bar was good. Slush Puppies, what more do you want? Van and co, thanks for looking after me. It was a very nice hotel the rooms were basic i was a bit afraid of the showers in the rooms because there were no shower curtains because the Greeks don't believe in shower curtains.It was fairly quiet at night (this was in September).The breakfast in the hotel was alright.Every week there is Greek dancing.It was Brilliant!!!The pool is quite nice for all ages.

Hi,i got back on the 26th of August and it was the best holiday i've had.I met the Elsie and Linda the kamalaki girls lol.They were the two scousers who started drinking at 12 o clock every morning ha ha.

Alex and Vangueleis were great behind the bar and were always handing out the free shots.And Sylvia was a great woman.

We had no problems. Just got back and the hotel is basic but the rooms were cleaned daily, the noise was kept down by the security guard. It may not be the sort of hotel for a family but the atmosphere is great and the staff are all friendly. Pool was OK but we just went to the Candadian Hotel round corner and used their pool which was much nicer. Best holiday Ive had in a long time. Well recommended

Yes, we met the Kalamaki la la la women. ( Elsie and Linda) They really brightened up the place. Just like to add that these apartments are really for young people looking for a good time and not 'for couples and families' as stated in the brochure. Also, if you want a real taste of Greece, go to a different island as Zante is more like Blackpool with the sun.

I read this website before I went and I was so confused by the mixed reports. Well I got back yesterday and had a great time at the Alexander. You get what you pay for. The rooms were basic but clean and the cleaners were friendly. It was quite noisy at times but never that bad at all (although I do sleep like a log!). I never saw any rats and I thought that the pool was clean and everything had a good atmosphere. The bar staff were good fun and I enjoyed the Greek dancing. Well done to the reps too, Ben and Helen rock. Have fun there!

we went at the end of July and we thought it was terrible, the rooms were very basic and we had 4 beds squashed in one room, we also had to cook in the same room,when i say cook i mean heat something up because you could not cook anything on 2 little rings with no space to put anything. we had to pay extra for the noisy air con, the shower trickled out, the rim around the pool was a good breeding ground for bacteria, the roof top bar was closed for the fortnight as was the tennis court and we never even found the sauna.
The hotel drive was used as a racing track for the quad bikes every night from 2.00am onwards,then the football match started in the corridors at 5.00am finally the kicking on the doors before they finally went to bed at 6.00am.
the Sunset brochure advertises it as a good choice for families and couples yet they send groups of young people there as well as families. If you are aged 18 - 30 then you will love it but if you aren't then stay away. Go to Crete instead

Basically, the noise level is unbearable. any time day and night!! The rooms are so old and in need of some TLC. The pool area is crowded and dirty! Air con, fridge etc are all extra charges. The lough area has about four sofa's for the entire hotel, which when your on a noght flaight is not ideal! We wont be going backnad dont advise anyone to stay there!!

Us girlies love our Rock music and R&B, I know that there are hundreds of bars and clubs etc, but where is the ULTIMATE place to visit! Only 7 weeks to go! Can't wait!! ...... see you out there!

We saw no rats!! we went 1st week in July had amazing time! would definitely go again. hotel is pretty big and not too far from night life, I'd recommend it more for young party people than families due to noise. we found the hotel very clean and staff were very helpful and friendly. double thumbs up

We got back from the Alexander appartments on the 15th July, and we had a great time. Yes, the appartments were a bit basic and it's quite noisy, but what do you expect???

The reps (Ben and Helen)were really nice and helpful, and I would definitely reccomend going on the organised nights out, especially if there is only a few of you, as it is a good way of getting to know everyone else and the best places to go.

me and my husband just got back from a week in the alex hotel, the hotel is very basic and the breakfast is ham and cheese on toast or cold boiled eggs which was awfull, we were on our honeymoon so we didnt have our 4 kids with us but i would definatly say this hotel is NOT for kids or familys i would not take my kids there. but we had a good time and laganas is excellent,there are lots of kid friendly hotels in laganas but this isnt one of them more like an 18-30s hotel

i just come home from the alexander apartments i must say the apartments are very clean the cleaners come in every day the apartments are very basic but there alrite as ur only gona b sleepin in them. if ur the sort of person who is loud wen u've ad a few drinks then i wouldnt recommend for you to stay here as me and my friends got complained about nearly every night while we were stayin here and got chased around the hotel by the night security guard so if you are stayin in these apartments look out for the man with the torch any bit of noise you make he will b there straight away and i mean straight away. The reps are lovely make sure you go on the bar crawl its excellent and look out for a rep called jamie his lovely.

i would just like to add that there are not a lot of rats runnin around the hotel. i did see one but that was in a grassy area, but the hotel can be in no way held responsible for this. zante is a rat island! most of the snakes are killed quite young and they would eat the rats normally, so the zante council(or whatever it is) put rat poison, which cats eat and they die but the rats are too smart to eat it.

i managed to except this even though i have a huge phobia of rats and when i did see one it left me shaking for hours!

so if any idiot calls this hotel a s**t hole, i suggest next time you try and get a self catering hoilday in the hilton for £370 for two weeks.

Got back on Fri 9/07/04! We had an absoloutley wonderful time at these apartments! The Bar was big and the staff were very friendly! Alex even give me a few free drinks when I was goin home and he realised I had ran out of Euro's! The pool's are very clean! They r even buildin a new one! Rooms are a bit basic but very clean! Maids came every day! Entertainment staff were very nice as well, Melanie is fun she is still there now, but Simona as now left! We even went out with them a few times and had a great laugh! All in all a great holiday! I would go back!

Maids came every day! Entertainment staff were very nice as well, Melanie is fun she is still there now, but Simona as now left! We even went out with them a few times and had a great laugh! All in all a great holiday! I would go back!

hi!im just wondering if alexander hotel is good.I've looked at all the comments and some seem like the hotel is terrible.I believe the thing about the noise but someone said tht it quietenss a little bit in september rund about then as i've got 2 children coming with me on the 19th september 2004.Im looking forward to going but its just some of the comments i've heard.Please tell me if anyone has been by adding me shona_archer44@yahoo.com thank you.

I thought it was absolutly great and i would go back there again.The quietness wasen't so good but it quietinss down round about the start of september.I would recommend it to anyone.It's great.

Just got back,had a wicked time at the alex. Two pools all very clean and a good bar with sky sports and tunes and all that. Our room was really clean and had a great balcony also colour tv and fridge. breakfast was not worth getting up for though. You get bread and a toaster and cheese and ham slices and some other stuff i didn't even bother trying.Great location and friendly staff. I will definatly go back. Just a shame about the noise at the evenings but i wasn't that bothered. Don't fear the bad reports. If you get a room like mine you will be happy.

hey just got back today i stayed here it was abdsoloutly awesome ive never had such a good time the reps ben and helen are absoloutly brilliant even if ben did think we were posh cos we came from cambs if you stay here watch out for the girl on receptiion she is the most miserable person i know over all i had the best time and i want to go back

Stayed at this hotel at the beginning of June and was slightly worried by the mixed reports I had read about the place. But when I got there it was fine. Compared to the usual greek standards this place was quite good. I can't speak for other peoples rooms, but the two we had were clean and had modern furniture. You also get a TV, (greek daytime tv is even cheesier than ours!) The bar had entertainment every night and the bar staff Vangelis and Alex are great and join in the fun. Also the atmosphere at the place is great and soon made friends with loads of people that were staying there at the same time. They too had no complaints. The main pool area is clean with music playing and theres a quiter one if you fancy relaxing. The only problem I had with the hotel was with the sprawling corridors, It took a few days to remember the route to the room but thats not a real problem is it. With people reporting on here about rats and the place being filthy, I can only come to the conclusion that they were staying in a different place or I was walking round with my eyes closed for a week.

We should have also a vote for CUSTOMERS FROM HELL Mr. Paul you would be the winner!!!!!!! The Hotel is really not this bad as this mr. wrote. It is standart what u will find there. You are close to the mainstrip of laganas and u can have drinks food and a laugh in this hotel. U always get what u paid for. But there always some british moaner what we really don't need for despoiling our holidays.

zante was good ,but if u are staying at the alexander hotel GET UR MONEY BACK AND GO TO BLACKPOOL . To say its a S**t hole would be polite it was a complete dump all of us where really ill for a week,and the children where sick of counting rats whilst sitting on the verander. We later found out that this LOVELY hotel apeared on hollidays from hell need i say anymore.

I stayed in this place for 2 weeks at end of May. It was ok, rooms very basic but the maids cleaned the rooms every day. The only thing that put me off was the noise at night, but as Debbie said it is for young singles and families. I would go back to laganas with the girls rather than a fella. Just wanted to say a big HI to Debbie, hows Greg and Emma? Debbie was a great laugh and we did meet up with some good people and had a good time overall. For the money you pay - what do you expect? The flights home at 5.55am were an absolute nightmare and i would not go back if it was a nightime flight. If you are going this year make sure you visit Olympia - great day out, gets you in the mood for the Olympics. Dont do the island tour by boat as its far too long a day. If you visit the shipwreck beware of the freezing cold water, but the scenary is amazing. Enjoy!!

Children are free minded not as closed as you are. Maybe u have never been a child!!! Next point Parents Don't care about theyr children but the Hotel is not the problem is just a class problem

If you want a restful holiday I surgest you do not book into the Alexander Hotel. Parents getting drunk at the hotel bar every night, leaving chilren to run up and down corridors screaming and shouting playing football and knoking on doors. This goes on until the early hours of the morning so you do not get any sleep. Then people stagger back to there rooms shouting and swearing so if you have managed to doze off you are woken up again. Two fights also while we where there. Any way we moved to the Poseidon Beach Hotel after a week of this tourture what a differance children also in this hotel but no noise at night I wonder why?

We spent the first week of June 2004 at the Alexander Hotel after a night flight from the East Midlands Airport in the UK.

We had a fabulous time but we would not recommend a night flight, it takes too long to recover.

Expect a lot of noise - people are enjoying themselves.

Next time we will go self catering as we never got up for breakfast.

hello matt how you doing fella , i worked at the alexander last year and had a wicked time both hotels have very good pools and bars the canadian gets more youth in at around this time than the alexander, they are about 1 min away from each other so you can go to both very easly all the bar crawls and partys we do are together with all the sunset hotels we have the reps in the alexander are helen and ben who are so sound so im sure its going to be a blast.. see you soon mate

I stayed there in july 2002 with 5 of my mates and had the time of my life!!. The first night we were there we made really good friends with all the bar staff particularly vangelis who is a top bloke!!. We must of necked about 20-30 smirnoff ice on the first night and then van and co made a huge pyramid out of all the empty bottles on the bar, then cryed with laughter as they all toppled over and smashed everywhere!. We then had the bright idea of purchasing plastic pellet guns and setting up a tin can ally in our room and randomly shooting each other to our drunken delight, there must of been about 50 odd pellet holes in our room wall!. Zante bar strip was top notch and people were very friendly too. After our two week stay van and co actually came to the airport to see us off, i had a lump in my throat as we said goodbye. Wicked hotel, Wicked holiday what more can i say. I love zante!!!!!!!!!!!!

Laganas was brilliant I had the best holiday ever. Alexander is smack bang in the middle of all the clubs and bars, you cannot go wrong with this resort. The barmen are great, it's true! The good lookin' one was with different girls every night. Everyone at the hotel is very welcoming and the bar is open until the early hours! Wicked. Going back next month!

i would just like to say that i have stayed in the hotel alexander for the past 2 summers and they were the 2 best holidays of my life,the first year i met my fiance there and the next year we went back together, vangelis the barman is such a top guy we became good friends with him and our second time there he took us out to different parts of the island on a tour, i can honestly say that laganas changed my life, the hotel was clean, friendly and in a great location for the strip, if you go this year make sure you check out cocktails and dreams!! i will be going back there very soon

About to book a week on 2nd Sept 2004. Looking for somewhere near enough to the clubs to stagger back, doesnt have to be great as long as the pool is lively and the rooms have beds!!

me and my family have jest came back from 2 week at the alexander hotel it was the best holiday i have had in a long time we read the reports on the net before we when and it was not like we read we was inspecting it to be a right dump but it was not.yes the rooms were basic but very clean with maids caming into clean every day the staff were very friendly and excellent with kids we injoyed it that much we have booked to go back next june the rep in the hotel is excellent then there is van we think he was excellent yes he is a bit of a ladies man but wouldn't you be if you done his job i would see you next june van mark and familey

Me and my boyfriend have just spent two weeks in Laganas in the Alexander Apartments and had a brilliant time. I had read the comments on this site before l went and was really dreading it, but ended up having a great holiday. You are located in a brilliant area were there is plenty of little bars and places to eat, then just a little walk down the road and you are onto the main strip which has very good nightlife. The hotel is basis but really very clean, the maids would come in everyday and clean and mop. depending om which room your in it could be a little noisy at night but we were on the second floor a couldnt hear a thing. The breakfast isant that bad either. The pool and pool area is really clean and all the staff are really nice and there is some good entertainment on a night within the hotel. You'll deffinatley enjoy your stay here.

Hi everyone, i am going to these apartments next week, and if i get any pictures i will post them onto website. However, i have friends who are in Zante at moment and they took a drive down today to see the apartments and they said they were really nice and clean looking. To be honest, you are not paying an arm and a leg to stay here, so what do people expect - go to the Hilton next time if you are that fussy!!

It is very noisey. The bar within the hotel is open till 5am - which plays very loud music. Within the apartments, you can hear the young adults roaming the place until the early hours of the morning. Although I went in August and September and found that it was alot quieter in September (I suppose because they have all gone back to college!). Good Luck Dave with your holiday plans.

Hi Cathy & Louise, sorry to butt in i was just reading your messages about Van. I think your right dont bother with him... he a lovely guy if you are friends with him but hes just like the rest, don't fall for him.

I had an experience with the barman. I came out to Zante 3 years in a row for him, I knew there were other girls but he was fun. Word of warning, he is trying to get himself a Visa out of there! But no hard feelings, as he is a good person.

If you are thinking of going to the hotel Alexander - THINK AGAIN!!! It is HELL!!! We booked with JMC expecting a nice 2 WEEK holiday and it was the worst hotel i have ever been to in my life! When we arrived at the hotel everything seemed fine. But don't be fooled. The first thing I noticed was a brick and a half empty bottle of vodka left on the stairs all the time I was there. Then at night we heard the horrible noise from surrounding night clubs - wrecked men and women spewing up everywhere - screaming. After that every night at 2am we heard a WOMEN from the floor above urinating off the balcony above us. The food there - well what can i say - i wouldn't feed it to my dog! After all this happened we decided to see the JMC rep. All I can say is. WHAT REP?? We didn't see any site of one for 3 days. Just molded half eaten sandwiches they left there for everyone to see. So we decided to walk to the JMC tourist place which a scottish man told us about who worked in a bar near by. There we actually saw a JMC rep and he moved us to a different hotel!!! But when we came out with our suitcases we got surrounded by receptionists asking us where we were going and the manager was waiting outside. We had to run into a taxi to get away!!! The place is a disaster, don't ever think of going. Also the airport is about as big as my garden shed with one man offloading and loading suitcases from every flight. If anyone wants to see half eaten sandwiches photos or half drunk vodka bottles. Send me a message and I will send them!!!

I read the comments before I went and was dreading this holiday. When we arrived the rooms were basic but clean along with the rest of the hotel. But what would you expect from a 2* hotel?? I had an excellent time here and all the staff were friendly. I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone.

This was my first visit to Greece and i heard the hotel was a bit of a nightmare. When we arrived the staff we all friendly and happy to help you. The rooms we're basic but very clean. The nightlife was brill i had a great holiday! Would certainly go back.

just come back from laganas with my boyfriend on monday. had a realy good time.i think it was only a 2 star hotel.wot were people expecting? the f**king hilton??? there was a thunder storm on the nite we arrived and flooded the hotel. as u would expect with most brit tourists, there was lots of whinging and people demanding to see the manager(was he going to somehow stop the rain???).the saddos soon cheered up when free drinks were offered. the hotel staff were up all nite trying to sort the hotel out, and by the morning you couldnt really tell wot had happened the nite before. the only thing that pissed me off was the pop idol reject tour in the room below!!!

We wanted flight only because we planned to see the whole of the island and find our own accommodation as we went. It wasn't much dearer to get accommodation at the Alexander thrown in with the flight so that's what we did, and we decided to take our chances and spend a couple of nights there. Rooms not great, the place was rather noisy, breakfast reasonable. Pointless staying half board, there's hundreds of places to eat cheaply. I'm sure there's better places to stay in Laganas. If you're going out of season find somewhere to stay when you get there (in Alikes! Vasilikos is good if you want quiet). Don't use the pool, there's plenty of other hotels with less busy, better pools that they let you use for nothing, just buy a few drinks there and they'll be happy.

Myself and my mates stayed at the Alex. We had the best holiday ever!!! The hotel was basic but met all our needs. I do not think the Alex is suitable for young families, as it can be noisy and people do make a lot of noise when returning from a mad night out. For all you young people out there who have not been to Zante, GET OUT THERE. It is wicked!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Having returned just over a week ago from a week's holiday at the Alexander (booked at the last minute) I felt I had to comment after reading the most recent comments. The hotel is nothing like they describe! Yes it's big, the bar is noisy at night, but me and my friends had rooms at separate ends of the hotel and they were both clean, linen/towels changed at least once. Never saw (or smelled) a rat, the staff were friendly, never badly disturbed at night. The beach was excellent for children (shallow, clear water), pool good, hotel in a good location away from the main noisy strip. You get what you pay for! Whilst I wouldn't rush to go there again it was definitely a good holiday.

I stayed at the Alexander Apartments with my boyfriend for 2 weeks in July 2003, I was worried before I went after reading some very negative comments about them but I was pleasantly surprised. The rooms were cleaned daily and the sheets changed a couple of times a week. The pools were lovely and the pool-side bar served good food at reasonable prices. The only thing that I'd say is true in all the negative comments is the noise, it is quite noisy at night with poeple coming home late and drunk and banging on doors etc. but at the end of the day that's not really the hotels fault! So if you've booked to stay here and are worried it really isn't that bad!I would stay at the Alexander again if I go back to Zante as I had a brilliant holiday!!

I have been going abroad for 25 years and this is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in my life.The hotel is filthy,our room was filthy,their is RATS running about the garden,the staff are nice but couldn't care less.The owner Costas changed the lock on our room and would not let us back in untill we paid 300 euros because of a dent on our door which was there When we arrived.Thankfully the Sunset Reps sorted it out.This is not a family hotel My advice is DO NOT GO THERE it spoiled our holiday and will spoil yours too.

This place is the absolute bowels of hell.We booked a last minute deal at this hell-hole for the first week in August 2003.Although it is in a good location,it is filthy.On arrival in our room we checked the bedding and towels(as we always do)and found the most horrendous stains that included blood.If this dump ever gets cleaned it will come up a different colour.JMC advertise this place as ideal for families,well it probably is if you are the Osbournes or the Beverly Hillbillies.Non stop music blasting from the pool area from 10am to 7.30pm,then the main bar takes over and blasts music out until 3 or 4 in the morning,for good measure the bar staff blow whistles every two minutes,we still have'nt worked out if this is their way of communicating with civilised people.JMC also neglect to inform you that not all rooms have air conditioning,but hey,you can hire a fan from reception.We did and it quacked like a duck all day and all night.Just in case you do manage to fall asleep,you then get woken up by all the lager louts coming back at 4 and 5 in the morning,shouting,swearing,spewing up and throwing beer bottles up and down the corridors outside your room.If the neaderthals have been lucky enough to pull on a particular night,you will also be treated to a graphic description of what sexual activities they are going to perform on each other once in bed.You have probably heard of the TV programme,Im a celebrity get me out of here,well we were holiday makers and we did get out of there,we moved to the Zante Park for the rest of our stay and it was paradise.Two and a half days we survived the Alexander torture and we still have not received our reward from JMC.If you are a family and have worked all year to save up and pay for your holiday do not go here.Imagine it as a leper colony and you wont be far off the mark.If you are a neanderthal,please go it will be the closest you come to your own people for the rest of your lives,unless of course,you go back again.It is undestandable that neanderthals dont need towels due to the fact that they dont get washed.However,we do and after two and a half days our towels had not been changed once.Beleive me this craphole is not just the boil on the bum of Zante,it is also the puss weeping out.

we've just returned from a week of hell at these apartments.if you have a family, don't stay in room 104-we did,and it was awful- you are right beside the lift, which goes up&down all night long-and i really do mean all night,also banging doors all night, unsup**vised kids running along the corridors at all times.very noisy,and not suitable for "early nighters" the bar directly across from these apartments served my 6 year old daughter with raw chicken dippers, so be careful what you eat.we also all had bad stomachs when we were there-may have been the pool,who knows?

Hotel Alexander is greta. Went last year and would go back. Just wanted to warn you anbout Eurosky Renatls. The ons that are adverstised on this page. Don't use them!! They rip you off. Charged us money for damaging a bike when we didn't do anything. Lady who owns it became very nasty and abusive towards me and my boyfriend. Use jims instead.

I have never been so scared in my life to go on a holiday as I was to go to Zante. My friends and I had booked it in a hurry and I was very worried about the conditions of the hotel and the place after reading all the negative comments. Last week I came back from what was one of the most memorable amazing holidays ever. The hotel was fine, basic but clean and for the money what do you expect anyway! The maids came every day etc and it was fine, didn't use the hotel pool however, preferred the beach which was a minute away. Don't worry if you are going, just look forward to it!

I went to Hotel Alexander for two weeks at the end of May this year, and enjoyed it so much I am hoping to get a late deal and go again soon. Our room was exceptionally clean, as was the rest of the hotel. The only problem for me was all the brits complaining over nothing. Ok, the hotel isn't four star, but it doesn't claim to be and is great compared to others Ive been to.
The staff were very friendly, infact Im still in touch with most of them (who speak great English, if you don't patronise them.) Infact when I was there all the staff seemed to get was bad behaviour from loutish brits.
The pools were lovely, especially the more secluded one, and if the bottom bar was too loud then there was always the roof garden bar, which was quiet and relaxing.
The only problems we had with noise was children on the stairs at night, however this wouldnt have been a problem if the parents hadn't left them in the hotel alone all night.
Anyway, we had a wonderfull time there as Im sure many others have, and will be returning soon.

Good location, near bars restaurants etc Not too far to beach. Basic room, no choice of air con, clean rooms apart from the towels which they dont change till about the 5th day! staff not v friendly, dont understand english too well. People allowed to play music well loud at about seven in the morning. pool not very inviting and the whole atmosphere wasnt very friendly. go to olympia!!

was very noisy in the mornin, the breakfast was poor n the room was very basic. the staff were not all that welcoming and the pool area was very poor! too many sunbeds and not a nice environment! the area was ok tho and the hotel was relatively clean. the bar area was pretty rubbish dont think ne1 cud spend a nite in there!

I'm 14 and was dreading the state of the hotel as i had been told greece was very unhygenic, but it was fab, it had briliant staff, some very nice looking ones to! The hotel was lovely, the grounds and surroundings areas were beautiful and we werent far away from the beach or anything, i was very pleased with this accommadation and would recommend it to anyone who asked. I hope the staff know how well they are doing a job and they deserve a real big pat on the back. the only problem was that the door to 411 (the room we were staying in) creaked really loudly every time we opened after a thunderstorm in the last week, but apart from that it was brilliant!

I just have to say that I got back from my holiday in Zante last friday, and it was brilliant. I was checking this website often, before I went and was feeling depressed about what I was about to find, but it was fine. I certaily know it wasnt as smart as some hotels in Laganas but it was clean (daily maid service- who i felt didnt snoop around my things) and i think the people where friendly. Don't bother eating there as there are more places to eat than there are to club! (all cheap and tasty!) and if you go with sunset holidays your in for a treat as the alexander/sunset rep simon, is so fit! have a good one, cause i can G'tee you will!.

me & my wife & 2 kids stayed here for 2 weeks in june 2003.the best thing about this place were cleaners who kept the place as tidy as they could.it has been extended over the years and seems to have corridors at every turn.our room was small and cramped with 4 single beds in a row.no fridge , no air conditioning and no ironing board .when we emptied the sink basin water came back up through the drain in the floor.probably the worst apts i have stayed in whilst having hols abroad.laganas was great apts very poor.

We stayed at the Alexander for two weeks, from 22-05-03 to 05-06-03.We had a fantastic holiday. The hotel was very clean, the staff were very friendly and helpful, our room was better than we expected, and as quiet as we expected.
All in all, a wonderful time, and we can't wait to go back. Thankyou to all at the Alexander.

we stayed at the alexander hotel for 2 weeks in room 641 and we absolutly loved it.It waz the bestest holiday we've ever been on and would go back there anyday if we could.
The people there were very good to us and everyone else,they were kind,generous and fun.
Alot of people told us alot about the holiday and said it was a nice place and they were wright it sure was.
They provided us with an outstanding day trip on a boat and a brilliant night with the reps. (thank-you for a brill holiday)!

Just come back from a week at the Alexander Hotel (26th May-2nd June'03). We were really worried about going after reading all the negative comments on this website especially as we were going with friends who had a 7 month old baby. On arrival we expected it to be a right dump but it wasn't at all. It was in nice surroundings and was very clean. We were warned that it might take ages to check-in to the hotel, it took us 15 minutes! We must've been really lucky because our room and the room our friends were in was fine and couldn't fault it, they were cleaned out and we were given fresh towels and clean bedding every day. We didn't make it for breakfast every day but the times we did go down for it, we found it was quite adequate.
It wasn't as noisy either as it was made out to be either, we had a couple of early nights and wasn't woken by any noise but, the rooms are quite warm at night though. The bar staff in the hotel were brilliant, really friendly especially Alex. If you have kids (mine are 12 and 9) they'll love it, the pools are really clean and the food at the pool-side snack bar is superb!
The beach is a 10 minute walk, it's enormous and very picturesque!
The bars and retaurants are literarally around the corner from the hotel, you could eat in a different restaurant every night, we ate at Fatso's a lot coz it was all you could eat for 6.95 euros and the menu changed every night.
I couldn't agree more with the person who wrote that a holiday IS what you make it. We had a fantastic time, so don't be too put off with what you read - I'd definately go back again. If I was to make a negative comment it would be about the airport on the return journey, it is tiny, packed and really poorly organised - a queuers paradise.

well all i can say is brill, jus come back from a week an loved it going back soon. the bar staff so friendly had a brill night with them. the food is excellent around the pool. pool is quite cold but not once your in. the entertainment on a night can go on quite loud but we were part of it any way so did not realise how loud it really was. one problem with room that the tap broke, reported and was fixed in matter of minutes. might not be suitable for young children but my uncle had his four year old with him an he never complained did not get up for breakfast but do a cracker at friends or round pool. only thing if u off for a large one is tht music on the main street has to be turned down at 12 u can hardly hear it. recomend g spot next to cosy corner, plenty of free shots an they are alcohic. all in all ten stars hope this helps

I booked my hoilday in june 2001 for £464.00 for three of us.We where so excited to go after waiting 15 months.When we got there we thought this looked o.k but we had to wait for three hours to check in to the hotel.It was very hard to wait three hours as we had a very tired 1 year old with us.We eventully checked in at 18.30 hrs.When we got the keys we found out that we where up on the second floor.I wasn't very please. It was even worse when we got to the room.There wasn't a cot for my son so i went to complain to the manger and he said he didn't know that we needed one.I explained to him that the travel agent knew.We got a cot but they didn't take a bed out so we had three beds and a cot in a room about 12ft by 10ft.The balcony had a bamboo strip across it but my son could lift up so he could of easily fell out.Also we had a leak from the top of the hotel onto our balcony.We couldn,t stay in the room as it smelt of damp.How can I explain the showers.Trying to shower my son was a bloody nightmare.The water was freezing for the 2 weeks we where there.We always went out to eat as the food in the hotel was rubbish.Come to think about we only selpt in the hotel.The noise was shocking people shouting and swearing in the early Hours.We not be going back to this hotel it needs knocking down and rebuilding.I meet a friend that I haven't seen in 15yrs if I never meet up with him Me and my family would of come home early free of charge because there was know where I was paying for a flight.J.M.C should be ashamed of this hotel and take out of the hoilday brochure

i was dreading this hotel after reading other comments and for the price we paid i was quite terrified to go. i paid £464 for a family of 3 for a fortnight. the hotel was basic as they all are in greece but was clean and the maid came in everyday. we were bed and breakfast wich was superb most continental breakfasts are bread and jam, here there was tea, coffe and orange juice unlimited, bread with jam, peaches, cornflakes every morning,alternate mornings there was ham and cheese, boiled eggs, bacon beans and eggs. the entertainment was a bit naff but there are plenty of other venues around. the music goes on for as long as there are people want serving but they do turn it down around 2.30am i only found this out as we were waiting to get picked up to go home so it cant have been that bad as our room was directly above the entertainment area. the local retaurants are excellent make sure you give bolero ago the food was excellent. the pool was quite cold and some people were saying that it was unsafe but they were sitting with beers in front of them and they wanted thir children to be entertained for them whilst consuming large amounts of alcahol, children will slip and hurt themselves if they run around a wet pool, but guess what our son didnt hurt himself once as we sup**vised him. anyway the only thing that we could find wrong with this hotel was the moaning winging british tourists who should have stayed at home with their fish and chips.

I dont know the address of the Alexander either, but I was at the Alexander in the second week of Sept.I am sorry for the poor girl who thinks Van is her boyf but we arrived back at the hotel in the small hours and saw him leaving with different girls on 3 different occasions. hey there, me and my 4 friends got bak frm zante 2wks ago and must admit the alexander apartments aint that bad a place to stay at! i went self catering so cant really comment on the food served but the restraunts round about and on the strip r gr8. at the hotel the only problem i had was our room. it had to accomodate the 4 of us but it was sooo small! for the whole 2wks i slept on a camp out, fold out bed! and the room was far too small for 4 girls to b gettin ready in each nite, especailly wiv the heat! its was sooo hot! the poolside was alrite, jus watch out for those slabs on the ground that u mite trip over! no seriously watch ur kids if u r takin ne. the food at the pool was alrite but i didnt eat much of it, try hot lips bar the food there is amazin! gr8 hangover cures! breakfasts and lunches r gr8! the beach in zante is lovely. go as often as u can and ull get a better tan down there neway! once uve c*m in frm a nite out clubbin sit at the bar at the hotel, me and carol had a gr8 time there! jus get van and scorpio to serve u cocktails and shots and have nicos provide u with the rnb tunes and ull b sorted! say hi to them for me! the adult games at the bar r soo much fun! big up to me and carol for beating the geordie men at the beer drinkin games! haha! and another thing make sure u go on the jmc caberet nite! its sooo much fun! 30 euros and u can drink as much as u want but to warn u its cocktails and shots and there are rules! haha! its gr8 fun jus make sure u last the whole nite like i did! not! haha!, dan, danielle, phil and all the other reps r gr8, say hi to thomas moffat if u meet him, i went to skool wiv him! so woteva u do make sure u make the most of ur holiday! wen ur home ull b wishin u were bak there! have fun! and if panos eva returns to the hotel tell him claire and carol (scottish gals) say hi!

Having read the other report on this hotel we were dreading our 2 weeks. But in the end we were pleasantly surprised. The Alexander contains hotel and apartments and is big and sprawly (over 700 rooms). It has obviously been adapted and added to over a number of years so that even the ground floor is not all one level across the whole complex. What few lifts there are seem to go nowhere useful and you will end up walking up and down a rabbit warren of corridors and stairs. It also attempts to cover all bases with a full board tariff which is really “all Inclusive” (hence the wrist bands) by a different name, Half board and self-catering. As a result it does have the standard naff ‘British’ entertainment in the main bar at night and an attached amusement arcade for kids. Not really our scene, but the bar always appeared busy. Both Pools and pool areas were clean and looked after daily and caught the sun all day. The sun loungers and umbrellas were also in good condition and the pool bar was not too expensive. We stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment. The rooms/apartments are best described as basic but functional and the furniture cheap and, well functional. It’s very cosy as the “bedroom” we had had a wall which did not reach the ceiling so that air could flow into the central room (which had no window) with the camp/bunk beds. If your kids are with you then they either get educated in their parents sex life or you go without. Maid service was every day (inc Sundays) and the rooms were very clean with all things provided working. We were at the end of a corridor so didn’t suffer from that sort of noise, but the road noise, dustbin carts at 5:00am etc really was intrusive. Not the Hotels fault I hasten to add. This is not 5-star accommodation, but it was OK. The JMC rep was absolutely crap. She seemed to know nothing about the resort, island or anything else for that matter. If you want a car, then the JMC/Avis hook up is very very expensive. The cars are good and they bring and collect the car, but you pay through the nose for it. The impression I got was that you could be lucky and get rooms in a good place like we did, but if you get a room in a bad location the hotel noise could be a real problem

This hotel was recommended as a family hotel what rubbish.It is more like an 18-30 the disco in the hotel goes on till 6.00am every morning. The reps and the managment dont wont to no about complaints.The sheets and towels get changed when the maid feels like changing them.there is no sauna no gym the pool is dangerous as children were falling down all the time.JMC should be ashamed at allowing there name to be associated with this hotel or they should pay what we payed £2073.65 and see if they like staying in a hell hole.There was several families asking people to give up their flight so they could come back home.

Just got back from Zante, stayed at the Alexander Apartments, which we thought was adequate for Greek standards. Cannot comment about the food as we did not eat there - too much temptation out on the main streets (although the pool side snack bar was very good). Entertainment, what little we saw was OK (Hotel Entertainer - Stephanie started just after we arrived and made a huge effort but took a nose dive in the second week - also her boyfriend was annoying - should perhaps spend more time looking for work instead of annoying holiday makers). Kevin (new) JMC Rep. was the most down to earth and least annoying Rep we have ever come across. Found Jo very unapproachable and unsociable. We are very surprised at all the negative comments about this hotel as it really was not bad at all. The pool areas were ok, location was ideal and the staff were most friendly - THE REST IS WHAT YOU MAKE OF YOUR HOLIDAY!! OVERALL RATING WAS EXCELLENT.

Me 3 other mates stopped in the Constantino Apartments, which were next to the Alexandra (which meant that we had use of their facilites). We often made use of the bar and found it highly entertaining. Made good friends with bar man called Panos and a bar lass called Mariana so if hes there say hi from Luke, Kitch, Morgan, & Thawley. Oh and yes it does have all the facilites u asked about.

Im staying at the Alexander in a couple of weeks. The brochure says it has a gym, tennis courts and a basketball court. Is this true?

myself and family are just back from a two week holiday when we arrived we were allocated a room three floors up as we had a small child with us this wasnt suitable there was no problem getting our room changed.the hotel does get rather noisy at night but this was to be expected as there was a lot of families with young children the pool does get rather crowded but the beach is only down the road and is very shallow for the kids

this place is an absolute dump. Looks like a prison and feels like one as well. Staff unfriendly, food disgusting and drinks watered down. Stay here at your peril

The Alexander is a good Hotel except for two things, the towels in the room are like Sandpaper and the resident entertainer, is a complete pain, he really got on my nerves. The Hotel is also ideally situated for the beach and the Nightlife. Best Bar Summertime,because of the excellant measures in the drinks and the prices are really cheap. Best restaurant is the Taverna Estia, friendly staff and superb food. Best nightclub/Bar is Zeros great cocktails & bar staff also Good music. Also not all the albanians are bad people. The majority are really friendly

depends what you want from a hotel. 1. at first put into a basement room with no view, beds damp and basicly so depressing that it was unbelivable that jmc even contemplate allowing their use. demanded a move and got a clean room -basic but overall good (of course the normal greek "don't flush" rule prevails, hot**ter hit and miss and showering a bit different). maid service good. 2. pool and poolside (incl. bar) good, and no fighting for sunbeds! the entertainer michael was a good laugh too. tennis and basketball court there too. 3. noise - sorry it was a nightmare. room to room poor, and corriders (which are a maze) being marble echo like mad. unfortunately this was due in alot of ways to people who hadn't a toss for others. the newly opened roof top bar worsened this with people (residents and non res) everynight lost in the corriders (11pm - 6.00am) shouting to each other "no it's not down here, must be the other stairs etc". downstairs main bar ok but there were nights when disco went on to 4.ooam with heavy base beat throughout the hotel. jmc reps and hotel management p**s poor in dealing with it. overall enjoyed the resort but def. not the hotel.

We have just returned home after 2 weeks at the hotel, we are just about to book for next year! We found it to be very clean, the maids came in everyday. The location is excellent, if you want nightlife it is there, if you dont, well it's quiet enough. The hotel bar is good with nightly entertainment, and if you want a late drink the rooftop bar is open until 6:00am!! As always there are people who complain about things, but we couldnt fault anything. The staff are helpful and the reps are about often enough if you need anything. We stayed B&B and although the breakfast was basic, it was exactly as stated in the brochure, (continental), you could have as much as you wanted. Overall we had the best holiday ever and can't wait until next year!

Just come home after two weeks at the Alexander Hotel and it was worth every penny. We stayed 14 nights B&B, the breakfast was a bit boring but it's so cheap in Laganas for a full English (try Hot Lips or Bananas) so we ate out all the time. The hotel is very clean and the rooms are cleaned daily. They are quite small and very basic. A small tip hire a fridge from reception for 2 euros a day ( we didn't know about them till 2 days before we came home). Costas the hotel manager is great and will sort out any problems asap, see him instead of the reps!

staying in alexander hotel, next to the apts. quite basic, but ok. stephanous and yolanda behind the bar were very friendly - try stephanous's ORGASM cocktail - fantastic ! If you want a quieter place to sunbathe, try the astir hotel, near the beach - fab place, but have to pay for sunbeds - 3 euros.

I stayed in this hotel last year August time with 3 mates on a beer fueled lads week. Initially we weren't to pleased with the Hotel, Seemed to be too many kids with parents and not enough of the young ladies. However all was well at ends well Laganas was a fantasic resort. TIP - Dont pay for the air con - Just insert the end of coat hanger into a samll sqaure whole in the front of the unit - Hey presto free air conditionaing!!!!

What exactly do you mean by they lock all exits bar the one at reception - is there a set time that you have to back by then? If so that sucks! I'm heading off in June with a friend and regularly check this page! Is it really a crappy place to stay?

Danny, me and my friend are going to laganas on may 12th and are looking for some new friends around 20+ to go clubbing with as never been before but friends have told me about all the places to go. One of my freinds stayed at Alexander hotel and found it was ok but basic, ok if you are sleeping and clubbing everyday.

Apartments were crap....................however the entertainment was ok. We have 2 teenage boys (we won footy comp) and a 2 year old girl.every night they locked all the exits bar the one at the reception, thats a big hotel for no exits!!Apartments wer o to clever. Laganas however is fantastic so you can grin and bear it. We have freinds with a hotel so we spent alot of time up thre thank god!!!!!The Pithari is a cool bar and pool, very freindly and donnt mind the kids

Danny There is loads to do on Zante. You won't get bored. Nightlife in Laganas isn't as wild as its made out to be but it's ok. There's plenty of choice, it's fairly cheap and in walking distance. It's there if you want it.

I stayed at the Alexander Hotel last may. My friends and I really enjoyed ourselves. We paid £340 for 1 week AI. We found the hotel to be clean, well run and it had a friendly atmosphere. for the amount of money paid we couldn't expect anything more. It was great value for money and we had a great time!

We stayed at the Alexander last year and although it was a bit basic, we enjoyed it. The food it is ok. Not a huge selection and a bit repetative but it is bearable. The hotel is extremely clean and the staff are friendly. We had a lovely time. Hope you do too.

I am going to Laganas in September, staying at the Alexander Hotel Full board. I was wondering if anyone has any idea about the food and drink in the hotel, and whether the island is still busy in sept

We are going in august 2002 we want to know if there is air conditioning in the apartments as we are going self catering. Also any comments from people who have been self catering would be helpful

we stayed there last may at the same time as the people who complained on watchdog.we thorougly enjoyed ourselves.the hotel was fine and i personally think they were moaning about nothing.I don't know about them but we paid £370 for 2 wks AI so for that money i think it was well worth it.The hotel was clean,staff friendly and the food was nice,but not a huge choice.To be quite honest they were a miserable bunch from day one,always moaning about something or other.The hotel was nice,the island beautiful, hope u have a lovely time like we did.

Both me my wife and two teenage boys have booked up to go to the Hotel Alexandra in Laganas for summer 2002. Since then I have saw roports on watchdog, I am currently taking this up with jmc and trying to get as much information together as possible on this Hotel. Feelings seem to be mixed any comments on summer 2001 would be of HELP! Thanks

We have just returned from two weeks at this hotel and we had a brilliant time.There were 14 in our party 4 of them were kids and they loved it. The staff were great especially the bar staff. I don't know what the complaints were about the food because between us all we tried a bit of everything and found it all to be very nice.The entertainment on a night was a bit basic, with bingo every night and then kareoke or game shows on other nights. But if you don't mind getting up and having a laugh and enjoying yourselves then you should enjoy staying here.

Greece is Greece and if you cant get used to puting toilet paper in a bin and not down the loo dont go! The Alexandra is the equivalent of a ** but the food is not good...go B&B not fully inc. There are some superb restaurants around, the best being salt and pepper, about 50 yds away towards the beach, or Aphroditis, 400 yds west of main st. The hotel is lively, not up to Spanish standards, but better than most greek cheap hotels.If you fancy being surrounded by drunken brits this is the place for you, but if you enjoy the quieter life dont! Use The Kalamaki end of the beach for peace or take a trip to Banana Beach for more solitude. Remember this hotel is SOLELY JMC, Thomas Cook would turn in his grave.

We have just returned from Hotel Alexander, We found the accomodation to be basic, but very clean, all we expected from 2*. We went for one week all inclusive on a teletext deal paying £340 per person. We found this to be value for money, if you are not willing to try Greek food then you will not like much of the food served in the hotel. The staff were helpful, bar staff served us very quickly and with as many drinks as wanted. Watchdog visited the hotel whilst we were there, they stated that the main complaints had been over the quality of the food, but if you want fish and chips perhaps it would be wise to holiday in Blackpool every year. We had no problems securing a place by the pool, free sun loungers were always available, however we were holidaying late season. We booked all our trips locally, following the advice on this site. They indeed proved to be much cheaper. We enjoyed the day trip to kefalonia, which was very well run. We were extremely worried about travelling with JMC, however there were minimal delays at the airport, even with the USA problems. Reps were evident at the hotel and dealt with any problems quickly. In our opinion we got value for money, however had we paid £640 per week we would have expected a better perhaps quieter location. If you are going to the Hotel Alexander to enjoy yourself, we think you will. There was however a number of holiday makers at the hotel who were enjoying themselves complaining, and we have always found this to be the case whether you stay 2* or 5* abroad or in sunny England

could anyone give me any feed back on zante hotel alexander as i have just booked a holiday there,i have heard a lot of bad things about the place and at has even been shown on watchdog,if any one has been in the last two weeks please could you pass your comments on as i have booked with a party of ten including children and dont want to be disapointed,your comments would be much appreciated.

We too were dreading this hotel re the previous comments, but it was fine, it is very British so not much exchange of culture, but it was very clean, the food was fine (and sufficient for us vegetarians) if a bit repetitive. The beach is beautiful and the sights are amazing. The air conditioning is well worth paying for as it is really hot, there are also a lot of flies, wasps and mosquitoes especially at night and the entertainment leaves a lot to be desired, especially film night, but on the whole it was okay. The airport is dreadful, so have plenty of drinks ready, if travelling by JMC they pick you up much too early and we queued for 2 hours in the boiling heat but another tour operator had their clients checked in and through within 20 minutes, so get a taxi instead. If visiting Zante Town do have a pizza at Giovanni's, delicious.

I was dreading my stay here after reading some of the comments, but overall this is a great Hotel. We wend All inc and I must admit that while this is worth doing with kids, if you are there as a couple you will want to spend most days on the beach which is only a 5 minute walk away and this can be a waste of money. Excellent food and service, and yes, they have air conditioned rooms, for about £2 a night, and it is DEFINITELY worth getting it!!!

We have just been on holiday for a week, in the Alexander Hotel and had a brilliant time. I read comments about it before i went, and was dreading going.My friend and i had a lovely time, and i can't believe some of the comments about it. Any one reading this, go and you will have a great holiday there.

Reading the comments of Alasdair Munro 16th July 2001 prompted us to add our own. Please dont let Alasdair's views put you off. We spent a week at the Alexander Hotel Laganas at Whitsun. What a great place for a "family" all inclusive holiday in Greece. We have had lots of holidays in Greece and this was one of the best. In the end you get what you pay for, we think that we had good value for money. The hotel is advertised as a 2* and the food is typicaly Greek, what else would you expect in Greece?? Ratings based on 2* Hotel and price paid. Room 10/10, we were in the new part. Pool 8/10, sun all week. Pool bar 7/10 be patient. Main bar Iani 10/10, other bar staff 7/10. Reception staff 7/10. Restaurant food 8/10. Restaurant staff 9/10. Entertainment, day 7/10, great fun. Entertainment, night 4/10, noisy family. Entertainment, greek night 8/10, good food. JMC, met them at the end of the week, but were very helpfull. Dont pay for transfers @ £15 each from the airport, taxi only about £8 total. We are keeping an eye on teletext at the moment and hope to return to the Alexander within the next few weeks. Yammas.

I have been told that the free pedlos have stopped

I can't believe some of the reports about this hotel!! We were there from 12/7/01 for one week and could not fault anything about it. Great location for the beach and the shops etc. Food and drinks good and plentifull.Well kept pool area and clean rooms. When we first arrived there was a smell outside our room , we told the JMC rep and it was dealt with immediatly.I wish that we had booked for a fortnight, and this is from someone who is very very fussy about holidays

Me and my friend Sarah have just came back from Zante and we thought the hotel was great! We are only 13 but if we were older we would go to all the cool clubs that were near by. There was plenty of entertainment in the hotel and we made lots of friendz. I would defenitly go back there again.

We have just returned from two weeks in this dump. JMC should be ashamed of themselves for claiming that they always have the best interests of their clients at heart when they are so obviously just after a quick buck! Let me explain: The Alexander Hotel has just recently had it's capacity almost doubled by the building of two extra floors. Unfortunately, despite the addition of a "postage size" swimming pool they and the hotel owners have neglected to increase other facilities to accommodate the increased numbers. Consequently, the swimming pool area is like the black hole of Calcutta, the reception area is constantly mobbed, noisey and smelly and the accommodation facilities for those unlucky enough to be placed in the older part of the hotel is nothing short of disgraceful. The JMC reps are incapable at this resort of dealing with the daily list of customer complaints and the majority of the hotel staff are totally incompetent (apart from a receptionist called Denise). The food (for those unlucky enough to have chosen an "all inclusive") is extremely limited in choice for all meals and is served in totally unhygienic conditions. The food has to be transported from the kitchen where it is prepared, across the smokey, alcohol smelling reception area and into the poorly lit dining hall.What astonished me was that the same area that is used for displaying and serving the food is also used to collect dirty dishes and other waste from tables. The food was never warm and what was even more concerning was that there was a small micro wave placed at the end of the serving counter where the hotel requested that we heat up our food if we liked it piping hot... imagine 600 guests lining up to heat up their meals! The only thing that this place had in it's favour was that the cleaning ladies did a good job in keeping the rooms clean and tidy. This place needs to be completely re-organised with a new team of people brought in to manage. JMC have failed the people who put their trust in them and purchased 'all inclusive' deals at this resort. Believe me, I am not the only individual who experienced a holiday from hell from the 2nd - 16th July 2001. We have formed a "victims support group". This was our 5th all inclusive deal - all others were of a very high standard indeed- this was most definitely NOT!!!

me and my fiancee are going in two weeks time and ive heard mixed comments about alexander and jmc but its been so long since i had a holiday i dont care,as long as ive got a clean bed and loads of sun and beer ill be happy,we only paid £600 each for 2 weeks all inclusive so i dont expect much,your holiday is what you make it.so laganas here we come.ill let you know about it if we make it back to boring britain.;>)

we have just arrived back from zante after staying at the alexander hotel.we had many problems here regarding the rooms,after a long tiring journey we were put into 1 room instead of the 2 that i had booked.on entering the room there was damp and water running down the wall from upstairs making the top bunk wet,door didnt lock,air con didnt work after paying for it.reports to reception were very slow to respond. then put into other rooms air con still not working,then toilet broke and we had to wait until next afternoon till it could be fixed.pool there good but not sup**vised.snacks served good.bar only served 3 drinks at a time which we found not to good as we were a family of 4.beach nearby sandy and good to swim with fish.boat trips good to caves and turtles.visited sarakina via yellow bus had great night with good greek dancing and good food.loads of clubs if you like them.

Have just come back from two weeks at the Alexander.We had a good two weeks and on the whole the hotel was very good. It is in an ideal location, close enough to the action but not too close. The staff at the hotel are very helpful and it is extremely clean. There are organised activities throughout the day and evening entertainment. There are two swimming pools and a baby pool and there are plenty of sunbeds so you don't need to get up early and leave your towel out! It is also only a short walk to the beach. You can hire pedalos from the hotel and it is worth doing this because otherwise they cost 4000drx for an hour.The only complaint we had about it was the food. It wasn't too bad it was just a bit repetative. It is very Greek and everything seemed to taste the same. Breakfast was the worst and we found ourselves going out most days. However, the snacks during the day are good. Generally a good hotel and I would recommend it.

we stayed at the alexander end of may for two weeks no long trousers needed in dining room.breakfast basic but reasonable toast and jam or cornflakes but if your a late riser snack bar is open 11-12 bar staff very busy but most times reasonable read past comments and think how many drinks can you drink at once, in all very reasonable hotel would book again no hesitation

We are due to stay at The Alexander for 2weeks in 21/6. I have read in some other hol brochures that men may be expected to wear long pants at dinner in some hotels on Zante. Is this true of this hotel?

We found Alexander Hotel a good family holiday. We were also on the top floor at the back of the hotel (rooms 600...) and found them very clean with bunk beds for the kids not a camp bed for the 2nd child. We didn't use the pedalos, but if you want to you book them via reception, although you might be best to book at the beginning of your holiday as we heard there was a long waiting list. There is also a swimming pool at the back of the hotel which is smaller and quiter than the main pool and ideal for younger children. The food is OK with always a choice and a kids meal bar. There is also a kids club for 1 or 2 hours each day and plenty of other activities ie waterpolo, football et. We had a lovely 2 weeks and thought it value for money however we didn't pay full price as some people had. Lastly take mosquito sprays etc as we all got bitten!!

Had better all inclusive deals, but overall not to bad.

I have just come back from a week at the Alexander with my sister. We had previously read the comments about this hotel and where slightly wary about it. On arrival we where given a room on the ground floor near the main reception/bar area with a balcony that led out to a back street! We instantly asked to be moved however the Hitler esque night receptionist was insisting that the hotel was full and couldn't move us. To cut a long story short I dont think he expect my sister and myself to sit in reception until he did something about it. We where eventually shown 2 other rooms( quite a feat considering the hotel was "full") and moved into room 620 which was set back on the second floor and appeared to be recently re furbished. This room could have been in a totally different hotel compared to the 1st and 2nd rooms we where shown! The hotel itself is fairly basic but very clean and the other staff , especially Kostas and Aphrodite(yes really!), where very friendly and helpful. There was a average choice of food however we did eat out one night as it did get a bit monotonous. The entertainment was heavily family based which didn't appeal to us but thats not to say it wasn't good. The poolside snack bar served the usual sandwichs, chips and burgers and the english women who serves you is very amusing purley because shes on a different planet. One tip tho give her all your order at once that way you have more chance of getting it all! You do get free pedeloes however we never wound up using them. IT wasn't a bad place and considering we paid half the normal AI price due to late availability we got a good deal HOWEVER it wouldn't be somewhere I'd pay over £600 for a week to go to!!

It doesn't say anything about that in my brochure. I would be interested to know if it the case and how it is organised. I am going next Thursday so I would appriciate some info.

The holiday brochure states that we have free use of the pedaloes does anyone know how this works

We stayed at the Alxeander Hotel back in july 99'. It was an absolutly fantastic holiday (7 lads on the raz). When we went, the hotel was run by Thompson who for some reason kept a low profile around the place (which is probably why it is a JMC hotel now!!) On the first morning after we arrived the rep was quick to coller us about several complants of noise coming from our apartments at about 4 the mornng. When we told him that we did'nt get in untill 8am and that we had proof because we did'nt collect our keys from the securiy guard till then, he quikly put the blame on someone else. When there was any complaints of noise, the reps would try to blame a group of lads or girls before even finding out any facts what so ever. A good tip for groups for lads or girls is to stick together in groups at night and keep to the main roads when walking home. Don't be tempted to take a shortcut as the back roads are badly lit. Try to keep noise to a minimum at night because the locals don't take any stick what so ever!!! The hotel is quite a walk from the night life, about 3/4 mile to the main bars. we visited may 1999 as all inclusive guests with 2 children.the food was not too good for adults but the kids seemed to enjoy it.unlike other all inclusive holidays the free drinks were not just locally made. the staff came across as being very friendly. the location is far enough away from the main drag to keep away from the noise but still close enough to walk to the beach and the night life.we found the local cafe's/restaurant's were very cheep and friendly.the pool is a nice area to relax with a terrace bar although there is no poolside sup**vision. we are going back to this hotel in july for a fortnight. p.s:if visiting for the 1st time do not get put off by the sights you see on the way from the airport to the hotel

Stayed here in August and it was quite a fun hotel, however it is a bit too far fom the main strip, and the pools not too special either

we stayed all inclusive here with jmc. the bar staff where tight with the drinks, only allowing you to take 1 at a time despite the queues. those staying on a b and b basis, and therefore, because they were waving money for drinks at the bar staff got served first. there wasn't a very good choice of food and after a week we were sick of it. fotunately most of the nearby cafes do a full english breakfast with toast, orange juice and tea or coffee for about â£2.00. the worst thing was the smell. rooms at the back of the hotel were worst as that's where the sewage treatment thing was. you couldn't leave your windows open for it. a word of warning to those with small children - the pool is unsup**vised and deep. my daughter got out of her depth the first day we were there. on the plus side, the location was excellent, within walking distance of pubs clubs and beach, but far enough away to be quiet at night. best asset was undoubtedly mike and sally in charge of entertainment who gave 110% effort, and made sure you enjoyed yourself.
