Taverna Merlis is just fab.  Ate there in June with my family.

The specials are amazing - less that 7 euro for starter, mains and dessert.  Food is well cooked and portions are generous.  They also give you free breads and dips.  House wine is really good and the carafes are very reasoanable.  Staff are lovely - really friendsly.  Couldnt recommend it highly enough.

Were staying in kalamaki, were there last year also, the waiter came up and said he remembered us from last year, it made us feel special, the meal we ordered was very good, the staff were very attentive, it is one of our favourite resturants and when we go back to kalamaki again next year we will certainly be eating there again, the prices were good also.

Just got back from a week in Kalamaki and ate in Merlis Taverna most mornings and every evening. Food is fresh and tasty and represents excellent value for money. They have a daily special on the board outside which provides you with 3 courses for between 7.50 euro and 8.50, a typical example is onion soup starter, kleftiko main and cheesecake dessert . Onion soup is divine as is the feta saganaki and cheese pies. Breakfasts are superb, hubby went for the full english each monring ( 2 eggs, 2 sausages, 2 rashers bacon, beans, hash brown, mushrooms, toast, tea or coffee & orange juice - cost 5.50euro) and I went for the slightly lighter option of the veggie breakfast which was bascially the same as the full english minus the bacon and sausage (4.50 euro) it really set you up for a day sunbathing. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive and make sure your experience is a good one. Have been going to kalamaki for 10 years now and this place really is the best and most consistent on value and service with a smile. Try it, you will NOT be disappointed.

Wasn't impressed with this restaurant at all.  The food lacked something - flavour possibly?  Had chicken souvlaki which was so burnt it was black on the outside, jacket potato was rock hard and cold, as were the vegetables.  No one seemed particulary interested in the fact that most of the dinner was left.  Other diners around us complained and said that the meat was too tough but the waiter did nothing.  Would not recomend this to anyone unfortunately.

This is by far THE BEST restaurant in Kalamaki. I have been to Kalamaki twice, and have eaten here both times even thogh my hotel has been miles away! Scary, my mum went to Merlis 20 years ago (when it was a bar) and came back pregnant with me so Takis is my father, and he;s also a wonderful host! I recommend the stuffed vine leaves and moussaka - delicious!!!

Chris H

Deborah S

This year was our 1st visit to Zante and we'd definitely go again. We ate in Merlis 5 times and the food was fantastic and also cheap. All the staff were very friendly and the owner always shook our hands as we left. After our 3rd visit we always got a free round of drinks when we paid the bill, what more could you ask for!!
