Captains Hotel

Accommodation in Argassi

Deborah P          4/10

Myself my husband and 2, 15 year olds have just stayed at Capains complex at the commodore,we had a room for 4 which was big enough basic and everything we needed. The bathroom was ok but the shower cubicle was so tiny you could not move your arms without movingthe curtain and flooding the bathroom. We managed it was only for ten days. The views were fantastic we had a sea view but from the front of the hotel to our room we had 79 steps up and down to negotiate every time.Tis meant we could keep fit and eat more. We found the food ok but very repetive but did manage to find somthing we liked, but by day 6 we had to eat out enough is enough. We only found 1 member of staff friendly this was Cody behind the reception who was lovely and took the time to smile and speak We found that there were not many english people so not many families to chat to mostly polish or german. I dont think we will book to go back. There were many safety issues we could have reported but did not as we went for happy holiday.

We stayed at the Captains Hotel for a week in May 2008, we loved everything about it, It was slightly up hill and at a dead end so there was no passing traffic etc, the food was good always a good selection to choose from, the pool areas were great in the captains you have a choice of 3 pools in total, 2 are next to each other, one is raised slightly higher than the other. The views were second to none. There was evening entertainment every evening down at the admiral which is the sister hotel which is just across the road from the commodore, and there was daytime activities also. Both myself and my wife had a total relaxing holiday, we did try and stay on for a few extra days but there were no seats on the plane back. The only one thing that was a slight negative was the rooms are basic, but as you know all you people who have travelled to greece before, all the rooms you get are basic but there are many advantages to the greak rooms, you get a fridge(bonus). Our rooms were cleaned every day and if we made the beds before we went out they would remake them and our towels were changed everyday.

We loved it that much we have booked again for next year for 11 nights 17th May. Roll on next May.

just spent a week at the hotel, which i have done on previous years due to the quality of the hotel and never having a bad thing to say about it and its staff!  But unfortunatly this year i have nothing good to say apart from the view from main reception.  we had six people and we had booked 2 rooms for 3 people. we were given the two rooms but one room with a double and a single and one with 4 beds cramed into the one, we went down to reception to try and sort it out but the person on the reception said he didnt understand english and to come back later.

we saw our rep who was a great help and she reported we had a problem it took two days for the to bring us another bed which they left in the hall by our room and expected us to take it in and remove the double bed. our rooms were also never cleaned apart from the first day we had to get our own clean towels and sheets! and the smell comming into the room from the kitchen which was right next to it stunk like swege ! cannot believe how down hill this place had gone since last time we visited

Well we stayed in the captains for 2 weeks. In these 2 weeks, our room got cleaned a grand total of 3 times. Clean towels twice. We also had stuff stolen from our room, even tho we locked the door. The staff here are some of the most ignorant and unhelpfull people we met on the island. When buses or trucks or cars drive up the hill, the balcony doors rattle that much it wakes you up. The air conditioning didnt work, complained 5 times and got nowhere. No kettle, again complained and nothing. We spent most of our time down at the hotel Contessa. Much better hotel, entertainment was fantastic here. Much better location. So thats where we are staying when we go back in september.

Hi guys

Don't know why so many people leaving so many bad comments about the Captains.Myself,my fiancee Gemma (the 1 on the right) & my sister Gemma just got back yesterday after spending a week there & we had a fab time.We only stayed self catering but the staff were so friendly & helpful. We had no complaints at all. It's a long way up the hill but if u take the shortcut thru the commodore then it's not half as bad as people make out.Only been home 1 day but already looking to book next year for 2 weeks.Pool not large but how much time do u actually spend in there!!!!!

Had brekkie everyday at the Snack Academy & George was so friendly & such a laugh(he also works at the world tour golf bar at night). He difinately brightened up our week.(He's the 1 on the pic)

The Beer Academy great place for cocktails & staff friendliness.Went there everynight.

Also recommend The Sunburnt Arms. The English Guys Mark,Lee & Kirsty such a laugh.Definately be seeing them again next year.

Went on the Jeep Safari.Lunch at the top of the cliffs so amazing.Such amazing views & scenery.Very highly recommended A++++++

My Fiancee Gem already missing all the cats LOL

Wish we could go back tomorrow

See u all next year

Cheryl B

STAYED  AT  THE  CAPTAINS  HOTEL  AUGUST  2006  HAD  BRILL  TIME

AMY  THE  BARMAID  IS FAB  SHE  WORKS  ALL HOURS  AND  WAS  ALWAYS  VERY  HELPFUL

THE  ROOMS  ARE  ONLY BASIC  BUT WERE CLEANED  EVERYDAY

THE  POOL  WAS   FAR  TO SMALL  NEEDS  TO BE  ALOT  BIGGER  FOR  THE  SIZE  OF THE  HOTEL

THE  FOOD  WAS  VERY GOOD.

ALL IN  ALL THE  HOTEL  WAS GREAT, STAFF  VERY  FRIENDLY  WOULD  RECOMMEND  THIS  HOTEL

TO  EVERYBODY

Lisa E

The pool here is a joke no tiles on the side all the steps around the pool are broken, not very clean. the rooms at the hotel are very basic bed, sink an fridge thats it shower is just a curtain so bathroom always gets flooded.Reception looks great nice view but thats were it ends ( and for a tip never eat at petes family restaraunt its foul they will grab you in when you go past dont eat there!!!!!)if you go to legends best breakfast nice meals too. zorbas and athena also nice to eat at.... but not petes belive me Pissed you will have the sh*tsCry

Daniel W

Me and my mates have just come back from argassi last friday and the staff at the captains were very helpful, my mate somehow lost his passport on route to the hotel from the airport, the staff contacted our rep and the coach company and we had his passport back within two days!!! just like to thank the staff at the hotel we really enjoyed our stay.  the only problem with the hotel was that you have to leave your room the day before you leave so that they can prepare it for the next guests.

Mel S

me and my friend stayed at the captains, and we really liked it.  there is a massive hill to the main entrance, but we found a short-cut where you can go up some steps through the pool and past the commodor ... this was better we thought, coz it cut off the hill.

the food was ok ... salad was lush, but the mains were a bit random ... one night it was chips, potatoes, pasta and rice .... with some meat thing ... but not a huge range to be honest!!
the people were so nice ... we evertually broke the head receptionist in to a bit of a smile which is always a good thing!!

Adi is the best ... we miss him so much!! he really looked out for us ... so if ur a group of girls or woteva .. he's like your big brother who'll make sure your ok! Amy is an absloute legend ... shes so cool ... and a right laugh!! all the staff are fun, and make u feel really comfortable. we had to pay 5 euros a day for air conditioning...thats the only annoying thing .... but worth it, coz it was sooooo hot!!

there wasnt a huge amount of things to do ... there were a few bars and that ... but only a few that we thought were decent, we ended up going to the same bar every night ... we're not really in to clubbing and whatever, and i think this resort suited that ... there were loads of couples around ... i think its an ideal resort for couples ... but brilliant hotel!! x

Emma

i remember Tina from last year she was very helpful, just got back from staying at the Captains for the 2nd time however Tina was not there.  Amy a girl from liverpool was very helpful with a particular problem we had with one of our mates who got a bit too drunk one night, just wanna say a big thankyou to her for her help!!

D K

we went to argassi for our first holiday last year and stayed at the captain's.  we liked it, was a bit miffed at lack of ac but we lived.  we went self-catering and the apartment was basic but it was all we needed.  tina was lovely but worked like a dog bless her (can someone let me know if she is still there??) and the girl who worked in the bar at night (lovely girl from liverpool - name escapes me) was really friendly despite being homesick  i really want to go back but other half wants to island hop.  it was lovely and i would recommend it to anyone but be prepared for pig-ignorant brits thinking they can speak to the locals like s**t and then embarrass themselves by getting pissed and being loud and obnoxious in the many restauants.  the waiters etc were so polite to them but i'm guessing they had some a sort of bodily fluid in their all day english breakfast

Valerie

hi jade, i can tell you that breakfast and evening meal are at the captains,my family and i are thinking of going all inc and ours will be the same but lunch time we can eat at the poolside snack bar between 10am-5pm.lunch is at the Admirals, captains and the comodore.i am confident that the meals will be alright.i havn't been to zante but have learnt a lot about the place on the message boards.have you used it yet?any thing you would like to know i can find out for you if i dont know my self.take care  valerie.

William K

Didn't stay in the Captains as was in the Commodore Appartments, spent a large part of the evenings though in the Captains playing pool.

If you really like a quiet drink rather than clubbing then this is the place to be and Amy who works behind the bars in the evenings is very friendly and would ensure that you have a great time.
Can't wait to return to visit the area.

Daniel W

Me and my mates loved the captains, it was the first time i went abroad and the staff were very friendly and helpful, we really got on with the english girl who worked there, can't remeber her name but really friendly! cant wait to go back in july 2006.

cya all soon dan, pazza, jon and the buffalo.  Tongue

click to enlargeclick to enlargeclick to enlarge We originally booked for the Admiral apartments but after the noise experienced the first night that we
stayed there we very soon realized that what we were sold was not what we got.
Although the apartments are very clean and provided with all the things you require for a self catering
holiday the complex is very lively and we mean untill the very early hours ie 04:30 hours.
The first night we stayed there after being up since 2am the previous night for an early flight we had
drunken girls screaming and running down the corridors at 4:30am this was not what we wanted out of a
holiday or indeed booked.
However the opposite is to be said about the Captains this is a lovely Hotel with very helpfull and kind
staff as is typical in Zante.
The restaurant is exceptional in both its location and the food served,it caters for all tastes including
vegetarians.
It overlooks the bay with stunning views,is air conditioned and is spotlessly clean food is served as self
service leaving you to decide what and how much you want to eat.
The pool area is cleaned daily and has plenty of sun beds,(with mattresses to hire at 1 euro /day should
you want them).
You can of course use the pool at the commadore (the hotel next door) or the one at the Admiral aparts
down the road.
The rooms are clean with air con should you want it at a small charge and have all the things you need,a
fridge kettle 2 ring hob and a microwave/oven/grill plus a toaster.
There is a spacious lounge with leather seating and a tv to relax in at the evening with a drink from the
bar, also a pool table that my sons made good use of.(got them out of our way even if it was for a short
 time)
The hotel is located up a fairly steep hill and may not be suitable for those who find walking difficult, but
the steep hill is worth the hard walk up to take advantage of this hotel's stunning views.
There is an elevator to all floors located in the reception area and although very small is reliable.
If you have booked self catering only you can purchase your evening meal at the reception either each
day or as you wish for 8 euro each half price for children and free for under 4 yrs, well worth the money.
This hotel is located not far from the main attractions ofArgassi and close enough for the local
supermarkets and restaurants, gift shops and tour operators etc but far enough away should you like
ourselves want a quiet evening after a long day exploring this gorgeous island.
Our thanks to our Thomas Cook rep Mark and the hotel manager Gerte also to Tina and Clare for
making our holiday one we will not forget.
In fact we enjoyed it so much that we are going to return in 2006 to this very same hotel.
We cannot recommend this hotel enough, take a look at the pictures attached they are from our room.!!!!!

Karen D

MY DAUGHTER SINEAD AND I STAYED AT CAPTAINS FROM 26/09/05 TO 03/10/05 WE HAD A FANTASTIC HOLIDAY MADE EVEN MORE SPECIAL BY THE FRIENDLY STAFF WHO MADE US MORE THAN WELCOME, EVERY THING WAS CLEAN AND FOOD WAS EXCELLENT( ESPECIALLY THE CHEESE PIE ). JUST WANT TO THANK ANDREAS, TINA, CLAIRE AND THE REST OF THE STAFF AND HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL NEXT YEAR...

Me and my sister have just booked to go back to the Captains next year we only came back from there two weeks ago! It was great the food was great and the staff were excellant especially Tina she was really friendly . The pool at the commodor was the best pool to sit round as it was quiet and relaxing. Our rep Andy was a great guy and always when we needed him.

We want to go back now!

Gemma C

Four of us stayed at Captains and loved it! all the staff are really helpful and friendly especially the receptionist Tina who is a little sweety! as is the Thomas Cook rep Mark We would definitly stay there again, hopefully we will be returning next summer! the view from our room was amazing, we got a view of the pool area and also a brilliant view of zante town etc.  you dont have to walk up the steep hill, you just have to cut through the commodore which saves a lot of time and energy!!

the pool area is lovely but we prefered to use the commodore pool as it is bigger. the hotel is in a good position so all the bars/clubs/resturants are a very short walking distance away.  we dont agree with the comments about it being noisy at night with "pisseads" (possibly because we didnt actaully get back till 8am!
the maids came everyday and if u leave the towels on the floor by the door they will be changed (we left them drying on the balcony a few times so they wernt changed)
we recommend going to Castaways for at least one meal during your holiday its lovely and also if you like to party go to Factory the atmosphere is brill especially after 12am, also the staff are very friendly they will show ya a very good time!

Very basic. Shabby and def not chic!

The last part of the hill is a killer so be careful. Yes.... you can cut through but then your up and down steps like a don't know what!
We found it very noisy accomadation. Pi$$ heads returning, doors slamming, plates smashing (??) at all hours. We stayed in room 101 (lol!) Behind the wall at the back of the double bed is the pool table, might as well have been in the room with us!
We reported the balcony light numerous times as it needed a new bulb. Still didn't work when we left.
Maid service was very erratic. She came twice on the day we arrived then just popped in to empty loo bin ( this didn't get emptied one day ewwww!). Sheets were changed a couple of times but we had to ask for clean towels. Wet and used towels were left on the bathroom floor to be taken away, often they were there for days. There they sat amongst the pubic hairs that welcomed us as we arrived!
Pool areas were small and cramped.
Thomas Cook rep...Mark was lovely .
Andreas at reception had a face like a slapped ar$e all the time. Someone should also advise him about personal hygiene.
The Albanian guy that worked nights was great and helpful. Hedi I think he was called. Poor guy had to help with our cases when going home. We had to move down to the commadore to get the coach. Not a big problem but at 3;30am with a bad back and two tired kids...Some Greek guy making out we had misheard when the board clearly said pick up outside accomadation.
Anyway............we would go back to Aragassi...but not to the Captains! Basically it was just some where to sleep for us as we were there to visit family.
Positives...........Beautiful view from our balcony and comfy chairs in the lounge!

Sounds all negative but this was how we found it. If we wasn't there to see family we would have probably used the hotel facilities more.ie; The Admiral.
Good luck to anyone going out there. Don't forget your earplugs!
