Ionian Sea

This looked great but 5 of us were squashed onto a table that only just takes 4, they couldn't put tables together for us like all the other restaurants. The waiters were miserable (when you could get their attention to ask them for something) and when we eventually saw a waiter and asked for the bill he looked at us like we were mad, we had to ask several times and wait for ages. Food was good, but the ervice was the most disappointing of the 2 weeks.

Went here once because it looked like one of the nicer places from the outside, but were disapointed. We had to wait for a table outside, which was fair enough coz they were busy, but then we had to wait ages for them to ask what we wanted to drink, then ages to order our meal, then it took another 30 minutes before our food came!! I did say they were busy, but there were waiters standing around doing nothing whilst we were waiting to order. The food was the worst we had all holiday and it was not cheap. I think the couple who ate for about 10 Euro's must have ordered kids meals or a couple of lettuce leaves as the cheapest meal we had in Laganas was 14 Euro's!!!

Service was appalling, took nearly an hr before they asked us what drinks we wanted.
Waiters were rude, we wanted a table outside, the greek guy complained that it was going to rain, and we must eat inside. Which I thought fair enough until he started seating other people outside. After all the waiting the food was the poorest I had on holiday

Avoid this place at all costs

We ate there on 4 of the 7 nights and was impressed each time. A starter and a main (plus a lager/wine) will cost roughly 10 Euros (£7).
Don't know why lot;s are slagging this place off, it was good!

The waiters were very professional and friendly, even if they were very busy.

I recommend the Ionian.

A very pretty place to eat, even when your stuck in the courner, but very busy. Some people in there seemed a bit stuck up.

The bread they gave us at the start was the nicest I had there - the meals were ok. I had a pizza, good size, couldnt finish it all though.

Service wasnt that great, and some of us nearly got our heads knocked off by the waiters with huge wooden trays, but it was really busy.

This is a beautiful setting in which to eat.....and that's it!
The Ionian Sea looked so popular, with plenty of people eating there, that we were suckered into trying the place. Big Mistake! this was without doubt the worse place we ate at all week. The service was poor, with all the waiters being quite ignorrant, and one or two of them in desperate need of deoderant - not nice when you're trying to eat. However, the food...when they eventually brought it was't worth the wait. Small portions, over cooked, and looking like a poor excuse for a meal. Needless to say, no tip was left, and we didn't re-visit.

it looked l;ovely to begin, but the service firstly let it down, then the food, then the price considering no1 ate mmuch of it. not recomendable but it was terrible.

this has got to be the worst restaurant in the whole of zante! we hated it! there were 5 in our party and only 1 of us thought the meal was ok but nothing special the rest of us thought it was totally CRAP basically! 1 of us asked for rare steak and when it came it was so tough the steak knife wouldn't cut through it! 1 of us got told we couldn't have omelette as a main course even though it was on the menu, the chips were cold and the other two meals were just disgusting. the service was awful the waiter who took our orders was very ignorant with a huge attitude problem, if we hadn't started to eat the bread already we would have walked out, we didnt even get asked why we didnt eat our meals!
I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone who wants a decent meal even though its in an ideal location dont let the scenery fool u! its the one on the corner of the two main roads in lagana.

We ate in here on our last nite and had a lovely meal. The staff were all very friendly. The service was a bit on the slow side but it was a very busy restaurant. Would recommend trying it.

We were in Laganas on the 18tgh May for two weeks and we went to this place to eat, we found it to be very good, the food was very good and so was the service

Food not too good, but the location very nice. Wouldnt eat here again.

This place has the prime location, on the corner of the two main roads and as a result is always full but not deservedly so - it's OK but nothing special at all. You can do much better elsewhere. Sorry guys, you need to try a little harder.

The food was very good but the service was non existent. Eat here only if you don't mind waiting around a lot in nice surroundings.

Saved this one till our last night. Big place looked the works but our worst meal of our holiday. The service was slow and the food not all that. They didn't seem too happy when we didn't want to see the desert menu.

The only good (?) aspect to this restaurant was watching the main man dashing from one entrance to another trying to drag people in.

The service was extremely slow. The food was OK I suppose but without the bread (which is charged extra) we would have starved before the main course arrived.

Got out as quickly as possible - took ages to get the bill - and off to Millagro (a very good bar).

Hated this restaurant! Waited to eat here until the night of our anniversary (and also 2nd to last day on holiday)as we thought it looked lovely and good menu - went all out, lobster, champagne, whatever we wanted for a real celebration but unfortunately the the main meal was very overcooked and the boiled lobster completely dried out! As a result, we did not go back the next night.

I can not believe the comments on his page. We went the this place every night bar two on our holiday and the service can not be faulted. Lawrence the guy in the door as lovely, not the typical greek letch, and was always friendly. The waiters inside were efficient and also friendly. The food was lovely and very reasonably priced. The service was excellent and the food worth waiting for. We would definatly recommend this place to anyone. Siobhan and Carrie xxx

Cannot believe some of the comments on this place! The food and service was excellent! We had the mixed grill for 2 and thouroughly enjoyed every bit - plenty of every kind of meat imaginable. The setting of the restaurant was also amazing and the guy at the door a good laugh!

A lovely meal, and good price. Seems to be better when it is quieter .. No atmosphere inside though - better to get a table outside if you can.

Sorry but this was the best restaurant we went to all holiday! The food was lovely and the surroundings were beautiful especially by the fountain! The service was a bit slow but it was very very busy when we went! If u go to Laganas go there!!

4 of us decided we would go by the appearance of this resturant and the fact that it looked very busy every night....how wrong we were. the guy at the entrance called my boyfriend diamond geezer and his friend matey boy in a terrible greek/cockney accent which was not funny at all to start with. he then babbled on about the menu and was becoming a pain in the a**e. he treid to sit us at a table we didnt want and when we went to a table he walked away giving us a dirty look. as for the food potatoe skins without any from aof dressing and terrible oily cheese melted on them. i had a hawian pizza and it was cold and totally uneatable. my b/f had lamb kleftico that was ok but the meat was very fatty. our friends had beef stifado and it was ok except again meat was fatty. service was ok but they cocked up the drinks order 3 times. only thing with this place is that if it rains and ya halfway through a meal ya gotta run inside with everyone elese it is totally open to the elements. there are worse and better places in laganus this one counts in bottom 5 for us. wouldnt go again.

BIT OF A DISASTER REALLY - MY GIRLFRIEND IS VEGETARIAN AND WITHIN MINUTES OF ORDERING THE WAITER HAD PLONKED A MEAT DISH (EVEN THOUGH THE DISH APPEARED IN THE VEGETARIAN CHOICES) RIGHT UNDER HER NOSE THINGS WENT RAPIDLY DOWNHILL ! NO SOUR CREAM FOR POTATO SKINS PROVIDED EVEN THOUGH WHEN ORDERING THE WAITER WAS ADAMANT THAT THEY HAD IT AND MOST OF THE STUFF ON MY FISH PLATTER WAS LUKE WARM ! THE PLACE IS JUST TOO BIG AND THE QUALITY OF FOOD SUFFERS SOMEWHAT BECAUSE OF THIS. FORTUNATELY THIS WAS OUR ONE AND ONLY POOR MEAL DURING OUR 2 WEEK STAY IN LAGANAS. I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO FRIENDS !

Went in august, very busy every night. Food was was very nice. went three times in two weeks. OK if you are in no rush for your dinner. idea for three courses spread over a couple of hours. maybe have a biased becuase i asked my girlfriend to marry me here.

I went to the Ionian Sea with my wife and 2 daughters, we ordered, it took a long time just to get our drinks, our main order took about 1 1/4 hours, it turned up cold, part of my daughters meal was uncooked,When I complained the young waiter said it was the chef, he had had a lot of complaints.I said I did not want the food, he took it away. I asked to see the manager, he told me I would still have to pay he was not worried and said they were very busy I saw a lot of food left on plates on tables around me. MY ADVICE AVOID AT ALL COST.

Having read the comments I am astounded. The food was absolutely brilliant, by far and away the best we had on the island. It was so good we went back 3 times. Service was a bit rushed as they were ALWAYS busy (which tells you quite a lot about the food straight away) but always polite and attentive. This not a fast food joint so don't expect the food 3 seconds after ordering it, but we never waited too long. Go there and decide for yourselves, you wont be dissappointed I am sure

Definitely THE WORST restaurant me and my girlfriend Janella went to on our 2 weeks in Lagana. Service was dreadful, really rude waiters........it summed it up when the guy who took us to our table was moaning that the place was more like a factory not a restaurant!!! The food was below average to say the least and after waiting so long, our main meal came just as we finished our starter and the dirty plates were left there. Do no, i repeat, do not go to this restaurant!!!!

I spent last week in Laganas...a last minute booking. The Ionian was by far one of the best tavernas / restaurants that we visited. The waiters are rushed off their feet, true. If the place wasn't any good, why are all the tables full every night at 8:30pm!??

I was with Michelle (my girlfriend) and I have to say the place is disgraceful! Food is OK but the waiters are terrible. They are rushed off their feet I have to give them that, but they just dont give a damn about service. Michelle didnt add the fact that when they brought the main meal without taking the dirty plates from the starters, they all handed the plates to us to place on the table ourselves. I found that really rude. Not worth the wait at all, go elsewhere.

Although the food here was pretty good the service was terrible. We went to the restaurant twice. The first time it took ages to be served. We were in a rush so we kept having to wave about to get any sort of attention. We gave the restaurant a second chance but it was even worse. We were rushed in there. We waited for 20 mins to even get a drink. When the waiter eventually came to take our order he was shouting across at other waiters to sort out other tables, and he was trying to rush us when he was taking our order. I found this very rude especially when he managed to get half the order wrong and not even apologise. We had just finished our starter when the waiters started bringing up the main course without even taking the dirty plates. Some girls next to us waited an hour and a half for their food! To top it all off we were rushed out in order for someone else to take our table. The restaurant seems to be more concerned with getting bums on seats than it is providing a service. Wouldn't recommend going unless you have four hours to spare!

After just reading all the comments about the Ionian I can not believe the bad comments it has recieved, after spending 5 concecutive holidays for 14 nights each time in Laganas, my wife and I always visit the Ionian, at least twice per holiday, I can say that we have not had a bad meal or incured bad service. Once me and my wife sat down for a meal when 10 young men came and sat down at the side of us, the head waiter asked if we would like to move to another table due to them all wanting to be sat together, I said I did not mind if they did not mind sitting next to us. As we were old enough to be there parents. They all ordered a starter, main & dessert all of this was eaten, they were given the bill of which they all chipped in and also for huge amounts of Mythos & Amstel bottled beer, they piled the money on the table shook hands with the waiters thanked them for a very good meal and evening and bid them my wife and I a very good night. The story is that these young lads had the good stature and manners on how to behave in a foreign country and not be brass and pushy and think that everything is for the British It made me feel proud to be English. After this saga this resturant can not be as bad as some of the comments made. I am going again to lagana and will vist the Ionia like I always do and will continue to do so each time I vist this island.

6 OF US WENT - SHUD HAVE BOOKED A WEEK IN ADVANCE COZ THAT'S HOW LONG IT SEEMED FOR THE FOOD (WHICH WASN'T WORTH WAITING FOR) TO ARRIVE. ONLY ABOUT 3 WAITERS ON AND 1 BOSS (WHO MADE SURE EVERYONE KNEW IT). BY FAR OUR WORST EATING EXPERIENCE ON THIS TRIP!

we ate here 4 times dont expect quick service but the food is nice also they have a playpark for the kids

We ate here 3 times in 2 weeks. It was really nice with a great selection of food. I had different dishes each time and found all of them delicious. My husband had ham & pineapple pizza each time and he say's it's the best he's ever had! I can thoroughly reccomend Beef Stifado!

we saw the restuarant as we arrived on the coach it was by far the most impreesive looking place in Laganas the food was superb the service was good and it was very cheap .Myself ,my wife and son had three courses for about £18 SO THAT WAS EXCELLENT VALUE TO EAT IN SUCH LOVELY SURROUNDINGS

If I had the choice I wish that we never went in this place it looked nice because it was always full. It took ages for the food to come i had ordered Chicken Curry but when it came out it was just a rubber chicken breast with a little sauce poured on it. The other half ordered BBQ chicken and it was chicken breast with BBQ sauce poured over it. Hate it! Stay away!

The service may have been slow but that was just because the restaurant was always full of people...I've been working at a restaurant and I know how it is...I'm impressed of their work...The food was good!!

We were fed the "bonnie Scottish lasses" line and fell for it too! We both ordered Greek salad which took an age to come but was fine once we got it. We were also made to feel uncomfortable at the fact that that was all we ordered! Nice setting but wouldn't rush back.

We ate at this restaurant as it looked nice from outside there was 12 of us and they were happy to do seperate bills. When the waiter was taking our order he was not really paying attention, he was sitting other people down and talking to other waiters so we had to keep repeating ourselves which was very rude. The food took ages to be prepared we were so bored waiting that I didn't even fancy it once it came out, I couldn't even be bothered with dessert. The sooner I got out of there the better.

We must have been in a different restaurant! The waiters were fine, the food was good, the price was excellent, we werent hassled at all anytime we walked past, and we sat at our table for 20 minutes after the end of our meal without being made to feel as if we had to leave.

My friend and I ate in the Ionian twice during our weeks stay. I can't believe all the negative comments. The service was speedy, the staff very pleasant and we went there of our own accord without being dragged in!

We went here on our first night because it looked pretty busy. After being fed chat up lines and having my hair felt by the chap at the front, we were eventually taken to a table. Despite the slimy start the meal and service were okay but we spent the rest of the holiday walking on the other side of the road to avoid Mr Sleaze.

Have to agree with some of you, the service was a little slow but Yvonne Owen, who passed comment on 8/1/2001. If you want a prawn jacket potato and to be spoken to in English maybe you should stay in England. How very arrogant to expect Greeks in thier own country to speak your langauge.

The Ionian Sea Restaurant on the corner of Kalamaki road, looked very nice but, the waiters spoilt the evening meal, they were very rude and did not make us feel welcome at all, the food wasn't bad but could not truly recomend the place at all.

WHEN WE GO ON TRIPS WE HAVE TO WAIT AT IONIAN CORNNER never ever go to ionian sea WE HAD TO ASK 4 TIMES FOR DRINKS never ever have there vegtable soup un less u like horriable soup.

GREAT IF YOU LIKE TO FIND A HAIR IN YOUR FOOD - EVEN BETTER, IF YOU LIKE WAITERS WHO DON'T CARE WHEN YOU TELL THEM. The kids portions were very poor and the service was slow. MY FRIEND DEBBIE WOULDN'T GO AGAIN EVEN IF YOU PAID HER!!!!!

Food was OK but slow service, once you have eaten they can't wait to get you out. Plus they will tell you anything to get you in or that slimeball front man will!

anyone who didn't like The Ionian Sea must have been there on a bad day - yours not their's!!!! The head waiter is very charming to "bonnie lassies" so maybe you're the wrong nationality

Must disagree with other comments so far. Found the food, service and price very agreeable on the 2 occasions we ate there.

The Ionian Sea we thought was okay. It was always heaving so I suppose if it's personal service you're after don't bother going. We went a couple of nights as the food was really nice although sometimes you had to wait a while for service as it was so busy. The portions weren't huge but just enough in the heat!

Have to agree with everbody else - we were a party of 25 (9kids 16 adults) our daughters birthday - waiter would not do separate bills for each family told us we would have to sort it out ourselves at the end!! Thought us customers were always right - so much for that! Also playground for children no so good - our granddaughter caught her foot under the roundabout and hurt her ankle - not badly but had to carry her back to apartment.

Chicken fillet very salty, portion small and the service is very slow.

Bland. Boring. No atmosphere. You've got to try it on your first night, after that everywhere else will seem great!

Food was ok but there wasn't much of it!

sausage and chips for a starter was not what I expected from somewhere which looked nice. Although we were later warned to keep away from the "bigger, nice" looking places. Waiters dropping trays of food everywhere, then not clearing away al the broken glass!!!

The waiters are so rude. They haven't got any patients and they will bribe you to go in and sit down by telling you to have something that isn't even on the menu. I was not impressed at all. BLOODY KING PRAWNS!!

Dont bother, the waiters are rude,cant speak english!!! Dont know what a prawn Jacket potato is!!!!!!!
