Had a lovely holiday here during the first 2 weeks in June. The hotel is very clean, and the location is good - the fact it is set back from the main road means that the street noise is not a problem. Reception staff were all very nice and helpful.
Air conditioning doesn't get switched on until late July / August and the hotel doesn't hire out fans. We bought a fan from the Best Supermarket for 20 euros and used that each night for our 2 weeks.
You have to pay extra to hire the safety deposit box and also 25 euros to hire the fridge for 2 weeks. -Tip- the fridge cupboard has a key and a shelf where you can lock your valuables rather than pay for a safe as well.
Breakfasts were good - good choice of hot and cold food which was all self service.
The resort was quiet in early June, some hotels had still to open even, and the Palmyra was probably just over half full. This meant that very few people stayed poolside during the day - meant you get the pool to yourself though! but most people went down to the beach where there are some great beach bars - we used Dimetrious which was great
Also hardly saw anyone using the bar in the evenings as it was so quiet, therefore no atmosphere.
All in all a good base to stay - would recommend it.
Just had our first Holidat together at the Hotel and loved every second of it. The Hotel was great, the pool was good and the bar was brilliant. We ate out every night around Argassi and loved the food and the cocktails.
My good friend Kerry and I have just returned from a week in Zante and stayed at the Palmyra Hotel - I agree with the recent comments, it was an outstanding hotel and the bar staff were cracking!!!! (and not half good looking ;o) I would sincerely recommend it to anyone visting Zante.
My friends and I just got back from Zante and loved every minute of it!! Even though we didn't stay at the Palmyra we did have drinks there every night and the staff are amazing, Nick Mike and Jesse!! Mike loves the Scots "where the grass is green". The food was great, Nick is also the chef. I don't think this place is praised enough it should definately be put on the map!! If you are going to Argassi you should visit the Palmyra and ask for a flaming lamborghini!
Guys this is such a good place. And so under rated on this website!! You should put the bar on the bars/clubs bit. Anyway we didnt stay at the hotel either but the bar was so good. Really cheap prices and the most amazing staff ever. everyone has to try a flaming lambergini - lethal!! Mikey is so cool. Everyone visit this bar, put the place on the map!! c'mon the scots!! xxxx
............ We would have liked clean towels daily, sheets and towels were not changed the week were there. The floor was swept twice. The staff were misserable, But the pool bar staff were lovely Angela and Ria.. The beach was full of rubbish and ciggarette ends. Do not buy from pothos gold as the stones in the jewellery are not as they say. the Piccadily and the Big Plate Taverna's were first class for food and service. People there and home have said they would not visit Zante again. The wreck on Smugglers Cove, well you get covered in oil on the beach, but could be a nice beach without the wreck. Nice walk up to the bar at the top of mountain behind the hotel and really cheap. They have Greek nights Thurs and Sat, with free transport. Hotel staff can arrange transport. A week is long enough in Zante..
We stayed at the Palmyra between 18th & 26th September 2005. The hotel was excellent! It was clean, tidy and the grounds were kept the same. The room was clean, modern with Sky TV and a shower curtain (which is very rare in Greek Islands!). Location is perfect as it is set back off the main road in Argassi, but only 2 minute walk to all the pubs and restaurants. The beach is only a 5minute walk with restaurants and bars on the seafront. Variety of watersports to choose from as well. The hotel reception staff were quite miserable, however, this didnt matter as the staff in the Pool bar were outstanding! We were made to feel very welcome, the food was good and the service always came with a smile. We made some really good friends here! The pool bar offers all types of drinks, as well as a pool table, darts board, and 3 games machines. Excellent place for couples, not many children which was good for us! We cannot fault this hotel in the slightest! Be sure to introduce yourselves to the 2 Yanni's, Ria & Angela! They will make your holiday! 10/10 all round!
Just arrived back from Argassi and the Palmyira hotel. The Hotel is clean and obviously recently modernised. Pool area and bar is very good remembering it is a family hotel and there usually are noisy kids about. Points to check before you go. Try to get a Pool facing room - there is a construction site facing the front of the hotel which is noisy in the mornings. Make sure your booking INCLUDES your FRIDGE and AIR CONDITIONING for your room - You will have to pay extra if you dont. Lastly, if you are a light sleeper, take ear plugs - the entire hotel is lined with marble which means every person walking down the corridors can be heard clearly, especially ladies shoes, drunken party goers and shouting kids. Other than those things we had a great time!!
Oh yes, unless your skint, look beyond the immediate restaurants in the resort - the quality of food increases massively for only a little extra cash just outside. my favourite was a beachside place as you enter Argassi from Zante town - find a ex-pat working in the resort and ask them where they or the Greeks eat!! enjoy
Just got back after 2 lovely weeks at the Palymra. Great hotel - you couldn't fault it. The only possible complaint you could have would be that the pool is open to non-residents - but there were always enough sunbeds. The hotel has been refurbished this year and is one of the best we have stayed at on the Greek Islands. Rooms are air-conditioned in July & August and the breakfasts are good. The hotel is ideally situated just off the main street, but is still quiet in the evening.
The brand new pool bar & restaurant run by Nikos (& Spiros) serves the best food in Argassi - they are both really helpful & friendly.
Got back from Zante on 29th June, 2nd year we have been there, loved it yet again, shame Babara has gone, but the new guys are very freindly, reception staff are a bit miserable but apart from that the hotel is fantastic!!!!!!!
Just come back from a week at the Palmyra Hotel. Very impressed with the hotel, very clean and comfortable. Newly refurbed. Would only say that we didn't find the staff particuarly welcoming, in fact they were quite miserable! Pool was very good, although it is open to non residents which means that the locals use the pool - ok apart from Greek Men leering at the topless girls sunbathing! (but I don't mind that!) Breakfast was very good, lots of choice and freshly prepared.
Very close to restaurants and bars with a wide range of choice.
Just got back from a week in zante, stayed at the palmyra. Found it very basic but pleasant. Staff r very friendly, will learn yr room number and drinks order very quickly!! Pool is nice, no mad rush for sunbeds. Pool bar was good any time of the day.
Enjoyable stay at the hotel. Positives - the sausages at breakfast were bootiful, the staff at the pool bar were v.friendly, rooms basic but cleaned daily, location v.central for eating out in Argassi, even though not strictly allowed the toilets handled the flushing of loo paper !!. Negatives - heat wave (even for Greece) while we were there but unfortunately owner wouldnt put on air conditioning without receiving extra payment of approx 40 Euros for a fortnight - bit mean. Believe the air conditioning is put on July onwards though for those going later in the year. No entertainment in the evening, looked on enviously as other hotels held toga parties etc but not here.
