Brilliant place to go, as for comment below on Dennis Apartments we stayed there in May this year and lots of people were moaning and being moved - won't stay there again.  Lots of other places looked better and will try somewhere else next year.  Will definately go back to Alikanas or Alikes.

Jess B

if anybody is goin 2 zante this year you will love it!! me and my family have been 13 times and are going again in august! quiet and peaceful! loads of bars and restaurants!the people are REALLY friendly and we have lots of friends out there!defo go to alikanas beach apart/hotel and speak to nick! he'll make you really welcome!! beaches are lovely..not far from anywhere! golden sands, clear water!! beautiful place!!defo a hit!!!!

Rachel N

The beach is absolutely beautiful. The sea is a very clear blue and the little silver/white fish swim around you when you walk into the sea. My favourite part of sunbathing on the beach is the Greek lady that sells the most freshest fruit salad. Although don't buy it from the group of youger boys/men as it isn't very fresh!

To Sarah Hendrie.

 Hi Sarah.
We stayed  at the Dennis Apartments in 2003/04 Although they are very basic we found them to be quite clean and adequate, The bathroom is a bit small & can get quite wet when showering(a tip: take a metal coathanger with you, there is a metal grill covering the window & we bend the hanger round & wrap it round the shower head leaving you with both hands free). My wife, her brother & partner have had brilliant hols in Alykanas, the Dennis are well situated not to far to walk to the centre & there is a nice 20min stroll to Alykes. Plenty of good restaurants. Busters bar just across from Dennis is a good night.
Hope you have a good holiday & look forward to your comments when you get back.

P.S. We are going again this year Sept 15th to 29th, if anybodys there at this time say hello will be in the Levante Bar(Greek owned) every night from about 10.30 drinking the best the Barcardi & cokes in town.

Wrote comment last year, check web site, wish to add can u help about dennis apartments

Steve S

Nigel, as for car hire, i think they are pretty much all the same but i did find what i think was the cheapest. Walk to alikes and turn left at the jungle bar, just on the right before the chinese restaurant is an english guy that rents cars. I can't remember his name but he has long hair, about 50ish and was very helpful.

Sarah H

Hi has anyone stayed at the Dennis I appts/studions on Alikanas? I am off there this summer and can't find anything on them. Thanks for your help. Have a good summer!

Nigel W

Just found this website. Like others, I'm off to the Eleni Apartments (in mid-June). No write-ups anywhere. What are they like? Looking for quiet. Is there a bakery nearby? Love buying fresh bread for breakfast. Also, which hire car company is recommended locally?

Mandy R

im staying at the apollo apartments which is the nearest beach, thanks

David

Laundry just down the road.......

Chris B

I'm staying at the Mouzakis studios and apartments in Alikanas for two weeks in August. Does anyone know if these apartments have a laundry/launderette facility, or if there is anything available nearby?

Sonia

Sorry, forgot to mention the beach.   it's golden sand and the sea is shallow for a fair way out.  If you do decide to go, you'll love the place.

Sonia

I'm staying in Eleni Apartments beginning of June, I'll let you know on my return if it's not too late.

Hazel C

Thinking of staying in Eleni aprtments in Alikanas, has anyone stayed there? If so what is the accommodation like and the beach? Thanks.

While im on here, just thought id say hello to all my friends in Alikanas. The guys from Zanziba, Yannis, Nikos, Sakis. How are you all? Havent spoken to anyone for ages! Well done on youre Euro win-was in Malia, Crete at the time and did think of you all. Still friends with Eva and Dave and we're all talking about coming back to see you at some point this year. Hope you're all ok and will speak to you soon. Claire says hi! Love Katie xxx

Katie G

Hi Gemma
I stayed at the Beach Village which im sure part of the same complex as where you're staying. Its a lovely part of Alikanas to stay in and is right by the beach (hence the name!). Had a great time there. The resort itself isn't exactly lively, if you want that you're best off having a night out in Laganas which is more like your 18-30 resort. We spent most of our time in Zanziba which is really good fun and the staff are lovely and you'll leave there feeling like you've known them forever! Flame bar and Cuba are quite lively too. The best restaurant to eat at was Dionisos as the family that own it treat you very well and the food is lovely. If you want to go shopping they do day trips to Zante Town which is really nice aswell. Its a really nice resort for couples so you should have a really good holiday. Enjoy it!

Karen K

We are a family of 5,aged 2-42 and we will be staying at the andonis appartments. There's not much about these appts so if any body has any info on them that would be great. Also any other info you think will be usefull will be brilliant.
Thanks very much
Karen

Gemma

My boyfriend and I are booked up to stay at the Alykanas Beach Studios in July 2005. Has anyone stayed there? If so, whats it like? We are in our early 20's. Where's the best bars and restaurants to go to?

Gemma xx

Tracy

Very nice beach. The sea is clear and you can walk out for ages before getting out of your depth. Safe for children. 5 euros for 2 sunbeds & parasol.

John H

WANT TO RETURN TO ZANTE NEXT YEAR BUT WOULD LIKE TO STAY IN KERRI HAS ANYONE GOT ANY DETAILS ON Apts OR HOTELS LOCALY

John H

My family has just returned from 2 weeks in alikanas and I can only describe it as fantastic We could not find anything bad about the place it was extremely clean the beach was magic (VERY SAFE FOR SMALL CHILDREN) and the bars and restaurants were fantastic value, most had a free horse carriage to and from the hotel hire a car if you can you see so much more and if you want to go on a day trip see CHRIS next door to the GREEDY GREEK

Holly J

i had a wonderful holiday here at zakynthos . i had a lovely appartment named beach vilage . me and my brother loved the kids club we went every day and did not miss one session . lisa and hannah the reps are great fun you want to meet them !

i am sure i will come back
love holly xx

Tracey P

Alikanas beach was excellent for children particularly safe swimming in the shallow clear sea. However, the only downside was the beach was littered with cigarette buts and could do with being raked on a regular basis.

Viv G

We spent quite a lot of time on the beach, just opposite the Valais. The sunbeds were 2 euros dearer but that stretch of beach was so neatly groomed and cleaned every day I used to feel guilty about churning up the sand! The sea is great for swimmers and the less confident. It is possible to walk right along the beach till you see a sign pointing to Alykes. If you wlk up the track it leads you to the bridge across the river. It's a very pretty walk and musch more pleasant than walking along the road. Alikanas beach is one of the best we've found. What exactly does "posing potential" mean?

Kathy H

An excellent beach, we've been 12 times and our kids love it. It's very safe to swim in the sea both for adults and kids as you can go out a long way before it gets too deep. The best sandy beach we've been to. Can't wait to get back next year!!

Rachel T

The beach was lovley but when we stood into the sea all fish would swim after you and be warned do not run or they will chase after you.So if you have young children I would look for somewhere else!!!

Wilson A

We stayed at the Grape Vines Apartments in June 2004 and walked to the Redskin beach most days. The Redskin bar is excellent iced glasses and the snacks are good value for money. The beach is safe for even the youngest of children. Anne and Colin

Jan C

the beach is great ideal for kids , you dont need eyes in the back of your head as its not over crowded.
you have to try snorkelling the fish will feed from your hands if you have a lttle piece of bread with you , my youngest learned to swim while he was there we loved it

Went to Alikanas in late eighties, went to Mantelenas nearly every night free shot of ouzo from Tassos started the evenings well.

Went to shoe strings bar overlooking a small beach. my wife loved his yoghurt suprise, hoped to go back some day with our son, stayed at the Valais on the beach before the harbour was built.
fromthe comments sound slike a great place to chill

Ric N

Hi Just got back and had a great time. If you want to get away from it all and fancy a bit of a stroll then ignore the town beach and head towards the lemon tree restraurant.Go past this excellent bar for about 100m look out for the signs on the left hand side that point you in the in the direction of Redskins bar.....keep walking and you will come to a quiet little beach with about 30 sunbeds on it @5 euro for the whole day. This will be collected by a little old greek chap who is very gratful. On this beach is a little cafe .."Shoestrings" We tought we would give it a try and ended up going back everyday to work our way through the menu..top stuff !!

Katie nd lauren !

Carolyn B

We stayed at the Letsos Aparthotel, basic but very clean accomodation. The owner and his family were absolutely superb, they owned the shop next door and the supermarket. Unlike other hotels weve stayed at they allowed you to eat and drink your own food by the pool. I loved this hotel and cant wait to go back. Try eating at Dino's Yum!Yum! Aphrodite is lovely too, the pie shack looks drab but the food is brilliant and if you eat at certain restraunts you can be collected by horse and carriage. Look out for the hitch if you dont eat at one of the restraunts and want a ride ask the price first we had a five min ride and paid 15 euro. Dont get caught out by the trips your operator offers use Dino's travel in town they are great and half the price of the tour operator, and dont believe your operator this company is fully insured and to the standard your tour operator is. Go to the wreck and by speed boat form Alikes bit more money but if you see the state of some of the people who come on the big boats you will know why. Do the half day as the full day will make you and the kids sick we did both and will never do the full trip again its over 8 hours, half day 3.5, just right. Turtle trip use dino's again they support the study of turtles so you dont put them in distress. Zakynthos town is beautiful we normally go in August as they have st denni's day the patriot saint, hes been dead over 300 years but they bring his body out to celebrate on the Sunday nearest the end of the month and the whole island street parties. Superb place could not fault it, soon to be buying our own apartment out there!!! Yee!!!!!!

Jess B

Lauren n Katie im sure i seen ya there...so wen ya get bk reply 2 this plz...did u meet sum1 called Romao there?plz rite bk soon

Tina K

I am not much of a beach person and I didn't spend much time there but it seemed a perfectly nice beach to me, quite big and sandy and the water is crystal clear. The water only goes up to your knees for the first 15 meters or so. I imagine this would be good for kids and the parents don't need to worry as much.

We are going to Bitzaro Grande Hotel in Kalamaki in May- are there any cash machines to draw out Euros? or can one go to a bank and draw out cash on i.e. barclaycard?
We have been to Zakynthos 6 years ago, have prices increased a lot?

Rachel M

Kerry M

we have just got back last night from Danny's at alikanas, our first time to zante. The apartments were basic but clean and the complex well cared for. We can be fussy, but we had not complaints at all, after all we were in a greek island and not some fancy cosmo city. It was beautiful, the beaches were lovely and the view breathtaking. Meals out were excellent value for money and we recommend Calamionas on the beach for breakfast and a smile! Our favourite bar was Catacomes and its owner Dennis who makes the best cocktails! We would definitely go back and would stay at Danny's again.

Richard S

I am going to Alikanas to stay at the Dragonikos studios/appartments on October 21st for one week, anyone tell me what the place is like and what can i expect from the weather? or the mosquitos?! - i am after something very quiet as it is a break "to sort my head out" rather than a mad holiday!-any information would be helpful. -Thanks.

Elaine S

After going to Kefalonia the previous year and not liking it .I was dubious about going to Zante but i was pleasantly surprised.
The hospitality and friendliness of the local people was outstanding we stayed at the MOUSAKIS APARTMENTS booked by KOSAMAR and we would recommend it to anyone.

Ali W

I returned to London from Alikanas last night and will be going to the Travel Agents to book my holiday for next year ASAP!. I stayed at the Litsa Studios owned by Dionysis and Ourania. I was so impressed because the studios were so clean and I was looked after so well. Each night I ate at La Caretta which is almost opposite the Greedy Greek; if you haven't eaten there you dont know what you've missed; Yianni the chief waiter is brilliant!!!!

Jackie C

Spent an excellent week at the Alikanas beach studios, everything about the place is first class. Location was excellent right on the beach and the staff were the best. Would definately go back to the complex again, Alikanas and nearby Alikes were clean tidy and not built up

Sue & Ron

We went to Alikanas for two weeks in August and stayed at Danny's. The weather was scorching and the beaches and sea were wonderful. The food is not as cheap as we expected but the Lemon Tree is a must if you are going to Alikanas. Danny's apartments were okay and Averil and David's brekkies were pretty good too. The train ride is good value at 10 euros for an adult. Busters bar has entertainment on each night with prizes to be won. Overall good holiday and would go back!

Mark B

THE BEACH IS GREAT FOR KIDS.LUKE IS 8 AND LAURA IS 4.
HAD NO PROBLEMS ON THE BEACH AT ALL.

Andrew C

This beach was brilliant, had lunch every day from Costa's, as we were staying next door. The Kids could go out for up to 100m, never got them out of the sea.

Lorn R

Hi all

I am travelling to Alikanas with my mum and my 12 year old son, it is his first trip abroard... Can anyone advise me about the Hotel Valais and the potential weather during Mid Sept ?

ALso I am thinking about a night stop over in Athens, has anyone done this or does anyone know a good agent I could go to in the town...

Finally if anyone else is going around that time with a child around the same age maybe we could hook up...

Any help would be appreciated guys...

Emily T

the beach at alikinas was about 15 minutes from where we were staying. the water was lovely, cold in some parts and like bath water in others!!The swimming was very safe, it didn't get very deep for a long way out and there are plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas that you pay to have for the day!

Julia B

Alikanas and Alykes mean only one thing, Costa's Beach Bar. Situated at the bridge between the two resorts, this is the perfect place to spend your holiday. Lovely beach, safe and clean swimming as well as food and drink served with a smile. Just great.

Cash machines - definately 2 in Alykes, one just a couple of minutes walk over the bridge and one at Montes, Alikanas - one at the supermarket, though there could be more!

Enjoy you holiday.

Wendy W

We went to Marinos appartments but can't find them in any brochure, anyone who knows please tell

Keith D

Hi We are going to Alikanas this year and would like to know what the Beach is like and are the any cash tills in the resort.

Thanks

Allison W

Andy & I, plus our 2 boys aged 7 and 4 have recently returned from a wonderful holiday at the Alikanas Beach Village Hotel. We paid for air conditioning in our apartment - which we felt was essential in high 30's temperatures. The Beach is wonderful - literally on the doorstep of the Hotel. Good places to eat (especially with children) were the Dionisos (had a little kiddies play area), with both traditional Greek and some English dishes - the Lamb Kleftico is wonderful, the Lemon Tree, little further out of the main street - beautiful food, and a wonderful Fish Resturant at the end of the Beach, just set off the road. Most Restaurants had FREE Horse and Cart rides to and from the Hotel - but it is only a 10/15 minute walk.
If you are missing the bacon sarnies - tucked away just over the road from the Alakanas Beach Hotel is a place called 'The cosy Corner' - run by folks that come from the same town as ourselves, and do the most wonderful Bacon & eggs, sausage & egg, etc - well worth a visit.
Trips enjoyed were a Train Ride up through Alikes and a further village with a museum and lovely Greek Orthodox Church, included a short stay at a Taverna, where you could buy the previous harvest of local wine (we bought a lot !), and the first pressed virgin olive oil - wonderful. Also trip to the keri Caves, where we all swam from the boat to the beach !
Overall, a wonderful place, with extremely friendly people, and beautiful scenery - I would recommend it.

Katie G

My friend Claire and I have just returned from Alikanas and loved it so much that we are going back in 2 weeks to spend the summer there. Our favourite place to eat was the restaurant Dionisos where the food was fantastic and the people were lovely. The restaurant suited us because it offers a wide range of both Greek and English meals. The nightlife isnt 'heaving' but a great bar to go to is Zanziba! The atmosphere in Zanziba is fun and friendly! We thought that the prices in Alikanas were really reasonable! Overall, we had a fantastic holiday and we are now counting the days till we return!!! Katie Gritt and Claire Ward (London)

Emma P

Have just returned from the Alikanas Beach Studios. Alikanas was lovely, although more touristy than we were expecting. The restaurants were OK although overpriced - if you want something more traditional then walk up the hill into old Alikanas. It only takes 15 minutes and had many cheaper and more traditional tavernas.

Suzanne T

My partner and I went to Alikanas in May and had booked into the Alikanas Beach Studio apartments but when we arrived the extension was not quite finished so we were moved next door into Alikanas Beach Studio Village. We had a fantastic time, beautiful unspoiled area, very friendly people, extremely clean area and most of all relaxing. Certainly not suitable if you wanted clubbing because there wasn't even one! We relaxed totally and made friends with the locals. Very nice holiday - so good we are booking up for next year.

Vicky B

I went to Alikanas september 2002, It was very quiet with not much to do, unless you liked sitting in pubs all day, i think it's probably the ideal holiday destination for children, or people who just want to get away to relax. I stayed in the dennis apartments which were very satisfactory, the were spacious and clean, although the noise from the taverna next door could get a bit much at times. i did enjoy my stay there it just wasn't lively enough for me, but i have no complaints about the place in general.

Paul D

Re Villa Thea. Stayed there in June. It is 2 minute walk from the beach, very quiet. Beach quite small but pleasant and covered in overpriced sun beds. Good for kids as shallow and gently shelving. Beware hot water and tap in bathroom scalding hot. Two local restaurants not bad. local shop expensive. Recommend car hire or you will be a bit stuck and can save fortune on shopping. Take mosquitoes repellent or even net!!

Joanne S

My husband, 10 year old son and I are staying at the newish Alikanas Beach studios this year. Can anyone comment and where are the best eating places?

Jay H

we went last year and we loved it,so we are going again this year {6th july } great beach and fab weather super ....

Bev H

We are going to Alikanas again in july, our 4th visit. Its a great friendly place, where the people make you welcome. Great bars, restuarants, beaches and pools. Can't wait.

Ann W

soz! forgot to put my ratings, for Laganas tho, have only seen Alykanas from up in the hills, but it looked FAB!

Ann W

Hi Raj, I'm thinking of going to alikanas in2004 with my hubby and kids. We have been to Laganas twice, there is great nightlife, mainly along the main street, and as for it not being very greek, you dont have to go far for that. Laganas is Lovely, You might prefer Kalamaki, the best of both worlds, just down the beach from Laganas, a lot quiter, but still in easy reach of the nightlife by taxi.
Hope you enjoy it as much as we did, once you been to Zakynthos, you will want to go back, its a beautiful island.

Lynda C

We stayed in Alikanas Summer 2002. The beach is good, sandy and safe.We stayed above the Greedy Greek Taverna. We only ate there once...nothing special. The Chinese round the corner was the worst place that we ate. Yuk. The place across the road, I forget its name. Its a bar , next door to the supermarket on the road leading down to the beach, does a superb English Breakfast. We even got black pudding.
Alikanas is a good place to holiday. Only small. Not party animals. Just for those who enjoy Greek countryside and hospitality.
