Hi, I am heading to Zante with my sister on the 1st May and was wondering what the good pubs, restaurants and sights are? We are staying in Kalamaki but hoping to spend some time in Laganas.

Dave C

Bernie M

Going over in May, I'm wondering if the nights are warm then, and would it be necessary to bring a jacket, Are the mossies around then also........Thanks

Vanessa M

ZANTE LEWIS

Went to Laganas last year cost us £117 off of teletext! Absolutely brilliant.
Booked another for May this year going All Inclusive for total £319

Zante L

yes my real name is zante, my dad got it from a Edgar Allan Poe poem 'To Zante'. I need to know how much it would cost to stay on Zante for a week in may of 2003. None of the airlines online will give me an answer.

Kb

THE TAXIS ARE FINE,SAFE AND CHEAP. THE DRIVERS ARE FRIENDLY, HOWEVER SOME TRY TO GET AWAY WITH HIGH FARES. HERES A TIP, ASK HOW MUCH THE FARE WILL BE BEFORE YOU GET IN AND THATS IT SORTED. TO GET A TAXI, ALL YOU DO IS GO TO THE TAXI PORT ON THE CORNER ACROSS FROM POPEYES.

Tracey D

Any info on May you can e-mail me on tdavies@mazak.co.uk

Tracey D

We are travelling to Zante next May - what are the taxis like? Are they plentiful of a night time (ie after midnight - can't seem to walk after a few beers!!) Thanks

John N

went 10 to 24 may well into 80s for 5 or 6 days running but had a mother of all thunderstorms one morning, then on the beach an hour later, great time to go,no idiots and no germans that i could think of,still got a mauling from the mozzies so buy some autan which is far cheaper in tsilivi than it is in boots or superdrug as are the liquid plugin mozzie zappers(£7.75 in boots about £3 there.

Vicky S

Went the last week in May (26th-3rd) the weather was hot, hot, hot and kept getting hotter.Cool breeze and the sea was warm couldn't ask for more!

David C

Got back to UK on 26th May after spending a fortnight here. Second year running been in May. Definately the best time of year to go. Not to crowded, weather still hot enough. Roll on 2003.

Anne-marie J

Just got back and it was HOT, lots and lots of mozzies though, weather was really fab and we are going back at the same time next year.

Alana A

Not too hot, and not too cold and also not yet over-croaded.

Michelle G

great time of year to go saw a few turtle in the sea come back with great tan

Richard G

GENERAL COMMENTS:- - Rained one morning but didn't drop below 25 the rest of the fortnight. - The Greeks were extremely friendly and helpful. - Argassi beach isn't upto much but there are some excellent pool bars by the sea. - 24 Hours (opposite Castaways restaurant)is an excellent snack bar. Go in and say Yassoo to Ilya the owner. - Loads of restaurants and bars, we stayed out of the ones which tried to drag you in! If eating out try "Stars" - "Enigma" - "Piccadilly" - "Castaways". - When you first arrive at Argassi you may feel you arrived with a clean up crew at ground zero, there is not a great deal to doin the resort during the day but the night life is very good. More for families than singles. ** TAKE AN OLD PAIR OF SHOES/TRAINERS FOR GENERAL WEAR **

Sarah H

Went on 9th May, fantastic place, weather gorgeous and not too overcrowded. Hope to return.

Diane R

Went the 12th of May 2002, Had an excellent time and the weather was fantastic, would go back again the same time before the weather gets too hot and too crowed with people.

Gemma M

David

Shaz You are right, it would be too small.

Shaz S

John B

for cal smith. shuold be turtles all thru may. Last time I was there, you could hire boats from the beach, per hour or all day.

Cal S

We are going to Laganas very early May will we be seeing any turtles with it being early may?...also is there anywhere that we can hire a small boat and go off on our own for a day??.....I would be very grateful for any answers recieved

Big B

Jayne There is a hotel down in Vassilikos that has a form of a waterpark (a very little one!). Look for courtesy buses marked "Water Mania". NB:It's worth noting that the drinks are quite expensive though. There was a rumour of one being built around Laganas & why not indeed, I think it would be an excellent idea.

Jacky C

HAS ANYONE BEEN TO CARETTA BEACH SEIF CATERING APPARETMENTS IN KALAMAKI ZAKYNTHOS IF SO ARE THEY OK.

Jayne B

Could anyone please tell me if there is a waterpark in Zante and if so where is it.

Sue C

Last week in May was our favourite. we have been at the start of May but the evenings were windy and quite cold. A few mozzies about so take some repellant. A good restaurant is 'Koralli'. Go down the main road to the beach and turn right. it is the second one! In any restaurant have the locally prodiced wine and food (especcially 'village sausage' and any main course 'Zante style'.

David A

going on holiday last week in may are there many mossies insects about if so what is best to use.are the turtles on zante in may if not when are they.what sort of food can anyone recommend.

Suzanne H

We found the last two weeks of May were just right to be reasonably active - walking up Mount Skopos, cycling etc. For more details see: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/suzanne.halliday

Alix B

The weather is just right in May! Although we had a few cloudy days it was still really hot and you can tan easily! It is much more quiet here in may which is fine if you don't want a noisy holiday

Marilyn K

We went in may and the weather was excellent....plz put something on the website about GYROLAND cos the resturant was lovely and the staff excellent!!

Chris G

Got back on 28th May after a week in Tsilivi. Lovely resort and best time to visit...temperatures just right...agree with Ian, it was getting hotter towards the end of the week. Read more at: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/chris.gawley/zante.htm

Ian G

Last week in May. Weather glorious and even a bit too hot by the end. But on shore sea breezes help on the beach. Flowers are everywhere on the island. Watch out for the mosquitos!

Steve F

I have put we liked it as with a Family Trip of 21 of us we would be happy anywhere. But I feel a word of warning for anyone looking for the old TSILIVI or quite Greece THIS IS THE NEXT LAGANAS in the making. When you walk the street at night TO LOUD ENGLISH MUSIC/KARAOKE BOOMIMG out of the BARS I think it would be hard to disagree. I am sorry TSILIVI you will not be on my return list as STOUPA or GEORGEOPOLIS (Crete) are. IF you want what TSILIVI is becoming fair enough.

Simon W

I've been there throughout the whole season a couple of times and I agree with Big Brad and would add that August is extremely hot - in the 40s, not good for small children, and October can be very mixed weather, sometimes stormy and very cool in the evenings. Brad's right about the locals' reaction to the invasion - they enjoy us to start with, but can't wait to see the back of us by the end of the season. This applies even more to the reps. By late September their local romances have started to sour, reality is setting in, commissions are dwindling and they're fighting for places on the winter sun or snow programmes and the last person they want to see is yet another demanding "guest"!

Richard F

Great weather 1st 2 weeks May. Resorts are quiet until June - Brits only during May. Take advantage of cheaper car hire in May.

Matt D

The girlfriend and I will be arriving on 21st May, staying at Castelli appartments. Where is the most friendly bar, and do any of the clubs play any Trance. Whats the average age of you Zante punter?

Nick S

Hope u had a good 1 Linz. I'm goin 2moz and by the looks of it the weather is gettin hotter so should come back wiv a nice tan the same as last year.

Linzi M

Just got back and the weather was gorgeous apart from abit of rain and a couple of cloudy days.Definate bikini weather.

Rimmer

Caroline - Alexander is a good hotel in a great location at the end of the beach in Tsilivi. It is about 5 mins walk to the bus stop to get a bus into town. Weather is warm during the day, but still cool in the evening at that time.

Rimmer

Janet - Krinas apts are standard accommodation for Zakynthos, but you do have use of the pool at the hotel next door (Krinas Hotel). 2-3 mins walk to nearest bars / restaurants and 5-10 mins to centre and beach. Krinas is at the back of the resort and so is on a slight incline (slope) up from the resort, but nothing too serious.

Rimmer

Kaz & Gaz - Don't know about your apartments, but Agios Sostis is a quiet resort on a small beach. There are some pools in the hotels and plenty of restaurants to keep you going. A few bars, and no clubs.

Linda N

We are going on the 8th May to Tsilivi and we have been to Zante before to Porta Roma and we love the Island. Especially in May as it quiet and not so many people there and the people are so friendly. We hire a scooter and travel about alot going to different places and beaches etc. Well worth a visit!!!

Fernando A

Thank You Rimmer! Will follow your advice!

Rimmer

Julie - 20th May is a little early in the season, but Laganas should be really getting going by then. All 18-30 type tour companies are in Laganas so the bars should be busy. Laganas is one of the liveliest resorts in all of greece and compares well to Faliraki and other big Greek resorts. (i.e. plenty of bars and clubs open most of the night).

Rimmer

Fernando - Kalamaki has one of the best beaches on the island, and is also where the loggerhead turtles come to lay their eggs at night. Kalamaki also has the best selection of restaurants on the island, so shop around. Nightlife is a little quiet here, but there are one or two lively bars in resort to keep you going, and laganas is just 5 mins in a taxi down the road. If you are coming in May, don't pre-book car hire. You will have no problem getting a car, and at a far better price!

Rimmer

Kaz - All resorts have a good selection of restaurants, and most of these will do a childrens menu. There are also fast food places (burgers, pizzas etc.) so they should have plenty to choose from.

Julie D

Hi All. Me and the girls(geordie lasses) are hitting Zante on the 20th May with Club 18-30 staying in the Michalis appartments. First time ive been to Zante. Been to falaraki last year. What is the pub/club scene like??? We are party animals!!! Anyone in Zante when we are??

Fernando A

Hi Every One, My girlfriend & I are going to Kalamaki on the 3rd of May for 14 days. Could any one help with some info on the beaches to go,places to see, eat, drink & dance in Kalamaki and around the island? We are also thinking of getting a car...Is it cheaper to get one there or pre book it from the UK? Also has any one seen or have been to Souli Apartments/Studios? Is it any good? Cheers Fernando

Kaz R

i am giong to greece the end of may with my family which encludes my two children. they are both a bit fussy what they eat so i was wandering if the resturants did any english children meals.

Angie P

hi steven take english money and change it in greece get a better exchange rate. theres not many places except banks and supermarkets that take credit cards have a good holiday.

Stephen M

I'm going to Zante in May and was wondering do most restaurants/tavernas accept credit cards for payment of meals.

Linzi M

Cheers Nick, Have you ever been at the beginning of May and have you ever experienced rain in this time?

Nick S

I've been to Laganas for the last 2 years in may and im going again on the 15th. the weather is usually good and last year we only had 2 cloudy days. The best bars are probably cherry bay, the fishery inn, la bamba (if u like kareoke!) and the 2 best clubs are zeros and rescue. hope u enjoy your stay

Linzi M

For anyone who has been at the beginning of May before could you give me your expertise on Weather, Best bars/clubs and Must see's.

Sylvia D

We are going to Laganas for the first time 1st May for 2 weeks, will it be hot enough to get a good tan in this time and will we be able to see any Caretta Caretta turtles? Thanks. Sylvia Drake mygnomeland@hotmail.com

Emma C

im going on may the 15th can anyone tell me what the hotel panos is like and also how thw weather will be see you all there

Linzi M

Have you ever seen it rain in early May?, I'm told to expect some.

Rimmer

May is quite quiet in Kalamaki, but the nightlife in Laganas will just about be started and is just a 5 minute taxi ride away. May will be warm during the days and cool in the evenings, so bring a jumper or jacket if you like an evening stroll. Kalamaki has an excellent sandy beach and a very shallow sea, where you may spot the first caretta-caretta turtles in the evening. Kalamaki does have the best selection of restaurants on the island so don't be afraid to try a few different ones out!

Jessica K

Hi, We are taking our daughter to Zante in May. She's only 18 months old - I'd just like to hear from people who have taken little ones there on holiday to get a general idea of anything I should be cautious of or if anyone has got any recommendations let me know - we are going self catering. Thanks Jess

Frank B

Are there many fit birds to ogle? Only kidding!

Frank B

I haven't been yet, but after seeing the comments here, I rwally am looking forward to it. I'm going with my girlf and am looking forward to watch the sun set. Can you do this here?

Linzi M

See you there, there's 16 of us going 3rd May.

Nicky

I'm going to Laganas on the 6th May and was a bit worried that there would be no one there but have been told that it will be ok (I hope!)

Big B

We have been May June July & September. July as you all know is hot, very hot and May & September can be a hit or a miss. We went at the start of May last year & it was great. The weather was faultless and because things were generally quieter we took the opportunity to hire a car, which was great because there was no traffic and none of the August/September Italians tearing us up! The big difference in early May I guess is that the island is still blooming & colourful. In addition, the local people, although they are undoubtably wonderful people all year round, they haven't had 6 months of 16 hour days to contend with so they are very relaxed and happy to while away the time with you.

Sonia C

Last couple of weeks in May are great. Can be a bit windy but usually in the 80's. Not too busy.

Julie R

I am going to Zante on 2 May, stay at Mavrias Holiday Village, does anyone know what it's like? I'm taking 2 kids - how warm will it be?

Kim A

We are going to Tsilivi late May and would like to know what's the best way to explore the Island. Is car/bike hire readily available?. Also, does anyone know anything about the Alexandra Beach Hotel where we'll be staying? Chris & Kim.

Kathryn H

In May the weather is hot of course - not overly so but you'll definitely come back brown as a berry. Might need a jacket in the evening at the beginning of May though.

Rebecca L

Hi Sarah Ive been to Zante many times at different times of the year, and im going there again in May.If your going in may i suggest you dont go during the first week, anything after the 10th is great. The clubs and bars open around the 1st of may but there is hardly anyone there, but after the first week its full, its not over crowded like july and august its just nice.im going on the 15th ill see you there ,im staying at the cactus appartements, youlle have to come over for a drink!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!see you soon

Sarah C
