we stayed at villa vrissi a few years ago and realy enjoyed it. one bedroom villa with small lounge area with sofa bed small kitchen but what the heck nice sea food retaraunt just a 10 min walk down the road , shower toilet all in one typical Greek hand held shower !!  by far the best feature is the patio area with grape vine over, fantastic views over the bay  . had a great time here would go back tomorrow .

Has anyone stayed at Villa Vrissi, Old Alykanas? If so, please can you advise on what it is like?

Jules P

I thought this was a nice resort. We went at the end of the season so due to money being knocked off our food bills it made the holiday seem far more reasonable and we actually brought some euros home!! We stayed at the superfamily thomson Alykanas Village and found the hotel staff completely miserable and rude! Thomson reps were good though! Nice resort and also very close to Alykes so you can easily walk or get a horse and cart to experience something different.

Compare the cost of living in the UK now to what it was 2 years ago - I think you'll find the price rises in Alykanas are about the same.  Also, the strong Euro hasn't helped us Brits with our budgets.  I think you would find the same problems wherever you travel in Europe.

Totally agree with the previous post, we have just returned from 2 weeks at Alykanas Village(Thomson Superfamily) and found it all very expensive compared to two years ago when we last went.

Wouldn't recommend Alykanas Beach - its not all that special and the staff are MISERABLE!!! We had a fab holiday but this wasn't down to Thomson or the hotel!!!

Met some great people - Martin at Busters who entertained our kids at breakfast, Sakis and Keith at Dilemma Bar are just a few worth mentionning!!

Looks like we might have to find somewhere else to holiday where we get more for our money which is a shame.....

our second visit to zante, our first to alykanas. I know the euro is strong against the pound at the moment, but does that support the great tourist rip off?

One bottle of Magners 5 euros.
standard bottle of sun screen 13 to 18 euros. No thats not for a pack of six, its for one bottle.
Tin of Tuna 2 euros.
Meals out 3-6 euros for lunch 8-16 euros for dinner
paperback book 13 euros
yes everything is dear, but that shouldn't be helped by local greed

Wonderful holiday again in Old Alikanas, fourth year running. Resort unspoilt and wonderful for young children as the sea shelves very gently. We went to the Greek night at the Mill bar for the first time in Alikanas and what a night. Our party consisted of a 3 year old two teenages 12 & 15, girl and boy two OAP 70 & 75 and myself and my husband in their 40's. We all had the most entertaining evening and all joined in, a night that will never be forgotten, the dancers were fantastic, food great and I would recommend it to anyone.

Hello everyone

Had a fab time in Alykanas, went for 1 week in October,  great hotel and great atmosphere loved the Jam in music bar in the village it was fab, great music, fab company and fantastic bar staff felt really welcome.
Make sure you pop in to the Jam in for one or two lol

We came back 2 weeks ago and had the most fantastic holiday.  The people are very friendly. The beach is very safe and you can wade out for yards and yards.  The Mill pool bar which is located across the road from the beach is a good place to be if you don't like sand between your toes.  They serve a good breakfast for €5. Julie and Spiros are the owners and are very good hosts.

Look out for the horses and carriages, they are a great way of getting around (sometimes you can get them for free but range from €3 to €15).  For island trips we found Cavo Grosso the cheapest (2 day Athens trip cost €85 with a 'round the island cruise at €16).
We stayed at the Kalithea Apts. in Old Alikanas.  Would not recommend them as they are very basic. Towels and linen are changed only once a week likewise the cleaning and the electrics and plumbing left a lot to be desired.  I must say though that the view from the balcony was fanatastic. We will definitely come back but will be staying in different accommodation.
Oh, watch out for the mosquitos, they are pretty bad!

We just got back to uk after 7 days staying at dannys it was a real easy relaxed atmosphere very friendly, the resort had a really nice feel, our best holiday and we met brilliant friends Anette and Alan and thier family it really made our holiday complete. Perfect but now we have holiday blues. Thankyou for seeing us off that was so thoughtful. xx Jackie and Rob.

The beaches are amazing and the food is to die for especially at Romanza the staff are wonderful the food gourgous, highly reccomend it to all ages.
Quad higher or moterbike is a must to explore the island get out of the tourist spots and highing your own boat from the beach hut is well unforgettable total freedom and very reasonable.
Real good holiday destination very siutable to families.

Mark F

jenny just to let you know the best place for your child is the mouzakis apartments. the people are kind and everything.

alykanas has bn my best holiday yet. we played football in the courts during the day we also swam, played pool and crazy golf at night.

can you think of a better time table than that!!!111

Linda R

We just got back from 2 weeks at the Elpida and it was great. Spiros and his family made us very welcome, the apartment was clean and comfortable the pool was lovely and the grounds are kept really nicely by his dad. He's had some problems with Kosmar (local politics) but we went with MyTravel and we had no problems at all. Anything we needed, like I wanted some extra plates & towels , just arrived with a smile.

The resort is good, plenty of friendly bars & restuarants within easy walking distance, the beach is lovely and clean and there are horse carriages to take you into Alikes if you want even more bars & shops etc.

The only thing I would say to anyone going to Alikes or Alikanas is to make sure you take any medical stuff you may possible need as there isn't a chemist within reach and unlike supermarkets at home, the local shops just sell the very basic requirements. The mossies are also out in force so take plenty of DEET based repellant.
This was our 4th trip to Zante and we will certainly go back to Alikanas and the Elpida again.

Sonia

There are plenty of places to change travellers cheques, the kiosk opposite Busters or Catacombs shop (under the bar) are the places I generally use. A charge is built into the exchange rate - you don't have to buy anything.  I think you'll find the exchange rate for sterling travellers cheques is the same wherever you change them except maybe in Zante town where you'll get a better rate.

Richard O

Alikanas/Alykes has a number of Car hire shops that will cash Travelers Cheques but the supermarkets and shops will also Cash them for you. Be warned though they will charge you commision for doing so unless you purchase something. otherwise your hotel will be able to cash them in for small charge. I would suggest taking mainly cash from the Uk and using a safety deposit box whilst away. Eurochange here in the Uk is very good.

The reason you cant log on all the while must be down to your Computer because I get in every day without any probs. We have stayed here twice and really enjoyed it. The best place to eat is the Paradasiako on the road between Alykes and Alikanas a superb restaraunt offering great greek and other specialities. Its a lovely setting and a nice walk too. Its opposite a place called the pie shack next to the river but avoid that place at all cost.

Pat F

Are there places in Alykanas/Alykes where I can change Travellers Cheques?Saw the comments on A.T.M's and where there located but always feel safer with cheques. Also asked this question before but no response ,does anyone know what The Kalithea Apts are like in the old village of Alykanas? Thanks Pat x

Hi Stevie

Hazy here, this year will be or 4th in Alykanas, always go roughly same time last 2 weeks in September. you will enjoy the resort, the beaches are great, as to a lot of the Restaraunt's etc, the weather is nice, just right in the day & not to hot at night still teeshirts, but not to hot to sleep.  So much info I could give, dont know where to start, instead if you have not Registered i suggest you do, then you can login & read all comment's & view's on Alykanas.  It is a great site, always someone only to happy to help with advice.
You dont say where you are staying, which would help as to information on bars shops etc around you. I can safely say you will have a great holiday, if i can help anymore no problem.

Hi Tony

Like Chriss & Mal said there is a ATM near the Greedy Greek, however I had trouble withdrawing money on our Visa debit card, not sure about Maestro etc, I also know of other people having the same trouble, I never tried my Credit Card so I can't comment on that.  However dont worry there is another ATM in the big supermarket opposite the Jam Inn Bar on way to Alykes, about 3 mins walk from the Greedy Greek, & i had no problem there whatsoever.  There are also numerous ATM's in Alykes, so you should have no problem. Take Chriss & Mal's advice & make withdrawal's during the day or early night, as we were told they mey run out late at night. If you go have a great time, we will we are going back again in September.

Chriss & Mal

Hi - just wanted to say that there is an ATM outside the main supermarket in Alikanas but I'd get your money early in the evening as it tends to run out of cash later on in the day.

But I was told by some pals that they obtained cash from inside the supermarket when the ATM was empty as the staff are so helpful - by the way the supermarket is the one opposite the Greedy Greek and next door to the car rental place - hope this helps!
