click to enlargei just dont understand the whingers.we are going back to the grape vines for the third time and have never had a problem there.as for the the person who stated they had to walk miles for food i cant understand where you were going as its only a 5 min walk to all the bars.we have just had a week in skiathos and had to hire a car just to eat but its all part of the experience.if you dont want to explore and sit around eating at the appartments why not just go to butlins. oh and as for the guy complaining because he couldnt watch football  get a life.you travel out there for a break and do what you would at home.how sad.

Mac and Gwen just back from our visit to Zante 25/5/08-08/06/08, it was our second time at the Grapevines, we had a great time 3 years ago, this time we came for our daughter Donna's wedding, there was 17 of us which included our family and the groom Chris's family and friends and we all had a fantastic time, thanks to the lovely Emi and Rula and their mum Lita and the owners of the Grapevines who all made us very welcome, they were all very friendly and helpful. Thanks again for getting the ironing board for us for the wedding day, it was just what we needed for the wedding dress and a few of the guy's shirts.

Emi and Rula did a great job of running the bar, the food was always great, they certainly made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble, they worked long hours everyday but were always cheerful thanks again for making our stay memorable and enjoyable.
The wedding was on the 4th June and was held at the Shoestring resaurant in old Alakanas, we all had a great day, it was a magnificent setting and the food was amazing, it is definately worth a visit, there is a lovely beach and they do great lunchtime and evening meals. Thanks again to Tassos and Claire for everything they did for us on the special day.
Hi to Mick and Sue, it was nice to see you again and hi to everyone else we met while we were there especialy Chris and Maria.
Don't understand Peter Street's terrible comments, we could not find any fault with the Grapevines. We will definately return.

copied extract: Cant belive all these good reviews of the grapevines (STAYED 13/5/09-27/5/08),

It's all very well to criticise and the like. But surely, like the extract above and having reviewed your lasts, can you not even get your grammar/spelling correct ?

Don't come back to Zante Grapevines, stay at home in bright n bootiful (SIC) Bristol.

Bon Voyage

This was our second stay at the Grapevines, and again enjoyed the holiday very much, we were tempted to book again, but that choice has been taken away from us, but it appears that Grapevines has been dropped by First Choice.

It is true that the Grapevines is not the best 2* your ever likely to stay in, but by Greek standards it is not too bad, a room to sleep in, with basic amenties and clean , quiet and relaxing and friendly, you pay for what you get. Almost all of the people who have travelled around the Greek Islands were not complaining as they know what is really out there. A gap under the door and a breeze coming in and taps on the wrong way around............. really.

Laura (our First Choice rep) was a star for us, that helped my wife who is disabled bypass all the arrivals and departure waiting.

Cant belive all these good reviews of the grapevines (STAYED 13/5/09-27/5/08), would never return to this place ever again. Had many problems with the room, of which we were told would be sorted. Only two of these were fixed and the rest the managment couldnt care less, they just wanted your money.
This was meant to be our honeymoon and instead it was a honeymoon from hell, so thank you so much grapevines for a horible time.
NEVER AGAIN

WE ALSO STAYED BETWEEN THE 16TH AND 23RD OF OCT AND CAN HONESTLY SAY I HAVE NEVER MEET ANYONE AS RUDE AS CHRISTINA! WE WERE AFTER A RELAXING HOLIDAY AFTER FOLLOWING HOSPITAL TREATMENT BUT ENDED UP WALKING MILES FOR FOOD AND DRINK AS WASN'T SERVED AT SNACK BAR.WHEN ASKED ABOUT THIS ALL YOU GOT WAS SNAPPED AT AND SPOKEN TO LIKE SOMETHING THEY HAD STOOD IN.AND WE GOT SPOKEN TO THIS ON A NUMBER OF TIMES OVER DIFFERENT THINGS. ONE DAY I JUST WALKED INTO BAR TO LOOK AT FIRST CHOICE BOARD AND GOT ASKED WHAT DO YOU WANT IN QUITE A NASTY MANNER. WE DIDN'T SPEND MUCH TIME AT THE APARTMENT COZ FELT AS IF WE WEREN'T WELCOME THERE AND WAS GLAD TO BE GOING HOME AFTER SITTING ON BALCONY AND HEARING A MASSIVE ROW FROM SNACK BAR, ALL I COULD HEAR WAS CHRISTINA SHOUTING, GLAD WE DIDN'T HAVE AN CHILDREN WITH US BECAUSE THAT IS DEF NOT THE PLACE FOR THEM.

OTHER THAN THAT THE ROOM WAS LOVELY AND ZANTE IS BRILLANT AND BEAUTIFUL EVEN WITH RAIN + THUNDER. WILL DEF GO BACK BUT NOT TO GRAPE VINES!
ALSO WOULD LIKE TO HAVE GONE TO FEVER BAR BUT DURING TIME WE WERE THERE IS WAS JUST AN EMPTY SHELL WITH BUILDING WORK GOING ON.

Isabelle J          10/10

My boyfriend and I have stayed at the Grapevines for 2 years running and have had an absolutely fantastic time. I am only writing a comment because we were so shocked by some of the comments we have seen about the place. Christina and George are two of the loveliest hosts you could possibly wish for and always had time to speak to us. When I had a chronic toothache whilst staying there, George drove for 20 minutes to the next village (without being asked) to get painkillers for me and insisted that I didn't pay! The hotel is lovely, the resort is lovely and all the people we met were incredibly friendly. We would love to go back here every year. We are both in our early twenties and if you're looking for a wonderful relaxing holiday on a gorgeous island then this is highly recommended. We picked the hotel randomly from the brochure not knowing anything about the island but we landed on our feet and ended up in probably the best hotel there! If you're considering going here, please don't be put off by some of the other comments, this is a really great place to go. Isabelle and Andrew P.S. George's chicken and steak pies are gorgeous! Also, Fever bar, which is just round the corner is definately worth a visit.

Steve T          1/10

Congratulations to all those that have enjoyed their stay at Grapevines previously.

WE AND MANY OTHERS STAYING BETWEEN 16TH & 23RD DID NOT.

Never before on a Greek Islands holiday or any where else have we met such inhospitalable hosts.

I t seems that they have a seasonal closure weeks in advance of the First Choice brochure.

They spent the best part of their time sat behind the reception watching tv out of view.

Although advertised as a snack bar, snacks were none existent until requested by the rep.

Then a single toastie took 20minutes.

Food apparently stopped on Sept. 21st.

Drinks fared reasonably better although white wine never reapprearred.

The tv board advertised games from six weeks previously ( sorry but a man thing to watch footy on hols).

When the rep and three parties of guests went to meet, Christina interupted shouting loudly ( we only knew her name from this site and the rep, not by introduction).

Her husband returned and made an angry move towrds my partner which luckily his wife stopped.

I know of one couple requesting an early flight home or removal to another hotel.

Two others were making notes for their own complaint back home.

One returning guest was not going to return again.

Do the owners know what goes on.

I suggest that anyone going to Alykanas do not choose this hotel.

Oh yes the room maid was excellent and cheerful.

Most guests spent their money at Dannys, not an inspiring name but a very nice hotel, bar and snackbar with food and drink, which also meant money lost to Grapevines.

We also had had 2 days of rain, thunder and lighting with power cuts which did not bother us as we had great company with Lynne & Toffer .

Stay here again , you decide

Lovely apartments, clean & tidy.

But the hosts (George & Christina) they were an absolute disgrace, sat behind the counter watching television all day.  It seemed to be a chore to serve you, if they don't like this line of work why are they doing it?

Will definetly not be staying there again.  It costs nothing to be civil to people that have paid good money for a holiday.

I have seen the reviews from other people who say George & Christina are great, not sure where they got that from.

Pauline J          10/10

Once again a brilliant holiday, 3rd year we have stayed at the Grapevines.  We met all our friends again, Jo and Mike, Olive & Tony, Judy and Dave plus more couples we met last year, who decided to come back for a 2nd year.  It was great!  Thank you Christina and George for helping to make our holiday so relaxing.  The bar was open for food and drink when we wanted it and for as long as we wanted it.  No early nights for us!!  After 2 weeks drinking and eating , no exercise apart from putting the towels out on the sunbed,  no wonder we put on 1/2stone.  The tan has now faded so we have booked our holiday September 2008 already.

DVD's are on their way, Judy and Dave if you let us have your address thru Jo and Mike or Olive and tony, we will send one to you.

Brilliant holiday guys, see you all next year.

hi Amanda

Glad you enjoyed your stay @ Grapevines. The restaurant you mention is Vrisakis, run by two brothers and their families. Probably the best in the village now, or very close to being so. And the free carafe of wine they throw in certainly helps !!

at least the drunk didn't spoil your hols, one thing's sure they wouldn't have got a drink after 10.30pm @ Grapevines this year due to mine hosts extra duties at the family restaurant in Tsivili.....

roll on September till we go back and kick some ass....

Amanda S          8/10

just back from our first visit to zante, we stayed at the grape vines and found it very nice.

very nice rooms with air con, the pool was excellent and much needed with the sunshine.
the food was good at the pool bar.
george and christine were very good host's.
good  tavernas were just a stroll away, i would highly recommend the one on the corner behind danny's supermarket (cook food on a proper barbeque).
our first choice rep was james, very friendly and we did some great trips.
i  would recommend the scuba diving at st. nics bay and the day trip on the sailing boat.
i would also like to thank the drunken woman who came in at 4 in the morning and woke everybody up (thanks you stupid b***h), you always get one don't you!!!!.
but even she could not make a noise all the time.
a great holiday all the same, would go again no problems.

Brooke H

No worries at all.

The one that was rescued was a black one. Not the one that the man I took them off was holding, the other one.

Not sure which one that was though, I tried not to get too attached to them as I have already done that, which is why I have 2!!

They all made a nice little mess in the back of my car though and my mum!!! Is ok though, as we are incredibly tolerent towards animals! People no, but animals always!

Have a good summer xx

Anne W

Hi Karen the Zante Gardens apartments are great. They have only been opened for 3 years, so everything is brand new. I have looked inside the apartments and they are really nice. They have a pool bar which sells good everyday food. The pool is really nice. It is just along from the Grapevine Apartments where we were staying, nice and quite.
Hope you have a good holiday we had a great time,
Anne

Brooke H

Hey everybody,

It's the rep Brooke here - who took the puppies.

As it turned out the rescue centre was full with literall no room for the puppies. I took them to the vet in Zante town instead (who, by the way has just fixed my puppies from the awful typhoid infection) fantastic vet!) So anyway, I left the grapevines puppies there, one was taken just as I was leaving by an english girl who lives out here and rescues them. The other 3 were left with the vet, which I'm hoping found homes.

Glad you all had a great time and thanks again, its good that some people care about the animals out here.

Brooke xx

Hi sorry correction to my previous comment Margaret and Janis are from Bath. Take Care

Anne

Anne W          8/10

Add your comment here  Hi everybody we just got back from another great two weeks holiday at the Grapevine Apartments. The apartments now have air conditioning which is a great bonus 40 euros per week. We met some really nice people at the apartments this year and a special mention to Margaret and Janis the sisters from Bristol who helped us with the puppies. Now to the puppies, me and Colin looked after them for a few days until the First Choice rep arranged to get them to a rescue centre. Well Done Brook. I was a bit disappointed with the maid as she did hit the puppies with a brush and they were crying (so sorry I did not leave a tip for her). The only part of the holiday we did not enjoy was the fact George and Christina now have a new restaurant opened in Tsivilli and George is working in the place every evening leaving Christina at the Grapevines herself. Most evenings the bar closed at between 10.30pm and 10.45pm as Christina need to get away. This was a bit of a bummer as most people like to have a meal out and then go back to the bar for a late drink and a chat before going to bed, this was not possible this year. I spoke to a few couples who were disappointed with this set up. Never mind we got a good laugh at Danny's bar. Coiln has got some photo's of the puppies and will post them on this site in the next few days. The weather was great 90 most days. Hello to Bob and Celia they were there for the 15th time. Yes I would got back to Alakanas as the place is still very quite and relaxing. If you get the chance go to the old shoe string beach and beach bar oh soooooooooo very lovely and the perfect place to chill out all day. I hope everybody going to Grapevines this year has as good a holiday as we had. Take Care Anne and Coiln xx

Colin S

hi Sally & Elaine re the Pupps:

Thx for your post, we managed to get the First Choice rep Brook to come on Fri 22/06 with her mum who took the pups off to the rescue centre and a visit to the vet. I'll be contacting her this week to get an update on the likelyhood of re-homing them. Fingers crossed for eeni, meeni, miny & mo

hi Judy & Dave Wilson

Yes Christina & George are still there @ Grapevines, however as George's family have opened a restaurant in Tsivili he wasn't there most nights as he had to assist at the restaurant. Anne will post more about that & our overall experience with our hosts later this week. Stay tuned

Anne W

Hi Judy and Dave thanks for sending the email address for George and Christina but unfortunately it is out of action. I cant get a reply on the phone but will keep trying. We are going on the 10th June 2007 and we require a top floor apartment and have requested this with First Choice but just wanted to make sure they told Grapevines about our request as previously they didn't, although we did eventually get a top floor apartment . Colin has an alergy to the flowers on the bottom floor. Thanks again for your help.

Take Care Anne and Coiln

Judy W          10/10

Hi Anne & Colin the email address that we have for George  & Christina is poulskoul3@hotmail.com

We have had no reply to our last few emails to them but this may be because the email address may be going to the Grapevines . We do have a telephone number for them but do not know if it is still activated 6948537955.
Let us know if you managed to contact them.

Best Regards  Judy & Dave Wilson.

Susan

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 weeks and just arrived home yesterday. The apartments are fantastic and always kept very clean. Our room was cleaned nearly every day during our stay. The views around the apartments are stunning with the rolling green hills and trees everywhere. Its also a good base for exploring around the resort and not far from all the shops, restaurants, pubs and the beach . Christina and George are friendly and very helpful. We will definitely be back to stay here again sometime.

Eileen F

We went with friends last year and have booked again this year. It is quite quiet so suited us perfectly, as it is within walking distance of beach and village centre.

Cathy W

Hi, these apartments are through FIRST CHOICE.

Hope this helps.

Sonia

The beach is a 10-15 minute stroll.

     from GRAPEVINES

Mike O

Another near faultless fortnight (very loud and irritating neighbours for a few days, but that wasn't Grapevines fault). Cleaner still meticulous as ever, George and Christina always cheerful and helpful, even after 18th Oct. quake did fairly serious damage to their house. (When you make it to the UK you'd be more than welcome to stop at our house if your travels take you to the West Country). We'll be back....

Mike O

click to enlargeNot really, you have to carry on through the centre of Alykanas, past the first junction after the Apollo, then past the main central cross roads, past the Tipsy Toad then take the next left which will take you past Zante Garden and another place before you come to the Grapevines on the left. I'll be there in three days!!!!

Martin K

Please can someone tell me roughly where in Alykanas the Grape Vine Apts are? We stayed in Alykes this year and walked along the river bank to Alykanas and wondered if it is on that road? Thanks Martin......

Jon M

Just got back from Alikanas, 2nd time there but 1st time at Grape Vines - would certainly recommend it, very basic rooms but very clean and friendly. A totally relaxing holiday!!!! Met up with a lot of very friendly people! Jon and Elaine Medley

Hayley A

Hi

Just wondering if anyone can help me looking for first choice rep Mellalisa who worked at Grape Vines.

If you know of her or how i can contact her please email on toadmonty@tiscali.co.uk

Thankyou Hayley and Lee

Sarah M

We returned from Grape vines on the 21st June this year.

We had the most fabulous holiday ever, we made some very very goods friends(paul & Donna from bradford) and George & Christina....

I have been to Greece a few times and this by far has been the most wonderfull holiday so far.
The appartments were clean and welcoming and the pool and bar area are fantastic, good food and clean surroundings, what more could you ask for.

after many eveings of quiz's in busters and late night shots of Metaxa with george & christina (followed by many mornings feeling a little under the weather) it was time to come home, and i can honestly say i was so sad it brought a tear to my eye.

Many many new friends to wave us off and hopefully catch up with on our return next year.

Grapevines we love you and hope to be back very soon......

(oh George and christina, we are really sorry to say we must decline your wedding invite because the romantic surroundings and metaxa helped create another wee problem which is due on march 14th...our very own greek created baby...)

Love to you all and  i will e mail soon

Carlie H

We have just returned from another excellent holiday in Alikanas and the fourth at the Grape Vines.
Whilst the studios may be a little small they have everything you need. There was plenty of hot water for showers and the largest towels I have seen in Greece (no need to pack an extra towel next year). Staff especially the cleaner are very obliging and we even had a kettle this year. We are in the process of booking for next august.
Carlie Hart

Mike O

Hmm..thought Sunstart was supposed to be budget! The holiday we had last year was £777..this year £734 but they want £843 for identical dates next year. Curious.

Jeanette H

Just got back yesterday,we had a fantastic time the weather was great as usual.Christina and george made us very welcome.Have booked for next year from the sun start brochure through co-op travelcare.

Les K

Just to confirm what has been said about these Apartments now going under Sunstart.  They are now on the Sunstart website but you will have to,"rattle", through a fair few Apartments before you get there, something like 20 !!  Well worth it when you get there.  We stayed at these Apartments back in May, see report.

Joe A

the apartments were very clean and also the poor area and bar was always very clean. the location had some breath taking views especially looking down from the highest point of the island which we went up on the jeep safari. christina and george made our holiday so welcoming and were also willing to help especially when i was stung by a wasp !. christina and george set up a lovley bbq with great food and very good cocktails which gave me mnay hangovers!.
the only down part of our holiday was going home and waiting in the airport wich is very crowded, lucky for us the weather and home was hot.
we will deffintaly return to the grape vines apartments as charlie wants to beat george in darts!
we both hope that george and christina have a lovely wedding in march 2006, also forgette what we both told you abut how bad england is and visit us! xxxxx

Looking to book again for the same time next year and have just been in contact with First Choice and they've said they aren't taking it next year - not in the broucheurs etc. Has anyone got any ideas who is going to take it or if it's going independant - if so anyone got any details? Wow we had a FANTASTIC time at the Grape Vines, Alikanas!!!!  Now back in Blighty we are missing the apartments and resort and warm Greek people soooo muchCry.  George and Christina are the warmest, kind and polite hosts we have ever had the pleasure to meet, with wicked sense of humours!!!Laugh  They made us feel so welcome and relaxed straight away in this beautiful location.  We loved the setting literally in middle of the grape vines and away from the main strip of bars and restaurants for a bit of peace.  We could not fault the accomodation, location, food or service in any way and will definitely be back.  The BBQ on Thursday night was fun and excellent value- beware of George & Chritina plying residents with Metaxa shots they are like rocket fuel!!!Pissed  Met some excellent people during our stay, including Charlie & Rachel from Maidstone who we met early on in our stay and went to several quiz nights and had a few cocktails & karaoke together, and we hope to stay in touchSmile.  We hired a car for a week and discovered many little quiet beaches for sunbathing and exploring, also took a boat trip around the island.  Tip about the airport, which is the only set back to having a holiday in Zakynthos- Christina helped us to book a taxi through a local firm to take us to the airport for our flight home (she advised us not to pay over 20 euros for this).  This worked well as it meant we spent less time waiting at the crowded airport along with many other Brits waiting for flights.

Christina & George- wishing you all the best for your Wedding Day in March 2006 Clapand hope you enjoy your touring of the UK!!!  Thank you again for making out holiday so fabulous!!Lots of love XXSmile

me and my fiance have only come back from here two day's ago and have already been back in contact with phil (below) and chrissy and george. chrissy and george are the most polite, entertaining and hospitable couple we've met abroad, no problem was too big and any advice given was definatly worth listening to . me and jen went there for our 21st birthday's and will be going back the same time next year. the food in the apartments was blinding 'mama' is an excellent cook, but when you do venture out you are spoilt for choice with places to eat, drink and get merry. there aren't many club's so boozy, aggravating groups of lad's are few and far between, alykanas is a chilled out, laid back resort with fantastic scenery (go on the jeep safari and take binochulars). grape vines is full of people who want to get to no you and relax so nobody leaves without a hoard of people waving you off, just watch the cocktails on the last night, poor jen

Returned from Grape Vines yesterday, been home just over 12 hours and missing everything and everyone already!

Had one of the best holiday's ever apart from our 4 yr old son cutting his eye open and having to have 4 stitches!!
Thanks to everyone at Alykanos restaurant for helping out when said accident happened.

Christina and George from Grape Vines are the nicest, friendliest couple you could ever meet and absolutley adore children so if you have a young family I know you are going to have a fantastic holiday.

We loved it so much we're hoping to go back again for a week in September!

Returned yesterday, 29th, after having spent a fortnight here, our first time on the island.  Enjoyed every single minute of it.  For this year there is a new couple Managing the place, Christin & George, they look after the Bar during the evenings.  During the day is a guy called PAUL, a super person, he is warm & friendly to all his guests.  We hit it off with him as soon as our bags were unpacked & remained firm friends throughout.  Anyone coming to these Apartments for the first time, you don't need to bring a kettle & mugs as they are provided !!!!  As for the Cleaning Lady, we concur/add to Mikes comments that she does an excellent job, perhaps a little OVER zealous if anything.  ANY clothes laying on the floor, she picks up, folds up & places on the bed.  She is VERY partricular about emptying the kettle, so only put in there what you need, don't make the mistake of refilling it like we did, in readiness for a brew later in the day because it won't be there !!  ALL food purchased here is presented to perfection.  PAUL is a Qualified Chef, Christins cooking is also excellent.  At lunchtime try the Chefs Salad(one between two people), on a couple of days we had a special pizza with this, ALL is freshly prepared & looks too good to eat when served.  There are two Blackboards, one has a list of Greek Specialities served on designated days of the week Friday to Wednesday(be warned, the Stifado is RABBIT), you order these the day before.  Thursday is B.B.Q. Night, there is a choice of Steak, Souvlaki or Sausages, again, you order the day before, cost E7.50, this includes a pint of beer, ladies can opt for wine.  A night NOT to be missed.  Paul did the cooking when we went & George did it on 26th May(we were unable to attend this one due to coming back from Kefalonia but the report from those who did attend was excellent).  The other Blackboard shows what MAIN dishes are available daily.  There is also a Snack Menu on the Bar.  Be warned, bottles of Milkshake cost E3 here but over at Dannys Supermarket they are E1 !!

The location and the cleanliness were in fact perfect. Late booking and for us as a family it could not have been bettered at any cost. Basic but completely adequate accommodation  cleaned daily by constantly smiling and friendly lady. We've never been back to revisit anywhere (other than Glastonbury) but are rebooking identical package for this year. L
