Marelen Hotel - (Accommodation in Kalamaki)

Brian T

We were a party of 6 in SC studios. Had a wonderful time! Generally very clean all round, staff very friendly and helpful, and altogether a very relaxing holiday.
We paid for AC, and did not regret it!
Pool area was pleasant when we first arrived, but was getting very busy on the day we left, with a great influx of young families.
The pool bar kept us fed and watered every day, and we had very good food throughout. The staff were courteous and efficient.
Went on 2 excursions through the TO, but the sea trip around the island was a disaster because the sea was choppy, causing people to be sick and preventing us disembarking at the various places we should have visited and the information system failed so we had no idea about which bit of cliff we were staring at at what time! The coach tour of the island was much better. The guide, Spiros and driver Dimitri gave us a good experience of the island which made up for the other trip!
Aircraft disturbance - not an issue. In fact we spent our days around the pool trying to identify the various planes as they arrived and then seeing if the hotel had new clients a little later!
(I had finished reading Harry Potter by then!)
The hotel is situated away from the main town centre and it was fair walk to get to some of the restaurants, but we needed the walk back to use up some of the calories we had piled on!
would we return? Yes, definitely.
Thanks to The management, owners and all the staff concerned.

Buon Amici - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Brian T

This place was on our 'to visit' list and we were not disappointed!
We were tempted up the stairs by the offer of free wine, (very tasty), and the promise of a good meal.
We initially thought the menu was limited, but it was promoted as Italian, so we settled down to choose our portions while sipping the wine!
Four of us had pasta, each different and a pizz was shared by a dad and daughter. The pasts were simply delicious - the subtle flavours of each dish coming to life in the mouth! we all ended up having a taste of everything else! portions were not small, especially the pasta, which almost filled me up(!)
We went for a selection of deserts and have to say that the Tiramasou and cheese cake were the best ever tasted! The strawberry sorbet was also delicious.
Overall the prices were a little higher than other places, but this was compensated for by the experience of the food.
Stuart came out to check we were happy, and all in all we had such a good time there that we returned again and enjoyed a different selection of main courses!
i f we go back to Kalamaki, we will be visitibg Buaon Amici again!

Escape - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Brian T

We found Escape in our second week, a long walk from our hotel. we had decided to visit following reports on this page, and have to say were somewhat disappointed. The size of the meals was good, and the service adequate, but we found the food a little oily. I had the beef stifado on special menu, which had a good flavour, and others tried the chicken in varous forms. Their opinion was the food was fairly bland.

Mermaids - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Brian T  (26 July 2003)

We visited Mermaids on a Friday night - 'Greek night' and just managed to get a table before the rush.
We were a party of 6, but the staff soon gave us a table in the position we preferred, a nice touch!
Most of tried the food on the special menu, and have to say it was delicious. We ate and drank and enjoyed the greek dancers, plate smashing etc., then somehow got caught up in the 'conga' as it wound around the tables, into the street etc., and ended up doing the fire dance!
An enjoyable evening, but when we tried to return another evening there were queues, so no further experiences on a 'quiet' night.

Michaelos - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Brian T

Mikaelos was at the furthest point from our hotel, but that did not stop us finding it and we were glad we did!
We were welcomed by the staff and ushered to a table in the corner specially catering for our party of 6.
Dennis soon came along and welcomed us, took our drinks order and left us to study the menu. We were quite surprised that the prices were lower than other restaurants we had already visited.
We ordered a mixed meze starter plus a variety of smaller appetizers and had a great time sharing them around and tasting the different flavours.
The main courses were very well presentd and full of subtle flavours that ensured we took out time to savour the full impact of the meal. We washed down our portions with some white House wine which was very pleasant.
We sampled the dessert menu, again sharing the various dishes.
We decided that this was probably the best meal overall.
We booked a table for a return visit just before returning home and had a great time again.
My only regret is that it was so far away, as we would have enjoyed more evenings here!

Pandesia - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Brian T

We came here because we had read how good it was, and our rep recommended it also.
I have to say we were more than a little disappointed!
We arrived fairly early, when there was plenty of space, but the waiters did not seen too keen to make up a table for 6. They were courteous but distant and seemed very keen to take our orders and serve us quickly.
I noticed others arriving were getting a different welcome(!?)
I ordered a lamb Zakynthian and it was delicious. Others had chicken, but we also ordered a pizza for 2 (dad & picky teenage daughter!), which was so small that dad was left with hardly anything to eat!
We finished our main course and left to have desserts somewhere else.

Paolo - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Brian T

We visited Paolo's on our first night and were very impressed. The waiters were a great gang and were very attentive. We returned there on quite a few visits and were never disappointed.
The food was very good, especially the lamb dishes, which were extra value when chosen on the special menu.
We have special memories of Antonis rushing past calling out to us, and the Jannis with his tales of his days on the cruise ships.
If we go back to Kalamaki, this will be the first place we will visit!
Thanks to all who made our eating here a delight, and many thanks for the bubbly on our last night!!

Parthenon Restaurant - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Brian T

We called in here one evening because others had said it was so good.
The waiters were fine, service good and the food was very enjoyable, - if you like eating to Eminem blaring away in your ear'oles!!
The place was packed and evertone seemed to be enjoying themselves, but we noticed that noone stayed long after eating! It was a good place to go to eat and leave to do something else!
We prefer to eat and sit and enjoy the ambience of the surroundings. Safe to say we did not repeat the experience!
