Mermaids - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Take an average UK fast food bistro, stick it outside, add a few token mediterranean dishes and you have Mermaids. Yes its OK, but lets not go overboard in our praises folks, if its good its only because most of the competition is so pisspoor.

What a joy to find that this the best taverna on the island was by good fortune the nearest to our hotel(The Daniel). In common with the other Daniel guests we felt we should neglect Mikaelos and in the spirit of adventure eat further afield. And in common with all the other Daniel guests after eating here and there in average to poor places we returned to the excellent Mikaelos. Fresh Halibut on my birthday, also our last night, was wonderful. As a big fish eater I also recommend the fillet of Perch. How this website claims that the OK but average Mermaids is the best restaurant in Kalamaki and puts Mikaelos second is a mystery.

3000 dr for two Sprites and two gin & tonics! Nice view, nice rip off.

Angels Bar - (Bars in Kalamaki)

So both Mermaids and the Angels Bar are owned by the same people and both appear in the top three. I wonder who set this website up and who influences it?

Dias - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Webmaster I think this should be Dias with an "i". This could explain the lack of response. Dias with an i was liked by us and a big hit with our two girls aged 7 & 10. Nice ambiance, nice food, busy but good space between tables and the split level layout meant not overcrowded. Dishes were happily tailored for our veggie eldest. Waiters very pleasant and jokingly understanding of the tail end of my hangover(see comments on Daniel Hotel). Well worth checking out

Swordfish and chips swilled down with two glasses of chilled house white while watching the sea from the shade of the terrace. An ideal birthday lunch! Then the two minute paddle to our spot on the cove of Crystal beach. Life is hard sometimes

Yes Fiona disapointing as it may be to you, I do know what I am talking about. I was there and that is what I was charged. Doubtless the barperson decided to try and make a little extra by fleecing the seemingly mug punter. It does happen to us tourists. When it does it's a good idea to put others on their guard. You may choose to ignore the advice but please don't slag people of for giving it.

Dear Samantha- I am Simons partner Linda. Yes he does complain a lot- at least you don't have to live with him! However if you look at Stanis and Dias he does have pleasant things to say! Myself, I loved Mikaelos, had no complaints about the Daniel, and thought the Cave Bar was wonderful.

No flipperty flop I am not a Flintstone I am an opinionated discerning consumer. I presumed the nature of this feedback facility was to express opinions. Thanks for your explanation of expensive drinks, it's the owners instantly recouping their capital outlay on palm trees. Southend isn't that where poor Southern oiks go to get overcharged for bad service and then lulled by glitsy surroundings presume they are having an OK time. Not for me I think
