It was the 4th year myself & my husband had returned to Elpida. Fantastic time, fantastic place & a fantastic family couldn't ask for better. The grounds are lovely, the pool is ideal, the food is great & the service outstanding. We have met some really nice people who also return every year such a friendly atmoshere. I love it here & can't wait to go back next year.

click to enlargeHad another wonderful holiday at the Elpida. This is really a home from home. I am a solo traveller and this is one of the few places that I feel safe and relaxed, this is down to the family that own the Hotel. Spiros, Denis and Dennis go out of their way to make your holiday all you would want. The rooms are spacious and clean and they even provide a kettle if you want a cuppa in the morning ! They are on the outskirts of Alykanas, but a stones throw from all the bars and restaurants. A 10 min stroll to the local beach or a bit longer to Shoestring bay which is beautiful and well worth the walk. Lots of lovely restaurants around but the best by far, in my opinion, is Vrasaki ! The bar at the Elpida is a great place to meet people and make new friends,Lovely atmosphere and very friendly. While your there try the Spiros Special cocktail... but be warned !! Lovely atmosphere and very friendly. All in all a fantastic holiday and I cant wait for my next visit !

 Hi Debbie,

lots of info on my post April 2009.  Alykanas is the quieter of the two resorts, Alykes is the one which is far more lively but a lot more commercialised.  There is a fantastic childrens pool attached to the deeper one.  On first arrival you may think it a little small but believe me it's just right.  Your teenage girls, depending on their ages will have a great time as most of the bars stay open until late.  This is our fifth visit to the Elpida and our kids have more or less grown up there and have never complained, making loads of new friends which they disappeared with of an evening. We will be flying out on 4th August with our 18year old son and he is really looking forward to going back.  A word of advice, don't hire any quads as my daughter very nearly didn't come back with us due to a bad accident. Plenty of tours to go on (arrange independently as they are so much cheaper).  The beach is about a 10-15 minute walk as the Elpida is slightly out of town depending on which part of the beach you want to go.  Air con is additional. The family are fantastic and will bend over backwards to accomodate their guests.  See you there!

Hi Janice, you will love this small, quiet, family run complex. No formal entertainment provided but we have not needed it - plenty of laughs with friends made over the years. Pool table plus ps2 available for kids.No worries about sun beds as there are always plenty. Although close to the main road you soon forget it. We have only ever stayed in the new complex but this was very good in comparison to other Greek accomodation. You have to buy your own toilet roll, and the cooking facilities are basic. Fridge, sink, hotplates, crockery and table/chairs.However, the owners are lovely and will do their upper most to help. Air con is extra.Spiros is the son of Dennis and Denise; Spiros speaks perfect English and is just brilliant, but beware his lethal cocktails which incidentally work out cheaper than buying just a G & T. Bathrooms get very wet and slippery, but hot water is available 24/7. Attached to the hotel is a supermarket also belonging to the family. However, you can't eat or drink purchases by the pool. This will be our 4th time back to this hotel - love the location just outside of town which walks off some calories!

22/8/08 - 05/9/08
Flight from Birmingham (Thomson's)
Hotel booked though otbeach
Room 346 , 3rd floor
http://www.elpidahotel.gr/en/index.php

AIRPORT-------- A good size new Airport with air conditioning. The checking in desk was open 3 1/2 hours  before flight departed.

TRANSFER------- Transfer from the Airport took about 15 minutes in a Taxi and the cost 24 Euro.

VIEW FROM ROOM--------- Our room was in the new block towards the back of the apartments. Our room over looked the front of the hotel.

ROOM-------------- Large room, with twin beds (and space for another bed). The cooker was more little a camping stove so if you want to cook anything then this is not the place for you. No shower curtain, the bath room is more a wet room. The BEST THING- HOT WATER every hour of every day. Maid service every other day, but all they do is empty the bins. Linen and towels changed twice a week. You do have to provide your own toilet roll.

CHECK OUT-------- Check out- 10am.

AIR CONDITIONING------ 7 Euro per day. A little more expensive than what we have paid in other apartments in the past, but it was a must. We did not think the room would get so cold as you are not able to have it on if you are not in the room. The room did get cold after it being on for about 30 mins, the room was so cold in the night that we needed to use the blankets.

SAFE BOXES----- 30 euro for 2 weeks. The boxes are in the rooms and operate with a key.

RECEPTION---- The reception open 8am - midnight.

ATM---- We found 2 Atm both on the main street and both worked fine.

INTERNET------  There are lots of bars that have internet.

The  Elpida Apartments are about a 5 minute walk to the centre and about 15 miutes to the beach.
