Mermaids - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Jamie W  (10 August 2005)

I really don't understand why everytone raves about this restaurant.  I chose to eat at Mermaids on the second night of our holiday and once was definately enough.  The menu is certainly extensive but, on closer inspection, it seemed to me that there wasn't a great deal of variety between the hudreds of beef dishes.  The onr thing that really disappointed me was that we really were packed in like sardines.  When I'm dining, I really don't want to hear about the sexual exploits of a couple on my right and the bowel problems of a gentleman on my left.  I can understand why some people like this restautant but, for me, it was more pub grub than Greek cuisine.

Plubis Studios - (Accommodation in Kalamaki)

The Plubis Apartments were superb.  The rooms were basic but spotlessly clean and we had a really nice terrace at the back.  The best thing about the studios was the pool and pool bar.  This, like everything else here, was kept really clean.  The pool was great and the food at the bar was very good and very cheap.  I can't recommend these studios enough.

Blue Caves and Shipwreck Cruise - (Zante Excursions)

Jamie W

We went on The Alexandros and, as several cruises had been cancelled due to bad weather on the previous couple of days, the ship was full to bursting and there was nowhere to sit.  As we cast off from our moorings, we got tangled up in the anchor chain of a very posh cabin cruiser and after much shouting and waving of arms, we sailed out onto the sea to be hit by a very harsh wind.  The waves were breaking over the bows, all the chavs got soaked and it was great fun.  We finally found somewhere to sit.

We couldn't go to the shipwreck because of the bad weather (as soon as we went round the top of the island, the wind was so strong we had to turn back.)  The Blue Caves were, um, blue and some chav who had far too much Mythos jumped off the boat and had to be rescued by the hard working lady who provided the commentry in 5 different languages.

Not to be deterred by the weather, the captain took us down to the Keri Caves.  I think I may have been suffering from cave fatigue by this point but, hey, the cruise was 2 hours longer than expected and I managed to top up my tan on the lst day of my holiday.  It was worth the price alone just to see the chavs running for cover at the first sign of a wave.
