Pallas Hotel - (Accommodation in Laganas)

Vikki W

I've been to Laganas twice previously and stayed at the Olympia on the main strip both times before but just booked to stay at the Pallas Hotel from 21 to 28 September.  Is anyone else staying there then?

Excellent, looks like we will see you there then!  Bit worried that the hotel would be empty at the end of season but it seems like I'm wrong!

Rescue Club - (Bars in Laganas)

Vikki W

Got back on Friday 29 September.  Spent the whole week visiting Rescue and talking to Ollie, Leftie, Demitri, Tyson, (although I'm sure that Tyson was intimidated by us!!) Dan and Jamie (PR).  It is a fantastic place and no matter how often you see the fire breathing act it is still amazing.  Drinks are slightly more expensive than other bars but they are sure to give free shots to regulars and if you are lucky and hit the place at the end of the season a free t-shirt too!  Cheers everyone for making us so welcome, you never know, we might even bump into you again somewhere (although for everyone's reference, Bexley is nowhere near Rotherhithe!!)

Where to start??

Very impressed when we turned up in the middle of the night... oh how things changed!  The room was clean although we were stuck at the back of the hotel on the ground floor despite requesting a second floor room with pool view and balcony.  There were these black millepede type creatures in our room  when we turned up and on the corridor outside our room and being two girls we were a bit grossed out by them.  We managed to miss our rep meeting but as I had been to Laganas twice before I didn't really mind that too much.  The pool was ok, very clean and at least it was a chlorine pool, not like many pools in Laganas.

When we realised just how far away from town we were we were a bit miffed to say the least.  We realised that it would cost us 6€ to get a taxi into town each evening and 6€ back again, which basically meant that we were stuck at the pool bar or our room until the late evening when we were ready to go out.  We managed to walk back from the strip twice (with plenty of alcohol for Dutch courage) and neither time did I feel particularly safe as the main strip is actually a walk down a lane with no side walk or lighting.  Very unsafe and intimidating.

We were practically forced to spend 1.20€ per coke we drank at the bar and each meal on the restrictive menu at the bar costs approximately 5€ and was not worth the money.  I must have tried most things on the menu, and the only thing that impressed me was the club sandwich.  Everything came with chips and there was no offer of veg at all.  God forbid I was a vegetarian!  I would have starved!  The lady running the bar in the day time seemed nice enough although her man friend Denis was a bit of a loser.  Miserable, attitude filled and generally quite nasty and snobbish.  The man that ran the bar at night was lovely though and polite which helps.  The entertainment which was supposed to be on at the bar on certain nights was cancelled nearly every night which was a let down.

The room was cleaned every night and this is where the clincher comes!  On our last day my friend and myself vacated the apartment by 12pm as instructed.  When it came to getting changed ready to go out that night my friend realised she had accidentally left her belt in the room.  When enquiring with the witch of a receptionist (beware of her!) about it she was told that anything left in the room the maid assumes is a present to her.  My friend practically laughed in her face thinking she was joking but apparently not.  THE MAIDS ARE THIEVES!!    This would not happen in England (or anywhere else in the world or Laganas probably)!  Eventually the witch had to call the maid at home and get her to drop it off to the hotel before we left which she done in the end.  Still, not very happy about the service here though!

Would I return to Laganas?  Yes.  I've fallen in love with the island but I would NEVER return to the Pallas Hotel after this experience.  There are definitely 100% better hotels on offer closer to the main strip.

Also found that if you had been to the Pallas Hotel before you were treated like an old friend but if you were new there you were ignored.

I am now on a one woman campaign to get this hotel to wake up and smell the coffee!  You can't treat your guests like this, they come on holiday to relax, not to be stolen off of, ripped off with the food and stranded in the middle of some olive groves with no entertainment!

Thomas Cook - (Tour Operators in Zante)

Vikki W  (03 October 2006)

Flights and transfers were ok.  Took a while for our luggage to arrive at Zante airport but to be fair they were working to Greek time as usual, it just happens to be noticed more at 6am than it would at 2pm!!  We managed to get on the right coach and the rep (Steve) was Scottish and we couldn't understand a word he was saying.  We got to our hotel and we had to struggle to get our cases out of the coach (two girls with no hint of a muscle between us!) and drag them into the hotel foyer with no held from our muscular rep (cheers Steve!).  That was the last time we saw our rep all holiday.  Our hotel was so far away from the main strip and other hotels that I guess the cheeky beggar couldn't be bothered to make the walk to our hotel (not that I blame him, I wouldn't either!).

The coach was driven by a speed freak on the way back to the airport and I was sure we would all die on the trip, but having been to many Greek islands, I should have been used to that by now!  I was also used to the airport so the less said about that the better!  Although the staff were next to useless.  They didn't know what was going on.  They sent through 5 flights at 5am in the morning with no airport staff actually working at that time.  They basically had no organisational skills.

The flight on the way home was ok though and the staff on the plane were very efficient.  10/10 for them, shame the reps let Thomas Cook down.   If you look closely that is a very slow sarcastic hand clap for you all!!
