Zakfari Jeep Safari - (Zante Excursions)

Michelle M  (27 August 2003)

Myself (Michelle) & Daughter (Grace)went on Fishermans Day.
A great day out, thanks to Paul our Driver and Escort for the day, his commentary/knowledge of the island, history and "myths" was fantastic (particulary liked the story about Well No. 1). Be prepared to get dusty and you will definitely sleep well, once the Tour was finished I felt dirty, knackered and exhilirated. Contact Lense wearers ...leave them out! They really hurt when the dust gets in your eyes, take your specs though for some breathtaking views. Made new friends on the Safari too as Paul encouraged us to chat.
If you do any trip on Zakynthos - you must do this one. The local honey is great and I've still to try the mountaine herbs (Pauls Remommendation) to see if I do hallucinate!!...Oh and finally hold on to your hats. Hi to all that were on my Jeep especially to Wasfi and her Mom, thanks for asking us to Dinner, Grace and I had a really good time.

Iliessa Beach Hotel - (Accommodation in Argassi)

Michelle M

Myself (Michelle) and Daughter (Grace) stayed here in August 2003. A friendly hotel where you can use the facilities of the Porto Iliessa, where they have a good Kids Club and pool area. The Iliessa hotel has a pool and direct access to a gently sloping, calm, warm sea (no beach to speak of). Kostas the Pool Side Bar man is great fun and really made my daughters holiday with his sense of humour, when she felt ill for a few days he really made an effort to cheer her up by buying her a Bubble Gun and impressing her with his card tricks and connect 4 skill (She wanted to take him home). George the barman at the Porto Iliessa is a friendly handsome Chap (I wanted to take him home...lol). Eleanor the evening barmaid is really nice too, as is the receptionist. We couldn't find fault with this hotel or the resort of Argassi, lively if you want and quiet if you want (Don't expect luxury in Greece though as it just doesn't happen, you get good clean basic accommodation and facilities). Not too many English Bars (We went to one called Oasis and once was enough). Go to the Greek owned bars they are more courteous and professional (Particularly Magic Mushroom and the Meeting Place where you will get prompt, polite, professional service, also visit George upstairs at the Porto Iliessa). Zorba's, and Carissomo are nice places to eat although all of the restaurants do pretty much the same thing. If you do a tour go on "Zakfari". The most impressive thing about the Hotel is Kostas because he laughs and jokes and it's contagious - rubbing off on the guests - and you find yourself making friends and chatting with the other guests. A big Efkaristo to all of the Staff and to Thomas Cook Reps (Ian and Jodie) who were friendly & knowledgeable and worked really hard long hours to make everyone happy, they need to improve or stop the sunkissed cruise though as this was just mind numbingly boring, overcrowded and overpriced, especially the watersports on Vassilikos beach which are privately run, this beach is also far too busy.
