Mermaids - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Craige C  (26 August 2002)

We have just returned and visited Mermaids based upon the entries to this site. We tried Mermaids 3 times...the first time both the food and service was excellent as we arrived before 8pm; the second time was very poor - there weren't any set tables available and so a table was dragged from the storeroom and we were crammed into the main access route to the kitchen...they don't turn business away! And after the second request for us to move in order to allow staff access to serve the additional tables, we asked to be moved or to be left alone, which to give them credit they left us alone to have our meal in "relative" comfort. Thinking this was just a "glitch" due to them being so busy, we decided to give a third and final chance, during which the service was slow due to it being so busy again. I also came down with something not very pleasant! the next morning which may also be a coincidence. If you are going to go - get there before 7:45pm or be prepared to wait for your food, which by the way is a mighty large portion!

Two Brothers Studios - (Accommodation in Kalamaki)

Craige C

We have just returned from DA "Bruvvers" and like the previous entries mention were also a bit concerned from the earlier reports....first things first this is Greece and in Greece you expect and get a more basic lifestyle. However, the complex is very clean with the pool area washed and brushed down before people can even be bothered to get out of bed to claim the sunbeds! The studios are also clean and cleaned daily with towels and linen being changed twice a week. We did need to take care leaving the shower as the water didn't drain too well from the shower tray and the marble tiled floor - there's only a short shower curtain. Facilities are more than adequate with sufficient cooking utensils to get by with, but with it being so cheap to eat out we didn't bother. The fridge was more than able to freeze a bottle of water overnight to take to the beach, which takes about 15 minutes or so to reach. Save some space in your cases though - each room comes with a large kettle and 2 cups! The brother's are extremely helpful - we had a minor fittings problem with our apartment which was fixed within 24hrs and prior to getting back from the beach. Overall, this is an excellent place to stay for your hols if you can put up with a clean, helpful, quiet and most of all basic Greek way of life.

Dias - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Craige C

We visited the Dias 3 times during our stay and sampled alot of the Greek specialities. The portions were more than enough, the service speedy and the quality excellent. You will return if you enjoy sampling the various Greek dishes and I would definitely recommend the home made wine.

Michaelos - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Craige C

This is without doubt the best restaurant in Kalimaki. A family business within which you feel valued for your custom. The menu choice is more than enough to give you problems, and serious consideration should be given to the nightly special; I had the sea bream one evening and it was fantastic! The only down side is that it is about a 10-15 min walk along the Kalimaki to Zakynthos town road. If you are going to Kalimaki, this is the place to eat!

Paolo - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Craige C

We only ate here once during our 2 week stay and think we must have hit it on a bad day. The chef was apparrently off sick and although the service, selection and price were all reasonable; first impressions count and the quality was nothing special. A reasonable meal in pleasant surroundings with adequate service.

Parthenon Restaurant - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Craige C

This was the first restaurant we tried in Kalimaki and we were very impressed until we visited others and compared prices for the same quality. It is a very good restaurant with a great selection of meals (national and world). The service is very friendly and relatively quick considering how busy it gets. This place is a must even if you only want to have a pizza!

Lighthouse - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Craige C  (16 September 2002)

Unfortunately my comments only refer to breakfast as I'm not one to eat an 'English' whilst on holiday. However, if you do like to 'lard' it up for breakfast - this is the place to do it and cure your hangover at the same time (it's also on the way to the beach). Each breakfast is cooked individually to order, which can take some time, but the portions for the price (best by far) are huge and the quality can't be beat anywhere else in town. So get out of bed, get down to the lighthouse, chill whilst you watch the news and build up that appetite before tucking into a mighty large brekkie to set you up for the rest of the day.
