Maryland Reptile House

Places to Visit in Zante

Sarah W  (02 August 2003)

I would really recommend a visit to The Reptile House. It doesn't look much from the outside but is great value for money. The guide is provided by the female equivalent of Steve Urwin - she is very knowledgeable and entertaining! We got to see loads of different species of reptile and those that wanted to touch or hold got the opportunity to do so. I particularly liked Roxanne the chameleon and the Albeno snake.

Mary P  (27 July 2003)

HI THIS MARY JUST TO INFORM MY FRIENDS THAT WE HAVE MOVED ON THE MAIN ROAD KALAMAKI-LAGANAS .ABOUT 200m from main road T-junction laganas leading to the beach.entry for the reptile house is 6 euro per adult,4 euro per child.Remember I'm here to help you get over any fears of reptiles & to educate you abit about their lifestyle in captivity.Sorry to all my friends that went to Argassi to find me.All is well & i am still taking in stray animals.Thank you for visiting me & my pets.

Baz C  (18 July 2003)

Hi Mary and Petros,
How you doing? What made you move to Laganas and did you shut the Reptile Salloon down, let me know - BAZ

Claire P  (16 June 2003)

Excellent! My boyfriend and I visited from Alykes (as he is interested in snakes)and it is well worth the 6 Euros entry as you get to hold lots of differnt types of lizard and snakes including a boa constrictor and several pythons. They are gorgeous creatures and the handler is friendly and informative. I'd highly recommend going along and visiting.

As we had difficulties finding it (it has moved from Argassi to Laganas) I'll put some details on how to find it.

The reptile house has moved to Laganas. It is on the main road to Kalamaki, (just off the main drag of Laganas) on the left hand side of the road (going away from the main drag) past a taverna with fountains and a pasta place. It is not well signed at the moment but you can clearly see the fun castle bit (bungee trampolines are next to the road and easily seen by car). It is open from 6pm till midnight.

Nick A  (03 June 2003)

Just come back from Argassi.

Unfortunately the Fun Castle and Reptile House have moved to Laganas. We walked all the way from Argassi (aout 30 minutes) and there were no signs to say they were closed on the road. Having walked up the hill we were told they were closed and had moved.

So do not make the same mistake as us.

No doubt it is very good but IT IS NOT IN ARGASSI

i havent been to the reptile house YET but overall the holiday was REALLY good, i reccomend it to everyone, the only thing i would say is the beach is quite small but trust me, u r going to like it, so dont cancel!

Paul W (20 April 2003)

Me, my girlfriend and 3 year old daughter are going to Tsilivi Admirials on 3rd October 2003, but there doesn't appear to be much in Zante (according to some of the horror stories of this site).

Can anyone PLEEEEEASE tell me something good so I don't cancel the holiday. The weather is our main concern anyone been there in October? Let me know how the weather was for you.

Steve C  (28 October 2002)

most terrifying day of my life, but cured a 30 year phobia of snakes and have video evidence to prove it. Well worth a visit and excellent value

Leigh A  (29 September 2002)

A great day out! -Molly and James (2 and 4) loved running about in the playarea - plenty to keep them busy - nice and cool from the sun! They also loved the zoo downstairs - so did we!! very interesting and hands on!!! All the staff were very patient and helpful especially with the children. Well worth a visit or two!!!

Veronica D  (24 September 2002)

This was great.... I was terrified of the snakes..especially the smaller one's. Then when the Big Python came out i loved him...Dont know why! We went here on our last nite in Argassi and we def saved the best for last! :-)...

Carol S  (13 August 2002)

Great place for young children to run about - out of the hot sun. I took my 2 year old twin grandsons there twice and found the staff very helpful. Don't do what I did though and try to push a double buggy minus a front wheel(thanks to baggage control)up the steep hill. How I wished I had taken advantage of the free transport offered on the leaflet. The tour of the reptile house and farm by Mary was brilliant. I enjoyed the handling of the lizards and snakes just as much as the boys - so much so that we returned later in the week. Many thanks to Mary for her patience with the twins. She also does a marvellous job taking in abandoned and ill-treated cats, dogs and goats. Would highly recommend a visit.

Laura W  (07 August 2002)

What a fabulous place....play areas outside and inside and a wonderful enclosure full of amazing creatures! Mary made the tour so interesting telling us all the facts and allowing hands-on to the snakes and reptiles. (My 6year old spoke non-stop for 3 days about all the animals she had seen and held!)PS More advertising is needed to get more visitors-no tourists from our part of the island(ALYKES)had heard of it and a new roadsign is needed. We nearly missed it!!

Kirsty M  (03 August 2002)

Mary the reptile lady was brilliant. I hate snakes but by the end even I touched one. The whole reptile and animal experience was brilliant and I would recommend this place as a must to visit

Alison T  (01 August 2002)

We though this was an excellent place to visit. I particularly enjoyed the reptile house, it was great to handle the reptiles up close. A brilliant talk by Mary the handler very informative and interesting. the kids loved the 'Wacky-Warehouse', the staff were very friendly and helpful, especially the man who walked round and round after my 3 year old son Travis as he kept crashing into the pillars when he was in the battery operated cars. We visited twice during our two week stay though the children (Jade,Lewis,Curtis and Travis) would have visited every day if we had let them. Did the funcastle area used to be a nightclub, as it looks like it?

We went here on a very hot day in July, just expecting to have a look around. Holding the reptiles was great. I used to be scared of snakes, but not any more. The lady who took us around was very knowledgeable and pleasant. Worth a visit.

Charlie B  (28 September 2001)

Been going to the Island for 3 yera now and I've heard the car going arond with the big speakers on it saying"Wacky Warehouse" so many time but this time we went to go and have a look. It was great, Pythons, boas, geckos, skinks, lizards, racoons?? Loads of farm animals and upstairs an place for the kids and bar for the adults with video games. Totally enjoyed the visit and got some great photos too!!

Phil Z  (09 September 2001)

We all enjoyed the reptile house, especially the kids who got to handle lots of lizards and snakes. The cafe has very little and charges a lot for it.

David A  (07 August 2001)

Forget about the boring Blue Caves and the over- hyped Shipwreck this is the place to visit whilst in Zante. Don't be put off by the appearance of the place - 1500drm well spent - handling snakes and lizards, etc. Guaranteed to rid you of any creepy phobia!
