Maryland Reptile House

Places to Visit in Zante

Kate W  (20 June 2007)        10/10

We visited Marys reptile house  last week with hubby(likes snakes but wont touch one) daughter and her boyfriend. Well we had a fantastic time...Mary is a lovely lady who is passionate about her reptiles. My hubby actually got to handle quite a few snakes but I think a lot of persuasion is needed before he lets me have one!!! This place is well worth a visit  and there is a park outside for kids. Taffy a snake fanatic was helping Mary and also her daughter who im sure will grow up to be a "mini me". Keep up the good work...we loved our visit. Highly recommended

Lesley P  (18 June 2007)        10/10

We visited the reptile house a few weeks ago and it was fab. Does anyone know if it has its own web site. If so could you please post the full address on here so that i can go onto it. Cheers

click to enlargeclick to enlargeWe visited the Reptile House 26th May, hi to all.  What a great lady Mary is - my 13 year old son took us to the Reptile House and the rest of us had no intention of touching anything, however Mary's confidence carried us along and we left having all held big and little snakes, lizards and toads and all really pleased with our visit.  Great story to tell when you get home, we've watched the video twice already.   We also enjoyed a friendly welcome to the play area and trampolines each night.  Thanks - Dawn, Nick, Adam and "Jackie" x

Sam C  (04 February 2007)        10/10

Jack T  (11 October 2006)

Hi Mary, we visited your reptile house quite a few times in August - it was the best thing about my holiday, we were staying at the Caravel hotel and I came with my Grandma and my new friend Alex.  We tried our hardest to get Maryangela to smile for our camera, but this was the best we got!! Hope she's still got the teddy bear.  Thank you for showing me all the snakes and especially the scorpion, it was really cool  .  Hope to see you again, my school friends thought I was so brave and loved looking at the snake skins you gave me

:  Sept 06. My grandson Charlie 3, and daughter Hayley had a fabulous time in the reptile house. Charlie loves reptiles but was not too keen to handle any, but Mary was very patient with him and by the end of our visit he happily held the snakes except the last one was too big so he had to sit on the floor to hold it.  Do not forget your camera if you intend to visit (as I did). Mary very kindly took some photies of Charlie which I look forward to seeing on the site soon.  Many thanks Mary. 10/10

Visited the reptile house and had great fun. This was one of the main things I wanted to do whilst in Tsilivi and it was in no way a disappointment. There was a lot of different animals to hold (no spiders thank god) and the snakes were great. Even held the Scorpion which I was really, really unsure about and had insisted that I wouldn't do up until I got there.

There was lots of interesting information and the visit was made really enjoyable. Will definately visit again when we return to Zante next year to see what is new.

Thank you from Ken, Sam and Lee

Morag B  (23 September 2006)

Went to Reptile house twice in a week.It was my son and grandaughters favourite place. He is 12, she is 5.We liked it alot to, as you learn such a lot about all  the snakes etc.. You don t often get the chance to hold that many different species of reptiles. Mary is just full of interesting info on them. you can tell she is passionate about them . Also Maryangela is showing signs of being a very capable assistant quite soon . Thanks for everything. Morag,  x

Sara H  (12 September 2006)

Hi everyone,

Just thought i'd say that anyone going to Tsilivi on holiday should definatley go to the Reptile house. It was amazing and me and my boyfriend absolutley loved it!!! I am the biggest wimp but Mary made me feel very comfortable round the reptiles that i ended up holding everything we could.
Marys daughter was lovely and her puppy (who i had trouble dragging my boyfriend away from) was very playful. Overall it was worth the money and they were all lovely

Thanks Mary, good luck

Sarah L  (02 September 2006)

long walk to find it but 10 year old son was determined we were going. doesn't look much from the outside so 12 year old and dad didn't go in. mary is very informative and we held all the snakes-can't show those photos to grandma!! good for half an hour with reptiles children a bit old for fairground rides

Jd   (22 August 2006)

Glad you have moved to Tsilivi as it saved us travelling to Laganas! Once again a perfect way to while away an evening . Would reccomend to anyone with or without kids....the trampolines and bouncy castles hit the spot with the younger element and the reptiles wow everyone. Good luck with the business you deserve the best.

I came to the reptile house in october 2004, and i went a little crazy held what ever i could and kissed the snakes. I don't know if you will remember me but as soon as i get the chance i will e-mail the pictures to you as i have only just found this site. I was wondering if you could e-mail me and tell me the type of species one of your snakes are. It was quite small, white, red and black and it's head was kind of small. I am thinking about getting one. Thank you, Terri-Louise Pires

One of the first places we visited on our arrival in Zakynthos.  The lady who runs this place is really friendly and she certainally knew her stuff!  My bf and I own quite a few reptiles, so it was only natural we visited!  Held Ross a 40kg python and Coco the parrot who swears a lot in Greek!  She also has pacu pirahna, a tame bull snake, 3 iguanas, a couple of tarantulas, a few king snakes, milk snakes etc as well as a 40yr old tortoise and at the moment she has a couple of rescued baby crocs.  Seriously at only 6euros per adult to enter, its well worth a couple hours of your time!

Me and my boyfriend have just returned from Laganas. The reptile house was brilliant, it made a change to visit there before the bars. Here we are with the largest snake in there (he did have a phobia of them but this was one way to get over it). We got to hold most of the reptiles and the guide knew her stuff. Oh not forgetting the parrot. We recommend this to everyone.

Hello Mary. My name's Kirsty I visited the reptile house with my twin sister and our boyfriends a couple of weeks back and I just wanted to say how brilliant I thought it was.I felt hesitant at first when dan told me where we were going and I cant forget the look on my sister's boyfriend's face when you passed him a snake to hold! The photo's are great, can't wait to show everyone. I hope coco's behaving herself. You seem brilliant at what you do and made the experience so enjoyable, just wanted to say thanks.

Lyn H  (10 July 2005)

At first, we were a little disappointed as it was very small but soon realised that there was a wealth of information to be heard. The Australian owner (whose name escapes me, sorry!) was like a female version of Steve Irwin, bursting with knowledge and obvious enthusiasm for the reptiles. My daughter got to hold all of them (at least the ones that don't bite!) and at one point had hold of three at the same time - I took the photos. A visit well worth it .

Reptile house was amazing - took our two girlfriends (22yrs old) who were scared of snakes and not too interested when hearing about it, after going they loved it and we were able to get some great pictures! Mary is friendly and knows her stuff - anyone with a fear of snakes which they would like to overcome should definately go. And anyone who isn't interested should also go because they will probably enjoy it. Excellent photo opportunities!! Thought would only be in there a few minutes but ended up staying for ages and am going to go back again before we go (am am writing this from the internet cafe in Laganas!)

Mary P  (02 July 2005)

click to enlargeclick to enlargeclick to enlargethis is mary. Thanks to everyone who has visited. we are situated on the main road kalamaki-laganas where the trampolines & bungee trampolines are.Across the road from rumours bar.thank you.if any one has pictures of my daughter with snakes i will apreciate it if you can email to me.

Geoff S  (29 June 2005)

Siobhan P  (03 June 2005)

Went to the reptile house and loved it. The woman knew her stuff and was so friendly. Wasnt able to hold the spider though due to its hairs, but held plenty of snakes and lizards, even a large iguana! Got some great pics! Thank you!

I will be visiting Zakynthos in June and one of my sons is very interested in visiting the reptile house. Where exactly is it located? Is it easy to find? Thank you!

Siobhan P  (04 May 2005)

I really fancy the idea of visiting the reptile house which will be in 3 weeks time. Will it be open then and is it easy to find within Laganus?

Simon F  (31 October 2004)

Thanks Mary,
We loved the reptile house. Never thought i'd see karen hold a snake, she loves them now. Frightened me holding the black scorpion though eeek! Highly recommend a visit to all!!!!

Simon & Karen

Lisa   (29 October 2004)

We found this place hard to find as not many people on the Island seemed to know about it, but it was well worth the effort.

This place was fantastic, both my daughters loved it. My eldest has a fascination about creepy crawlies and this just made her holiday. To be able to learn about these creatures and hold them at the same time is great.

Even I held a snake which is something I couldnt ever have imagined I'd do!!

Mandy   (25 October 2004)

Well i havent been yet but my lil sis is real excited as she loves reptiles...i cant wait to take her. We will be visiting June '05...
cant wait, although im a little scared of spiders :S

Julieann S  (17 October 2004)

WE LOVED THE REPTILE HOUSE. MY SON DID NOT WANT TO HOLD OR TOUCH ANY OF THE REPTILE'S BUT AT THE END HE WAS TOUCHING AND HOLDING ALL THE SNAKES ESPECIALLY BIG ROSS! GREAT PLACE TO VISIT AND THEY WERE VERY FRIENDLY AND INFORMATIVE. DEFINETLY GO FOR SOMETHING DIFFERENT!

Hi ya I had the best 6 weeks of my life working with you mary!!!!!!!!!! Hope you are well, I am now back at school. I hope to come back out next year!!!! lots of love lucy, steve (dad)

Lisa S  (16 September 2004)

We had a brilliant guided tour a week ago at the Reptile House - it's definitely worth a visit! It doesn't look much from the outside but there's a good collection of snakes, and there's a few gheckos and a scorpion and an impressive looking iguana. You get to hold about 6 or 7 different snakes, including a 10 foot rock python that gets draped around your shoulders - definitely an experience not to be missed and really good value at only 6 euros for an adult!

Mary P  (19 August 2004)

HI THIS IS MARY THE OWNER OF THE REPTILE HOUSE.WE WILL BE OPEN TILL THE LAST TOURIST LEAVES THE ISLAMD...SO YES PROBABLY TILL THE END OF OCTOBER.MANDA I'M SO SORRY THAT SOMEONE TRIED TO SELL YOU SNUFF OR WHATEVER ,BUT THAT PERSON HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MY BUSNESS WHICH HAS BEEN RUNNING 10 YEARS & NEVER COME ACROSS A COMPLAINT LIKE THAT.THE ONLY EXPLANATION I CAN GIVE IS THAT IN A TOURIST RESORT LIKE LAGANAS ANYONE CAN BE ANYTHING SINCE TOURISTS ARE HERE FOR 1 OR 2 WEEKS ONLY AND NEVER LEARN THE TRUTH ..SO DON'T JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS NEXT TIME.THANKS.

Jane M (15 August 2004)

I would still like to know if the Fun Castle and Reptile House in Laganas is open at the end of October, does anyone know?

Jane M  (10 August 2004)

Will the fun castle and reptile house be open the 20th-27th Oct this year (2004)

Manda   (28 July 2004)

Watch the bloke who owns this place, he offered me 'snuffy nose' as they seem to call 'coke' in Greece. I didnt quite understand him at first but he demonstrated by pretending to snort some and then asked for 50 euros! I thought this place was supposed to be for kids! Just a warning as Im an adult (supposedly!) and was only walking passed.

Quite disgusted that Ive been coming to Greece for the last 10 years and never before heard any mention of drugs until now.

Enomones E  (05 July 2004)

we went to the fun and reptial house 3 years ago and it was great all off my family liked it,it was great and i hope i go again in the future.

Rich L  (25 June 2004)

to mary we absolutely loved it in your reptile house it was really cool

see you next year
from tolly & seth

Sam R  (09 June 2004)

hi mary it's sam

i loved your reptile house it was the best in the world

Conor F  (19 April 2004)

It was da best the reptile's were really cool and the fun castle was really good

Rachel C  (07 January 2004)

The reptile house was absolutely amazing! We went there on our last night not really expecting much but it was fab. I was petrified but mary the lady there was really good...didn't give you much of a chance to think about it...before I knew it I had a snake wrapped around my arm! From there on it was onwards and upwards and ended up holding everything - even a boa constrictor and tarantula! Truly brill experience, not to be missed. All of the animals are rescued from the island and they are treatede so well - so don't forget to leave a contributuin towards food for the animals!!!

p.s we have left some pics, proof to everyone who knows us that we really did hold the constrictor and lizards!!!

Tara A  (24 October 2003)

The reptile house was great value for money. the lady was extremely knowedgeable and it was good to be able to handle snakes, lizards, spiders and toads. The animals are all well cared and in good condition, considering that they are all rescued from Zakynthos including the aligators. well worth the 6euros per adult. a must

Leanne F  (15 October 2003)

As it was raining we decided to visit reptile house, so we got a taxi from Argassi to Laganas (E12) Taxi dropped us off right outside. Although when we arrived Mary had only just turned up herself, so was still opening up, subsequently we got a tour of reptiles to ourselves.
It was completely mad in there, she makes you want to touch these snakes and spiders.
At one point our camera ran out of batteries so I popped next door and when I returned hubby and the kids had all got a lizard sat on their heads, chatting as though it was an everyday thing.
I recommended this place to other families at our hotel but it seems that it shut down just after we visited (01/10/03) shame really as it was an enjoyable morning.
We didn't use any of the funhouse facilities there as it wass raining when we visited, but should imagine you could spend a day there with the kids if the weather is nice.

Anne L  (26 September 2003)

Just returned from Zante. It took us a while to find the Reptile House. We asked a lot of the locals and they didn t seem to know where it was. Anyway we found it in the end and wow.....are we glad we did. Both Brian (HUBBY) had never handled snakes before and we took to it like a duck to water. Mary gave us the confidence to do it. She was excellent, knew all her stuff. I especially enjoyed the neck massage from the python.
Wouldn t hesitate to go back again.
Thanks Mary.

Sam W  (28 August 2003)

Just arrived back from Zante and about to return to work...how depressing. Still, although we had fun at the reptile house i'm not sure i'd swap places with Mary. She was a great (and essntially laid-back) reptile guide, my friend Nicky and I both braved the snakes and scorpion. Nicky managed the spider and still has the webs it spun on her hands to prove it..ok, not quite but we DO have a photo. Had a great time and would love to return!

Julie   (10 August 2003)

Just back from Laganas great time, we visited the reptile house, well worth it Mary is great we didn't like snakes etc but by the time we left we had held them and had them round our neck. If your going give it a visit.
