Gastronomy - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Darren T  (01 October 2008)        10/10

My partner and i went here after being told about the place by an English guy on top of the Keri cliff!!

What an awesome restaurant, it's slightly more expensive than the one's in kalamaki town but well worth it, they only have around 15 items on the menu, as the waiter said, they keep it simple and perfect each dish.

We arrived there around 9pm on a saturday night and the place was empty, by 10 it was full of Greek people, i always say that if it's good for the locals then it sure is the place to be.

I had 'Chicken B on my mind' and my partner had another chicken dish, both amazingly cooked, i had rice with mine, she had crinkle cut home made fries which were lovely.

The toilets were by far the most impressive i have ever seen on the island.

Best meal of the holiday by far and will definately be going back to Gastro Nomi

I've been to Kalamaki 3 times now and have just returned again.

Before my Top 2 restaurants were Dias and Michaelos, which were again both outstanding but ESSENCE blew them both out of the water.

It's located on the old site of Gastronomy, about 600yards past Michaelos on the right hand side.

Upon sitting down we were given a free large bottle of water, ok not much but a very nice touch.

We ordered our starters and Main Course and while waiting we were given a plate of samplers which were compliments of the chef, truly outstanding.

The Beetroot and Cream Cheese starter is to die for, and the rack of Lamb main is one of the best meals i've EVER had.

Essence has just 7 tables and is run by just 2 people, the Austrian head chef and his girlfiend.

An idea of cost, we had a starter each, A main each and the taste of Greece dessert for 2. A Glass of Wine each and an extra bottle of water. Came to 44Euro, a touch more expensive than the other restaurants in Kalamaki but so worth it.

We will go back for sure, and after out recommendations a few people went and had an equally lovely meal

Here's a couple of picture, the starters (Beetroot with Cream Cheese, Chicken Breast Nachos) and The Main Course Lamb
