Dias Studios - (Accommodation in Kalamaki)

Julie I

We are a family of nine (one family of 4 and one of 5) travelling to Kalamaki on August 14th 2005 for 2 weeks and staying at these studios. I have read all comments and presume that these studios are very good. We have been to Kalamaki once before in 2001 and were wondering if the building work has spoilt it a lot? We stayed at the Kiki's and spent a lot of time at the Daisy's . Also is Fawlty Towers still open and showing movies? Any feedback much appreciated!!

Kalamaki Resort - (Resorts in Zante)

Julie I

hey everyone,
in 2001 we came to kalamaki for the first time, after staying in argassi twice, and although we enjoyed argassi it was a different kind of enjoyment!! this year (2005) we are returning to the wonderful kalamaki for a second time. i have read lots of your comments, and my only worry is that they haven't spoilt it to much adding on more buildings etc!!
thirteen of us came on our last visit all different ages ranging from 40somethings down to 8, both sexes and all of us fell in love with the place. the beach, the restaurants (some of the best on the island) and the bars. we liked michaelo's, mermaids, fawlty towers and we also spent a lot of time at the daisy's pool bar!!! this year we are staying at the dias studios and we really can't wait!! we are all from yorkshire too, but we know when we are on to a good thing and kalamaki is a good thing!!!
this year there will be 9 of us going out on sunday the 14th of august for 2 weeks from east midlands so anyone else who is going then maybe we can meet up and say "hi" we love zakynthos and our dream would be to re-locate out there in years to come.....maybe i'll do the lottery this week!!!!
to everyone who is visiting zakynthos and kalamaki this summer have a great holiday, relax and enjoy atmosphere that is greece!!!! thanx

This is to Con...WELL SAID!!! Greece and her islands are one of my most fave places ever! Zakynthos is a beautiful island with some of THE nicest people!!! I am sooo jealous of all you lucky people who live and work there!! I know everyone is entitled to their opinions but every where has places that could be improved!! I have been to Kalamaki once and Argassi three times and am returning to Kalamaki this summer...and I cannot wait!! To everybody on Zakynthos be very proud of your island because it is a little gem, and to all of you visitors now and in the future, look after this island, and respect its people and culture and most of all...ENJOY!!!!

Hey Julie,

We have been to Zante 4 times already and will be returning this August! If you need to know more about the Exotica read Jeanette Hindles previous comments on this page! She always stays at The Exotica! As for "Things to Do" there are a multitude of things!!
 1) Round Island Boat Trip...nice day out,(can be a bit choppy), see Smugglers, stop off at Beaches
only reachable by boat!
2)Zakfari Jeep Safari...Brill round island land trip in off road vehicles! See customer comments on
this site! Quite expensive but worth it. Swimming stop, Smugglers wreck from
above...you know THE MOST common pic of the wreck. Lunch stop and back to resort!
3)Water Park.....This is new since my laast visit so cannot comment..will be trying it myself this visit!
4)Turtle spotting....Go out in boats for a cruise whilst hunting for Turtles!
Still some things I haven't done myself...sure you will find something that suits your family!
As for the evenings...you can do whatever. Think the Exotica has some good entertainment programmes so you may decide to stop there for your entire holiday. But personally I like to go out of an evening, trying out all the good quality restaurants and Tavernas which you can find especially in Kalamaki. Michaelos is good, and Mermaids and Paulos Ive been told though not tried it myself! Mindst you we are self catering so have to really. Something for everyone I'd say!! Cave bar for great cocktails and views...Daisy's does a great greek night, you will be able to find somewhere you like I am Positive! Great beach for sunbathing and swimming, can walk out miles before if gets deep, bur best go to Argassi for watersports,eg jet-skis, parascending, banana boats etc!
Don't know when you are travelling but it is very hot in the summer months, nights included so be prepared for that. Also take something to repel the mozzies, especially in rooms and out at nite! Zante is a great place, and we go as a family 5 kids 4 adults and we all love it so!(2 families) And our kidz range from 15 down to 10 and they love it! Be warned the Airport is a bit of a disaster but it is only a tiny part of the holiday and we have been 5 times this year and it hasn't put us off at all!
Have a great holiday...sure you will and come and join us all in Zanteme forum, where you can post questions and we will try and answer them as honestly as we can!

P.S not to put you off at all Greece is an earthquake zone and we experienced one in 2003...but it wasn't that bad just a bit of rumbling and shaking and we are still going back anyway.  Like I said been on 4 visits and this was our 1st tremor!! Quite exciting really, but it wasn't a major one....5.4 on the richter I think!!!!!

Krinas Hotel - (Accommodation in Argassi)

Julie I

Hey Danielle, Have been to Argassi 3 times with my family! We have stayed at the Krinas once! There was 13 of us altogether and this included kids from 16 down to 8! Inever saw much of my 16 year old son....who made friends the same day with some more kids who were stating there and also the greek relatives of the family that own the Krinas! Yes it is true that the sun does leave half the pool area in the shade from mid afternoon, but that can be a blessing coz it gets really hot in the summer months! The accomodation that we were given was quite good it was a two bedroomed apartment that was kind of in the middle of the complex! Looked a bit like a row of little bungalows and there were only 4 apartments in this block! My brother-in-law and his family stayed behind us in the two storey chalet type accomodation and they were really spacious! The staff at the Krinas were really great when we stayed there in 2003 but I guess things can change! Miriram and Katerina are the mainstay at the poolbar and are really nice and friendly. Can't remeber kidz ever paying for an ice cream once!

They do nice food and arrange Greek nites and pool games once a week! Like I said this was 2003 so it might be slightly different when you go! All in all we had a good holiday apart from my husband going down with salmonella on the first night(Confirmed as salmonella on our return to U.K), not from food at the Krinas I might add and we also had a slight earthquake aas well( EXPERIENCE)! Argasssi is a nice compact resort with most accomodations, restaurants and bars centred in one main area! Up the hill to the back and left and right!! You'll see when you get there! There are lots of great places to eat and be merry and I am sure you and your family will have a great holiday! The beach at Argassi is not all that good but it has all the watersports going on! Kalamaki beach is much better for sunbathing and you can walk out in the sea for ages before it gets too deep!  All in all you should like the Krinas and Argassi so have a great holiday and enjoy the atmosphere that makes Greece wot it is! Don't expect luxury it is not like Spain or other European destinations but that is the main reason that we prefer it! The Greeks are wonderful warm friendly people and Zante is a beautiful island. Get out and about and try and explore! And watch out for the mozzies they can really bite!

Kalamaki Resort - (Resorts in Zante)

Julie I

Hey June, you will definitely like Kalamaki! Haven't stayed in either of the accomodations you have mentioned but you can check out customer comments on this site under Hotels and Apartments in Kalamaki! But Kalamaki itself is a nice laid back spread out resort! It is very flat unlike Argassi which is very hilly! Lots of great tavernas, bars and restaurants, some of the best on the island in fact! You can always find a quiet spot to enjoy the wonderful greek atmosphere! It is very near the end of the runway, so can be quite busy with aircraft on certain days! But it is quite fun plane spotting!!! The beach is one of Kalamakis best features! It is very pale fine sand and it stretches right round the bay to Laganas! You can always find a spot there!! Walk out for quite a way into the sea before it gets deep! Lots of quiet country lanes if you like a leisurley stroll of an evening, but very hot in the summer months so best to find a nice cool spot with a nice drink and a good book methinks!

Lots of olive groves and it is quite rural.....bliss really!! You will love it there I am sure! Also for more info and a nice chat about Zante and Kalamaki you could always find www.zante.me.uk and join me and everyone else who loves ZANTE!!!

Thomas Cook - (Tour Operators in Zante)

Julie I  (21 June 2005)

Just to say....we went with Sunset to Argassi in 2003!! They were brill....and not just for so called "Poor people who cant afford a proper holiday"! Never had any need to bother the rep...and why oh why do people insist on blaming the rep for everything like the weather....the airport, not any tour ops fault..although think they could put the heat on a bit to get the blooming thing finished, the fact that this ot that restaurant was rubbish etc etc!! In my opinion the reps are there to make sure that you get from Airport to Resort safely....are there in case of emergencies...illness, crimes against their clients, accidents and trouble with the law!!
Of course they should try and sort out any greivances which arise at accomodations...but generally I have found that by approaching the management and asking nicely things do get done...eventually!! Remeber this is Greece and things get done on Greek time!!! These are just my opinions and in no way am I saying that anyone else'e are wrong!! We have travelled to Zante on 4 occasions...using First Choice twice, Unijet(part of First Choice), SUNSET, part of Thos Cook as is JMC...and this year we are using Kosmar!!
I cannot say that one is better or worse than another....but thats is because we have never really had any major catastrophe!! The only time any of our holidays were spoilt was in 2003 when hubby got salmonella (not tour ops fault) and he was ill for 14 days...was only confirmed as salmonella on our return to UK....and we had an earth quake (not tour ops fault) ..but that really didn't spoil our hols!!
All in all I would say that the reps do a stirling job under difficult circumstances...and lets be fair us Brits as a nation do like to complain!!! Its in our blood!!! I am sorry if some of you have had a rotten holiday...but you cannot blame every single thing on the reps!!!  Courtesy works both ways....if you approach them with the right attitude...then you will get the help you require!! Go in all guns blazing...then I myself would not want to help!!! I know it is their job, but they must really get ticked off with people just moaning for the sake!!!
Me and my family , and my in-laws and my freinds...would like to thank all the reps who have ever had to look after us all!!! And we are eternally grateful to the powers that be that our holiday has never needed the service of the reps.....well not emergency service anyhow!!!!

     THANK YOU ALL!!!!

Julie I

    Re William:
Whilst everybody is entitled to their opinions....good or bad...I feel that your comments about people were a bit offensive and rude!!!! Whilst I am sure that everyone is sorry that you were disappointed with your accomodation and holiday in general....there was no need to be personal!!!  You would probobally class me as one of those people uprooted from " a council estate and dumped" there...which I might add I am not....and even if I was it is not for you to comment!!!
Greece ....the Greeks...and Zante in particular...are the Best....and I think if you had shown a bit more tolerance and relaxed into the atmosphere that we all go to Greece for...then I think you would maybe have had a different experience!!!
Maybe you ought to try the Caribbean next time......or......Lands End!!!

There were lots of people there but didn't have to queue for long at all!!! Never saw the kids for the entire time we were there!!! Sat under an olive tree and chilled....it was brill!!! Food and drink very expensive I thought!!! Smuggled our own food in....which is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN!!! Doctors Surgery - (Doctors/Chemists in Zante)

Julie I

Needed to go to pharmacy whilst out in August after hubby developed a abcess on his tooth!!! The lady was very helpful and promptly dispensed me with a course of Amoxcil...an antibiotic!! They cost 6 euros....which is less than the prescription charge at home!!!! Told me tell hubby to dissolve them in water...as this was easier on his stomach!?! Yuk....but he did do it! Took one tablet and the abcess promptly burst!!! Dont think it was the medication....but he continued to take them and suffered no more ill effects!!! All in all  thought they were very helpful!!!

Dias Studios - (Accommodation in Kalamaki)

Julie I

To Jackie, as far as I am aware all rooms have air con..you can hire air con and safety deposit boxes together for I think it was 40 euros...and safety deposit boxes which are in wardrobes screwed down for 14 euros!!! All rooms have pool views....and we stayed on the ground floor which was very convenient for getting sunbeds when we got up....but there were never any probs with getting the beds anyway!!!! Rooms on the the 3rd and 4th floors have brill views from the back and the front!!! You can go onto the very top floor and see the airport and everything.....brill!!! The Dias is probobally one of the nicest accomodations we have stayed in....the rooms are very spacious ans always immaculate!!! Also the ground floor rooms were cool so we never needed the air con....and we took our own fans!! The windows are double glazed with upvc shutters so it was always cool on an evening....a god send in the heat!!!   Am sure you will have a brill time here.....and Labros Takis, Nicos and all the family will make your stay an enjoyable one...and you will feel like part of the family when you go....which made us all very sad!  !!! ALso the restaurant is fab....you can see comments for this on the restaurant section of this site.....Kalamaki...Restaurants!

We would def go back here......at the drop of a hat.....its brill!
