Garden Village - (Accommodation in Kalamaki)

Just back from holiday and stayed at Garden Village Apartments.  Loved it.  We always go for high rated holidays and this was typical of most with good quality accommodation, good location, etc but the thing that made this site better than the rest were the personal touches made by Carol the owner.  The food at the bar is excellent, BBQ on Friday night very good.  A good proportion of guests were on their 2nd or 3rd visit and the atmosphere is very friendly (encouraged by Carol and Adonis, the bar manager who amazingly remember everyones names).

Tips for visit:  don't do First choice excursions through rep, book at one of the many tour operators in the main street.  That will save you at least 10 euros per person.

ps I would have rated a thumbs up but there is a glitch with your website and it wouldn't change.

Hera Restaurant - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

We went here at the recommendation of our Bar manager Adonis who used to work here.   I had swordfish and my husband had the greek special which contained a helping of moussaka, stuffed vine leaves, meat balls served with rice and veg.  The food was very good, very hot (and we got free glasses of wine when we mentioned Adonis).  They gave complimentary spirits at the end ot the meal (Ouzo and a cinammon scented spirit) and melon and banana chunks.  The waiters were very charming and when I asked could we have a candle on the table to be romantic they delivered a vase with flowers in too!   We went again on our last night and it was just as good.

2nd time to try to do this, ratings doesn't seem to work so here are my real ratings:

location:  excellent

quietness: average (local scooter drivers and cockerels)

cleanliness: excellent

Loved the apartments and the location very convenient.  Carol made excellent apartments special by her personal touches and friendliness.  Right from the start we felt at home.  Fresh flowers in room and on every table in the bar area just one example.  Bar food very good.  Lots of guests on 2nd or 3rd visit so that speaks for itself.  Adonis who runs the bar is very efficient and very easy to get on with.  He also recommended restaurants which were very good.

Don't do First choice excursions, use tour operators on main street - 10 euros per person cheaper and better coaches.

Mermaids - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

The food was very good and varied from trad Greek food to fast food.  The presentation was the best we had all week with large square plates with herbs and spices drizzled over the edges - very pretty.  However....we are 40 somethings and found it was really geared to wards the young people with loud music, TV screens, etc.  Also we like our bread on a plate not balanced on a serviette.  To be positive we did enjoy the food and the service was very efficient and very fast (a bit too fast to be relaxing).  If you have teenagers they will love it!

Ratings still not working so ......
We liked it.

Bakkus Grill (or Vakhos) was recommended to us by our barman who used to work there.  Marios the owner was very welcoming and the food was excellent.  My husband had lamb kleftiko which was presented wrapped in foil in flames to melt the cheese and coat the lamb and potatoes (see photo). I had Greek chicken which was extremely tasty.  Could have done with larger plates since the generous portions were in danger of sliding off the plate.  It was a friendly place and Marios a good host.
