Mavrikos Hotel - (Accommodation in Tsilivi)

Phil M (26 May 2002)

Stayed here in early May 2002. The hotel is a quiet family-type of accomodation with friendly staff with good english spoken by all the Greek staff with British staff in the bars so no probs ordering what you need. The only problem we found with having two small kids (6 & 8) - was the pool was far too deep, in the shallow end you only have to step out a couple of yards and it's over your head with a very steep gradient down to the deep end where it's 10-12ft deep (why, I don't know, because there are "No Diving" signs all round the pool!). As a result we spent the entire holiday in another hotel's pool down in Tsilivi itself, only about 3-4 mins walk but meant we had to take all the inflatables etc with us which was a bit of a pain and might be worth a consideration if you too have small kids! Apart from that it was a nice friendly place to stay with the night entertainment being along the lines of a quiz and bingo etc. We found the island beautiful - you must hire a car or scooter to get around to appreciate what everyone says about it - but as we usually go to Spain or the islands, where they really cater for kids' entertainment, we found it was hard work keeping our two amused as they just don't seem to do enough fo keep the kids entertained at night and found we had to take colouring books and Gameboys out at night for them! We would return here as it's so lovely......but not with the kids!

Judging by the other comments here, they've obviously had a shake up. The staff were really polite and very friendly. In Greece I don't think the service anywhere would rate as "Excellent" purely because they're so laid back about everything- there's one pace - SLOW! It was no slower or faster here than anywhere. The food though was excellent with really good variety but also the cheapest prices and the kids menu was great too and by far and away the cheapest we found in Tsilivi, in early May it was just 1.70 euros for kids to eat. Word must have got round too, when we found it at the end of our first week it was very quiet while Popeye's that it overlooks was packed but at the end of our hols it was quite full every night with the same faces showing back the next night.Recommended very highly!

We ate here a few times - that was before we found The Contessina overlooking Popeyes - the staff are lovely and friendly and the food was very good with better than average prices.
