We booked our day trip to Kefalonia via one of the street vendors. They are not pushy, and will give you as much information as you require. We had an excellent day, the trip was well run, our guide was superb. The monastery of St. Gerassimos for us was the highlight of our holiday, we were fortunate enough to be in the monastery whilst a service was being held. The crypt was opened and the congregation were given the opportunity to fle past and kiss the feet of St, Gerassimos, yes the remains of the Saint are in the crypt, which when the front is opened are on full view. We were indeed privilaged to observe this service, it was the day after the USA disaster and all on the trip took the opportunity to light candles for all those affected.

We 'cruised' on the mantalena, this was the least enjoyable of the excursions that we booked. An overcrowded boat with high priced not very nice food on board. The shipwreck was O.K. beautiful setting, but did not stop long enough to fully enjoy the experience, when we got there on the 'fastest cruiser' there were four other cruisers already moored and the bay and beach were crowded. However as previously stated the snorkelling in the caves was fantastic. On the whole the majority of the day is spent on a very overcrowded boat looking at coastline, if you were willing to stand and wait for a turn to look at the view.
