Down Under - (Bars in Kalamaki)

Scott S  (24 July 2001)

Me and my girlfriend Carol just got back from Zante today and I can tell you, you will have the best night ever going to "Down Under", but only if you sit at the bar!!! Those guys (2 Aussies Nick and George) and a guy from England who looks very hard called Carl (or Col maybe) are great fun. They get you absolutely wasted and give you more free alcohol than what you paid for all night and they do it to everyone, not just us! We met another couple out there and together we showed ourselves up something terrible, and we didn't go back there after one night of throwing water everywhere, dancing on tables and nicking their signed rugby ball (we gave it back)! Say hi from Scott and Carol if you go there, and remember to sit at the bar!

White House Apartments - (Accommodation in Kalamaki)

Scott S  (24 July 2001)

Me and my girlfriend got back from the Whitehouse studios today. It is okay, the room was very small with a tiny wardrobe not big enough for two people really. The showers have no curtain rail, there was not enough cutlery and the maids came at 9 or 10 every morning, which is ridiculous cos we were still recovering from the night before, so we hardly ever had our room cleaned! There is no reception whatsoever, so go over to the place opposite for anything you need. Only the son speaks English, so trying talking to the Mum or Dad and they just say "The boy Kostas" and point to him. You can get a safe from here for 6000 drakmars (£1 = 500 drakmars). Also, rent a fan from there, or we hired ours from a supermarket called "Limnos" on the main road. The appartments are very basic but they were pleasant and although it backs onto a greek house, don't be put off, but if you are unlucky the dog might start barking all night like he did last night and I couldn't sleep. Also, myself and the guy next door had our shorts nicked from the balcony one night (bottom floor), so don't leave anything out to dry just in case. A tip for turtle spotting - go to Laganas beach and hire a pedalo and get a mask and snorkel. We swam with one and held onto its back - there were loads there and you know where they are because the glass bottom boats hover around them. Don't bother hiring a pedalo from Kalamaki - we did twice and saw nothing. Any more info you need email me: scott.saunders@cwcom.net
