Sugar Reef - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Gary & Elspeth  (21 November 2004)

Going to Kalamaki?, you must try Sugar Reef. We were there last week in Sept/first 2 weeks Oct this year. Sugar reef quickly became our favourite eaterie; "Angela, your pasta's were top notch, we loved your reef chicken and badly miss your pesto bread".
We had a superb time on the evening's we went to Sugar Reef a real friendly place with great food and quality drinks.
"Denis, your skill behind the bar is second to none mate, the honesty and quality of your work allows you to stand out from the rest".
This place ticked all our boxes and is what holidaying in Kalimaki
is all about, we'll be back soon.

Mermaids - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Gary M  (18 June 2005)

Holiday in Kalamaki this year 15th May to 5th June had a great time stayed at Antonis Apts. Went to Mermaids night before champ league final – Liverpool – I'm not a fan I'm afraid. Anyway Mermaids, my wife and I thought why not we'd eaten there whilst on the island about 4 years prior and our perceptions of the place have not changed.

I had a chicken fillet dish which was all dressed up with frills and plenty veg / salad but the chicken was not great on taste or portion, although with all the other stuff on the plate it looked a hefty portion.  Focus on the chicken would have suited me better.

My wife's pasta dish was served luke warm and was cold within a couple of mins but we did have a

laugh when the waiter – who wished he had not asked if all was ok, suggested he could reheat the pasta.

The red wine we had was local and quite good and the lager I had was cold but hey all eateries in this area serve reasonable wine and cold beer. Price wise it is more expensive but if it had lived up to the blurb on the boards outside that would have been okay.

Would we recommend Mermaids - no. The infamous Mermaids did not live up to its claims for us.

There are many other fine restaurants in Kalamaki.

SUGAR REEF - Try it you will not be disappointed - either for a meal or just for drinks this place is superb. We dined here most nights, a varied menu from local dishes to pasta/pizza and the daily specials board - bascially anything you like and fresh. Angela is a great cook. Denis the owner and his staff are just great and so helpful.  Denis, Angela, Jimmy & Janis we miss you all and you can be sure we'll be back next season .....3 weeks of your fine hospitality was not enough.
