Zakfari Jeep Safari - (Zante Excursions)

Nigel G  (26 August 2003)

We went on the 'soft Northerner' day. Spiros our driver had great difficulty starting the Land Rover every time we made a stop but it all added to the fun of the day (so much for the carb tune up the night before). If you go to Zakynthos this tour is a must. You see parts of the island only possible in the ZAKFARI vehicles plus all those possible in a 56 seater coach. The crew were fantastic, great sense of humour. Spiros our driver was a bit quiet (we were told he was shy) but whilst throwing us around the back of the Land Rover on off road sections he giggled away and shouted 'ZAKFARI'. I really do not know how we can give a greater 'comfort' value.......we were in the back of LR 110's off road after all. Value.....it cost us E200 for the four of us but it was the best E200 we spent. The meal cost us an extra E35 and quite honestly I have had better. Overall a superb day and I would recommend it to anyone but watch out for sun stroke.

Calinica Hotel - (Accommodation in Tsilivi)

Nigel G

We stayed at Callinica 3 for two weeks in August.Bit of a walk up a hill to the base of the stairs then a further trek depending on what floor you are on. They are basic but clean. Maid service every day. We were on the top floor, great views and the opportunity to benifit from any cool breeze that might happen along. The sun rises through the balcony doors which gives you a nice shady area in the afternoon/evening when you have been in the sun all day. Pool is very nice place to cool off although it got a bit cloudy towards the end of the first week (it was soon rectified). The pool area is cleaned twice a day. Although all the other residents were British there was still a tendancy for sunbeds to be 'reserved' by use of a beech towl. This is obviously not the preserve of German visitors only! Staff are very friendly. The appartments laid on entertainment on a couple of nights a week. A live band on Monday nights and Kareoke on Wednesdays. We did not attend any so cannot comment but others had good things to say. Bar food is good value, plenty of restaurants only a few mins walk away in Tsilivi itself. (I recommend 'The Garden' which is the first one on the right hand side as you walk into Tsilivi). It is a family run business, good food at reasonable prices and excellent friendly service. It is frequented by many Greeks so that must be good sign. Callinica (which is how the locals spell it) is in a perfect location, close enough to walk into the main town but far enough away to be quiet. When you arrive a Callinica you will be given the opportunity to hire a fan and a safe deposit box, they cost 10 euros a week each but well worth the expense. We took plug in mosquito repellant for the rooms, if used acording to instructions you can open your doors just before going to bed and leave them open all night. We did not get bitten once and it was very very hot whilst we were there. In all a great holiday. We will be going back next year.
