Adriana Apartments

The first week we had the beach and pool bar practically to ourselves and the second week was only slightly busier - I would recommend this time of year to anyone. We are definitely going back to Vassilikos next year but unfortunately not to the Adriana as Direct Greece haven't got the contract for them.  We will be staying at the Katerina Apartments which look just fine.  The Marina Pool Bar was very friendly and Joanna and Yannis were great - Joanna's moussaka was just out of this world!  Not many restaurants were open when we were there but once the Ionian Beach Restaurant opened, we gave it a try and it was lovely.  We also frequented The Coffee House on the main road - Yanni and his family were very welcoming.  We met some wonderful people whilst we were there, they all know who they are!If anyone out there wants a holiday that's peaceful and quiet away from the stresses of work - this is the place to go to

 

When Direct Greece tickets arrive at your home, the envelope says that soon "you will wake up to the Real Greece" and with the Adriana apartments in Vasilikos they have got it right!

The second floor stuidios have a perfect view of the Greek mainland and the nearby island of Kefalonia.

The apartments are set in a stunning olive grove (with assorted wildlife nearby including turkeys and ducks - the only sounds you'll hear apart from the sea) and are only a stone's throw from the clear blue waters of the ionian sea.

When staying in the Adriana you have the choice of lazing about on one of the wonderful sandy beaches (all within easy walking distance) or having a day at the superb Marina Pool and bar just up the road. John and Joann at the pool bar will make you extremely welcome (serving great food and local wine) and you'll end up leaving as friends - note that John and Joanna are actually Greek!

So, if it is the "Real Greece" that you are after, along with a shortish flight from the U.K. and a very manageable transfer time, try Vasilikos on Zakynthos.

 

I arrived on Easter Sunday (1 May 2005) and upon arrival at my studio apartment (see left) and after opening my window to admire the view of the Ionian and Kefalonia in the distance, I knew I had come to the right place!! 

 

The 2nd floor studio apartment was lovely, spacious and even had a shower tray and curtain in the separate bathroom and the view from my second floor balcony was simply breathtaking as well (see left), I was in heaven!  With the beach just a stone's throw away (literally) and several taverna's within a 2-5 min walk the Adriana Apartments really are in an ideal spot.

 

Being the beginning of the season and Easter weekend, not everything was open and Vasillikos was very quiet - but that was exactly what I had been looking for when I booked this holiday, peace and quiet, relaxation, stunning scenery and hopefully, a little sunshine. As my two weeks wore on more and more was opening up and Vasillikos was beginning to bustle just enough to keep it quaint and traditional, a far cry from Laganas or Argassi......

 

It was hard to tear myself away when it was time for me to go home.
