Levante - (Restaurants in Alykanas)

Chriss & Mal

We ate at the Levante several times during our 3 weeks in Alikanas and can honestly say that the food we had was absolutely lovely.  My hubby and I fell under the spell of Kira's stifado which was the best we've ever tasted (and we have tried quite a few!!)  The kids tried various dishes including the calamari, kokkinisto's and pizzas and enjoyed every mouthful.
The service was terrific and the family and so very friendly and it's always nice to see the elder Mr. Mouzakis - if he hasn't been taken home (which is usually about 11pm - ish) - he always pops across to say hello and as the family know us so well after some 9/10 years we usually get treated to a free carafe of wine which is always very welcome.
Had some lovely conversations with Kira last year about our children (her's and mine) which was really nice as she doesn't speak a lot of English and I speak only pidgen Greek - but we did manage.  Demetri gave me a lovely bouquet of flowers and herbs on our last night and they did last for about 10 days after we got home and smelt lovely.Smile
We can't wait to see the family again and attempt to buy Demetri and Kira a drink (they never accept) and just enjoy sitting in their comfy bar watching the world go by and chat with a delicious Ouzo to drink.
We'll be back again on the 14th July this year so if anyone sees a large lady with curly hair with a gent on a walking stick and would like to say 'hi' please don't be shy!!LaughTongue

La Caretta - (Restaurants in Alykanas)

Chriss & Mal

La Caretta is another of our fav restaurants in Alikanas and we have always been treated with respect and consideration by the staff there.  Infact John (the fair haired greek) is always very attentive and very pleased to see us when we arrive with our tribe and we have promised to go and see him at his home as he told us he would not be at the La Caretta this year as he is taking a break from waitering - he will be very sorely missed!

We always enjoy our meals (though I do agree with the comment someone made about the mixed grill - I had one some 3 years ago and was a bit disappointed so have never had it again) and have never had a problem with the service - nothing to do with the tips we leave - honest!  My first meal of our hols is usually at the La Caretta and I have the Beef Stamnas which is very tasty and the rest of the family have a variety of dishes which I've never heard them complain about.
Just off now to have some of my hubbies home-made Baklava - delicious!!!

Tipsy Toad - (Bars in Alykanas)

Chriss & Mal  (09 March 2006)

Just a note to Terry and Gill to say that we'll be back in July again - minus the eldest lad who wants some independence (again!).  We're introducing yet another of our girl's pals to Alikanas as Lou can't come this year (off to the Philipines to visit family) and no doubt she'll be make to feel very welcome and shall be popping across for the odd film - we're at the Plessas Palace this year, handy ehh!!

Tried to contact you by the e mail address you gave me but the message got returned as 'failed'.

Can't wait to have a Pina Colada and Mal will stick to his usual Bloody Mary (we'll bring the L&P) so get your shaker's in training Terry.

Hope the teeth are okay after all the Rock we got you - will being another lot this time and other bits and pieces.

If the Duke and Duchess from Ashton under Lyne are around when we're on hols - 2 weeks from 14 July - maybe we can be introduced as we only live 4/5 miles away.

See you soon, Love
Chriss, Mal, Kirstie and James Baird (and the new girl - Abi)

Arhondico (Memories) - (Restaurants in Alykanas)

Chriss & Mal

Just been reading the comments on this new restaurant and am a bit confused as to where it is - is it where Costa's was last year or is it next door to the Millennium?

Plessas Palace Hotel - (Accommodation in Alykanas)

Chriss & Mal

We were booked in for 16 nights hols on 14th July and had no problem with the rooms at all - they were cleaned every other day - both towels and bedding changed.  The only problem we had was the lack of storage space for clothing - 1 wardrobe between 6 people is not enough! - and it's not as if there is not the space in the rooms (which are very spacious) but some drawers would be more than welcome!
Hi to Johanna, Sakis and family we had a great holiday and look forward to seeing you again next year - you're always so friendly and helpful.  EmbarrassedEmbarrassed

Levante - (Restaurants in Alykanas)

Chriss & Mal

We've been eating here since they starting serving food and alway enjoy whatever we have to eat - the stifado especially is wonderful (best in the resort).  The family and their staff are always very friendly and the service is great and you usually do get a great discount.
Can I mention that Demitri serves a terrific ouzo and water on the 'bar side' of the taverna but for some reason they don't seem to get much custom on this side of the business - I don't know why as the drink is very competitively priced and decent quality - also it give Demitri and Kia a chance to come across and have a chat as they are usually too busy when it's earlier in the night.
Hi to Kia, Demitri, Roula, Soula and Grandad - hope you all keep well til we see you next year.
It was also nice to see Pat and Mel again this year - take care.

Alkionis - (Restaurants in Alykanas)

Chriss & Mal

Hi - just to let the previous person know that the Alkyonis is directly opposite Busters Bar and that the food is really good - both for value and quality - the free wine is also very welcome.
We've had various dishes here being a party of 6 and none of us have ever had any complaints - the spaghetti carouzo especially is wonderful.
If you do pay a visit say hi to Kevin and Maria from Chriss, Mal and all the kids from Manchester and tell them both to 'slow down' (they tend to run around like scalded cats!!).
Enjoy yourselves.  LaughSmile

Alykes Tourist Train - (Zante Excursions)

Chriss & Mal

Oh dear, what a negative comment!!  Could you not see the possible interest that this excursion has for most people - the one's who like to learn a little of the history of the island and it's people?

We've been on the train a couple of times and have enjoyed the experience - Spiros is so welcoming and happy to see people it makes the day so joyous.

He's worked hard to provide something a little different for the tourists and in the process has created a lot of work for the villagers who all work, in various guises, during his Greek nights which are well worth the money and entertaining - you'd be hard put to get a night out in good old Blighty for 20 euros.  I do apologise for extending the enjoyment we experienced by indulging in a 'sing-song' on the way home but surely a few high spirits are what holidays are all about - aren't they (I'm all respectable at home for the other 50 weeks of the year so surely 2 weeks off for good behaviour is in order)?
