Maria Hotel - (Accommodation in Alykes)

Just returned from 2 weeks at the Maria Apartments and had a wonderful time.

In terms of the rooms, they are quite basic, but have most things you need for a stay, but we ate out every night so didn't really use the cooking stuff. The bathrooms are small but acceptable as they tend to be in most places in Greece. The balcony was large and safe. You only get one toilet roll for the duration of your stay so you will need to buy some from the local shops. You may also be lucky enough to make friends with two very cute and sweet cats who often visited us. Beds were changed once a week, but the rooms get a general go over every few days.

The pool area is always very clean and tidy. Probably the best thing about the aprtments is the guys that run it, absolute legends: Theo (who just happens to be gorgeous!), Alex, Billy and Dennis really make you feel welcome.

About 10-15 minute walk from the beach and town which isn't too bad and you always take a dip in the pool to cool yourself down after the walk.

Yamas (anyone who has had the pleasure of talking with Theo will know what I mean).

Asteria Restaurant - (Restaurants in Alykes)

We stumbled across the Asteria one day whilst walking along the beach. It became our regular when we had days on the beach and we always popped in for lunch and occasionally for dinner. The food was always good and well priced. I think flaming Kleftiko was their special. They did a really nice fresh seabass. The staff always seemed friendly.

The highlight though (as I think most people who visit will agree) is the lovely Vladimir (or Vlad/ Vladdy as we called him). He is the beach guy who does all the sunloungers and looks after the general welfare on the beach, he also heads the front of the restaurant at night. He can never seem to do enough for you and always does it with a big smile. He is highly entertaining and is always happy to stop and talk to you, Definately helped make the holiday for us!

Apollo Restaurant - (Restaurants in Alykes)

Lauren H          9/10

One of our most frequented restaurants in Alykes. Food always hot and tasty (the meatballs are to die for), good service, nice views and reasonably priced, what more could you ask for?

Dennis Diner - (Restaurants in Alykes)

I really don't get what everyone likes so much about this place. The gyros platter we had was raw in the middle and cold, the service was very rude, when we complained that the meat was raw we just got shoulders shrugged at us. The greek food is minimal, we go to greece to eat greek food, but when we tried it here it was awful. Not again.

Olympic Kitchen - (Restaurants in Alykes)

Lauren H  (28 August 2008)        8/10

Don't get me wrong the food was very nice, but the product didn't quite live up to the hype. I ordered rare aged cured aberdeen angus and from such a nice looking place was expecting something spectacular. The steak was very overdone (even though it had a tag in it saying it was rare) and i've certainly had better. However the sorbet between courses was a nice touch and the souffle was to die for. Service was also very good.

Diving Centre (Limni Keriou) - (Diving in Zante)

Lauren H          10/10

Very professionally ran. Wew researched the other dive centres and this was definately the best. We were rewarded with a very nice dive away from the overcrowded spots of the blue caves. Friendly staff who want to offer more than just try-dives for hungover people from laganas.

Alykes Beach - (Beaches in Zante)

Went all over the island and this beach was definately one of the best. The water is exceptionally clear and warm (and thats saying something as i have been to the Maldives). The best spot is in front of the Asteria. Vladimir looks after the beach here and will keep you entertained, he is very funny and polite and a general sweetie, once you've met him its hard to forget him, hes such a character.

The water is very shallow and calm and takes you forever to get out of your depth, great for kids. Can't wait to return.
