Paradise Apts - (Accommodation in Alykes)

Dave W

Any closer to the sea - you'd be in it! Very nice owners. Small bar/eatery opened in 2001.There may be a pool too this year. Located at the northern end of the small string of beach appts an easy 10 min walk to village. Walk north along the almost empty beach for 15/20 mins and you'll arrive at the small taverna at Potomaki - real Shirley Valentine stuff! Walk back along the road, past the well where you can top up with water and where you'll find Johnnie selling wine- don't let the fanta/coke bottles put you off, olive oil and honey very cheap and all deliciously tasty and fragrant. ( I'm starting to salivate at the thought!)Four weeks to go and we'll be back.

Vertzageio Cultural Museum - (Places to Visit in Zante)

Dave W

Really enjoyed the insight into Zakynthian rural history. The museum is packed with artifacts and has rooms set up to show what the interiors of houses looked liked. We took the little train 'Trainaki' from Alykes, which was very reasonably priced and the commentary en-route and on location was very informative & entertaining. The wine included in the price was a welcome bonus.

Blue Dolphin Bar - (Bars in Alykes)

Dave W  (08 June 2002)

Quiet, set at the back of the salt flats up the road past the Apollo Hotel. If you enjoy a quiet drink under the stars away from the sound of traffic, this is it. Never very busy due to its location but you meet the most interesting people here. Eleni, the owner, is the warmest person imaginable. Paul, her son is a brilliant cocktail engineer and shares his mother's warmth. You can also find one of the best value/quality breakfasts in Alykes here. It took us three years to discover the Blue Dolphin, but now we can't stay away. GREEK MAGIC!!!

Beach House - (Accommodation in Alykes)

Dave W

Oh dear! Just back from our second visit, tried to book for 3 weeks in July 2003 and nothing available. Have had to return to Paradise which means an extra 5 metres to sea - better start exercising now! Thanks for the air beds Dot - we passed them on when we left. As for those numpties in Beach House II, appt 13, who caused Spiro such angst, - try Blackpool, Disney World or Costa Del Lager in future - you'll feel really at home !

Anatolikos - (Restaurants in Alykes)

Dave W

Must be the best place to eat (unless you can't recognise QUALITY food. The family work very hard to provide an excellent service in a beautifull setting. Thanks for the help with our lamentable attempts at Greek ' Ena meeso kilo kokino krasi paraklo, ke mira beera' and for the 'boukali kokino krasi', which we will enjoy during the Scottish winter (same as summer, only snow not rain) months. Yia Sas & see you in 2003

Virago Bar - (Bars in Alykes)

Dave W

Hi Spiro & Vicky. Just booked for July 2003 but couldn't get into the Beach House 1, so have had to book into Paradise. Hope you have a really good summer season and a nice winter break. Don't let idiots like that bunch in appt 13 in July, upset you. They are not representative of the majority of guests who are true Grecophiles. Yia sas! & don't run out of Drambuie.

Relax Restaurant - (Restaurants in Alykes)

Brilliant grub and matched with super service. A nice place and watch the world go by too. Try the saganaki prawns - yummm!!
