St Denis Apartments - (Accommodation in Tsilivi)

Philip C

The Apartments are very clean. Be careful when the maids clean the rooms that they lock the doors and windows. We were on the ground floor and after cleaning they left bathroom window open most days to dry the floor. However someone small could get in if they wanted. We got the point across to George that it was more non Greek people that we were worried about possibly getting in, and from then on everything was shut and locked properly. Be careful round the pool as whilst we were there a girl slipped on a set of steps that were not well fastened to the pool, and as a result grazed here chin badly and chipped her teeth. It is well advised to always get out at the graduated steps at the shallow end. It is a shame that the apartments do not have a room set aside for guests to use after they have checked out, as otherwise you have to book elsewhere if you have a night flight. It was okay for us, we met some nice folks who let us refresh ourselves before our evening flight. Don't get me wrong the apartments are excellent over all...just a few problems that could be easily sorted out. Michelle at the pool bar is very nice (and white, doesn't like the sun, so don't ask her why she is so white, it annoys her). If anyone sees a black female cat...she is 1 year old and pregnant. We fed her (room A2)and she has become fairly tame.. If you see her she answers to Paddy...please continue to feed her.

Marios Grill - (Restaurants in Tsilivi)

Philip C

We ate at Marios most evenings. Although the menu is limited, the food was excellent and very cheap. I had never eaten gyros before and thoroughly enjoyed it. Ample portions, a relaxed and very nice meal whether you have fast food (gyros) or a three course meal..Stop by at least once...has to be good as all locals seem to eat there. Dennis who serves there is very funny and very helpful

Gyroland Menu - (Restaurants in Tsilivi)

Philip C

I wouldn't eat here if I were you. It looked nice enough. I had a mixed grill but was unable to find the steak, which I was promised. Most of it was cold. The total price was twice what I would pay at Mario's....The kebab place (part of the restauarant) is probably quite nice. Avoid at all costs.

Popeyes - (Restaurants in Tsilivi)

We only stopped for an afternoon ice cream. Place was clean and well shaded. Staff attentive and courteous. Friends we met at our apartments had breakfast there every morning and praised it alot. Staff are very welcoming to kids.

Day trip to Kefalonia - (Zante Excursions)

Philip C

We went with TEZ tours to Kefalonia. The rep Joanne was fantastic, she was very informative about all the locations we went to. We were fortunate to see the remains of the Saint in the monastery and to watch people file past and kiss the saints feet. The droggarati caves and the melisanni lake were worth the extra money, especially if you get the singing boatman at the lake. You do spend a lot of time in the coach, but this is to be expected. It was a shame that most things were shut in Argostoli. Lunch at Murtos bay was expensive and I am sure that an arrangement was made between TEZ and the restaurant. It is definately well worth the trip, yet it may be better to have a car and stay overnight and return the following evening.

Island Tour by Coach - (Zante Excursions)

Philip C

I have to say I did not enjoy the island tour as much as I thought I would. The first stop was the blue caves, which we were led to believe through the guide was worth seeing. Quite frankly you saw just as much from the ferry crossing to Kefalonia as you do on the boat which goes just into the cave. i.e a cave with water in it. It was described as an intricate set of caves that you could go through. We then set off for Volimes, small village with market. We only had 30 mins here, could have done with an hour. No sooner had you had a snack and drink it was time to get back on the bus. The shops looked good selling lace items etc. Then visited the Shipwreck vantage point, which was a nice photo spot. Where we stopped for lunch was pretty awful and quite expensive and I am sure there was an arrangement between the guide and the restauarnt. The visit to the Madonna Church was very good, and informative. Overall the trip was average. However it was my first coach tour trip, and perhaps I expected too much. The ensuing coach trip to Kefalonia was by far better and our TEZ tour guide Joanne, was fantastic and made up for the not so good island tour.

First Choice - (Tour Operators in Zante)

Philip C  (05 June 2002)

We stayed at the St Dennis Apartments. The Accomodation was very good and well looked after. The flight and transfers were on time (returning to Gatwick we even got extra legroom space seats). The rep Charlie for the St Dennis Apartments, was not as good though. A very pleasant and attentive girl, however has only just begun being a rep and did not really know much about the area. Yet when it came to the tours she knew a lot more, mainly because it was her chance to make some commission. You would think that if the rep is there to help you get value for your money that they would get the best priced tours. NOT SO. We booked Kefalonia day trip and Island tour for 84 Euros (about £55) from a tour operator on the street. If we had booked with the Rep it would have cost 138 Euros (about £90)....thats an extra £35 which I am sure most of which goes to the Rep/Company. Also we hardly saw the rep throughout the holiday, and apparently had missed welcome meetings because she had been drinking the night before...not really the behaviour for a Rep who is there for the customer. We did not have cause to need the rep so this was not a problem. Apart from this the holiday was very enjoyable.
