Kalamaki Beach Hotel - (Accommodation in Kalamaki)

Louise W

We booked to stay here but didn't!!!  Nobody mentions anywhere that this hotel is situated at the end of the runway so aircraft noise is a horrendous problem.  When we arrived, our room was not ready.  Having waited well over an hour, we were repeatedly ignored by reception staff whilst they ushered Greek guests to their rooms (which miraculously were ready!!).  Finally we had enough and moved off the the Crystal Beach where we were made to feel welcome, a room was ready right away and we didn't have to examine the undercarriages of jet aircraft on a regular basis.  The hotel is also a good way from all the best restaurants and the road to and from it is unlit and dangerous at night.  Our advice is to avoid the Kalamaki Beach at all costs!!

Cavo Doro Bar - (Bars in Kalamaki)

Louise W

As always, Alison and Akis were the perfect hosts and proved that the Cavo Doro bar is still the one with the very best atmosphere in Kalamaki!  It's a great place to watch the footie ...... not to mention the cricket ...... !!  Only complaint (??!!) is that Barry finds Alison's gin and tonics a bit too strong - but I have no complaints on that score!!!!  All the very best to you both for the 23rd - hope you have a great day - and hope we will see you again if we get back to Kalamaki next year!

Zepos Taverna - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Louise W

Have eaten several times at Zepos over the four years we have been visiting Kalamaki, and it just seems to get better and better!  The staff are extremely friendly and helpful (and work exceedingly hard!) and the menu choice is great.  We particularly enjoyed the special of a Greek platter - a huge helping but a fantastic way to try out lots of different Greek dishes.  We always spend our last night in Kalamaki at our favourite restaurant - and this year there was no contest - we headed straight for Zepos!

Michaelos - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Louise W

We have been coming to Mikaelos for 5 years and have always enjoyed our visit.  However this year we were bitterly disappointed - service was poor and there was no special on offer.  Some visitors were being feted but we felt that we were causing a nuisance rather than being good customers.  We were sorry to see the drop in service from last year and hope that we just caught them on a bad night.

Zepos Taverna - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Yet again Zepos won the prize for being our favourite restaurant in Kalamaki.  Staff are helpful and friendly and the food is always excellent.  The ambiance is much better than most restaurants too and the setting is delightful.   Hope we will be back to see you all next year!

Panorama - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Louise W  (19 September 2006)

Sorry to say this was probably our most disappointing meal in Kalamaki - very ordinary.  Had to ask the waitress to change the music as we were eating to something which sounded like wailing at a funeral.  Very ordinary.

Kalamaki - (Exchange Rates in Zante)

Louise W

Sofia's Supermarket on the main road gave us the best rate - 1.467 euros to the £ compared to the 1.41 we were getting from the Post Office back home.  Absolutely no hassle doing the exchange - would recommend it!

Crystal Beach Hotel - (Accommodation in Kalamaki)

Louise W

We don't just like the Crystal Beach - we love it!  Just back from our fifth visit and as always we had a fantastic time.  The staff are all very friendly and helpful, the sea view is out of this world and the place is kept spotlessly clean.  Can't wait to go back for our next visit!

Meandros Hotel - (Accommodation in Kalamaki)

Louise W

Still closed when we were in Kalamaki during the first two weeks in September.  Occasionally there were lights on but little sign of activity or life and the pool was still empty!

We found Sophia's Supermarket to have the best exchange rate - we were getting 1.467 euros to the pound rather than 1.41 from the Post Office back home.  Makes a difference over a fortnight!!  You do need to shop around though as some places were offering exchange rates as low as 1.40.  Sophias was great - hassle free!
