Athina Apartments - (Accommodation in Kalamaki)

Helen O

We enjoyed our stay at the Athina Apartments between 20-27th June '05. They are very nice apartments in a good location but the only downside being no air-conditioning available. Fans can be hired for 15Euros a week but don't have much benefit. Noise can be heard from the bars but isn't too intrusive, the apartments around the back are a better option. There is no pool on-site but guests can use the Hotel Venus facilities 5 minutes walk away. Basic apartments but enough really for what you need.

Blue Caves and Shipwreck Cruise - (Zante Excursions)

Helen O

We booked the Island Cruise with Smile Tours, a local company for 20Euros. The Tour Operator costs were very expensive and they advised us not to go with the local companies but there isn't anything to worry about. The boat they use is called the Alexandros which is fantastic to just relax and sunbathe on, there is a restaurant and snack bar on board which isn't particulary expensive. The cruise in itself is fabulous, taking you around the entire coast of the island  and stops three times for swimming stops. The most spectacular being the Shipwreck which is just breathtaking. The boat is too big to take in the Blue Caves properly so only passes by slowly. You may want to go on another trip to see the Caves better. It is the best all-rounder trip though.

June - (Best Time to Visit)

Helen O

We stayed in Kalamaki between 20-27th June 2005 and thoroughly enjoyed. It was very hot and sunny all week averaging 35degrees most days. It isn't the busiest resort but is just nice, ideal for couples and families but does have enough bars and clubs for the more livelier to enjoy. A lot of the bars are very "English" with huge televisions for the sport and english food galore but there are enough quieter bars and restaurants with a more authentic feel if you wish (try Elena's Garden greek restaurant for good food and the Apollon Bar for a quiet drink). The locals speak very good english and are extremely friendly. It's worth a visit to Zykynthos town, its small but there is much more of a feel of the local way of life there (taxi 8Euros). Enjoy!!!
