Akropolis Restaurant - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F

Tried over 20 restautants in Laganas and this was the tops for ambience as it is set in a cool woodland setting which seems a million miles away from the strip although in reality it is a mere 300 metres. Food and service was excellent, as was the price.

Ambelos - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F  (08 June 2003)

This traditional restaurant is a hidden gem in Laganas (best way to find is down the side of Bolero on Kalamaki road, past Yannis (another good eatery) and it is on the left about 300 yards further on). Brilliant garden setting and the service could not be bettered. Good choice of specials - including a mixed Greek plate for around a fiver which was more than I could eat. Tried the calamari another time and it was just as good, as was the free dessert we were given every night. In the top three in Laganas, without doubt.
Friendly staff, great setting, superb food, low prices, cheap but good wine - what more could anyone ask.

Bolero - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F  (08 June 2003)

Probably the best restaurant on the Kalamaki main road. Great for food (especially the mousaka at four quid, and great for people watching. Worth a visit, or two.

Bon Appetit - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F

Tables too crowded, owners too pushy trying to hustle you in, but the food was OK.

Casa Grecque - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F  (08 June 2003)

A class joint on Kalamaki road near its junction with the main Laganas strip. Best of their food is the special meals for two, particularly the Greek dinner for two which saw a huge plate of Greek salad delivered to our table,, followed by moussaka, pastitio, stiffado, village sausages and rice plus a pitcher of wine for under
£14 for the lot. Owner is also the chef and the waitresses are especially bright and friendly, as is the English lady who welcomes you. Top five in Laganas, definitely.

Mr Dallas - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F

Dont let the Yankee name put you off, this is THE place for a traditional Greek meal WITHOUT the obligatory touristy plate smashing and dancing. Sheer quality, the friendliest Greek staff in town, and food to die for. Don't leave this till near the end of your holiday as you will want to return. Just a 100 yards up the ACropolis road from the noisy strip but a real haven, or should it be heaven.
Best dish we had from over 30 meals at 20 different restaurants in Laganas was the Stanmas at this place, a traditional village meat dish. Remember the name, Stanmas, and remember the place, Dallas.

Dolphins Snack Bar - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F  (08 June 2003)

Good location onn the beach with good service but a bit pricey.

Driftwood Beach Bar - (Bars in Laganas)

Ian F

Driftwood make a fresh fruit salad and a banana split which are both out of this world - but check your bill!!!!

Wild Bills - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F  (08 June 2003)

All you can eat for a fiver makes this a very popular place. However, we found many better restaurants which also offered a starter and a mainn course for a fiver - without the self-service buffet.

Georgios - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F  (08 June 2003)

ATe at this place on the Kalamaki road because of the rave reviews and we were disappointed. Food was okay but we never heard or saw a Greek all night as the only staff on view were a couple of English girls. Definitely NOT a 10/10 restaurant and not in the same class as the Patio, Dallas, Ambelos or Akropolis

Giannis - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F

Like most restaurants on the beach at this time of year, Giannis was dead quiet at nights. But it was probably the best beach place we tried at lunchtimes, with even bigger than normal portions. Certainly preferred it to the nearby Greek Islands restaurant.

The Isles Greek Restaurant - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F

Did not live up to the hype but was still okay, although dead quiet at night with only seven or eight people there compared to the thousands on the strip.
Good but not great and we preferred the nearby Giannis

Hellenk Taste - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F  (08 June 2003)

The guy on the door is THE best hustler in Zante. Worth going in just to watch him in action as he never flags as he works 16 hours a day. And it istn even his restaurant.

Gave us a treat when a snotty English couple refused to pay for their meal because they didnt like the look of it. He got his money!

Kostas Taverna - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F  (08 June 2003)

Friendliest front man in town and the food is excellent. Try the lamb kleftiko which they do in foil. MMmmmmmmmm

Bella Napoli - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F  (08 June 2003)

DEspite the rave reviews, the place was virtually empty every night of our two-week holiday so we didnt go in. What has gone wrong?

Panos Grill Menu - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F

Always difficult to get a table and no wonder with the cheapest good food in town.

The Patio - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F  (08 June 2003)

The best view in Zante and the food is very good as well. Just go down the strip to the beach, turn right, and the Patio is at the waters edge about 200 yards along. Brilliant, brilliant views of the loggerhead turtles as well as the sunsets over the mountains.

A must visit for the food and a definite must for the view. Three courses, a litre of wine and a large bottle of water never topped £22 for two!

Casa Grecque - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F  (24 April 2004)

The rating system is out of order,,,take my word for it - Casa Grecque is right up there beside ACropolis, Dallas and Ambelos. Should all be 10 out of 10

Pallas Hotel - (Accommodation in Laganas)

Ian A

The happiest hotel we have stayed in, thanks to the efforts of the extended Xenos family who have the gift of being perfect hosts. We were a bit unusual as nearly everyone else had been at the hotel before which speaks volumes for the place.
Pallas has the same rating as the Ikaros but is in a different class, being kept spotless from top to bottom with the added bonus of being in the olive groves about 250m from the end of the strip.
Breakfast was fruit juice, cereal, coffee/tea and toast but a full English was available for just over two quid. Bar meals were served morning, noon and night and were good quality and excellent value.
Stars of the show, however, are Dimitri and Dimitri who run the bar and have a laugh with everyone. Oxaw!
A great place to stay.
PS Great work with the website, Stuart Neil Davidson.

Akropolis Restaurant - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian A

I felt this year that the Akropolis was not quite so memorable as before.
Still one of the top five in Laganas but try Dallas for even better food and Ambelos for sheer quality. Ambelos - leave strip at Cozy Corner and turn right after 50m at Orange restaurant and Ambelos is on the left about 100m further round the road.

Direct Holidays - (Tour Operators in Zante)

Ian A  (25 May 2004)

Direct gets our vote because they are the only company to go to the fabulous Hotel Pallas.

Top tip for the airport is DONT go through to departure lounge until necesssary, have a seat outside instead for a couple of hours.

Estia - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian A  (25 May 2004)

The only restaurant in Laganas with waiters who couldnt care less, what a lazy bunch. Better to give your Euros to people who are prepared to work hard.

All the courses on the over-priced menu have names linked to juvenile lavatory humour which was pretty pathetic.

Would you like to eat "Napoleon's Dick" for dessert? Nuff said.

Ambelos - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian A  (26 May 2004)

Just back from fortnight in Laganas where we ate in ten different restaurants but Ambelos was again the best.
Leave the strip at Cozy Corner, turn right at Orange (50m) and follow the road for another 150m to Ambelos on the left.
Great grub, classy atmosphere and top value.

Mr Dallas - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian A

Dallas is in the top three with Ambelos and ACropolis... well worth the short walk up from Cozy Corner.
Service faultless and food superb - please try the beef stamnas!
Best value in town.

Ikaros Hotel - (Accommodation in Laganas)

Ian A

Once been, nrver forgotten

Ambelos - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F  (03 June 2005)

Even better than previous years. Make the effort to find it - only 200m from Cozy Corner on the strip go along  past  Orange. Brilliant food.

Bolero - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F  (03 June 2005)

Along with the Casa Greque, the best value in Laganas.

Ambelos and Akropolis are the best but Bolero is not far behind.

Casa Grecque - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F  (03 June 2005)

Covsistently good food at a bargain price - and the friendliest staff in Laganas

Fanari - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F  (03 June 2005)

I will be kind and just say this is not the best food in Laganas

Pallas Hotel - (Accommodation in Laganas)

Ian F

Just spent another wonderful two weeks at  the Pallas. The entire  Xenos family work tirelessly to keep guests happy and it is the friendliest hotel in Zante.

A peaceful locaion a stroll from the strip meant that  most people returned to the Pallas for a nightcap (or three) and I can guarantee no matter when you go you will meet guests who have been there before which speaks volumes for Yannis and Babis and their wives Mimka and  Vivian.

Stars off the show are the barmen, Dimitris and Dimitris, who keep everyone entertained.

Good food and drink are served at the bar  from 10am until midnight or whenever.

Enjoy yourselves.

PS Everything at the hotel is kept spotlessly clean.

Akropolis Restaurant - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F          10/10

One of the first tavernas to be built in Laganas and definitely still the best, thanks to the fantastic hosts Spiros and Angela. Prices are cheaper than the striip restaurants and the food is unbeatable. We ate there three times and my dream Greek meal was garlic calamari then stifado and finally yalatobouriko..A jug of wine for £2 put the bill up to a tenner! Dont miss the Akropolis for good food in a wonderful setting

Pallas Hotel - (Accommodation in Laganas)

Ian F          10/10

Definitely the friendliest hotel on Zante, thanks to the magnificent efforts of the whole Xenos family and their hard-working staff. The whole place is kept spotless and the atmosphere is just great, especially in the new bar where the two Dimitris plus Jim and Marian keep everyone happy. Excellent food is served all day and night. A great hotel and one which has an incredible number of repeat guests. We will be back!

Ikaros Hotel - (Accommodation in Laganas)

Ian F          5/10

Some people may like it but we wont be back.

Ambelos - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F  (29 May 2007)        6/10

Ne owners this year. Food good but overpriced a little.

Blue Sea - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F          10/10

Best place on Zante for watching the sunset. Restaurant now run solely by the friendly ladies but the food and portions are as outstanding as ever. Very hiighly recommended by everyone we spoke to and  no wonder. Owners even gave us a lift back to Hotel Pallas, the best in Laganas.

Bolero - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F  (29 May 2007)        8/10

Best value-for-money restaurant in Laganas and the food is excellent. Two lovely starters, then two excellent Greek main dishes, plus mineral water and a jug  of wine was less than £13. Great value on the Kalamaki road.

Casa Grecque - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F (29 May 2007)

Closed now

Mr Dallas - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F          10/10

Usual high standard but more equalled by Costa's (Mr Dallas) new restaurant 24 Hours at the bottom of the strip.

Olympic Flame - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F          7/10

Good food and friendly service but dearer than most.

Orange - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Ian F  (29 May 2007)        8/10

Enjoyed two meals here. Food excellent but service a bit dodgy. Lovely gift shop opposite  with quality stuff as well as tourist tat.
