Gerakas Beach - (Beaches in Zante)

We were staying in the centre of Laganas but hired a car for the day and came here with two friends. It really is a beautiful beach. The lack of English people made it even better cos you can just relax amongst the Greek holiday makers and enjoy the peace and quiet. There is a shop up on the hill so you can buy cold drinks and food there. We went in July and didn't find a problem with sun loungers - there were quite a few empty ones. Definitely worth going, especially if you are staying in Laganas and need a day away from the noise, alcohol and crowded beach.

Blue Caves and Shipwreck Cruise - (Zante Excursions)

Absolutely stunning. Even though I had seen countless pictures, including my sister's holiday photos, nothing prepared me for how breathtaking the cove is. The cliffs and beach are brilliant white and the sea is bright turquoise. After swimming in Laganes where the sea is extremely warm and unrefreshing, swimming in the ice cold sea here was brilliant. The cove was quite crowded, but I wasn't bothered because it was so beautiful. The boat does stink of piss, and our rep totally ruined the mystique of the shipwreck by telling us the true story of the government's plan for a tourist attraction, but it's well worth going for the sights. We went on the Delfini which we booked on the street of Laganas - only £7 for a 9 hour cruise, saving around £13 on the tour operator's cruise.

Kalamaki Beach - (Beaches in Zante)

We were staying in Laganas but walked down to Kalamaki a few times. On our last visit, we were waist deep in water when a loggerhead turtle swam right next to us, close enough to touch. It stayed near us for ages and was one of the highlights of the holiday. It kept sticking it's head out the water and was absolutely amazing to see close up. Only downside - ugly skinny bloke nude sunbathing nearby.
