Argassi Beach

Beaches in Zante

SMALL BUT THE SEA IS ALRIGHT!

Jeffrey B

Crap beach. Made the best of a days visit by using a pool at an apartment block we were made welcolme at which overlooks the 'beach' such as it isn't.

Barrie R

The beach is clearly not massively wide that much is obvious therefore the people that chose the resort and then moaned about it shouldnt have. We are not beach people really but found it to be ok, but not amazing. The sea has some rocks in it but you can navigate these and go to some fantastically clear parts of water. The fish swim around your feet and it is so shallow for ages. We actually found the narrow beach to be an advantage as it meant you didn't have to walk on hot sand for too long and it meant it was less packed, both in the water and on the beach, no room for low flying beach balls!!!! Overall this beach was not stunning, yet it was not as bad as some people are making out. However if you do have kids that like to make sand-castles etc, another beach may be more suitable.

Argassi "sand strip" ( beach ) is the most dissapointing thing about argassi. There is no beach in the normal sense of the word to speak of although there are numerous sea front bars that have pools and sunbeds for rent for 6 euros a day that are excellent value and give you a sea view feeling with the convinience of a pool. Ther are excellent beaches within a couple of miles of argassi. A free coach picks you up outside the Wreck Bar at 10.30 and takes you to ST. Nickolas beach and as long as you rent their sunbeds they will even take you back!! at 5.00pm. Be warned it is a bit of a free for all getting on to the coach and a " who dares wins" mentality is shown by many barging onto the bus first thing in the morning. The better alternative is to rent bikes/cars to get to the numerous beaches around the island. On the way to the ST Nickolas beach you pass signs for the RELAX BAR. This takes you to the beach just before St Nickolas and it is great. Watersports, jet skis a bar with hammocks to chill out in and a great view of the Greek mainland and Kefalonia. Sunbeds are 6 euros for 2 a day the sea is shallow and the sand is not stoney but vey hot!!

This is not a Beach resort, however there are some very nice areas on the front try Hotel Memossa, the pool and grounds are open to everyone and right upto the beach, with good food and friendly staff, be prepared to pay for sunbed with shade by the pool, inexpensive and worth it, Great ommeletts.

Alana A

There isn't much beach in Argassi unless your hotel has its own, but if like me a beach isn't the be all and end all of a holiday don't worry. Don't be afraid to explore other parts of the island to find better beaches. Kaminia beach is very nice and quite and situated about 3miles right of the resort or Kalimaki a short ride away on bikes.

Hi, I was wondering if there is any where near Alykes/Alykanas where you can hire surfboards?? Or is it not advised to surf on the island?? Cheers Sam

I went there last summer and i just found this site!I went on the bannana boats and they cost £30!!!They lasted about 20 mins and were ok.My mate fell off and fractured her leg and payed £170 in the hospital!

Alison T

Did not partake of the facilities, but met a couple of Italians who did. Antonio and Felics - remember boys you met Ann and Ali on Tuesday 25th September and you told us about the wonderful jet skiing in Argassi. Ann drove your car and you ate all of our Toblerone. Fantastic night was had by all.Ann and Ali are coming back to Laganas next September, so if you are there, let's meet up.

Vicky P

We came back from Argassi on the 6th September and absolutely LOVED it !! Although the beach is not much really, we found a relatively new pool / beach bar called Dimitrios which was absolutely BRILLIANT !! It had a great pool, fantastic music and the people were really lovely. Just go past the Wreck pub for a short while & turn right, it's definitely worth spending time there. Vicky & Adam Procter - Barnsley 16.10.01

Mandy C

The beach really isn't worth the visit, its "full" of seaweed. Its not until you visit the other beaches that you realise how poor the beach at Argassi is. Much better to stay by the pool.

Anna F

I think that the service was really good although the prices seemed a bit to much! If you go you have to try paragliding it is the best! you feel completly safe as the people who were working on the paragliding seemed very experienced and friendly.

Ron G

just got back (31.8.01) the beach at argassi does not exist...so forget it and try nikolas beach free bus from the wreck(pub) on the main argassi road at 1030 am returns at 5.00pm great beach and bar..argassi beach is a joke and not worth the walk down to it.....

Andy E

NOT MUCH OF A BEACH, THIN STRIP OF SAND, THERE ARE BETTER BEACHES ON THE ISLAND JUST GO ON THE FREE BUS.

M S

You must try the Ringos (put a cork up yer bum first!) well worth a go,a bit pricey for 15 mins (if you get that long), cost 5000 drax each. Banana boat 4000 drax. Jet ski too expensive.

Simon R

When my girlfriend and I arrived we hated the beach as it is so narrow and impossible to walk along without getting wet or re-joining the road. But get your shoes off and get in. The water is very shallow and crystal clear. We had fish swimming round our feet. The water is or was warm and great just to sit and relax in.

Andrea R

It was good enough for a holiday!!! We had alot of fun in the water. Very clean and clear. The beaches are very narrow, but OK. Kalimaki has a lovely beach beside the crystal hotel

Barbara P

There isn't much of a beach but there are plenty of bars with sunbeds all along the front of the beach, which is better cos you don't end up with sand in all your crevices for months! The watersports are good and very well run by friendly staff (say hello to Spencer - he's lovely). There are better beaches further along but for sunbathing and watersports, Argassi Beach is all you need :o)

Simon P

Most tourist info will tell you that Argasi beach is over 2km long..what they do not tell you is that it is about 0.5m wide!! It's OK if you have a 22 inch waist and weigh practically nothing, but as I am 14 stone and have a 38 inch waist then there was not enough room for me!

Andrew W

you cant really call it a beach!!

Mick C

everyone talks of the high price, but where is it cheap and cheerful?

Suzanne W

You'll find that most of the beaches are turnings on your left once you've left Argassi. Our advice is to go past most of these and take a turning on your right to Dafni beach. It's about 2kn down a track and if you can get up the steep sandy hills it's worth it. Virtually deserted and the clearest water by far and great for snorkling as rocks to the far right end.

Phillip L

All types of things to do here. Thought it was bit expensive. Very safe and well organised.

Andy F

I am staying in Argassi. Can anyone tell me where to head in order to find the nearest sandy beaches (preferably fairly quiet too!).

Alix B

Although the watersports were expensive, I really enjoyed them! You must give paragliding a try and don't forget to jetski

Matt B

I forgot to Mention, they are really expensive compared to when I went to Mexico. Here in Zante it is 10,000 Drch for just 15 mins. So about 20 pounds which is expensive.

Matt B

It was FANTASTIC. I am a Jet Ski Fan and I went on them 3 times. Because of confidence I like to very fast, spin Wave bounce and have freedom on where I go. Argassi gives you this. 1st Time Jet Skiiers and for Top Safety go to St. Nicholas' Beach

Ron M

JUST GOT BACK WISH I NEVER LEFT! THE BEACH HOW EVER WAS A DISAPPOINTMENT VERY VERY NARROW AND NOT TO CLEAN BUT WE HEAD FOR A BEACH BAR CALLED REMAZZO'S WHICH IS ON THE BEACH BUT HAS ITS OWN POOL AND SUN LOUNGERS FOR 2000 DRAC A DAY ALL SET ON A NICE LAWN

Herbub

To Abbie Hill, Argassi beach is not the best on the island. However, I had a wonderful holiday there a couple of years back. On this holiday we did not leave Argassi apart from going on a couple of excursions. I came back to England remebering many days laying on a lilo in the sea (don't know if I have spelt that word right or not) looking up at the blue sky and thinking how lucky I was. As far as I am aware travelling to other beaches is easy. As far as I can remeber the only problem with Argassi is the size. It MAY be a problem to find space, I'm not sure because we went at the end of September and it was quiet then and there was plenty of space. If you can't find space, take my advice, buy a lilo and sunbathe in the sea and remember how lucky you are! Our holiday to Argassi was wonderful. Hope you have a lovely holiday too!

Barry C

The jet-bikes are the safety form of transport on Zante. If you get the chance go and give them a try

Tania H

i have not been here yet but i am going in June it sounds that the beach here is not that brilliant as i love to sun bathe... are the other beaches easy to access this is my second time abroad and a bit worried about these things?

Jess K

me and the nuns went last week and thought it was very good in every way the senery was good too

Lesley R

bouncy sausage needed

John B

If you have kids and like nice wide expanses of soft golden sand STAY AWAY! Much too narrow lots of shingle.Excellent posing potential only saving grace.

David M

I noticed that the scorecard for Argassi said that "One person hated it". I'm not sure how that is evaluated as I can't see from anyone's comments that they suggested they disliked it.

David M

The first time I saw the Argassi beach it was so narrow that I thought the tide was in! Okay, so I'm not too bright I know. The Argassi beach is not built for sunbathing, the water once you get over the initial few feet of shingle is actually very good. You can walk outwards for a fair distance and surprisingly it gets shallower at one point. The water is usually warm and clear and because it is quite salty it is easy to lie floating on your back looking up at the backdrop of the Skopelos mountain which is thickly forested with trees. If you are an avid beach lover then you can take a taxi down to the Vassilikos area which is very scenic and has lovely beaches. If you are hiring a car and are not of the timid variety then ask someone for directions to Dafni beach. The steep drive down to it is well worth it, as the view unfolds you will see what I mean. It is very quiet and has one maybe two beach bar/tavernas & no watersports. I have finally managed to book flights for two weeks in July and can't wait to return (I'm getting withdrawal symptoms just thinking about it! Zakynthos is a wonderful island with a great climate and wonderful scenery. However, it's greatest asset is the genuine warmth and friendliness of it's people.

Adrian G

They are proberbly worse than you have heard they are very small and not amazingly clean, Luckily there are severel very nice beaches not 2 far away st. nicks and kalamaki for starters

Abbie H
