Lynne H  (17 June 2007)        10/10

Best breakfast in Kalimaki !  Derek and Vernonica best hosts and  also the best sunday roast.  If you get to the stage you,re itchin for homemade food this is the place to go

Brian S  (15 June 2007)        10/10

take no notice of previous reports slagging this restaurant it is brilliant, derek and veronica are really nice people, as are all staff, been to kalamaki five times, just returned used lighthouse every day, if you want good food and plenty of it then this is the place to go.

Robbie G  (07 June 2007)        10/10

Had dinner here quite a few times last year on Hols and will definately do so again this year, food always freshly cooked and well worth the wait makes a nice change from the "samey" Greek menus (with chips and rice) price very reasonable also, would highly recommend.

Rachel S  (06 June 2007)        1/10

must have gone on a bad day flexible menu advertised on the board and friendly staff. we didn't even get a smile when i asked if my son could have his egg scrambled instead of fried after a lot of moaning by the staff they agreed on this occasion but would not do it again as "its too much faffing about"  will never go there again expensive and poor quality compared to a lot of places in Kalamaki as well!

Linda D  (21 April 2007)        10/10

High to everyone at The Lighthouse. We are looking forward to your scrumptious breakfasts...wherever you are staying in kalamaki it is worth the walk, we have not had a bad meal there, and visit every year.

See you all in May & again in September 2007
 Linda and Malcolm

Shaun B  (28 November 2006)

I visited the Lighthouse some years ago.  I worked with Veronica for some years before she and Derek moved to Zante.  If anyone reading this is about to go to Zante would you say hello to her for me.

Many Thanks.  Shaun.

Jeanette H  (16 October 2006)

We visited in August and September and enjoyed two fab meals at The Lighthouse.  Fish, Chips and Mushy peas followed by Treacle pudding and custard was to die for according to my hubby.  In September we both had the homemade steak pie, with roast potatoes and veg and it was fab.  You have to try the chocolate sponge with custard .. hmmmm deeeelicious   Thanks, Derek and Veronica for two lovely meals and we'll see you again next year

Martin B  (10 October 2006)

just got back after a weeks break in zante been to zante a few times and have been told how good the breakfasts are here but have always stayed a distance from the lighthouse.we went here 4 times for our breakfast and on every visit it never disappointed us. the food is freshly cooked and piping hot, unlike a few places i could mention, the service is very friendly and prompt. i can certainly recommend the lighthouse for a visit no matter what distance away the further the better as you need a long walk back to recover from the huge portions that you get. i never ate there in the evening but looked at the menu and the choice is to vast to list and unlike alot of places they cater for children in a big way. veronica & derek have worked very hard to establish themselves and we wish you all the sucsess for the future you certainly deserve it we will be sure to see you both next year.

WE HAVE BEEN TRAVELING TO KALAMAKI FOR 7 YEARS AND IN ALL THIS TIME I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE LIGHTHOUSE. VERONICA AND DEREK MAKE YOU FEEL WELCOME AS DO HER STAFF DURUM AND HIS WIFE. I BECAME ILL DURING ONE OF MY VISITS TO KALAMAKI AND VERONICA LOOKED AFTER ME AND SHE ALWAYS ASKS AS SOON AS SHE SEES ME IF I AM ALRIGHT AND IF THERE IS ANYTHING SHE AND DEREK CAN DO FOR ME,  WHICH SHE DID DURING OUR LAST VISIT IN AUG/SEPT EVEN THOUGH I KNEW SHE WAS UNWELL HERSELF, NOTHING WAS TO MUCH TROUBLE. PEOPLE ALWAYS SAY WHY TRAVEL TO ANOTHER COUNTRY AND NOT TRY THE FOOD, WELL I DID, UNFORTUNATLEY I JUST ENJOY ENGLISH FOOD AND DON,T SEE WHY I SHOULD NOT ENJOY THE BEST WHILE I AM AWAY. AND THE BEST FOOD I FIND IS SERVED IN THE LIGHTHOUSE. LONG MAY YOU REIGN. LOTS OF LOVE TO ALL SEE YOU NEXT YEAR GRAHAM,SANDRA, BAZ, NICOLA, PHIL SAYS ( KEEP THOSE FISH CHIPS AND MUSHY PEAS COMING), KAREN, LEE, COLETTE, AND ALL THE KIDS. AS FOR THE COMMENT BY Alison Braithwaite I THINK SHE MAY HAVE GONE TO THE WRONG PLACE. OR IS IT THAT SO MANY PEOPLE ARE  WRONG AND SHE IS RIGHT  OH WELL EVERYONE TO THERE OWN.

Christine W  (16 August 2006)

This was our 4th consecutive visit to Kalamaki and I have to say that it would'nt be the same without our Lighthouse breakfast.  The food, service and price are fabulous.  One morning we were very early due to a trip out and the Lighthouse wasnt open, so we ate somewhere else - what a mistake.

Fabulous at the Lighthouse, highly advise all a visit for your breakfast to set you up for the day - and it is not at all greasy.

Will continue to eat there on future holidays.

Jean F  (15 August 2006)

one of the best places we have ever been

Jean F (15 August 2006)

will the lighthouse be open till the end of october i would love to go back then

Brian S  (13 August 2006)

BEEN TO KALAMAKI 4 TIMES, EACH YEAR BEEN TO LIGHTHOUSE IT IS GREAT, FRIENDLY STAFF GOOD FOOD AND PLENTY OF IT. DEREK & VERONICA REALLY NICE PEOPLE. TRY THE SUNDAY ROAST . JUST TRY IT FOR YOURSELF YOU WIIL ENJOY.

Nick T  (10 August 2006)

Every meal was spot on and you can't miss the Sunday lunch, just like Mum used to cook.

Steve G  (05 August 2006)

This place is amazing, the food is alway fresh, and most definitely NOT greasy,The service is superb,I have tried most other places within Kalamki for their breakfasts, but this place really is the best.

Alison B  (04 August 2006)

The lighthouse was recommended to us by friends who have been going there for years.  Went for breakfast as were very disappointed.  Horrid tinned mushrooms (not like the frsh ones along the road at Deppy's), greasy bacon, no hash browns - instead we were given bits of fried potato (like having mini roast potatoes on your breakfast).  Sorry to say that we didn't enjoy it and wont be going back - not sure what people on this site are going on about saying it was excellent, frankly it isn't.

Thanks once again Veronica and Derek for fab breakfasts, this picture will be my computer screen saver for the next year lots of love from Emma, Linzi, Claire & Harrison

Leigh A  (19 June 2006)

Never ate here in the evening, but the breakfasts are absolutely top drawer (especially the big breakfast which sets you up for the day).  Many of the cafes in the UK could learn a thing or two from Derek and Veronica.  Don't bother with all the hotels offering a so called full English breakfast, it is worth the extra Euro or so and the walk to the Lightouse - believe me.

Joanne H  (03 June 2006)

In our opinion, this is the best English restaurant in Kalamaki. Great homemade food, great service, great prices. What more could you want?

Jeanette H  (03 November 2005)

click to enlarge We visited this resaurant for the first time in August this year and will definitely be visiting again next August.  We wouldn't normally go to an English restaurant as I like to try as many of the Greek dishes as possible but my husband (Nigel) liked the sound of the Friday night special of Fish and Chips and he even managed a Sticky toffee pudding for afters!!  Even the kids finished off everything on their plates, which is unusual.  The food and the service were excellent.

G H  (03 September 2005)

Went to this place twice, it was really really good.

Dont normally go to british food places, but this night we just fancied something easy eating and it was just over the road from our hotel.  The special was steak pie, which came with the most amazing homemade chips.  I dont really like chips, but these were proper chips!  The pies were lovely, no fat and the gravy lovely as well.  Decided to go back - for the chips!  But the Sunday roast comes with potatoes, but you shouldve seen the plate!  The lovely lady - might be the owner - said we were lucky as only had 2 left - 1 beef and 1 chicken, and yes we were lucky!  The meat was so tender, that lovely gravy again and the mash very creamy!
I would recommend you go here, even if you are not keen on British food when on hols. Even just for the chips!

prices very reasonable as well.

Jacqui B  (24 August 2005)

Best English Breakfast on the island....no doubt about it! - and so cheap too!

We discovered this place on our last morning in Kalamaki last year. This year we made a special journey to Kalamaki from Amoudi (20 mins drive) just to get another breakfast....and we weren't disappointed.

The couple who own the place are lovely people, so friendly.

If you get chance give the Lighthouse a try!

Liz G  (04 July 2005)

WOW! Didn`t really want too much english food on our much enjoyed holiday, but we couldn`t stay away from this place! Breakfast really set us up for the day and it was so cheap for what you got. My hubby has a huge appetite and he couldn`t eat all his big breakfast. And the kids ate everything which is unheard of.The menu is incredibly varied, and everything really tasty, we worked our way through the menu due to feeling still hungry after eating at most other restaurants. I have to recommend highly their sunday roast ( have to book ) and their chips are delicious. Plus excellent greek salad!

They had CLEAN highchairs and spotless toilets ( unheard of in Greece!) and the kitchen is open so you can see your food being freshly cooked. They really cater for children which helps. Its also located away from the horrid over crowded part of Kalamaki(Laganas road)towards the beach,  so by 9pm, you can usually eat with peace and quiet.

Sarah G  (22 June 2005)

Hi to Veronica & Derek got back from Kalamaki on the 19 june 05 had a wonderful time largely due to the wonderful hospitality we recieved at the lighthouse. We ate there quite a few nights and derek was always happy to do my little boy his own oliver special and the way my 20 month old was looked after was great. Alan and charlotte loved their breakfasts and sunday lunch was to die for, hope to see you all again soon and hopefully by then dominic will have learned to talk and not scream.

Thanks for everything
Sarah,Alan,Charlotte,Oliver&Dominic Gaskell

The lighthouse has the best breakfast in Kalamaki by far , the staff are lovely and go out of their way to help you. The food is always of an excellent standard and beats alot of the restaurants in England!!

Tremendous english breakfasts - staff looked overworked and tired!!

Shaun B  (11 October 2004)

I visited the lighthouse when veronica and Derek first opened it, the food is great and so are the staff. I hope they read this I they are very good friends of mine that I have not seen in a long time.

Berni T  (05 October 2004)

Year after year simply the best breakfast in Kalamaki. Nothing is too much trouble. Veronica even cured my husband,s upset tummy with her greek yoghurt remedy! Thanks for the peppermint tea. Have a safe journey home

Kathy B  (30 September 2004)

Tracy B  (24 September 2004)

we were away in august 2004 and loved the lighthouse, once you have found this place you won't bother with the rest. excellent food at half the price of any of the others. daily specials to die for and real home cooked chips, desserts are beautiful although fitting them in after the plentiful dinner was a struggle. thank you again for everything! hope to see you all again soon.

love

Elizabeth N  (16 August 2004)

Derek and Veronica work incredibly hard to produce the most original and tastful menu in zante....unfortunately the recent and usually shortlived english cafes nearby have copied over and over again!!! However, the food at the lighthouse is ALWAYS fantastic, huge portions, freshly cooked, really great value for money.
yeah, sometimes you have to wait as its cooked to order, but who cares if you`re on holiday? whats the hurry? I`ll never understand people rushing around clockwatching in 100 degrees!
We go to kalamaki every year and some restaurants change hands yearly, but not here. says it all really? this place is the nicest.

Susan R  (15 August 2004)

Service with a smile, nothing was to much trouble. Excellent breakfasts and evening meals, can't reccomend this place highly enough. See you next year!

James T  (21 July 2004)

It's ok I suppose, nothing special, staff seemed tired & fed up, food nothing special, best to avoid it unless you have to have english food

Steve G  (07 July 2004)

Great food, great service, and as it says on the menu, you get what you pay for(or words to that effect). The big breakfast is a lifesaver!!.

Andrew H  (25 June 2004)

After a night on the Ouzo, you really do need a "Big breakfast". But the bacon sandwich or the sausage sandwich were greeted with equal enthusiasm by the rest of my family. Every day. Why change?

Veronica and Derek, it was great to see you again and hope you are all well. Sheila and I are already counting the days till we see you again in October to enjoy your company and cuisine.

Paul B  (17 June 2004)

We ate at the lighthouse most days during our spring holiday this year,we loved it.Veronica even bought a cake to celebrate our daughter Hollies birthday. We were made to feel really at home.10/10 thanks Veronica see you in October.

Don W  (28 May 2004)

when you are in kalamaki you should really give this a look,if you want a good english breakfast this is the best, home sick for a sunday lunch " great " but book up derek is brill cook

Jayne S  (19 May 2004)

Veronica and Derek rock!! Just got back on Monday.

They do the best breakfast on the island (proper bacon) and not swimming in grease! Had one evening meal and two Sunday dinners which were just scrummy!! Cannot believe people complain about this place, there's just nothing to complain about, unless they're called Victor or the like!!

Been regular visitors for the last couple of years and intend to go back later in the year, so don't worry Veronica and Derek, We'll remember the gravy browning and pease pudding!!! (not forgetting the melton mowbray pies!!). And thanks ever so much for putting those sarnies up for us for the airport. See you later in the year!!

Jayne & Brian (Newcastle)

Keef & Jan  (15 May 2004)

Went to the lighthouse once and was very disappointed with the service. The food was very poor and the choice very limited. We went there june of last year, going back to Kalamaki in june this year but will give the Lighthouse a miss this year.

Lee W  (21 April 2004)

Our first visit to kalamaki, sept2003, We found the lighthouse. We had many excellent breakfasts and evening meals. The sunday roast is special, but don't plan to do much afterwards, due to large portions. Veronica and Derek and their staff, are very friendly and helpful. Hygiene is off a high standard. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone. A MUST TO VISIT!!!

Sandra M  (14 April 2004)

I know there's been some animosity in the past between the ISIS and the Lighthouse, but have to disagree with some of the derogatory comments made about this place. Their breakfasts are fab along with their evening meals.

Veronica is a lovely woman, really friendly. Just because she hasn't got a permanent grin on her face doesn't mean she's miserable and moody. I mean do you permanently have a smile on your face?? If you answer yes, you better get it extracted by your GP!!!

Bill H  (14 October 2003)

have to agree with the last guy that the woman at the lighthouse is gloomy, but im not sure that the best breakfast was at point break. i would have said without a shadow of a doubt it was at ISIS a few doors up the road. Even though i was full i still went back for lunch, the omelettes are great and on occasions for an evening meal. I dont know if it was the great food that i went back for or if it was for the back chat that i got from kirsty, anyway i deserved everything i got. Thanks guys, i will be seeing you again next may or june

Phil C  (10 October 2003)

Sorry i ment POINT BREAK... Anyway it,s better than the lighthouse

Phil C  (10 October 2003)

good breakfast, poor service, woman serving moody, if you want the best breakfast in Kalamaki go to BREAK POINT

Pamela F  (08 October 2003)

The breakfasts are loveley no slimey eggs ! Sunday Roast is a must it was just like mum makes with real yorkshire puddings every meal was great. But the best thing for me was they catered for my 18 month old little boy i.e clean highchair, plastic cutlery, bib if needed,BABY CHANGE ROOM with nappy sacks and wipes if needed. see you next year bringing my mum & dad.

Peter S  (03 October 2003)

Arrived late and, rather hungry, found the lighthouse and asked if we were too late to have a meal. The woman said no problem so I told her I would be back in 5 minutes as I had to get my girlfriend from the apartment. Came back less than 5 minutes later and the woman told us it was too late, they were closing! What sort of a way to run a business is that? I never returned during my 2 weeks and, from what I heard, I'm glad. The woman is a moody, impolite individual and the service is apparantly extremely slow. One couple I spoke to (they never went back either) said they waited 25 minutes just for the menu! I've had to rate everything poor as there is no "did'nt get served' catagory!

Ben S  (29 September 2003)

The signs outside the Restaurant claimed to offer the "best Breakfast in the whole of Kalamaki" and we weren't let down, the food being of a high standard and plenty of it! However, we arrived and there were already three, maybe four couples sat in the restaurant. We waited well over half an hour for any sign of food after ordering which I suppose is par for the course for the greek way of life, but certainly wouldn't be much fun if it was full to capacity and you were last to sit down. Nevertheless, good grub!

Katie S  (19 September 2003)

We had the breakfast a few times which is great value for money and really tatsty. The evening meals were lovely especially the roast beef one of the best restaurants in kalamaki by far and the service is excellent!

Sue A  (12 September 2003)

Absolutley brilliant, great breakfast & good value for money, Derek & Veronica are very friendly & was more helpful than our air tours rep,I would highly recommended that you give them a visit.

Simone L  (05 September 2003)

The best breakfast in Kalamaki ! Great meals too- and you can buy a glass of house wine instead of a whole bottle- good value too.

Graeme   (13 June 2003)

Absolutley brilliant, great food, good value, and very friendly people, highly recommended

Andrew H  (12 May 2003)

Many thanks to Veronica and Derek for your hospitality last week. The Big Breakfast is something to savour and your Sunday Roast is beautiful. Keep up the good work - best wishes for the season and hope to see you again this year.

Tracy W  (23 September 2002)

Definitely one of the best breakfasts youll ever get, just what you need after the night before!

Craige C  (16 September 2002)

Unfortunately my comments only refer to breakfast as I'm not one to eat an 'English' whilst on holiday. However, if you do like to 'lard' it up for breakfast - this is the place to do it and cure your hangover at the same time (it's also on the way to the beach). Each breakfast is cooked individually to order, which can take some time, but the portions for the price (best by far) are huge and the quality can't be beat anywhere else in town. So get out of bed, get down to the lighthouse, chill whilst you watch the news and build up that appetite before tucking into a mighty large brekkie to set you up for the rest of the day.

Sharon D  (16 August 2002)

THANKS FOR THE WONDERFUL FOOD AND MASSIVE PORTIONS. LIAM LOVED HIS 'DIRTY BOOZE'. YOU MUST TRY THE SAUSAGE EGG AND CHIPS. HAVE RECOMMENDED AND WOULD NOT HESITATE TO RECOMMEND TO ANYONE.

Phil, C  (16 August 2002)

Two English breakfasts and a(huge)sausage butty for about seven quid! The best breakfasts in Kalamaki. Couldn't fault it. Good value, friendly welcome. Shame we didn't find it earlier.

Samantha L (11 July 2002)

does anybody have veronicas email address?

Robsue   (23 June 2002)

2nd June to 16th June 2002 The food at the lighthouse is as always, of a very high standard. Veronica and Derek and their staff, offer a wonderful service and make you feel at home. Many try to copy, but there's no substitute for the real meal. Best breakfasts on the island and try Dereks chips.

Dave G  (12 June 2002)

I ate at the Lighthouse every morning, as I found that it was cheaper to eat there than make something for myself. The egg & bacon butty are the best that I have had, with free range eggs being used on occasion. Both Derek & Veronica made sure that you were wlcomed. Their staff are efficient and curtious and I will certainly return again.

Graham B  (31 May 2002)

the lighthouse is the best restaurant on the isle veronica & derek are the best hosts they make everyone feel welcome it is nice to try local food but if you prefer the best of english you have to go hear but remember book sunday lunch early in the week and don't eat anything beforhand or you won't have any space left ENJOY graham, sandra and janet may 2002

Emma L  (29 May 2002)

By far the best breakfast in Kalamaki (& the only place to get a decent cup of tea!)

Rob & Sue  (24 March 2002)

we have eaten at the lighthouse many times over the past seven years and never had a bad meal. veronica and derek provide a wonderful service, even when the weather is bad. great trousers, great chips shame about your legs veronica, only joking!

Rob & Sue  (19 March 2002)

We have eaten here many times over the past 6 years and enjoyed every meal.Veronica and Derek make you feel at home. The service is 1st class, what more do you want.We now feel part of the lighthouse family.(great chips Derek, shame about the trousers.

Mary Y  (12 October 2001)

Very good English food. The portions are huge - much too much for me. The chips are excellent. The Sunday roast wonderful. This restaurant deserves 10 out of 10
