Great place to eat - terrific service and a fascinating history. Recommended.

Peter &  (09 July 2003)

Hello Jon, Nikki, Nick and Paul. Thank you for your friendship good food and for making everyone who eats at Skippys feel very special. You will see that many customers are regular users. For value for money you can't go wrong. You will be welcomed like an old friend even if it is your first visit. Nothing is too much trouble.
Thoroughly recommended.
Thanks again to Jon and family for a wonderful time.
Our regards to Andrew who now runs the Greek shop.
All the very best Peter and Anne. Look forward to seeing you in the future.

John B  (06 July 2003)

All our best to all at Skippy`s

David   (06 July 2003)

one of the blokes definitely goes to Australia for the other 6 months.

Katie (26 June 2003)

Can somebody tell me if the guy that owns this taverna - John, - is he half australian?

Susan M  (13 June 2003)

This was the worst meal we had on holiday I ordered mussel saganaki which had broken mussel shells in and the peppered steak had no peppers and tasted like horse meat. We were plagued by cats as they were being thrown meat from the customers who obviously must not have liked their meal to throw it to the cats, they wandered in and out of your legs whilst you were eating.

Alison P  (29 May 2003)

We tried Skippy's on the second day of our holiday and that was it we were hooked, Yannis served us with lovely meals and also took time when possible to sit and talk with us as did his father, we like to feel we got to know the family, on one occasion when my husband was feeling ill due to too much sun and a sore throat Yannis fetch him a hot drink made with honey and other ingredients which helped and also insisted on one of the family taking us back to our appartment in the next village. Out of fourteen nights we spent most of them at skippy's and also ate several breakfasts. The Lamb on the spit is fabulous. We would like to thank Yannis and all his family for making us so welcome Alan and Alison

Nadia N  (25 May 2003)

went to alykanas for three weeks went into alykes and went into skippys for a drink had a look at the menu had homemade apple pie and cream it was applepie and cream to die for eveery meal we had at skippys was excellent beer is the cheapest in the resort 1EURO 80 AND A GOOD PINT i would recomend skippys to everyone john and his wife nikki are lovely people

Andy T  (19 May 2003)

no offense but the person who put on the previous comment about the dodgy steak is bulls**tting. i work for the greek govenment checking, observing and generally testing the value of service and quality with in the tourist areas of greece and i was in skippy`s on the 3rd,4th and 5th of may. not once did i hear of any problems in the time i was there. considering skippy`s only opened on the 3rd of may and there wasnt steak on the menu for the first 2 days i find it hard to see how the steak was not cooked properly. i have eaten in skippy`s many times over the last 3 years and there has never been any such complaints about there cooking. the chef is a top class cook who has been trained at the highest quality in greek cuisine. after seeing this complaint all i can say it is utter rubbish and anyone who visits skippy`s will be very pleased with the evening they have and will want to return time after time with no complaints. a bit of advise to people visiting skippy`s and other greek taverna`s. if the food or the service is not at the standard you want then let them know politely and they will respond to your complaint as best they can. as for the person who made the complaint, i think they should grow up and appologise to skippys for being generally out of order.

Kate B  (05 May 2003)

Unfortunately my experience of Skippy's was far from average. The staff got the starters wrong. We ordered 3 steaks..one rare, one medium and one well done, when presented with the steaks they were all dry and resembled cardboard. The waiter had the cheek to look at each steak in turn before we were given them ..sayin..one rare? one well done? etc. As if things couldnt get any worse, the vegetables tasted like they came out of a can, the steak with mushrooms didnt come with mushrooms and even the cats and dogs that loitered outside turned there noses up at the steak.

John B  (09 November 2002)

If you like cats, then this is the place for you. cause its SWARMING with the little bar-stewards. to make matters worse, the couple at the adjoining table kept feeding them with tit-bits. our only regret was not taking Betsy, our beloved cat hating Bulldog to Zante with us. It was a shame really, the food was reasonable & the staff were very friendly but once was enough for us......sorry!!!!!

Brenda H  (21 September 2002)

Can't believe we are talking about the same place. Went to Skippys on the basis of comments on this site and had the worst meal of the whole two weeks. The steaks were tough and not cooked as we'd asked, the pepper steak tough & dry, and the salad indifferent. We do agree the staff are friendly but it in no way made up for the food.

Warren R  (01 September 2002)

This was far and away the best restaurant that we found, whether it be for breakfast, lunch or the main evening meal. The food was superb, the price was excellent, and the staff were very friendly - they do work long hours though - I'm sure the guy who served us breakfast also served us the evening meal!!

Gwen H  (16 July 2002)

the fillet steak has got to be tried to be believed a proper 8oz steak in one piece not slices like elsewhere. cooked just how you like it excellent the house wine is also excellent service and prices second to none we would rate it on a scale of 1-10 twenty pete & gwen july 2002

Denise K  (29 May 2002)

Excellent for breakfast - stocks you up for the day! The family are all brilliant and also a mine of information about the island, customs etc. Nice and quiet, away from the crowds on the crossroads. Traditional food also of a very high standard.

Chris S  (01 April 2002)

we've been the past two years in the first two weeks of the season, last year you just had the baby and your wife was cooking again. John you was also getting into trouble from her indoors about the bill you was running up surfing the net. See you again in about 5 weeks mate

Kathy   (30 September 2001)

Third stay on Island, 2nd in Alykes. One stay was in Porto Romo at the other end of the island but still had to come to eat at Skippys. Family run taverna, with the warmest welcome you could wish for even from the newest eight month old member of the family. If you havent eaten Greek food before now is your chance, if you don't know what you are ordering ask! it will all be explained in the nicest possible way. If you're really lucky you'll visit when the Special of the day( this year thursday) is the Sea Food Platter: Fish to die for !! as for the giant prawns, words fail. If all of this has made you think we are Skippy fans and slightly biased you're right !! but don,t take our word for it GO give it a try and like us you will be well and truly hooked with the service the food and most of all one really nice famiy.

Greg P  (24 September 2001)

Ate there once. Very, very friendly place. Food nothing special. Sat round the back, the old lady kept coming out of her door and sat staring at us ! Well- it's her home i suppose!

Philippa S  (19 September 2001)

Excellent food, friendly service, reasonable prices... what more can I say! Once we found Skippys, we were there every night!

Ian Q  (27 August 2001)

Tried skippys on the recommendations from this page perhaps I was expecting too much, but to be honest We were a little disapointed. Still each to their own, try it and make up your own mind !

Dave   (19 August 2001)

Back again next July for the 6th year and we'll be eating in Skippys regularly. We really enjoyed "Trainaki" the trip and Jon's commentary gave us a new insight into places and life around Alykes. The wine in the taverna was nice, one more glass and I'd have had to take a siesta! Liked your new web page Jon, at http://www.alykes.4dw.com the pics brought back nice memories. Hope you are all fine and Andrew's team clobbers Notts Forest. Cheers and Beers. Dave & Lucy (Perth Scotland)

Jon G  (14 August 2001)

G'day to everyone out there. this here is Jon, the son of the owner of Skippy's I also work on the little train which takes people to Katastari & Pigadakia villages where by people are taken to see the local museum founded by Spiros also the owner of kaki-raki taverna up in Pigadakia.Allow me ta say that the trip up there is very good and it also takes you away from the resort for a couple of hours,(11:30-13:30) GMT Greek Maybe Time. On the way there you are told alot about the Zakynthian way of life, what people do during the winter season, and also some Zakynthian history. Please do go since Spiros is avery good bloke and also those who go may they keep there tickets up until Thursday evening of which the little train takes you up to the taverna (kaki-raki) for a fantastic Greek evening, done by the locals of the village for the locals. Basically you get to see a proper Greek night of which the locals are having a great time among themselves. While your out here please give us a visit at Skippy's also visit our web site www.alykes.4dw.com We will be glad to have you dining with us during your holiday. Thankyou to all the people for the good words you have written about us. "Skippy's stuff"

Skippys   (06 April 2001)

We came to the romantic Greek islands in June '98 and we're looking forward to our next tour in Jun this year. The places we loved most outside Australia,is Alykes in Zakynthos and Sedari Corfu. Two different places, for different types of people When in Alykes we loved it at skippy's the people there give you a really warm welcome. You feel like you don't want to go away.Charly & Mini

Jackie H  (01 April 2001)

Really loved it, good food & atmosphere can't wait to get back

Denise H  (26 March 2001)

Skippys is definitely the best place to eat in Alikes. Jon and Nikki, and the rest of the family, all make you feel incredibly welcome. The food is always good, and you come away thinking you will never eat another mouthful again....but you'll find yourself back there time and time again. Warm and friendly, known Jon and Andrew for around ten years and the rest of the family for the last four since Jon opened Skippys....keep up the good work guys!!!!

Dave   (23 March 2001)

Super warm welcoming atmosphere. Food always good as is John's taste in background music. For the past 4 years Skippys has been the place where we eat most frequently. Try it once and you'll be back for more! ×ñïíéá Ðïëëá

Kelvin T  (16 March 2001)

great food and service

Kathryn P  (18 February 2001)

Family run restaurant/taverna. Busy from morning until late evening. Nico, the owner, very outgoing and friendly and his 3 sons work very hard. Good choice of food on the menu, especially recommended is the lamb on the spit (done twice weekly) and Nico's home made red wine (looks like rose but tastes excellent). Highly recommended (see you again in June Nico!)
