Greedy Greek

Restaurants in Alykanas

Laura M  (25 August 2005)

We enjoyed our food here and it also has a play area for kids.

Karen M  (22 August 2005)

We went here twice, once on a Wednesday which had greek dancing. Great food and service. Would recomend the meatballs, not like the crap you get here! Lovely atmosphere and free horse taxi on way there,

Roy B  (15 July 2005)

Not bad this one, great selection on the menu.

Zante stuffed pork was lovely and stuffed tomato's exceptional.  Swordfish was good but disappointingly served with chips.  Only ate here once as we fell in love with Mantelena and the Paradasaiko Tavern in Alykes but it's well worth a try.

Chloe W  (11 July 2005)

Good service, food ok, but not the best only went there once

Karen K  (04 June 2005)

We went to the Greedy Greek on our last night as it was also their Greek night and it was fantastic. The food was delicious and not anymore expensive than anywhere else we ate. They had 3 dancers to entertain who got all the kids in the restaurant involved with all the dances.

Our only regret with this place is that we didn't visit it earlier in our holiday as we definately would have eaten here regularly

Les K  (30 May 2005)

This is first place we tried a starter, had Garlic Bread with Cheese, really nice.  For main course i had Kleftico Lamb, again no complaints & so for my experience give it 10/10.

Tracy   (26 October 2004)

We went there twice and got free wine both times!!!(probably because it was near the end of the season). The food is excellent and reasonably priced. All of the staff are very friendly and the service is great. They don't let cats in the restaurant either, which is a bonus!

Louisa T  (11 October 2004)

WE FOUND ALL THE RESTAURANTS OFFERED THE SAME FOOD. WE FOUND GREEDY GREEK'S PRICES REASONABLE. THE FOOD WAS VARIED AND GOOD. WE ESPECIALLY LIKED THE GREEDY GREEK GARLIC BREAD. SERVICE VERY FAST AND EFFICIENT, THAT MAY HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE TIME OF YEAR WE WENT. MUCH QUIETER IN OCTOBER. WE WENT 4 TIMES IN THE WEEK AND GOT A FREE BOTTLE OF WINE ON OUR LAST NIGHT. WOOMPA!!

Mike R  (22 September 2004)

A big busy restaurant, & a little more expensive than most of the others. However the food and the service was excellent.

Gary C  (29 August 2004)

The food was good and so was the service. Went her on Olympic opening ceremony night and they had a big screen tv in the middle of the restaurant which didn't do much for the atmosphere.

Rachel M  (25 August 2004)

So good we went there twice!!! Loved the Greek dancers, loved the food, loved the service!!! Well recommended!!!!

Rachel G  (16 August 2004)

great staff great food shame u had 2 wait a while 4 ur food tho

but still if ur lookin 4 sumwere 2 av a nice meal this is da place!!!!!!!!

Kathy H  (15 August 2004)

Avoid at all costs, unless you don't mind waiting 2 hours to get your food, which is nothing to shout about. It's one of those places which you either love or hate - We hated it!

Rach X  (27 July 2004)

the Greedy Greek Rules!
The waiters are so nice...look out for Tomas...the wee lad with the glasses...he rocks! we kept returning just to see him! lol
The guy who sets light to the food in front of ya is class too...bless them all...we shall miss them dearly lol

Go to the greedy greek but dont fall for the horse and carriage lifts there...they suck! hee hee!

Simon W  (13 July 2004)

This place really is the pits - it seems to know nothing about cooking or how to present food. Go to the Mantelana for a good meal!

Mark R  (02 July 2004)

one of the best places to eat and it was good value for what u got watch out for the liquer ice cream

Lyn W  (26 June 2004)

Brilliant food and service. Would definitely recommend

Sarah K  (22 June 2004)

You must go here, the food is great. The manager is a very nice bloke and makes sure everyone is happy- they gave us free drinks too when we came back the next day :) I thought it was very reasonably priced and nice, quiet spacious settings. The whole restaurant seems very clean and nicely decorated would highly recoment the place.

Sonia   (16 June 2004)

I first tried the Greedy Greek in 1994 on my first visit to Alikanas and vowed never to return. However, I was invited to dine with friends this year and this was their choice - and it was good!! Starter was a lovely Greek Salad followed by Chicken with mushrooms, roast pototoes and a really tasty cabbage concoction. The portions were quite large. Would definitely try this restaurant again.

Palmer J  (20 September 2003)

As good as ever , we just keep on going back

Brent P  (20 September 2003)

The Greedy Greek kicks ass.
anyone who didn't like it obviously didn't try the Kleftiko.
the staff were friendly, the female staff were hot,and the price,as aposed to what other people have said below, was surprisingly cheap.
very good.
eat there,if only for the potatoes.

Louise M  (16 August 2003)

Dennis, the owner married us in June '03. It was a Fairy Tale Wedding, he organised everything excellently and we didn't have to lift a finger. The food, atmosphere and overall experience was one in a million. Thank you! We'll be back again soon.

Maureen S  (09 August 2003)

food was brilliant staff very friendly

Beverley G  (07 August 2003)

Just had to write to disagree with some of these comments about the Greedy Greek, we went for a meal there 3 times during our 2 week holiday because the food was excellent and the price was excellent! The food was absolutely delicious here (as with every other restaurant we went to during our holiday) and the price was very reasonable. They don't charge a cover fee (usually 1 euro per person) and we found that 2 3 course meals was around £30 - for people complaining about the price, could you really get 2 top quality 3 course meals for this price in Britain?

Linda G  (01 August 2003)

Ive read all the other comments and disagree. we did wait a while for our meal but like the last person said it was worth the wait. i was with a party of eleven and did not have one complaint between all of us. staff are very friendly, made sure we got a taxi ok as we were going into laganas.

J D  (01 August 2003)

ate here a few times whilst on holiday. food was brilliant. waited a while for food but was worth the wait

Mark H  (23 July 2003)

Greedy Greek is run by Dennis (who's Greek), his wife Helen lives in England so I don't see what the comment about 'you can see its English run' means.

We have been to both the restuarant in Alykanas and Dronfield. the Dronfield one being smaller, is more frindly and the food seemed better but the Alykanas one is on a par with most other restaurants in the area, as someone said, it depends what you order.

Dennis himself, flies home each weekend so I suppose while he's away the standard may drop but I have not noticed it.

Jamie & Manda  (21 July 2003)

well put it this way you can tell its english run. What particularly annoyed us was they gave us 10 euros in small change, so we would think oh well lets leave it. not a chance. they got nothing!

Helen W  (17 July 2003)

Hated to wait ages (I know you do in greece but this was a really long time!) Food below average too commercialised also claustrophobic.

Dave B  (14 July 2003)

Greedy Yes but for money at the customers cost.

Not good and we ended up walking out without eating.

Peter W  (08 July 2003)

not much going for this place except if filled in a night.my wife loved it so what u order will make all the difference

John B  (06 July 2003)

DONT EAT HERE NOT GOOD

Mike & Tracey  (04 July 2003)

Went only the once fairly average I'm afraid.

Pauline C  (01 July 2003)

My husband and I were staying in Alykes and had free transport to the Greedy Greek via horse & cart. On arrival we had a very friendly welcome and found the service and the food excellent. Their menu is very varied and caters for all tastes i.e. greek, english, italian, chinese, indian, vegetarian. We would certainly recommend eating here.

Carolyn G  (23 June 2003)

The Greedy Greek in Alykanas was very good service slow but thats most of Greece. My son who is only 9 ordered a fillet steak (adult portion) which the greek waiters thought was brilliant i dont think they thought he could eat it considering how small he is but when he did they thought he was wonderfull and bought him out an ice cream sparklers and all. Your made to feel very welcome

Bernie M  (16 June 2003)

EXPENSIVE!

Charlene B  (13 June 2003)

we ate at the greedy greek in dronfield (it was one of the best nights of my life) we had my nannas b'day party there bcos she is greek and it was fantastic the food was great the people who worked there were great they had us up dancing and everything. the price , while a little expensive was definitly worth it! i definitly recommend it!

Rachel P (29 May 2003)

I would like to know if there is a Email address for the Greedy Greek in alykanas???

Rachel P  (29 May 2003)

Hello, I stayed in alykanas beach hotel for a week with my family, came bk yesterday. Didnt want to!! Loved it, going bk in summer hopefully! I had my birthday over there too,and it was the best yet!
We went to greedy greek twice and loved our meals both times, the staff were so nice and remembered us! especially mine and my sisters fave waiter! he is a darlin. Does anyone know if they have an Email address there? if so can u please let me know. thanx.

Rachel S  (20 October 2002)

Food was ok, served everything you could ever wish for though I wouldnt go back again. Very expensive.

Claire G  (23 September 2002)

Catering on a large scale - felt like Butlins dining hall.

Rachel B  (20 August 2002)

george is brillant ! gives best services

Rachel B  (20 August 2002)

We Loved the greedy greek, We did note find it expensive at all it was around 27 euros for 4 of us to eat with drinks. It is brillant if you have children as there is a play area they also bring out the childrens meals with your starters. children loves the cheese and tom pizza and the kebab's are a dream!!

Karen F  (10 August 2002)

We went there twice by horse and carriage first time was better than the second. We called it Greasy Greeks. The second meal we had was Mousska,Little shoes, spagetti with meat balls and pizza, apart from the pizza they were all greasy.

Sara J  (08 August 2002)

Greasy Greek is all I can say!

Sue H  (06 August 2002)

FOUND THIS TO BE EXPENSIVE AND IMPERSONAL. FOOD WASENT TOO GOOD EITHER.

Mark H  (17 July 2002)

We ate a couple of times here and found the food, like everywhere else in Alykes/Alykanas to be of a fairly high quality (I did not think it was too expensive). Please note - They are going to open a restaurant in Dronfield, Derbyshire atthe end of the season with all the staff from Zante working in it over the winter to get it off the ground. We will certainly give it a try when it opens.

Neil H  (10 July 2002)

not bad but we found it a little expensive

Alvin B  (05 July 2002)

Food was brill'

Leah E  (27 June 2002)

We found the Greedy Greek really nice!I dont know what these others are on about!!The staff are willing to help out and the food is good!

Fiona S  (18 June 2002)

Tried to visit most of the restaurants in main Alykanas, and have to say that Greedy Greek was not the best. The food wasn't too bad, but it was a bit mass-produced. There's far too much on the menu, ranging from Greek to Chinese and Indian - they should stick to producing fewer dishes a bit better. Not an ideal place for young couples either.

Helen R  (15 June 2002)

In 2 weeks we ate at the Greedy Greek once-and that was once too much.We were lured in by the Kids play area-which is actually kind of tacky-there are 2 cots which look like they belong in some horror film on orphanages! My advice is give it a wide birth-go up the street to Dionisis.

Gary R  (11 June 2002)

Not brilliant by any means. Possibly the largest restuarant in Alykanas although definately not the best quality or the best value for money. With better alternatives nearby I'd give this one a miss.

Michael S  (09 June 2002)

BEEN IN TWICE NOW AND WILL NOT BE GOING BACK. MEALS ARE FAR OVER PRICED FOR THE QUALITY OF FOOD YOU GET. THIS IS THE ONLY RESTAURANT WERE YOU GET NO BREAD FOR THE COVER CHARGE YOU PAY. DENNIS SHOULD GO TO THE DIONYSOS AND FIND OUT HOW TO COOK A PROPER KLEFTICO "GREEDY GREEK" THE PERFECT NAME.

K K  (30 April 2002)

We ate at the Greedy Greek and thought it was great. Dennis is very entertaining, our service was excellent and the food, although not the best we tried on the island, was very good nevertherless.

Pam V  (17 April 2002)

The Greedy Greek is above average. Dennis and all the staff very friendly and the 'Greek Night' is very entertaining. The food is good - been to Zante many times and never miss a visit. Dennis swears he remembers us. (I believe he really does!)

Pam V  (17 April 2002)

We're off to Zante again soon, & I cant wait to visit the Greedy Greek!. Can't believe no one has mentioned Dennis's Greek nights, when the food is excellent, the atmosphere electric, & the dancing wonderful! Those Greek lads can move! The conga line always ends up going outside & stopping the traffic! Remember, if you wait a while for food, this is Greece! Chill out! Its always worth waiting for!

Alan D  (23 October 2001)

Wev'e been to Alykes twice now and both times we have eaten more times in the greedy greek than anywhere else.Dennis is terrific, the service can't be faulted, as with the food.If I had to mention one iffy point[AND IT IS VERY MINOR]and it is the price, they are slightly more expensive than other restaurants. But then one does not mind paying a little extra for excellent quality and service. Not many places can you go where you get a free caraffe of wine, just by presenting a tour brochure.Dennis works very hard to make his customers feel welcome even to the point of welcoming you at the door. So Dennis if you read this when you come to England don't forget where we live.

Galiea D  (08 October 2001)

We went to the Greedy Greek once and we enjoyed it. The food is the same as you would get in any restaurant, the service was prompt and Dennis the owner very polite. We had no problems, but you should be aware that the Greek was is more relaxed than others, so you will probably have to ask for the bill or it won't come! There were a few stray cats who wandered in, but they were no problem and quite cute. Often people will come and leave lighters on your table for you to buy for 1,000 Drachmas. They are deaf, and this is their way of making money. If you don't want them, just ignore them and they'll take them away and not bother you. As far as I can make out they are genuine. Don't forget to pop to the tour operators next door who sometimes have a free carafe of wine offer for the Greedy Greek when you take a leaflet.

Iain G  (07 October 2001)

Just back from two weeks in Zante, ate three times at the Greek, the Beef Keftiko was to die for, and i should know I'm a chef.Dennis was a great host, though his Barrymore accent needs work.

Peter M  (28 September 2001)

As the previous comments indicate service and food can be variable. Dennis seems to be the mainstay of the place and when he is keeping an eye on things the service is not too bad. Some dishes are good. Recommend the dolmades and fried squid.

Steve L  (17 September 2001)

Horrible

Trevor M  (29 August 2001)

Worst service we had in two weeks. We were there nearly an hour before our food arrived, in fact we were just about ready to go when it turned up. We think the greedy greek is the owner who charges extra for the bread that other places give you for free.

Ian Q  (27 August 2001)

Had fairly nice "flaming " special here, food was OK but the restaurant is too large and impersonal for our tastes. Not the worst meal we had though !! The good thing is the free horse and carriage ride to and from Alikes. :-)

T F  (02 August 2001)

This is the last Taverna I would go to in Alykanas. I have been to the resort more than 3 times and I have only ever eaten in the Greedy Greek once!!!! There are so many more Tavernas offering a far better "greek" service and price range.

Steve B  (01 August 2001)

I went here about five years ago, and in six trips since, I have never ventured into it again. Another reviewer liked it, so maybe things have changed. However, I ordered a simple starter (sausage, chips, and taramasalata) and a main meal of chops with vegetables, with a salad as a side dish. I waited fifty minutes and my salad turned up. I waited another twenty and the starter arrived. The sausage was cold, as were the chips, and the taramasalata was missing. The chops arrived well later, were cold, etc; You are getting the picture. My one and only visit to this restaraunt was not good, and I cannot be detrimental enough about the service and the quality of food. The good news from this review is that I didn't have to go back there again, as round the corner from the Greedy Greek are The Poseidon (excellent), Mantalena's (very good) and Caretta Caretta (very good). There is not reason to go to a place you have had a bad experience with twice, as there is so much choice within fifty yards.

Emily L  (24 July 2001)

i have been to Zante so many times and i cant go without going to Greedy greek..good prices good service..good looking waiters!! Helen and dennis run it. Helens English so you always know what your getting and they offer loads of trips! Plus low commision on travellers cheques!
