Mikalis

Restaurants in Tsilivi

Barbra B  (25 September 2003)

MADE MY BIRTHDAY EXTRA SPECIAL THE FOOD AND SERVICE FAB JAN AND MIKE AND GIRLS WERE GREAT LOOK FORWARD TO CING U AGAIN IN THE NEAR FUTURE REGARDS BARBRA BARRY MOE AND KEITH.

Muriel J  (23 September 2003)

We tried a number of restaurants in the resort but kept going back to Mikalis - nearly every morning for breakfast and about half a dozen times for dinner. No complaints whatsoever.

Rachel S  (08 September 2003)

Fantastic. This was the only restuarant that we ate at twice during our 2 week holiday. If you like desert then you must try the Tiramsu!!!

Ian S  (17 August 2003)

After trying other restaurants we went back to this one every time. The service and food were excellent. The staff were really friendly and made us feel at home and special. The food that was delivered was actually what the menu stated. We had a special meal there and the trouble the staff went to to make it special really worked, we were made to feel very special and not just another bum on a seat. We will be going back to Zante and we wont bother wasting time looking for somewhere better to eat because we don't think there is anywhere. The bread was made fresh, the daily specials were excellent value for money and the choice on the main menu was superb. Mike and Jan were welcoming and the two young ladies served us with a smile and chat. See you all soon love Elaine and Ian

Tom & Val  (25 July 2003)

Seven years of eating at Mike & Jan's, still as excellent as ever, one couldn't ask for better mine host's. The food is always fabulous, and nothing is too much trouble for Jan. I guess if you asked for an elephant steak, she would rustle it up from somewhere. Mikes home made bread cakes are delicious, and contributes to one of the best bacon butties ever.
Both Mike & Jan and the two girls Laura & Susie go out of their way to make an evening memorable.
Jan's toilets are absolutely spotless, as is the whole Taverna.
The atmosphere convivial, the service second to none. You receive the same excellent service whether you are having tea and toast or the full works. The choice of food is wide, whether you fancy Greek or English, all cooked to perfection.
We cannot believe the two ladies Sheila Prenderville and Lyn Geary have ever been to the Mikalis, as we would never recognise it from their description.
Carry on the good work Mike, Jan and Girls
See you next year

Nicky F  (30 June 2003)

Mike and Jan made us very welcome, even our eight year old (going on 18) hyper-active daughter who was very much in their faces!!! Thanks for keeping her occupied...
The food, as always, was spot on (with such a wide choice to choose from) - and always served with much banter and it was great to feel as if we belonged.
Best of all was knowing that you weren't being chased and that your table was your for the night if you wanted it - so we didn't have to go far for good food, drinks and company. Many thanks

Brenda R  (23 June 2003)

READ COMMENT SENT ON 21ST JUNE DONT KNOW WERE THEY ATE BUT IT COULD NOT OF BEEN MIKALIS WE HAVE BEEN THERE MANY TIMES TO EAT AND HAVE NEVER HAD ANYTHING BUT A EXCELLANT MEAL AND AS FOR THEM SAYING ABOUT THE ROAST WE HAVE ALWAYS HAD A LARGE HOT LOVELY ROAST BEEF,OVER THE YEARS OF COMING TO TSILIVI THERE ARE VERY FEW PLACES THAT WE GO TO EAT AS WE EXPECT GOOD FOOD, SERVICE AND PRICE WHICH WE ALWAYS GET AT MAKALIS.

Lyn G  (21 June 2003)

we went to this mikalis and was disgusted with the sunday lunch we were served, it was on a very small plate the food was only just warm and there was very little of it.
are dinners were chucked on the table by mike which i found very rude, while we were eating it he and jan were sat behind us and were whispering all the time making us feel very uncomfortable.
he looks after his regulars but doesnt seem very interested in new ones.
i was disgusted with the toilets they were filthy (what a let down)

Tony C  (20 August 2002)

We can only echo the comments by Pam Perceval-Maxwell. We know her comments were accurate beacuse we were sitting next to us and we had a smashing time. Jan and Mike offer a wonderful service backed up by beautiful young ladies. Not only is the food great, they are genuine and generous folk.

Rimmer   (01 June 2002)

Mikalis is almost the last restaurant in Tsilivi as you head south towards Zakynthos Town on the main road through the resort. It is just after KDees bar, and next to the main Tsilivi Travel Office. I would also like to add that the food here is excellent, and definately worth walking to.

David G (31 May 2002)

Can you tell me where this restaurant is? Thanks.

Pam P  (30 May 2002)

Have just returned from two fabulous weeks in Tsilivi. The highlight of the holiday was, yet again, dining at Mikalis. Jan's food is incredible - always freshly cooked from the best ingredients and well presented; Jan & Emma work incredibly hard to ensure the highest standards are met. The service is exceptional - even if (on a busy night) there is a slight delay in the food reaching you, you are kept informed by Mike and his excellent staff, Laura and Susie. Amost impossible to choose a particular meal from so many wonderful choices, but would certainly suggest you try the steak pie, the home-made lasagne, the lamb kleftiko and the roast beef. Breakfasts are very tasty and excepitional value and Jan's bread rolls are to die for! Finally, not only are Jan, Mike and their staff welcoming and friendly but their customers are the friendliest you could hope for. Whether you are looking for a quiet meal 'a deux' or the chance to chat to the people at the next table, you will find just what you are looking for at Mikalis.

Pete H  (29 October 2001)

by far the best place to eat in Tsilivi, Food is excellent especially the sizzlers wow!!, service and staff unreal especially by the girl from Yorkshire!definatly recommend mikalis to have an outstanding delicious meal!

Tony C  (15 October 2001)

We just returned from another two weeks in Tsilivi and enjoyed many a great meal in the wonderful company of Mike, Jan and their staff. We can't believe some of the negative comments we've read on this page. We have spent enough time in this excellent restaurant over the past few years to know that they are really out of order. Sheila Prenderville, what's wrong with you that you need to be so spiteful? Mike's manner of service may not be everyone's cup of tea and the menu may not fulfil everyone's tastes, but you'll not get a bad meal here. Maybe one you don't like, but that's a different matter altogether. So if you want a safe, well cooked & reliable meal in a nice friendly atmosphere, Mikhalis is the place to be. And, what's all the fuss about Greek cuisine anyhow? Disgusting stodge, over-cooked veg and burned meat. Moussaka is just cottage pie without the mash and horrid greasy aubergines instead of veg.

Jane S  (06 October 2001)

GREAT TO SEE MIKE AND JAN STILL SMILING. JOHN IS STILL FULL FROM HIS BEEF SIZZLER - AN ABSOLUTE MUST FOR NEXT YEAR'S MENU. HOPEFULLY SEE YOU NEXT SEPTEMBER JOHN & JANE, HARROGATE

Sheila P  (04 October 2001)

Wozzup???? Only 4 customers between 28.07 and 03.10?????

Cheryl K  (03 October 2001)

This is by far the best place to eat in Tsilivi! The food is cooked properly and you are served exactly what you order (unlike some restaurants in Tsilivi)!! The waitresses here are friendly and couldn't be more helpful - especially the girl from Sheffield - she was fantastic!! Mike and Jan are the most hospitable people that I have met on the island and will go out of there way to make sure that you enjoy your stay. Im sorry to see that there are a couple of negative comments on here but Im sure that anyone with any sense will be able to figure out the genuine comments from those made by sad people who haven't anything better to do with their time! Anyway, don't just take my word for it, go and see for yourself!! There are many restaurants in Tsilivi but this definately has to be the best! Thanks for an unforgettable summer!!!

Simon W  (01 October 2001)

Was the first place the four of us visited. Staff extremely friendly which gave our holiday a great start except for our Rep but that different story. Cabaret night on Tuesday was great laugh. Food excellent. If u want great food in with a good atmosphere here is the place to eat. From Stacey sue & lads.

Paul S  (17 August 2001)

I have been going to tsilivi now for seven years and I must say that mike and jan have always greated us and treated us well. Keep on serving up the good food mike (timmy mallet) Paul and Sue Bolton

Sheila P  (28 July 2001)

Well - I'll go to t'foot of our stairs - the comments on this site never cease to amaze me! Bring back Quackers (I think that's what it used to be called, I say.

Hedley P  (27 July 2001)

I had read the comments on this site before going and was pleased to find it close to our hotel.I suppose being on the outskirts of town meant that it was not as busy and the staff had more time to look after you but it was more than that as they went out of their way to help. The food was great and on the childrens request we returned 5 times .One occasion was my sons birthday when he was serenaded by the staff.I was so impressed that on our last night I organised a party of 25 from the hotel to attend. As it was caberet night they were already busy but we all squeezed in.The night was wonderful and we all remarked that it was one of those unforgetable holiday moments. Thanks once again to Mike and Jan and the rest of the staff for their hospitality. For anyone visiting in the future it is well worth the short walk away from the town centre to find this little gem.

Lynn M  (23 July 2001)

Just returned to Oz after holidaying in Zakinthos. Away from home and just started to miss the kids Visited Tsilivi - stayed for a week, found a fantastic restaurant MIKALIS - great food, great staff, great time. Funny, friendly or just there when you need them. More than a service, Mike and Jan became friends to all who visied, good cuisine at good prices, we just had to go back for more. Definately recommend this place to all who visit, unlike the nearby bar who charged us 4,800 dr. for a beer and a spirit. Well done Mike and Jan!

Louisa P  (16 July 2001)

The restaurant in general is nice, would be quiet because of area set in,if it wasn't for one of the hosts.Although he does suspect when you're not after a loud "HOW YA DOIN' MATE?!" kind of holiday and when you want to be left alone to eat, although don't expect it to be in peace!he's very loud and this place is VERY!English despite looking Greek from the outside. We ate here twice to see if it improved,hence-the second time was the last. The Greek salad etc is available, but not set in the right context here.(Something nice about it we noticed, was they displayed 'please feel free to view our menu, it isn't our policy to 'DRAG' you in' which made a nice change. Not all restaurants are like that in Tsilivi, but some!definately are.

Donna H  (16 July 2001)

Hi ya mik, Thanks for the best grub in tsilivi. we had to walk miles it was well worth it. I would say by far that this was the best restaurant in town. Hope tony and sarah enjoyed there english roast!!!

Cath/bernie E  (15 July 2001)

great place to eat, warm friendly service, full and varied menu, excellent hosts, very clean dining area and kitchen, well worth a visit. See you september. Cath/Bernie

Tony M  (13 July 2001)

I have just come back tonight from yet another lovely dinner and friendly service. We are in our tenth day of our holiday and have visited mikalis restaurant at least five times. the food is cooked wonderful and the staff are very nice and the price is as fair as it can be!!this restaurant is highly recommended from the locals aswell as the net so get down there! the walk from where we are staying(Tsivili beach hotel) is around 15 mins but well worth the journey. you will find that when you walk in the restaurant that you are greeted with a smile from our mate mike and his lovely wife and staff. this restaurant is my favourite by far and if you like a proper English cook like i do then your laughing. Sarah,Tony,Donna, and Glen from Dulwich in London!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dave G  (10 July 2001)

If you want to feel as though you've never left the UK this is the place for you. It lacked atmosphere, served bland food and was full of Brits. Definitely not the place for authentic Greek cuisine and ambience but fortunately there were lots of other restaurants from which to choose.

Jon B  (10 July 2001)

Great People, Freindly and Polite. Food was great and will return in September. Jon Bartlett Romford, Essex. England

Taffy S  (03 July 2001)

Need we say more

Dave   (02 July 2001)

Can't see what all the hype is about. Food not great, service lax and some way out of the main resort. Don't bother.

Lynda F  (29 June 2001)

Try the beef sizzler, absolutely lovely.

Sheila P  (25 June 2001)

Mikalis? Mick would be more like it. I can't believe this has more positive comments on this site than any other eating place - it is a good way out of the centre of Tsilivi and we tried it because we were staying fairly close and knew it from a previous vist (1991) when it had a different name.

Clive P  (25 June 2001)

This restaurant is situated about 50 yards down the road from the Mandarin chinese restaurant on the outskirts of the village in a main road position and is well worth a visit. The food here was by far the best we had and I would strongly recommend it.The service was excellent also and we were never rushed, for a totally relaxed meal with real quality food give it a try.

Dave S  (22 June 2001)

Excellent meal - nice place and hosts - definitely worth a visit

The M  (16 June 2001)

Having been to tsilivi 6 times we know all the eating places and without a doubt Mikalis is one of the best, on my last visit i mentioned that i had not seen stuffed tomatoes and peppers on any of the menus, Jan offered to cook them the next night and they were beautiful. nothing is to much trouble for jan & mike

Tony C  (16 June 2001)

We have just returned from Tsilivi. Yet again we had many special evenings and wonderful meals in the fine company of Jan, Mike and their excellent staff. Nowhere compares for quality of meals and great service.

Keith H  (14 June 2001)

Mike and his team of expats run a fine english business in the heart of greece. No Smoking in the kitchen, no paper down the bog :)

Keith H  (14 June 2001)

We were there @ the start of the season,, unlike other places everything was on the menu and the bar was always open. A good mix of english, Greek @ european food was always available.

Tony M  (13 June 2001)

Excellent selection of food - something for everyone. Quieter location, friendly people.

Jane   (10 June 2001)

Food was good in a relaxed atmosphere, with friendly staff.

Andy/tracy G  (31 May 2001)

our first time on zante and we ate at mikalis six nights out of seven and when we go again we will make it seven nights out of seven. mick/jan can you send us a beef sizzler and a spaghetti mikalis with a carafe of red wine plus an amstel all the best andy and tracy who was holidaying there from 3/05 to 10/05

Bob P  (30 May 2001)

We have been holidaying in Tsilivi for five years and have just returned from the first of our two trips this year. We have always been to Mikalis at least once or twice each time and have never been disappointed with the service, price or quality of the food, along with the friendly and convivial atmosphere that is part of Mikalis. Thanks to Mike and Jan for the giggles and look forwarde to seeing you again in September!

Pam P  (25 May 2001)

I'm sorry one person didn't like Mikalis. We haven't been bribed but we know after visiting Tsilivi for 9 years and eating at many of the restaurants in the village that Mikalis is simply the best. You'll get a warm welcome and good food at an excellent price. You can stay just long enough to eat your meal or relax over a glass of wine and spend the evening there. All tastes are catered for on the menu and you can stick to good english dishes or be adventurous and try Jan's excellent greek cuisine. Children are particularly welcomed. If, for any reason, you want to eat at your apartment, Jan & Mike are happy to provide a carry-out service. We would recommend that you go at least once, you'll never be a stranger after that first visit.

Tracey A  (24 May 2001)

We ate here twice as a family and found the food and service excellent. We particularly liked the fact that it was away from the main centre and was extremely child friendly. Slightly more expensive than some other restaurants but the quality of food and service made it well worth while. I would certainly recommend this restaurant.

Victoria D  (21 May 2001)

We had a good meal here and a great night, hosts were fantastic and it was well cheap not to mention a right laugh.
